did everybodies G4 bootlooped? i see no updates and forum had very little activity. seems to me like its dead.
Well there's no development unless someone develop a way to bump the phone's bootloader so that we all can install TWRP, and therefore custom ROMs...

Been out of the G4 community for awhile but thinking about getting one (I found a deal that's pretty cheap on a working model) - did something change with an update that has now proven to be a problem for the bootloader and being unlocked?
I'll do more research of course but I figured I'd just ask and see if that gets me the info faster.
I had heard that over heating had cause some the bootlope problem.
Mine use to get hot i took care of that issue that i was having.

it plays a role but this just makes the problem show up earlier. very slim chances if you get a 601 onwards.
It's 'dead' because of bootloader obviously. Bootloop causes people to go away from this phone, but we would have something left after them. We don't even have a proper G5 Port while G3 is rocking it for a year... More of that, we can have Nougat UX 6.0 port 'easily' but it requires experts to work on that. 2015 was a hard year for smartphones. Every of major phones was a flaw. G4 bootloop, S6 RAM battery camera, HTC M9 was bad at everytbing, Sony? It's just Sony who buys it. Till nexus 6p(which also loops?????) there wasn't a good phone in 2015. 2016 is much better. We got Galaxy S6 2.0(or did they call it S7 afterwards to increase sales? jk), we had HTC comeback in style, LG failed once again, OnePlus released their best phone. Compare those two years... 2015 is at loss

No, actually it's an F500S, oddly enough. Because I live in Las Vegas and we have tourists from all over the planet here constantly there's always a chance that when I buy a device from someone on craigslist it's either a lost one that some tourist left behind in a cab or at a bar or something or somebody flat out stole it from them and the risk is that it'll be blacklisted. This one I just bought for $35 is working, in good condition but with some cosmetic issues on the frame, the front glass it pristine without a mark on it thankfully. It was apparently sold by SK Telecom so it's the Korean model (I think, I literally just got home and sat down as I'm typing this).
I have no idea what it's capable of but it does have a PIN code lock on it. I put my T-Mobile SIM card in it and it connected fast so I know it'll work but I've got to do some research on either bypassing the PIN code lock or just doing a clean flash of the factory ROM (if I can track that down) and going from there. It could always have the Google FRP on it so I'd have to figure out how to get around that as well (there's always a way it seems, sometimes it's just a pain in the ass to do it but it can be done).
So, at the moment it works, no guarantees if it'll suffer from the bootloop, of course, but the serial number is 505KPMZxxxxxx and the date code on the battery is 2015.04.28 so it literally is a 1st production run model.
I know it could die at any moment, sadly, but I'll see what happens. I don't play games on smartphones so really the only time a smartphone ever gets warm because of CPU usage in my experience is running a benchmark like Antutu (which I'm just not going to do with this G4, I know how it performs already) or installing a ROM/the initial first boot which churns along like crap by design.
Wish me luck...

my stock oem its getting weak. i used accubattery and out of 3000mah it charges 1880mah.
still have another trend on 3000mah that last like stock.. i use fecebook app. since my carrier gives me 9GB and i must use the app not browser.. i get around 3 hour using data connection and with trend on i get 4 hour.
are you charging yours with battery in phone and stock charger or you take battery out and use a separate charger. they say our phone stops at 3000mah if you have 5000mah or 8000mah. wich battery you got?

Well I hope i have some answers for some of you who are having this overheating issue. Being that I am on my second GS4 in less than 4 days due to overheating. This is what I got from a sprint repair store who confirmed a couple things for me. One thing he confirmed is the GS4 has poor air-circulation and when the back cover is on it dissipates heat poorly, just like the GS3 and 2. H,,, wondering why samsung didnt address this issue. Second thing he confirmed it that anywhere from 45-60 percent of the batteries are defective to the point of getting hotter than they should, and roughly 15-20 percent of those could cause permanent damage. He said sprint is trying to develop a different backing for the phone to promote better air circulation to help cool it due to the amount of power the phone has, though he wasnt sure when it would be out. Also an update was sent out today and hopefully a heating problem was included within this update.
So my 2nd GS4 was tested and it had a defective battery. I was told if this one has the same issue then I can go back to my note 2. I am thinking I would rather have a stable phone over a faster phone. Hope this helps some of you. Also those who are having this heat issue do not let the phone charge overnight, or charge the phone with the back off. I know it isnt practicle but until samsung fixes the issue we have no other options. Also underclocking doesnt seem to help all of them
If this helps please send a thanks i would appreciate it
I have three batteries so far. One original that came with the phone. One Samsung OEM that came with an external charger that was shipped from south Korea and a Hyperion. None of them overheat. If these batteries are like anything from the laptop fiasco years ago, with faulty cells overheating to the point where the device catches on fire violently.... From what I've seen and what I've been told by a friend that repairs electronics, li on batteries aren't to be messed with. If they go bad or short, you could have a fireball or grenade in your pocket.
Why would Sprint be making a different backing to prevent overheating? Did you mean Samsung?

