[HELP] How to root my Samsung S7 Edge Marshmallow? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Model number is SM-G935FD and it is on Marshmallow 6.0.1
Can someone direct me on how I can root my phone? .. I just want to root it and still use the stock rom. Any help would be appreciated.. ><

I suggest you don't try this, since you're a new user and you're having a hard time even finding the appropriate thread. You can actually ruin your phone beyond repair by misunderstanding one thing, pressing one wrong button or forgetting one small thing. Nevertheless, the thread is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7...overy-official-twrp-hero2lte-3-0-0-0-t3334084
I think the instructions in this thread aren't quite up to date (format data). I rewrote the instructions to be more clear. I did follow all these yesterday (running NOUGAT) and it worked for me. But I'm no dev. Don't ask me for help if you get any problems, small or disastrous.
FULL STEPS FOR OBTAINING Root ON THE EXYNOS VERSION OF THE GALAXY S7 EDGE (SM-G935F/FD/X, SM-G935K/L/S, SM-G935W8)
A. There has to be an external SD card in your phone.
B. You have to be on an Axxx firmware.
C. Backup everything. You will lose all your data, apps, pictures, settings. Everything except the content of the external SD.
D. If you lack either A, or B, or C, or if you do anything any different than described here, you risk ruining your phone. I can't help you if you do anything wrong.
E. If you do everything right but you have a bad download, you accidentally remove the USB cable in the wrong moment or your pc loses power, you might end up with a ruined phone. This is never risk free.
F. You will lose your warranty.
1.In your ROM, go to Settings -> About device. Tap 7 times on Build number to enable Developer options.
2. Go to Settings -> Developer options. Enable OEM unlock.
3. Download Odin_3.12.3.zip and extract it to your computer. https://build.nethunter.com/samsung-tools/Odin_3.12.3.zip
4. Download and install Samsung Mobile Phone Drivers. http://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows
5. Download twrp-3.0.1-1-hero2lte.img.tar https://eu.dl.twrp.me/hero2lte/
6. Turn off your device.
7. Connect it to your pc through USB and don't disconnect before you're done with step 24.
8. Hold [Power] + [Volume Down] + [Home] buttons until you reach the Download mode warning screen.
9. Press [Volume Up] to continue.
10. Open Odin, press [AP] and navigate to the TWRP tar file from step 5.
11. Select [Options] and disable Auto-Reboot.
12 Press [Start].
13. Wait for Odin to say [PASS]
14. Hold [Volume Down] + [Home] + [Power]. When the screen gets black, immediately move the [Volume down] finger to [Volume up]. Don't let go the other two buttons.
15. If you don't see the TWRP boot splash try again from step 6.
16. In twrp, swipe right to allow system modifications, then go to [Wipe]
17. Don't go to [advanced], dont check any boxes, but chose [format data]. Write [yes] when instructed.
18. Download the latest SuperSU by Chainfire
https://download.chainfire.eu/1021/SuperSU/SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742.zip
19. Without exiting TWRP, transfer the SuperSU zip to the external SD card in your device through “my computer”in Windows.
20. Flash superSU using [Install] in TWRP.
21. Download no-verity-opt-encript-5.1.zip and
without exiting TWRP, transfer the no-verity-opt-encrypt zip to the external SD card through Windows. https://build.nethunter.com/android-tools/no-verity-opt-encrypt/
22. Flash the zip using [Install] in TWRP.
23. Go to [Reboot] -> [System].
24. Wait 2-5 minutes for your device to finish setting itself up.

Don't do it. I don't guarantee a single thing.

Make three backups in twrp before you flash supersu. One for boot, one for efs and one for everything.

I need help guys because i lost my twrp recovery while flashing the xenon rom. The problem is now my phone is also not detected in adb devices in my laptop. I am running windows 10 i had installed twrp from this laptop. When ever i connect and give command ADB DEVICES the it doesn't show any devices found. I had installed all the drivers. My phone is running in the xenonhd rom. Pls help me how i can install twrp and how to correct adb.
Sent from my Lenovo A6000 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Lenevo A6000 Unbrick/Fix For Any Problem
It's common since, when modified, the A6000 doesn't have a way to directly boot into recovery without a System or ADB command (Power Hold > Reboot > Recovery and "adb reboot recovery" respectively). However you can always boot into Download mode which acts as an emergency subsystem at any time. Have a quick guide on how to do that and you'll be flashing away custom ROMs again in no time.
(Optional but recommended steps will be market with an asterisk (*))
Disclaimer: You are doing everything out of your own free will and volition. I am in no way responsible to any potential damage you might cause to your device. This can occur in cases of not following the guide properly.
Below is the fix for problems when the phone has no OS to reboot from. In case of Xenon which is rooted, follow this:
Easy Guide
(This is for when a phone already has an OS to boot from)
1. Open Terminal Emulator
2. Write
Code:
su
reboot recovery
(On any Superuser permissions pop-ups press Grant.)
3. Follow Steps 4 and 5 from the guide bellow.
Downloads
If you are on Kitkat (4.4.X), Download This (Mirror)
If you are on Lolipop (5.X.X), Download This (Mirror)
If you are not sure, download both and try both, no damage should be done.
[Source]
Instructions
1. Download all the prerequisite files.
2. Power Off Your Phone by removing the battery.* (See Note 1)
3. Hold the Volume Down and Power keys until the phone vibrates once and the Lenovo screen appears. At the bottom it should say "Powered by Android" and under it some small Chinese letters and "Power key long press can reboot phone". (See Note 2)
4. Extract the downloaded ZIP files anywhere you want. You should end up with a "TWRP" folder.
5. Open that TWRP folder and run "Boot-TWRP_A6000.bat"
6. If everything went well, you should be in TWRP recovery. Flash your desired ROM following the instructions from their thread, and everything should now be fine. (See Note 3)
Notes
1. I have noticed that sometimes my phone will not recognize that it's in Bootloader mode and will try to boot normally after a few seconds along with the fastboot not recognizing it. Theory: it doesn't shut down completely when rebooted via Holding the Power button, and tries to boot like nothing is wrong. I don't have a concrete fix, the best i can offer is to try different button combinations. (Vol. Down+Power / Vol. Up+Power / Vol. Up+Vol. Down+Power)
2. If you get the problem described in Note 1 do steps 4 and 5 before step 3. The .bat script will wait for the phone, as soon as it detects the Bootloader it will do it's job.
3. If something went wrong, leave a reply, I'll see if i can guide you through it. Remember to follow instructions carefully!
i had a simple sol....

