Converting A2017G to A2017U most direct method? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

What is the best, most direct way to get from the latest A2017G stock ROM to the latest A2017U stock ROM?
I once did it, but I did a lot of trial and error. I don't remember the exact steps, but I believe the mobile data and phone weren't working.
However, I had no problems when I flashed LineageOS (transforms it to A2017U), but went back to stock due to bad Daydream support.
Also, my country (Japan) has all of the standard signals used in the U.S., and don't have any problem with my U.S.A. Axon Pro.
I tried searching, but was confusing with several older and newer posts contradicting each other and some stuff for the Chinese version to A2017U that I'm not sure if actually applies.
Help is appreciated, and if someone successful in doing it knows where and which ones are the proper steps, I would appreciate if you could paste them here with any correction notes.

HI.
You just have to flash the a2017U StockSystem_by_DrakenFX from recovery.

To answer the question, clean flash the following:
A2017GV1.1.B04 Bootstack (works with the A2017U Stock ROM to keep your modem working) Get it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/stock-rom-a2017g-twrp-flashable-images-t3599069
Then flash the A2017UV1.1.0B25 System. get it here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=176717
Finally have what I wanted
▪ Smooth fully working Daydream (as promised by ZTE)
▪ Live Wallpaper
▪ 'None' option for the Lock Screen
Really didn't think I was asking too much for these, but it ended up taking 10 months and screwing with it myself.
Now I finally own a fully functional mediocre ZTE phone. -Never again.

Flash Chinese Rom on Honor 7EU

Hi to all,
Ive been reading a lot this forum, and i find the chinese version more complete, so my question is simple.
¿is it possible to flash a chinese rom? I like chinese features, and i read it gets more updates.
My only worries are warranty and to lose european radio bands.
Any help?
Give it a try and let us know how you get on....;0)
Thanks for your message sheridan2000,
I'm a newie, until now I only had a nexus 4, wich have a huge community, I don't know how to do if for this new phone I just received, and I'm worried about the warranty, about brick if and if is possible get back to EU flash rom.
My abilities are limited, and with my lack of knowledge I feel is too risky.
If some one with experience can bring some information would be great.
Regards,
Just kidding fella, think at this early stage in developement best not to flash any roms not intended for the EU version as may mess up your phone. When we get a fully working ROOT and TWRP then there will be some safety in doing so....

Agree with him! When we get a stable and well working custom recovery, I think people will mod the Honor 7 more.
Any why do you want the chinese version? I tried a chinese MIUI rom on my Honor 6, and the all the chinese stuff drove me crazy so I had to roll back to a normal EU rom...

Hi!
I feel like chinese rom is more "updated" I think european version is more "conservative" as they might try to secure the user experience. Chinese rom gets much more updates, Ive read something about huawei idchanger; Chinese rom also have more options like recording call, navigation shortcuts, youtube bloat window and download...
In nexus we could chose wich part of the rom we would like to flash, is that posible in this huawei? What I have thought is what about flash the Chinese rom, without flash the radio baseband in order to keep the compatibility with european LTE bands. Any idea??

I did this on my european honor 6 plus. DO NOT DO IT.
No way to get back to european firmware. But was probably because officallollipop was not out yet. More hassle than it was worth. Voided warrenty also. DO NOT ATTEMPT
Thank you for your usefull feedback.
I hope soon someone finds a safe way to run and revert back this kind of test.

