Direct Share targets changed/gone? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

So, somehow in the last couple of days, Facebook Messenger (which I almost never use) hijacked Direct Share, and occupies the top slots. Okay, so I uninstalled it. Aaaaand nothing returned to normal. I can't get any contracts to show up I'm the Direct Share menu now from any app or website. Anyone else experiencing this? I tried uninstalling Messenger, clearing cache, and Settings Reset. Nothing. My top 3 options were then Local Cast (NEVER used in Direct Share) and Google Drive (also NEVER used). I uninstalled both of those. Now I have NO "top slots." WTH?!

Can't DL from Market, Can't Connect to GTalk

Anyone else having these problems?
Starting Download...
When you try to download from the Market, it hangs at "Starting Download..." and stays there for days? When you try to open Gtalk it perhaps immediately force-closes?
I was trying to find the solution to this for about four or five days - in the end, I had to do a factory reset. Google is (mostly) unresponsive about this problem.
Things I tried:
Toggling Wifi (nothing)
Changing google acct password so the Market has to ask for it again, perhaps resetting something? (didn't work)
Clearing data, cache, the whole shebang from Gtalk, Market, Gapps (no juice)
Couple of restarts (noooope)
Starting downloads and then killing the Market app - still nothing, and done mostly as a last resort.
Possible causes:
It was not tied to rooting the device - what I think happened was when I went to purchase Root Explorer, I had to create a Google Checkout subaccount, and then I was able to grab it...but after that, I could not install any apps from the Market. It seems like internationally this issue is tied to being @googlemail vs @gmail, but that wasn't my case. I've since restored Vb to her former glory, but it was tedious...factory resets suck and I hope I never have to do another one.
What I've done to keep this from happening in the future:
ROM Manager and Clockwork Recovery. I had backups of my apps and data on my computer of course, but this is soooo much easier.
I'll definitely let you know if it ends up flailing out on me again, but so far I haven't had any problems. If you have an app to back up your stuff, or if you want to just do it manually, do that and then selectively restore things after the factory reset. I actually had so few apps that I ended up just re-downloading them from the Market and everything is working smoothly, but that might be a hassle for others.
I had this problem back on my G1 but that was because I removed the IM.apk package not knowing what the result would be. I got it reinstalled and all was well. I've not run into this issue yet with my Vibrant nor do I know anyone else who has.
Had the same issue and found a way to fix it.
Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Filter -> All -> Download Manager -> Clear Data
Should work. Worked twice for me. I think this is a Vibrant issue

Not so, fortunately or unfortunately. People have been having this issue for over a year and a half, and different things fix it for different people.

Cannot install apps from Market or Appbrain

Hi folks,
Dont know what is happening here, but for whatever reason I cannot install any apps from AppBrain or Market.
This problem also exists or is consistent with no matter which ROM that I use, meaning if I use JoeStones, CM7, whatever.
Saying this, I what I can do is download .APK files or apps on my own webspace fine enough. Which then show up in downloads and install fine so just not sure why it is that I cannot install from Market or Appbrain.
The message I get from Market is when clicking install is: Starting Download
And that is it, nothing else happens and it seems to sit on that for endlessly so then cancel it and try to figure out why it wont download so I can install, hence which brings me to here making this post.
Any ideas or possible solutions?
(I have also used the reset factory after doing previous installs with no effect)
Folks, I finally found the answer to my problem to the questions I asked.
For the sake of others whom come across the same problem ever, in this instance it may have something to do with what Modem/Router/Firewall you are using.
The case for me I am using a Billion modem router with firewall set to high and discovered I need to allow TCP port 5228 allow outbound traffic to the exceptions or rules.
This then allows google talk to start straight up and downloads just flew down over my WLAN where I use my phone.
Sorry for all the previous questions or posts, but I never knew that Market downloading was on a Port related task basis.
Good luck to others whom also come across this issue.
Cheers
Same Problme for me..I am using GPRS only how to solve my Problem...
Hi there,
my problem is that I can't download some apps from market. These apps are large (like Angry Birds or similar, bigger that 15 mb). When I try to download a notification appears, which tells me, that it's starting download and then it disappears. And with smaller apps like translator or astrid task list I don't have any problems.
It started about 1-2 weeks ago.
The problem isn't in my network connection - I disabled firewall (droidwall), checked if app will be downloaded on gprs/edge, 3g and multiple wi-fi's (included hotspot made by my friend from his htc, which downloads apps).
I looked over the web to find the solution and here's the list of what I've tried:
1. Log in to gtalk while downloading.
2. Delete market cache.
3. Delete market data.
4. Delete download manager cache&data.
5. Unmount SD card while download is starting (and mount it back).
6. Uninstall market updates.
7. Make '.cache' folder on sd card.
And it didn't work. I didn't try to use factory reset, but I believe you'll find the solution (btw what does factory reset delete?).
Please help me, because I simply don't know what to do next.
Ah, and last thing: I use Android 2.3.5, swiftdroid 2.0 rc4 (based on cyanogen mod 7.1.0 RC1).
Which is the best rom that supports all the things????with out market android sucks

