I thought during one of the reviews I was listening to that there was an option on the G6 to adjust the display mode. Vivid, normal, excetera. I can't seem to find it if there is.

Nope, that was the S8 that have an option like that, like on the S7.
On the G6 you have a blue light filter, and can adjust that
Settings, Accessibility, Vision, Screen Color Adjustment.

Only SE i think all the SE phones had this menu, i know it from my k750
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting! My Arc reports an ambient light sensor. If I hold over the top of the phone I get a value of 1, then it increases to 9 if exposed to light. So the phone knows how bright it is around it but there is no "automatic" setting for the backlight!
Also, the side LED can show red, green and blue, and also yellow if the phone is on while charging. If the led is RGB it can be used as the trackball on the Nexus One, great for notifications, even if the placement of the led itself is a bit off.

I think the autobrightness is always on... and we can't disable it.
If it does it needs some serious software tweaking...

Auto brightness isn't fast, it's really slowly changing the backlight. Outside is goes brightest and everything is clear. maybe we will get a option for it in the next software updates or custom rom
But there are also quick brightness settings in the widget, so you can make max and minimum. We should be able to control it though.

Yeah. It also seems to work in a very narrow band. Say you set brightness at 50%, then it only seems to adjust a little bit down and a little bit up.
With my N1 set at auto it went from full 100% super-bright in direct sunlight (you still couldn't read the screen in sunlight, damn 1. gen AMOLED) to very dark in a pitch black room. It worked very very well.
The good news is that the Arc indeed has a light sensor, it then down to software tweaks to get it to perform like Google intended. An "unlock" for "automatic brightness" in the display settings menu would be excellent. Also, it isn't that slow. The service-menu changes values quite quick so the lag in brightness adjustment must a "feature" in the SE software.
A display of the Arc sensor uselessness: You're outside in bright sunlight with the display at 100%, works great. Then you go in to take a nap. When setting the alarm in your dark bedroom the phone will not be very dim at all and burn your eyes out.
what do you see when you press this? is this the control where you can do all service tests and see total call time etc?
It's in the service-menu, yes.
i can test! but service setting was no item...

You need to be on stock ROM for it to work.

Did you make sure to turn off "Auto adjust screen power"?

I was a bit quick to judge. Now I did set both devices equally did a synchronised screen test, and I covered part of the Note to equalise surfaces.
They look equally bright only the white is notably different to me, a bit pink on the Note and a bit blue on S2. The 'blue white' looks a bit brighter on the S2.
display mode
you do know there is an option to chosse display mode in the screen settings. it allows you to choose movie, regular, or vibrant. these settings could affect the white looking pink. try different modes and see if the white is changed any.

I have no issues with my Note display colours, for me it's great. On request I compared to my S2. Display mode settings on both phones where set to standard to compare
Hi peoples
Does anybody know of a way of reducing the backlight brightness below the stock settings?
I've tried various screen filters, such haxor Screen Filter, but these apps are rubbish IMO. All they do is apply a grey transparency filter over the screen, they don't actually reduce the backlight brightness The result is a trick, the screen looks darker but it's really only because the white pixels are made grey. The problem with this approach is that it messes up the contrast and colors, and gives a washed out look.
I like to sometimes use my N10 in a pitch black room, which needs a very dark screen. My old Galaxy Tab 8.9 was good for this, because the backlight was able to go much darker than the N10. The thing is, I know the N10 hardware is capable of having a darker backlight because if you don't touch the tablet for a few minutes, the screen first goes dim before it turns off.
I would like to be able to manually activate the very dim screen setting, or better still, have a lower brightness range available in the brightness settings.