One question: you had the complete nandroid backup and you couldn't flashed it after experimenting with the Chinese ROM over EU? How far did you get then or where did you stuck when trying to reverse?
I never had EU Honor 7, but my personal opinion is that before playing with different roms, you should be perfectly aware what are you doing and what do you want to achieve. Changing hardware is out of the question and probably is the same with drivers. At least to the point when a real custom rom appears. As I mentioned there are some modifications of Chinese roms already available as a flashable zip, which don't alternate baseband or kernel in general, but they are customized to particular roms. Flashing any of them on EU rom could be safe only if you can get back in the case anything goes wrong. Otherwise, if you just need a particular system application, you can always try to push it to the system with appropriate file manager and stay safe as long as you have the nandroid backup.
Nandroid backup did not work through twrp.
Chinese rom was fine but was a developer edition.
Phone can not go back to kitkat from chinese lollipop.
Tried offical downgrade package. Did not work.
Tried back up many times. Did not work.
Chinese emui site takes hours to load and most of the time fails through multiple browsers.
Dont waste your life.
I was still in my 14 day return so exhange by my network to honor 7
Never messing with a huawei phone again where there is little to no support
i had tried chinese rom PLK-U00 which is DUAL 4G as per claim by Honor China, what i do is i extract out the boot&recovery&system&cache&userdata img from the update.app (using huawei tools) then flash it under fastboot, it will boot & load to "Android is upgrading" but after the progress finish it restart itself and repeat the "android is upgrading" progress
I've tried the same with 5.1.1 ply-tl01h rom. I get the bootloop with boot and system flashed and almost get to the home screen using the boot from the 121 firmware
Hi,
I hope you could find a way. I know there are chinese roms available, but hard to find and understand, we might ask them in english then they might help us.
I hope you could fix your phone
Hello Guys,
I bought my Honor 7 yesterday, and this is the model number -- PLK-L01C636B120
I tried to update to B121 or B130 or 140, All of them failed.
As I read my device model is Malaysia not Europe, So Can I flash Europe Stock ROM and flash all the updates?

NO i don’t think so! You should do not do that, because there are some differences between both firmwares. Pre-defaults for the mobil-net (modem drivers) ; LTE specifications; maybe some functions like recording during a call etc.
Edit: @Muhammad Rihawi have tried it and it seems to work. But i dont’t recommand it anyway!

Mission Accomplished: Flashing European ROM on the Chinese Mate 9 w/ Locked Bootloade

I've been working at this non-stop for the past week, and I've finally found a way. I am not able to flash a European ROM on the Chinese Mate 9.
I came very close to bricking my device, so I'm currently making sure of the method. Here is what it looks like:
http://imgur.com/a/1ONOF
(I am long-pressing the home button to show it's fully google-ized, in both pictures, but I took my hand out of the picture for paranoia purposes)
So, how is it done? Through eRecovery. I will release the full method once I have tested it enough for public consumption, because I don't want people bricking their devices.
How does it work? It's... interesting.
The version showing up on the phone is the last Chinese firmware which was installed. It doesn't update to show what version it is. In the imgur picture, for instance, it says B109SP01, but it's actually B115 running on it. The phone still thinks it's a Chinese phone, so if you try to get an OTA, you'll probably be getting a Chinese OTA which will not work correctly. So in that sense, it's a bastardized version, and OTAs/updates will not work normally -- You'll have to flash them through a different method.
The positive side is, Google works. Completely. It comes installed out of the gate with account sync, and so on. Other than being Google-fied, some other differences include the permissions menu, the keyboard (SwiftKey is default), and a few other things here and there. The default theme looks strange, and I think it has to do with the cust partition not matching the actual model. This is something I'm currently looking into before release. I'm also looking into using version B122 (or newer if it becomes available) instead of 115.
I'm sure many of you want to get your hands on the European firmware and the method to install it. If you're interested in testing despite one-day-old pre-beta status, shoot me a PM, and I'll try to get you hooked up. In the future, because this method will require a lot of data transfer, I'm considering charging some money to people who download it, and setting up a proper server.
Anyway, for now, know that it's possible, and if you want to do it right away, get in touch with me and I'll try to help!
Update: I have now verified that it's possible to go back to the Chinese ROM. I should have something for those who contacted me wanting to test tomorrow. Since this is a LOT of work, priority will be given to those willing to make a donation.
Although I don't have a Chinese M9 I appreciate your efforts as this opens up the way to flashing other stock and maybe even custom ROM's. Well done!