yes thank Samsung not Sprint
I don't follow other carriers s4 forums. I haven't read any issues on phone sites about this being a wide spread problem. The battery door is the same, or should be the same, between carriers, just different printing on the door. I don't know if OP overclocked at any point. That might have caused later issues. It could have just been a battery that tested OK at the factory, but a cell developed a problem later and started screwing up. Judging by my personal experience when I bought my phone, the original phone I wanted was black but was missing the sim out of the box. I had to take the only remaining s4 they had, which was white . Other people reporting screen issues, and other things, makes me come to the conclusion that Samsung's quality control isn't doing their job or is being told to ship units anyways.
Interesting.
Did you say update today

if 40%-60% of batteries had overheating issues this forum as well as regular News sites would be filled with stories about it.
Aside from the fake story about poor sales that caused a Samsung stock tank I have not read any news articles about defects or problems endemic to the S4.
First of all, what part of the phone feels warm to you? I'd be willing to bet that it's on top by the camera rather than in the middle by the battery. All it means is that you have a phone with a really powerful CPU and no heat sink. The battery isn't the problem. The SOC just runs kind of warm. No cause for alarm.

Thought about installing a small fan in the back. I micro fan that turns on when the cpu area gets warm enough would be bad ass.

Actually you would of lost the bet. lol it is actually on the front of the screen where the battery is. Which also tells me the phone has an issue getting rid of heat. Yes i know screens get warm, but there i diff between warm and so hot the phone shuts off ( i dont use the adjust brigtness auto so please dont say that is the problem). I went back to sprint yesterday and they had the second GS4 I had in the back for three hours, when they were finally done they let me know that they had no fix for it and the manager proceeded to tell me he had 15 GS4's in the back with the same issue. So he said if I was not comfortable with the phone he would give me a new Note 2, so that what I did. I cant believe that samsung would put out such a powerful phone with little to no heat sync. Pretty disappointed

They are actually all over the Sprint community forums. Know I cant vouch on validity of what I was told about a new back in the works all I can do is post my findings here in hopes others will see it. I did not post that to be scrutinized or questioned. It is a known issue the GS4 has a overheating problem you ca call any sprint repair store and they will tell you, and look at the sprint forums. Now he could of said that to get me to stay in the GS4 but I have had many phones and never had an issue with overheating and shutting off.
You also cant say it isnt true. Just because you cant find it doesnt mean it isnt in the works. Just think if they posted that online. Do you know how many upset customers they would have? I think it is smart not to post it until there is a confirmed report done by either samsung or sprint about this issue. Right now all they have are many phones with this issue and the folks who are bringing them in to be checked.
Very interesting.

Hey guys, im thinking of getting a new phone after my disappointment with the lumia 920 and im thinking of getting the s4, g2 or the z1 and with samsung ive had some experience with the sgs and the note and i havent really had any problems with them but ive never had any exp with lg so i wanted to ask you about any COMMON problems (hardware mostly) that this phone (the international version) has because ive been reading things about the screen that frighten me. also worth mentioning is that this phone costs about 550 euros in my country and so does the z1, the s4 about 440 also the customer service is not very good so fixing or replacing the phone will be a little bit of a problem.

What issues have you heard about the screen? This is the best android device ive ever had plain and simple. You wont regret picking one up.

The only advantage of having the s4 over the g2 is you can flash google edition roms if you get bored of touchwiz.which also means that the s4 will probably get kitakat as a google edition update faster than other phones. If you dont care about vanilla android, stick to the g2 it trumps the s4 in every category.

Where did you hear of "excessive overheating"? Literally every smartphone these days does that when you do too much hardcore gaming. At least it won't do this to you http://www.phonearena.com/news/HTC-...the-shape-of-the-phone-on-womans-body_id42542
S800 does a nice job of throttling so it doesn't get too hot.