Play Store stuck in"download"

When attempting to update installed apps or install new apps, Play Storee app just gets stuck at the animated download bar. It doesn't actually download anything. No progress is indicated. No data size xxMB/xxMB is displayed. It just sits there with that stupid animated download bar.
I have tried the following, to no avail:
-Rebooted
-Cleared cache thru Recovery Console
-Cleared cache and data for Play Store and Download Manager apps
-Cleared all apps' cache thru Titanium Backup
-Removed and re-added my Google account
Does anybody have any other ideas? I've been trying to avoid a factory reset, as I hate having to redo my apps and homescreens.
FYI - This is an 1838-25U 32GB w/0089US
TIA
Same here?!?!?
Any ideas??
I had the same issue.
I downloaded SD Maid , ran all the "cleanup" utilities available in the free version and it got better
I have this problem too. How do we get sd maid from the app store if we can't download apps?

After updating to ICS, normal Play Store functionality has returned.
how do i update to ICS?
mmmm Ice cream....
Just the standard "check for updates" in the settings/about menu.
If you're rooted, you'll wanna first temporarily unroot using Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper, and restore root after update.
I flash from 86 to 89.. the market was stuck downloading.
I re-flashed the gapps to a slightly older version of the market. Once booted back into Android, this forced the PlayStore update from google and corrected the stuck download error.
okay thank you i upgraded and it works fine now.
:good::good::good:*RELIEF* :good::good::good:
I was really surprised to come back to the Thinkpad xda forum for this issue after hunting all around the nets for a solution. I wasn't looking for TPT. Hmmmm.
I didn't get stuck until after my ICS upgrade. I've even tried v3.7.11 & 13 of Play, and still no go.
Here's a list of suggestions I've tried and none worked for me:
Rebooting, pretty much between/in the middle of the following (of course)
Clearing Play cache & data
Clearing Download manager cache & data
Launching Market 1.1.0 (that flopped entirely)
Unfreezing Market and Market Updater in Titanium Backup
Three newest versions of Play
Double checking that I can download other stuff from other sources
Enabling (& disabling & re-enabling) background data
Enabling (& disabling & re-enabling) USB Debugging
Downloading apps via wifi on my phones to make sure it wasn't my router, login or somesuch
(Re)Signing in to GTalk
Disabling Avast Firewall
Enabling & disabling Unkown Sources
Clearing out some fairly useless, space-hogging games
And Mercury isn't even retrograde yet.
About 15 minutes ago I contacted Google Play support.

Addendum: OK, it's 24 hours or so, and I haven't heard from Google. Last night I, too, bit the bullet, by doing a factory reset. I noticed that the Play store version (which I had uninstalled prior to the reset) was 3.7.13 after the reset (with the perfunctory online updating the tablet does). It worked, anyway.
It almost seemed to me like the download process couldn't access something it needed, like a symlink or something was missing and there wasn't any error handling for it, it just kept looking.
It startled me how useless the gadget seemed (I know it wasn't) without being to get my favorite app's crucial updates, most of which require root access for one reason or another. Tech head games. I was definitely more frustrated than the situation warranted.
I started to have this issue on Thursday evening when trying to update all my apps before I even considered the upgrade to ICS. I wanted to get everything straight, test it out and then decide if I wanted to upgrade or wait to see the reports. But, once I tried to update about 12 apps, I got the dreaded "Downloading" issue. I tried all the suggestions listed and even downloaded the version of Play for Jelly Bean, but stopped short of using it. Google support was very nice and tried everything for me at 10:30 P.M. In the end, I just bit the bullet and upgraded to ICS and that solved the trouble. The odd thing for me was we tried to remove Play through the normal channels so I would revert back to Market and then upgrade again. That hosed things nicely. I had market on the device, it was running, but no icon would display. In all, this forced me to upgraded to ICS sooner than I wanted, but as it all worked out well I am not complaining.
Still, it would be nice to know how wide-spread this issue might be and what caused it. I want to think the download of the ICS upgrade was the cause, but I don't have any proof.
Same Result I have Tried Different Devices on MTNL Network
I am using these devices for several months. and all things are fine until this august.
I have tested different devives Like galaxy r, galaxy s2 and galaxy y. All are getting stuck on downloading sometimes. during this i can do surfing, browse other apps and games in play store etc etc. But the downloading still stuck at downloading.
When I tried different internet like mobile 2g and 3g and other network except MTNL. The results are good.
I Think Play Store is blocking my ip address.
If any one has solution please help or someone tell google about this please...
Thank you..
I had the issue.
What solved it for me was running a program called SD Maid.
I ran the one test specific to my SD Card's files, and it worked fine for me after that.
This was on HoneyComb.
Reflashing shd work
Reflashing Google apps should work.