Thanks - works a charm!
I really love this new Always On Display (AOD) feature, it's really classy and elegant.
But, one thing I noticed is that the brightness level seems to be automatically adjusted, and when its bright it surely drains the battery.
Is there anyway to set this brightness manually? I tried changing the display brightness in manual mode, but it does not seem to use that settings.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I dont think there is an option, if there is i am also interested.
I personally thought the Display sometimes was too bright.
i..e In a Dark Room and the Light was more ambient than it really needed to be.
Then the misses would ask me to turn off the night light lol!
Always On
Dear All, I just bought my S7 Edge and picked it up yesterday. I'm quite impressed with this display!
I thought the same thing you guys tought... The Always On Display is very bright!
But here is some info that I searched over the internet. Don't know about it's reliability, but seems legit.
New Always On Display
An interesting function that first appeared on the Galaxy Note 4 Edge in 2014 was always keeping a portion of the OLED screen on when the phone is off (in standby), so certain content can be displayed all day and all night long, but with a very small power drain that has very little effect on the battery running time. This is possible on an OLED display with a mostly black background because every sub-pixel is independently powered, so black pixels and sub-pixels don’t use any power.
The new Always On Display mode shows various personalized clock, calendar, status messages, notifications, and images on the main screen when the phone is on standby. It measures the ambient light level and has both day and night modes, plus it’s smart enough to stay off when the phone display is face down, or it senses a dark confined space such as a pocket or handbag. The OLED display produces an illuminated main screen image 24 hours a day so you can always discreetly check it with just a glance. As a result, the OLED Always On Display will reduce the need for a smartwatch, which seems likely to become an endangered species. We’ll cover this in more detail below.
Here is where I picked it up. Cheers Guys!
(Received a message with the information that I can't post url's.. ) sorry...
Type this in google, "always on display s7 edge brightnes" then it is the 3rd link in the url contains displaymate
same, it quite bright, and with my testing if you can keep ut at its lowest brightness, it consumes 0.3%/hr. that would be absolutely great.
there is an app always on display plus which helps in that
if you mark on auto brightness , it will be done
I unmarked Auto Brightness and seems not brights
Hello guys did anyone find a solution to this?

I've noticed that it is automatically adjusting by the amount of light in the room (and it's quite sensitive, always brighter than needed). It would be great if there was an option to manually set the brightness, but only small bunch of people are actually interested in this.

This app does not changing the actual brightens, seams to be there is no solution yet.
I tried changing the screen brightness to minimum and disabling auto brightness, but the AoD brightness seems to be controlled independently.
Trying out an app called Always On AMOLED - it has a night mode. Gonna test power consumption of both
Mine used to auto adjust but not anymore. I think the last software update changed this.
GS7
I'd love to have an adjustment setting. I'm having the opposite problem as most. Mine isn't bright enough! Oh well. Hope they change that!
AOD brightness fix for Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. May fix others
This may not help everyone as I am giving you the solution for the S9 and S9 Plus, but look in your settings to see if you have the same thing.
Under 'Lock Screen and Security' select AOD and select 'Show Always'. Once you've selected the Content to Show, disable Auto Brightness then move the slider as far right as possible and underneath that select Show Always.
Job done. Next time you see your AOD it'll be full brightness. It is still not bright enough but better than before. If you then go into 'Clock Style' and change the colour after type and choose a fairly stand out colour, this will make your clock stand out even more.
I hope I've helped at least a few people.

i feel like its to bright... i want to dim it. dont need it to be that clear.... i wil continue my search....
Threw search and having both s7 and s9+ I noticed the 9+ has the ability to adjust the brightness of the AOD very easily in settings or double tap the screen and u see the settings. Works perfect on the 9+ as for the s7 doesnt have the same settings they both say the latest version available is downloaded but it's an s7.. so I just think that setting dont exist on the s7. The brightness is controlled on it's own and u really have no control manually on the brightness.. I think it's a new thing for new galaxies but the 7 isnt gonna do it.. eh.. so I suggest a contrast color which makes it "brighter" to the eye. And basic and big.. it's for quick glances anyways... sucks tho..
Is anyone using Daydream VR here? I do, and I experiencing some really low brightness when I'm in VR mode.
My question is that it's possible to override somehow screen brightness when I'm in VR Mode? The users who use Daydream know that the moment you start the Daydream app the screen brightness get lower than default, and I can't change it, it's really annoying.

Have the same issue! Any one can help? Also, do Axon 7 have display settings for VR like Pixels? Cant find them.
Have you tried using manual brightness? My first thought is that it's the light sensor being covered making the phone think you're in a dark room. If so, it should be fixed by turning off the auto setting.

i dont have axon 7 but i know its amoled screen so
it uses PWM to have lower brightness (blinks fast on and off 240hz? some says? hw info app)
so its low brigthness may be to have better fps/hz
100% brightness has no pwm. (Pulse Width Modulation is not good for the eyes though, some are sensitive and others less so)
On Options --> Display, there's an option (at least in LOS) which says 'When on VR'
-reduce blur
-reduce flickering
Maybe try changing that setting if you can?
If you bought this phone because of its VR capabilities, don't install LOS since it still has trouble with VR and stuff