Unfortunately, I think that custom ROMs will not work with this method, because they're not signed by Huawei.
Wow, That's great news.
I really appreciate your efforts.
I think that you can get a little bit of money in return for your efforts.
I would like to participate in this plan.
Please notify me when the procedure is completed.
Thanks again!
So, here's where we are at right now:
We can flash the system partition of a European firmware, no problem. There's seemingly no issue there.
Where we get the issue is when we look at the cust partition. Because we can't change the actual region of the phone from all/cn to hw/eu, for example, the cust partition has issues. What I mean by issues is, you don't get any of the default themes, various software might be missing features, and so on. Your phone's model number also appears to change from MHA-AL00 to M300-AL00 if you flash the non-Chinese cust partition. When this happens, things go crazy, and you cannot see a proper version number, build number, or model number.
I am looking into making a 'bastardized' version of something to flash, using a Chinese cust partition with an international system rom. Theoretically, this could fix the issues to an extent. It will, however, probably give you a warning upon boot-up that the system has been tampered with, and so on. I will have more information later tonight, Japan time, when I get a chance to work on it some more.
The programs which go missing on a flash of the European firmware are the following:
AutoInStallAPKFromMcc HPLegacyPlugin HwPhoneService PlayGames
Books HwCloudDrive_Local LatinImeGoogle PlusOne
ChromeHomePage HwID Newsstand PredefinedEapSim
GameBoxGlobal HwOUC OMACP talkback
Appmanager HwBetaClub Instagram_Stub Todoist
Booking HwHealthPlatform_OVE Installer Todoist_ntp
DisableTodoistReceiver HwLogUploadService NewsRepublic Twitter
Facebook_Stub HwOUCBeta ProjectMenuAct WPS
Along with all the included themes, and the auto-installer which mounts via USB when you plug the phone in.
Obviously, some of these files are more important than others. All of the things really vital to being able to use the phone can likely be loaded via a Chinese cust partition, but the versions are probably different from the european versions.
Update:
I've obtained a server and am currently setting things up to bring this to the public. The first stage will be a private test. I'm still willing to take some testers who are willing to put their phones in the line of fire! I don't think the private test will launch today, because a new International B126 ROM just came out, so I'm going to base my work off of that for now.
After all the kinks are worked out, I will develop some kind of system for the general public to use. Eventually, this system will be one where you configure your DNS to my server, log into a website, choose what firmware you want to flash, then use eRecovery and that firmware will flash to your phone. I will have to customize all of the international firmware to work perfectly on Chinese devices, and I've yet to do that, but will be working on it. If there's a need, I can expand this system to other Huawei phones. It's exciting times for Mate 9 owners.
Hi duraraa
I have just received my 128g mate 9 in France. I will be happy tomake a donation and participate to the test. Please let me know.

Sure, thank you for your interest. In the meantime, if you are currently on a version like B115 or higher, please downgrade to B106 / B109SP01 so you are familiar with the process.
Update: Now that we can install Google framework on the Chinese latest firmware, I have decided to cancel this project for now. I may keep a server alive to upload to unsupported/beta firmwares, but trying to get the European firmware working well on the Chinese Mate 9 is no longer a priority.
Which version of the firmware Duraraa ?

Just search for GMS in the HiApp store. Huawei released a google framework installer.
But the app twin functionality in Chinese handset only allows QQ and wechat. Please continue with finding out how we can install European Rom on Chinese handset so we can have twin app functionality for whatsapp.

Mate 9 from Taiwan
Hi everyone, keeping an eye on the market I found a very tempting offer on the 64GB version - HUAWEI Mate 9 64GB 4G Dual Sim SIM FREE/ UNLOCKED .
Now, my knowledge of ROM flashing is "level: what is a ROM?", but I am reading lots on the subject , but a couple of months ago I bought a P9 for my wife, chinese Al00 version, no problems to install Google Play but still many things are in chinese, the language correction for english or other EU languages sucks. That is why I decided not to go for Chinese versions unless there were exaustive guides on how to flash the mobile to an international or better european ROM.
Said all that, I wonder if anyone has found an easy way to solve the above mentioned issues - I assume everyone with a chinese version will have similar problems - and if you solved them otherwise.
Thanks for any information you might provide, and sorry if I missed key info to have this question properly addressed, but I will be happy to add it if asked.
Cheers,
Daniele

If i'm right every time i install a new full firmware i will have to reinstal googleplay ?