TWRP does not ask for pin

TWRP does not ask for pin, and therefore does not decrypt my storage.
How can I fix this?
Twrp has no security, it can't read anything encrypted, if you just installed it you have to wipe storage and start fresh, its in the twrp thread.
Looks like the Galaxy S8 TWRP is not fully functional yet. It asked me too for a PIN on my previous phone (Xiaomi MI5) and I could work with my encrypted /data partition in TWRP.
twrp is fully functioning you need to flash the dm-verity and force encryption disabler zip after instaling twrp and wiping data . follow the instructions found in the twrp thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...pment/recovery-twrp-galaxy-s8-exynos-t3595102

7. Go to "Install" menu of TWRP and flash the zip.
TWRP is initialized and fully functional at this stage. Now you can either reboot into system or root, flash custom ROMs, Kernels via TWRP
Just rooted my Note 8 and Twrp says my Storage is 0MB
Unable to flash anything using TWRP and Magisk root is unstable too, did you manage to fix this, mine is 0MB with a swipe lockscreen and a pin too.

J500f is here https://twrp.me/samsung
5. Download USB drivers for your model(your PC should automatically do it when you connect your device)
6. Connect youe device to PC and turn your device off
Next you want to put it into download mode. To do this gold the power button, vol down button and home button simultaneously
7. Disable auto reboot in Odin on PC. Then click the AP tab and locate the twrp file.
Flash the file onto your phone and disconnect from the PC once finished.
Next part is really important.
8. DO NOT REBOOT YOUR DEVICE YET. if you reboot you will lose your custom recovery.
While the phone is still in download mode after you disconnect from PC just remove the battery do not turn it off or reboot it.
9. Put the battery back in and then hold power button, home button and vol up button (same as putting into download only volume up instead of volume down)
10. This should reboot you into your brand new twrp recovery.
11. Just reboot device from twrp settings for now.
12. Download magisk zip to your device. You will find latest stable on first post here https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
13. Turn your device off again. Reboot to recovery same as before (home button, power button and volume up button)
14. Click on install in twrp and locate the magisk.zip file and click on it and flash the file.
15. Reboot once done and go to magisk manager in your app drawer which the magisk.zip will install and thats it

How to install a rom
You must have custom recovery installed see the above comment to install.
1. Download the rom you wish to install and put it on your external SD card
2. Reboot your device to recovery.
3. Go to wipe >> advanced wipe and wipe system, data, internal, dalvik and cache.
4. Go to install and search for your rom.zip on external SD card.
5. Flash it and thats it.
6. If you want Google apps (gapps) you will have to download a suitable gapps package for your device and new rom. If your new rom is android 9 pie then download arm gapps, android version 9 and I would recommend the lighter gapps package like nano or pico.
7. Flash gapps right after flashing your rom.
8. Optional wipe dalvik and cache just in case and thats it

At my wits end

So I'm trying to get Magisk installed on my bootloader/OEM Unlocked S10+ (SM-G975F beyond2lte) device.
I can do that fine by downloading the latest official firmware for my device, installing that (BL/AP/CP/CSC) through Odin v3.14.
That installs fine.
Then I sideload Magisk v23.0, and the AP file I just flashed via Odin over adb via push.
I install Magisk, recovery-patch the AP file, usd adb to pull the file back over onto my desktop. I restart the phone in download mode and once again populate Odin with the BL/AP/CP/CSC files, but this time the AP file is the one I got from Magisk.
Start that, let Odin restart my phone whilst I'm holding Bixby/Power-Up/Power, I release those three once the bootloader warning message comes up.
I set the phone up like normal, but there's the issue - my 128GB device only reads as having 32GB - I can setup Magisk fine, it asks me to download an extra bit, then auto-restarts the phone after 5 seconds.
Yay, I have root! Boo, I'm missing 96GB of free space...
I've read that installing TWRP can help fix this, fair enough, I try to install TWRP (I've tried through both the "dd" method via adb shell, and patching the twrp 3.5.2_9-3 via Magisk, and installing with vbmeta over Odin), but that then eliminates Magisk.
I've been trying this now for days, literally days, reading through different forum posts, detailing my steps to myself in notepad++ step-by-step so I can see what it is I'm doing.
I'm left with zero clue what to do now except reach out and hope for some help from this forum.
Should have known... Now that I've posted on XDA it's fixed... In-case anybody else is having trouble here are the steps I've written down for myself.
Phone is S10+ SM-G975F (beyond2lte) - Bootloader / OEM Unlock is already unlocked.