[Q] Metro apps crashing due to "sharing" of app data folder

Some of my Metro apps either no longer launch or launch but do not load or work once loaded.. Here's what I did:
I recently discovered how much I liked the Music app so I decided to import some music by adding libraries through "computer" and "libraries" and "properties". For some reason some playlists were being picked up so I did something very dumb and allow sharing of my whole C: in hopes for it to pick up some music that the Music app had a hard time finding.
Well that royally screwed some things up and stopped my Metro apps from opening. I guess messing with sharing permissions wasn't a smart idea. I couldn't find any way to un-do so what I did so I tried to do a system restore to a restore point from earlier that day. After restoring I noticed some Metro apps on the had a little "x" in the bottom right corner of the tile. I clicked on it and it took me to a message saying that the app could no longer run because my developer license had expired. Funny, but I never had a dev license to begin with nor do I know what that has to do with anything. So naturally I uninstalled the apps that wouldn't work (approx. 6) and re-installed them. Most worked, some still did not.
Once re-installed I noticed that "Tweetro" (twitter app) opens but no longer shows anything but the logo on the top left corner. Just a black screen. I can access the charms bar but nothing else. So I tried another twitter client which just opened but wouldn't allow me to sign in, just kept showing the "click here to sign in" no matter how much I clicked sign in.
The Sports app just auto closes if I try to launch it. Same with the News app. When I go into Ebay now it just shows "loading" on all the tiles. I've no confirmed that it was in fact a problem I created due to allowing sharing of the C drive. Apparently the hidden folder "app data" is the culprit and causes this problem when shared. I'd like to know how to un-do this problem without a refresh or reset of Windows. Apparently undoing sharing privileges from the "app data" folder does not resolve things.

Unable to download webpages on chrome

I set up my fourth. yes fourth, V20 last week (the perils of buying used phones on ebay!) and all seems good. But I noticed a couple of days ago that whenever I try to download the page I'm viewing on chrome, it begins to download but then I get the message,
Download unsuccessful
Download is canceled The content is not valid to download
The pages get the tick in the notification bar and show up in the downloaded section, but when I click on them, there's nothing!
I've tried switching to data and have never had any issues with other phones doing this. I'm still on the stock ROM and not rooted. I'm in the UK and viewing UK sites, this is really odd. Does anyone have any suggestions as I caouldn't find anything when I searched online
This obviously isn't the place to ask for help with a Google app. Contact Google through email about their Chome app.
Would anyone have any (useful) suggestions regarding this? It's highly unlikely to be a chrome issue as I've never had problems on any other phones in similar situations (obviously I tried to contact them and went on their forums but I couldn't find anyone who'd experienced the same issue). I can't get the full UK keyboard due to some random geo lock on the H910, that's why I was wondering if anyone had any V20 specific suggestions?
I'd have happily moved to a Chromium based third party browser but I need the sync capability so that the bookmarks are also available on my desktop, so it's Chrome or Firefox as things stand (not really a fan of Opera).
As an aside - I've not found a solution to this and it's NOT limited to Chrome, it is the same when I run Brave, a Chromium browser. So the issue isn't purely Chrome.
It's a sizable pain in the posterior when travelling - it's great to be able to download a selection of web pages before setting off into areas with very patchy signal. I used to use Pocket, but I'd much rather know why I can't use the native function.