To install google play and make the phone works for your country, the seller must had messing around with your phone.
So before make any risk, you should unlock bootloader, then you can flash recovery and install A2017U or A2017G (depend on where you live). It have google service pre-install, english without chinese craps.
That could be my next step but i'm not really confident doing this right now (newbee). My concern is will my 2/3/4G work well with a A2017G on a CN phone, no modem or band problem ? Of coure that would be more simple because after i will be able to do all updates with OTA. Anybody can confirm that going from A2017 to A2017G work 100% ? Is there a guide A2017 (CN) to A2017G ? I see a lot of good informations here on xda but i don't want to brick my new phone . So if someone can provide me a step by step or a link with the full procedure that will help me a lot.

I myself run A2016U on chinese model. Work fabulous (wifi, cellurar, mobile network) - as long as you flash right modem.
My phone is already unlock bootloader when seller gives it to me, and I do plenty things (even run into EDL only, but not dead still, chinese model rule!!).
Yes the key point is the modem ... I'm too newbee to make the sorcer apprentice ... I really need some help to do that right.

Okay I also ordered the same phone (A2017 China version) from AliExpress and the seller installed Google play and international language support. My phone came with B07 (same as yours).
Now read this really carefully, your phone is not stock, to install Google play and language support the seller messes around with the phone at the system level, so the phone will not receive OTA updates and will not flash OTA update files, the Chinese recovery is also useless. Any attempt to forcefully update the device will soft brick your phone.
You can keep running the B07 ROM but of you want to update you will have to unlock bootloader, root and install TWRP on your phone.
I have created a rar file with all the files you need to root and unlock bootlader:

Follow the instructions here:
Follow the instructions here.

Remember to run the backup program "axon7backup.exe" to backup your recovery and boot before rooting.
Also update twrp using fastboot once you have unlocked the bootloader.
After installing the latest twrp you can update to the latest nougat chinese build using this:

Thanks Vurio, doing like you said bring me to A2017 B13 Nougat 7.1 in chinese version right ? Is that preferable and more easier to do this than trying to go on A2017G ? I'm in Switzerland and the phone work great 2G/4G so i don't really need to be on G version. Just one more newbee question, every time i put a new firmware i will need to reinstall all my apps and of course Googplay ?
If I flash the u or g version on this phone. Are the LTE bands 20 unlocked like one the g version?
I have the Chinese version. All i done when i got it was flashed the full Chinese firmware and installed Google services and apps. I've been getting the ota updates and am now on 7.1.1. Which came ota Sunday. I did not need to root or anything.
I'm in uk.

Everytime you flash a new ROM, you need to wipe data, so yes you need to reinstall Google play and all your apps. But if you are rooted you can use titanium backup and that makes restoring apps really easy and quick.
About the firmware, axon 7 has 3 versions, Chinese, European and american. Each one comes with its own set of 4g bands and that cannot be changed no matter what you flash.
The Chinese and the american versions are most compatible with each other. You can use the American rom on the Chinese version but the changes will be aesthetic only. You will get rid of all the annoying Chinese text and apps and your phone will look and feel more "global". The modem of the phone will still remain Chinese so the bands won't change.
Ok so titanium is a must because we will have some new firmware this year ...
I'm not a newbie on computer thing but Android .... I discover it on my shield tv 2 monthes before ... I'm not scared to try but it's the fact to try and not to be sure 100% that work.
Your solution same to be the one but i see now that some (other) chinese seller propose A2017 CN version with A2017G installed ... How they do that ? Did they also flash the modem ?
I repeat i dont really need A2017G but i want to apply the most optimal option for my situation and when you don't really know what you do, it's not easy ... Also when you just pay some $$ to a brand new phone ...

The modem will not work. The modem will only work for the particular device. The seller on AliExpress never have the best reputation.
I am guessing that they would flash the European ROM but leave the modem Chinese. This is possible but European compatibility is not the best with Chinese version.
The american on the other hand has the best compatibility and even received updates faster. For eg. American version is on 7.1.1 whereas the European version is on 7.0.
And I completely agree with your sentiments on your new phone. One should always be careful and have complete information before messing around with a phone.
Also titanium backup only works on rooted phones. Titanium and adaway are the only reason that the first thing I do when I get a new phone is root it ??

