Root without computer? - OnePlus 3T Guides, News, & Discussion

Is there a way to root without a computer? I already checked Oem unlocking in delevoper mode.

No. Because you need to unlock the bootloader and the device must be in bootloader mode. If you dont got a computer, just ask a friend.

Dang...I don't know anyone without a computer. I guess I'm going stock.

So uhh... how do you encrypt this phone?

I tried going through all the settings and couldn't find anything about encrypting the phone. Does it do this automatically or something?
Yes, the Axon 7 is automaticly encrypted from what i could gather on the forum.

Yup, is Automatically encrypted....
That's one of the reasons why a lot of users having issues when they want to go back to UN-ROOT state.
Ok thanks for clarifying guys.
For some reason I thought that encrypting your phone locked it out of TWRP (unless you had a code). It doesn't seem to do this so I guess encrypting is kinda useless as long as I have a custom recovery on my device?

Cricket Idol 4 (6055U) bootloader-- easy unlocking?

I just bought this phone from Cricket, and the first thing I do is unlock the dev menu and look at dev options. Imagine my surprise when I see an option to unlock the bootloader! YMMV: select on, enter your pattern/password (if needed), then accept the terms. When I get back to my computer I'll see what kind of trouble I can cause...

Do you think if I side loaded the TWRP I would be okay? I'm not sure how I would reverse it if it didnt work.

We would have to figure out how to back up the original recovery. You could also try the fastboot boot command. That's pretty much a sure way to boot a recovery without messing things up but it has to be in .IMG format to try it.
By any chance has anyone tried the root permission setting found in engineering mode under settings? Dial *#*#2637643#*#* in your dialer to access it

I will if you link me to it and it's free.
On a side note for any potential developers there are several open source projects to read write to the Qualcomm devices on github I'll link em after work. And I have the Qualcomm signing keys they use if that'll help

https://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-4s/how-to/6055u-root-method-t3598947
Heres a link to the thread that goes over rooting the 60555u. Its kind of simple if you have some patience, and on page 5 i made a short guide on what i did to get it working. Check it out and get your phone rooted.
Do you think there might be a root for Alcatel idol 5 cricket?
Is the cricket idol 5 in sugar? If so, the same could pry be done that was done to the idol 4

yup. I confirmed it. My best guess is that if you are in a custom stock rom, just like with the android pay, it will not work since you are rooted. have you tried with a deodexed stock rom without mods? if it doesnt work, you will have to use lgup and flash the kdz for h918. Then unlock it, and then redo the root once again.

I dont know if traditional method work with this one. First call or send a message to tmobile. Tell them your phone needs a code for unlock and that the app doesnt work, if they can provide you with one. When you have everything needed, turn off the phone, remove the battery and the sim card, insert a simcard from another company and turn on the phone again. (in fact, It is recommended to insert the new simcard before even considering on calling tmobile since otherwise, it would be a waste of time if the box prompting for the code doesnt even appear when you turn on the phone)
I had to call them to unlock and that in itself was more painful than to backup device, downgrade to no root, unlock, root, restore... problem with calling was that they kept troubleshooting the unlock app and why it wouldn't work (just keeps checking and then fails). not sure if an older version of the app would work, but I know on my LGV10 it unlocked while rooted. on the LGV20 it won't work until you unroot.

FRP

I bought a Nexus 6P and after I factory reseted it requests for account. I don't have any more contact with the man who sold me because he has no smartphone for now.
It has the January security patch.
Is there any somehow I can bypass FRP in January Patch?
I saw at YouTube that is able to bypass it with October patch, but couldn't find anything for January.
Thanks.

Hello,
The exploit has been patched. No new FRP bypass available.
Question... The guy sold you his N6P with his account on the phone that you have FRP after factory reset? Cool story...
I wonder who sell a phone with his account left on the phone..?
Good luck...

He sold me and we did a factory reset. The battery was low so I arrived home to boot up and configure the device while charging, but got stuck in this.
Also, I found a way to bypass it and use the device without Google Account. If I unlock bootloader, complete wipe and install a custom ROM, would the account still be required?

Hey,
Normally, if you enable OEM unlock, unlock bootloader, you may be able to skip setup and add your account.
I usually wipe my phone with OEM unlock enabled and no SETUP/account required. With OEM unlock disabled, setup/account required, even with the bootloader unlocked...
Hmm, so you were able to enable OEM unlock? How did you do, since you can't skip setup, or? And if you skipped setup, you should be able to delete the previous account from settings without issue. I'm confused...
Cheers...

My friend found a way to skip all the initial configuration.
I can go in any setup, install apps via aptoide, etc.
If I enable OEM Unlock and install a Custom ROM will I be able to fully use my new device?

Hey,
Did it involve the use of ADB by the way?
Also, if you got in settings, you can go in account and add yours, no?
Anyway... To my knowledge, when I let OEM unlock disabled and wipe, reflash, I have to add my account after the install. If OEM unlock is left enabled, I can skip setup.
Only way to figure it out is trying by yourself... :good:
Hopefully it will work.
Cheers...

Hmm it will be hard now. It's 2am here in France and I'm going to bed...
This is how it works anyway. If you enable OEM unlock, the phone ask if you're really sure you want to enable it, and it will disable security feature = FRP...
Good luck...

No. It has to be flashed either by Odin or Heimdall. There is an app in PlayStore but it is no longer supported and doesn't work on newer devices or current Android versions.