All the drop tests that sites conduct are complete BS. If you want a phone to survive any drop they you would've gotten a) a Nokia or b) an Armor case from Otterbox.
Simply put, if you want drop protection, buy the phone in my signature. It sucks crap at everything except for durability. And the Z1 shouldn't get any more praise than any other phone; drop it from a considerable height and you'll have a mess.
Ive owned the S4, HTC One, and S4 active (and more but those are the most current) this is by far the best I love it... The only complaint I have is it took me so many phones to find the perfect one

2 months in, and tmobile is already taking $120 off the retail price. sales must be horrendous
I bought my G4 about 1 month ago and mention this discount to a representative who credited my EIP $60 as as courtesy.
Through my trials and tribulations with the G4 I was able to submit three different rebates for both the extra battery and the 128 SD card and sold them all on eBay for an additional $270 minus fees... So all in all I'm in the G4 for dirt cheap but I'm still not satisfied with this piece of crap phone.

This root less phone is just not worth anything.
BAD ASS NOTE 4 & LG G4
every day I use the phone I find more bugs. I can no longer type fast because it misses so many taps. My phone is froze every morning from the wireless charger, so is my girlfriends. half the time double tapping the volume down won't open the camera. if I get a text my screen will turn on and stay on. it will never turn off until I read the text message. If I have an app up that keeps the screen on and I hit the power button, when I turn the screen back on to check the time it will stay on and never go off, even though still at lock screen. I could go on forever. I bet root would fix 98% of this. I think the worst problem, missed taps, is a hardware issue and cannot be fixed with software or root. I'm afraid the phone is complete ****.
I think everyone that has issues should try one factory reset. I feel like that solved all of my problems. Root would be very nice but not a deal breaker like it used to be for me. Now that I have kids the number one priority for me is the camera, and this is about the best there is.

every day I use the phone I find more bugs.

Root isn't gonna fix any of it. It's not some magic thing that does anything really but make your system partition writable. If you're having all of those issues (and the same to the other people having issues) you've probably just got a bad phone from a bad batch of them. I had to RMA my first one, no further issues. Rather than continuously dump on the phone (which, by the way, I don't particularly care for either, and won't have another LG phone in the future, but my issues aren't with bad hardware/software, mostly company dynamics), try and get it fixed/replaced. Your issues will probably be largely fixed.
The factory reset is also a good idea, and will tend to fix most issues...but in the event it doesn't, simply get it replaced. But honestly the hollering about how bad the phone is...? Overall it's a decent piece of hardware. Not the best, but not the worst by any means. Take matters into your own hands and get the thing fixed/replaced.
I have has two G4 devices, and both have been flawless. I have no tap issues and I'm a fast typer. Then there are the people that have been talking about other bugs. I'm just so happy with my G4. Of course every aspect could be bettered, but that's true with every device. I love the G4 and here in Europe the prices drop on every device sooner or later. Especially in down times where people aren't buying phones. Everyone here is getting ready to go on vacation ...

root will fix most of it what are you talking about. xposed framework will fix almost everything. And I don't continuously dump on the phone, this is a thread about the phone not being that great. If you love it and have no issues go find a new thread. I don't particularly care for your opinion either. I have already had it replaced once. I have every intention on changing it out again, but I'll wait a month or so for them to fix the bugs vs getting another **** phone. I might add that when I spoke to LG they said the Verizon ones are having the most trouble.....and that the only difference was software....so once again I believe root will help.

This thread is about the price cut. OP never mentioned anything about phone being horrible. Keep this stay on topic. Some of us were able to get partial refund. Please don't hijack the topic and steer into wrong subject.
This isn't the place to talk about rooting the device.

Already? For contracts they were slashed week one. Free with contract on Amazon
I am perhaps wrong but the G2 and G3 prices didn't go down the same way?

All 3 of my Note 7's are going back!
I'm curious to see how big we can get this thread and I hope it makes a statement.
Dumb T-mobile...becoming ATT and Verizon. Actually with the S7 and Note 7 stunt with locking the bootloader, they have...
Such a shame. We bought the phone so it should be ours 100% to do what we want with it. Wth is this? A lease program you're pulling?
Sorry, but I along with many others will not fall victim to your rubbish tactics. I will not be a slave to your proprietary bs.
Who's with me?
Not everyone uses Samsung Pay. No excuses can justify being okay with the fact of not having full control over a device we pay for. It's straight up communist.
I'm solving the issue by not buying one. Period. As much as I love the phone, I will wait to see the new Nexux.
Did anyone expect it to be unlocked? Lol

Lol, expected? Not really, that'd be a fantasy after seeing the S7. However, it could have been and having that sliver of hope is / was realistic. Reality? Obviously not the case.
Not saying it'll happen, but this isn't the first time we've been in this position with being faced with the impossible.