I bought mine from aliexpress. They done the same thing and put a note saying you shouldn't do anything... Or something to that effect. Trust me, your in exactly the same situation. There's a few threads on here from a few months ago. All you need to do is flash the stock firmware. Flag the Google apps and update them and away you go. Check the threads, I'm out so ain't got time to look but i think they were in the general section. Definately easy as pie. I've not had to write my phone since. Did you flash the official firmware without rooting and installing TWRP?
Yes. I have never rooted the phone or installed any other recovery. Just flashed the firmware by having it on the internal sd card and update software.
Please read through the thread where this is discussed in detail and works easy before you start.
I followed info from that thread and it went fine.

Ok alom5 you got my attention now. I'm really not in hurry f you can give me the thread (when you have some time) tomorow or later. So i need to flash the stock A2017 B07 ( i presume), then reinstall "properly" googplay and after i will receive all news OTA update ? Sound great ... Could be the easiest way for me ... When you flash back to stock and restart can you choice the language or are you only in chinese ?
I'm searching in the forum and if i see right i can directly flash the B13 version for SD ? http://www.zte.com.cn/china/sitecor...rt/detail?id=B4C0ACE418834F588FED0C72D6046C78 I'm downloading right now ... 9 hours remaining ...

Upgrading chinese Axon7 to Android Nougat OS

Hello! I live in the UK but I got an Axon 7 from a chinese reseller, I thought it was a good idea, I was especially looking forward to try daydream. However, I think I need Nougat for that (and some other things), which seems not to be available by normal updates. The current version says "ZTE_A2017V2.1.1B07", MiFavor 4.0.
From reddit, somebody pointed me to the chinese update from the axon7 website, which I am planning to install now. However, I was wondering whether there was any way to change my phone into something like a 2017G edition so that I could then install a non-chinese stock android version. Does what I have just written make any sense or I am not grasping something?
If you could even just link to the right thread or anything, I will it myself and make sure to understand it.
Thanks!

It does make sense, and it's a common thing to do. But a few words first:
OTA will definitely not work
You need to unlock the bootloader to do this, since you need TWRP to flash stuff
You should install A2017U firmware, or at least try both. A2017G's firmware is not very good... i have a G myself.
You have to keep the A2017 modem and install the system without changing it. I'm 99% sure that the only way to do this is using flashable system zips like the ones tron1 made.
And last, but not least... I might sound rude, but why don't you look over Guides, News and Discussions before asking? This way you get your answer instantly... I'm sure I've seen a guide on how to do this.
Hello, I have a Chinese zte axon 7 too. you need up update your b013. get the zip file place on an SD card in the root directory. from this the Android N updates will roll it.
welcome to the UK Chinese axon 7 club. let me know if you need anything else. I've had mine now for 6 months and it's a great phone.

A2017G updates?

Hi,
I just received my A2017G from Gear Best a week ago to replace my crappy Asus Zenfone 3. So far the Axon 7 has out performed the Zenfone 3 in a number of important areas and I mostly like it. However, it is still on Android 6.0.1 with B11. That is nearly a year old now but I cannot find any OTA updates. I had found the B05 update on ZTE's site, is that safe to install? Any show stopping problems or bugs with that? Is there a newer and/or better one? I do not want to screw up my brand new phone that is bought to replace a screwed up Zenfone 3 which had bad updates and Asus not fixing the bugs their updates introduced. In the past, I had phones and tablets being turned to crap after updates so I am weary about applying any updates.
Is it possible to install the A2017U firmware onto my A2017G phone without root? I do not want to root as I had bricked a brand new phone in the past by rooting.

Look, you should have no problem updating via official channels. If anything does happen, simply with a 4gb SD card you can fix it. And if it bricks you can use MiFlash most of the time, so don't worry about official updates. The risky part is TWRP and that kind of thing, though basically that's what we are here for...
ZTE's OTAs are hopelessly broken, they only work if you are on certain locales and system versions, but fortunately they made a pretty okay update system.
Before doing anything, check that your phone is an A2017G by looking at the back. If it's from GearBest it should be an A2017G, but many times people bought an A2017 with A2017G firmware and lost the signal while updating with an A2017G package.
The latest version is B09 for the A2017G. It's from Sweden but it works on any G.
DO NOT INSTALL A2017U or A2017 UPDATES ON YOUR PHONE UNLESS YOU WANT TO LOSE SIGNAL AND MAYBE YOUR IMEIS.
There is a special method to install U firmware on the G but it involves modifying zips and unlocking the bootloader.
For the A2017G B09 update, simply go to raystef66's Download center and download the B09 update zip. Then just put it on the root of the internal storage and go to Updates, and it should pop up as an OTA
For the future: If you download one of these update zips from ZTE, you will get a zip with a bunch of numbers as the name. The actual zip that you want is inside that zip, and it's called update.zip.
What Raystef66 does is get that zip, unpack it, rename it to something understandable, and upload it to androidfilehost. So you're better off geting your updates from there

