I've been using a Galaxy phone for so long that I didn't realize the rest of Android has dropped the menu button in favor of a recent apps button. Now that Samsung has fallen in line with the GS5, they seem to have replaced the home button long press functionality with GVS, a la Siri, something I find genuinely useful.
Is it possible to obtain this functionality on the Note 3 or another Galaxy phone still rocking a menu button?
If you double press the home key on the note 3 it will bring up the "s voice"menu. Essentially Samsung's crappy version of Google search. There is an app called something similar to "s for switch voice" that will open up Google search rather than Samsung's search.
Sorry if this is the wrong category, I didn't know where to post this I have a problem with my Google assistant (galaxy s4 running nougat 7.1.1) The assistant only works when saying "OK google" but when I hold my home button it just launches the Google app. Help would be appreciated! (Sorry for any mistakes I made)
Change the button mapping.

I'm on S8 and I can't make S Voice be the home button default app, it always pop Google
Already cleared Google app data,
Also doesn't appear in app selection as it was in S7 Edge

S voice is dead starting from the galaxy s8. It is (or will be in the very near future) replaced by Bixby that has its own button below the volume keys and doesn't need to use the home button at all.

Once I have the google bar in desktop I see no usage for long press in home button for same function so in my S7 Edge I had S Voice to pull contacts for example.
Never tried Bixby as it's not available in my language.

I get what you're saying. But it is what it is.
As a side note, the home button no longer brings up Google now cards or search, like the search bar on the home screen. Now it's set to call up Google assistant, for what it's worth. I personally use its voice feature only for alarms, reminders and fact searches.

Bixby is not available in many languages now but out and available to every one, so I think svoice has made its time now it will be more useless as it was until now. Bixby seems very promising and much more complete and advanced as every other voice assistants I think