Yes I am seriously surprised at the number of people that thought it wouldn't be locked. It is like the whole S7 release all over again but this time anyone familiar with Samsung and especially members of XDA should have not been surprised at all.
Although i dont care about such things, i do think Samsung should unlock the bootloader. Once the phone is fully payed off you should have that option. I dont think anyone on a plan like Jump should have the option because those phones get refurbished and if anyone else has ever bought a rooted phone off Craigslist knows the pain when the seller messed up there phone and now is trying to pawn it off on someone else. Or maybe they put all phones that have the bootloader unlocked on a special list made to the public so people like me can avoid thise phones

I'm returning mine just because the difference between the note 7 and s7 edge is negligible. Not for $850

The word, "surprised" would only be valid to some, but to most of the enthusiasts, it's not really that we're surprised, it's just that with the international variant (SD820's being offered in markets where there is no Samsung Pay) and with the out cry of the S7, it's not unreasonable to have had a little hope for the Note 7. Long shot? Uh yea, of course...but like I've said, this isn't the first time at the rodeo where we've been faced with the impossible; that became possible in due time.
Come on guys... Seriously? I love rooting and tinkering just as much as anyone... But you are returning all 3 because the bootloader is locked? I'm amazed you bought them in the first place if this is a deal breaker.
If 1000 phones go back they lose a million dollars...Mine will be one of them as well.... No not really, that is a potential lose but in actuality they will just go into the refurbished pool. 1000 phones is still nothing out of the 25+ million phones they will sell. That is based just on the Q2 sales numbers of the S7 \ S7E. The 1000 phones is only 0.004 % of 25 million phones.
Also returns are just part of everyday business and expected. Unless the return rate was a high percentage, it is just normal business to them.
Unfortunately our numbers and desires mean nothing to them compared to their own...

Why can't we just flash the unlocked w8 bootloader? N5 was always interchangeable, and w8 is also sd820, so why not? Someone should try...they may have left us an out...

lol I know man, this is how I felt when I got the S7E. I said I was done with Samsung and would never buy a locked down phone. Well here I am with my Note7 knowing it was locked. I would prefer to have the option to root and flash custom roms if I wanted to but I decided to just stay stock which is why I was fine buying the phone.
There just isn't another phone out or soon to be out from what I have seen to match this. I am still keeping the Note5 for the wife so if I really get the itch to flash something, I can always do it on that one.

I am sure there is more to it than that but it is a different scenario than what we had with the S7. I would think that this is the most likelihood of the T-Mobile version getting unlocked. BUT with the reports of the F model getting the update that locked down it's bootloader, I think there is a good chance that they will all be locked down before long.

True, once rooted the update can't be forced. The value of the rooted phones could really go up since the supply will start to dwindle.
My v10 got the boot loop of death yesterday so I was essentially forced to upgrade since the phone was out of the warranty period. I wanted to keep my v10 but if I was going to have to start all over I figure I mind as well upgrade.
I miss the design of the v10 it felt heavy and sturdy compared to the v20, especially miss the rails on the side they gave the phone a good feel. I am one of the few that prefers a heavier phone.
The only two issues I have heard about are:
- using non-certified USB type c charge cables may lead to boot loops and other problems
- protect the lens because it breaks easily.
Any other issues I need to know about? T-Mobile variant fyi.
Thanks guys.

You can from the V10.
So in keeping things short, no nothing really to watch out for.
But enjoy
I haven't heard of boot loops using non certified cables yet. Do you have a link?

It's actually here its not confirmed to be the cause but its what LG is claiming.
I hope that's the case because i certainly don't want the freaking G4 boot loop to continue on the v20.

I thought that was confirmed not the truth. Also i think that is the only phone so far that has "bootlooped" Granted when I bricked mine I played it off as a boot/update loop....
Haven't had a single issue...coming from the buggy G5.
This is the best all around, rootable phone I've ever had. And I've had many since the G1.