Thanks for such a detailed answer. I can confirm that mine is the A2017g version as it says so both on the back and on the box.
Is there any major problems with the B09 update? The reason I am very weary about updates is Asus broke the Bluetooth, camera focus and even the phone's charging with their updates and did not fix it for months. This is the reason I got the ZTE Axon 7 and I do not wish to break it as it is functioning perfectly at the moment.

That happened with the first 3 Nougat versions. B01 was somewhat okay, B02 broke a couple things, and B03 fixed those but destroyed Google services. Ever since B03 we've been mostly bug-free, and they weren't too slow to fix stuff anyways
I've run B04 B08 and now B09 and to be honest, not seen a real difference between them, all stable. Phone works good. I did have to fix my APN settings a little after the B08 update but that's easy.
Nougat B09 wifi issue
ello everyone, my name is John, live in Romania. I own an axon7, A2017G from Gearbest, just updated from MMB11 to Nougat, B09, using info from here, thanks. One problem though, onMM it would connect at 866 mbs to my 5GHz network, and test just below 400mbs. On Nougat, it connects at 433mbs and tests around 260 mbs. No change tot the router, not even restart. Do you know how to correct this? Maybe older version of N? Have a nice day. Your help here is invaluable...
Maybe check settings for location as different countries have a different range of channels etc.

Hello,
What do you mean? Like regional settings (language)? There are no location related options in wifi settings... Maybe I could find some settings in hidden menu, but I don`t know how to access that... In developer options, I couldn`t find anything related.
Have a great day

Nah, I think it's a known problem. Maybe make a thread about this, I remember that there were some people talking about this before

Thanks a lot! Just updated to B09, everything seems fine at the moment. Took no more than 30 minutes from starting download to finishing. Very easily done. Just need to relearn all the differences, luckily I only had this phone for a week now only.
Anyone tried Pokemon Go with B09?

Yeah, I already tried 3 versions of Nougat, B06, B08, B09 and it is the same on all if them. If i flashed MM B11 again, then it would connect at 866mbs again. I have sent an email to zte support... Anyway, now I am on B09 N, but it seems phone is a little warm all the time...has anyone else experienced that?
Thanks for answer, have an interesting day.
Different between Nugat B09 and B11

Basically the differences are Nougat, improved camera with RAW, Daydream, and maybe some more stuff but i don't remember.
I can't live without the double tap on Recents and I believe performance is better on Nougat, but aside from that and security patches MM is still okay
Oreo seems to be confirmed.

Hi, 260 mbs and 866 mbs are the same speed actually, so there is no need to worry about the sideload speed. Thanks!
Axon 7 A2017G
Hello William, thanks for the answer.
I reversed to MM B11 now, but there is a problem in the mi favor launcher, when accessing google apps folder, the launcher crashes and after 3 crashes it resests all view and icons? Why?
I will flash Nougat, I live in Romania...which variant should I flash, the B05 which is for Romania, on ZTE support page, or B09 (Sweden)?
Thanks have a great day and happy holidays.

Salut ciumurel!
I'm using the Swedish B09 with digi.mobil and I have no network connectivity issues whatsoever.
Hello rzarechta,
I am also using axon 7 on digimobil...do you have a 5GHz wifi network? On mine, it connects at 866mbs and scores around 350 mbs in speedtest, on MMB11 but on Nougat, it connects at 433mbs and only scores around 250mbs. Do you have some advice, an alternative for the gallery apk, for the axon? It is horrible, does not show which albums are on sd card and which on phone storage...I also don't like google photos...
Thank you very much for helping.
