Guys, I have noticed that, about 2 days ago, the Facebook app began to create a weird issue when I click the back button to close the app. Someone already made a video clip as seen below to illustrate the issue. Does anyone have the same issue and found a way to fix it? This hiccup really annoys me

I really don't know what causes this issue. Maybe Facebook app is the one to blame since I am using Nova launcher and the other guys use stock launcher.

I am also using the stock launcher. Probably is the facebook app as you said. Tested almost all my apps but it's the only one with the problem.
I'm 99% sure there's something wrong with their adaptation to full screen mode and it forces a redraw once you exit. It's been annoying the heck out of me.
I think I found a work-around solution for this issue temporarily. This is how I did:
1. Changed your default launcher to stock Samsung.
2. Restarted the device.
3. Changed the launcher to Nova.
4. Changed the Facebook icon to something else.
5. Clicked on Facebook app, used the back button .... and the wallpaper didn't jump!
I updated to the new OTA today, and the problem came back. However, when I went through the same steps, the issue stopped. Give it a try, guys!
I have the S8 and noticed this too, but I never took note of which app caused it. Now I know it's Facebook
I am unique.butt From Softlinks.
The Solution is so simple click and hold on Facebook App icone Then go into app info and scroll down and find the option (Appear On Top) disable this option now your Facebook app will close with back key if you fave similar problem with ither android app you can do this with those apps as well i hope you will like this solution thanks.

ok so this is kinda weird.....I have my messager icon on the bottom and occasionally it will open up a different app.....not sure if it's entirely related to launcher pro.....but I am running it along with Bonsai ROM 3.0....anyone experience this?
On on bonsai to.with launcher pro and never had this happen.before. maybe your phone is trying.to tell you something. Lol

Sure you aren't accidentally swiping it and your swipe gesture is set to another app?
^
I'll wager $947 on that one.
I've tried almost every launcher and have never seen (random) behavior like that.
While it is highly possible the problem is what was posted above, I have seen elsewhere that people were having their sms app open something else. It doesn't seem widespread though.

You sure you don't have it set up as a different app, with the messenger icon as it's custom icon?
I had some funny behavior like this when I had restored /data after flashing a rom. Some apps were being launched with the wrong icons and a lot of contacts were linking to the wrong info. I wiped data, reflashed and then used Titanium to restore everything and the problem went away.
It's only happened once and I restore /data a lot, so maybe that was it, maybe it wasn't. I was quite glad to have the problem disappear.
I've had this happen to me before too a few times. For instance, I'll hit the browser icon, and it'll take me to messaging.
I cant offer an explanation though.
You'll lose that bet cause I had that issue too ... lol

Hi!
I'm new to the XDA forums.
I have noticed a strange behaviour using buttons while exit applications on KitKat. The issue was not present in Jelly Bean, while I can notice it in KitKat. I thought it was a minor 4.4 bug, but it's still present in 4.4.2 too.
I am running Android 4.4.2 on a Nexus 4, no root, no system modifications at all.
Steps to reproduce the bug:
- Go to your home screen.
- Tap on battery settings from the quick settings dropdown menu;
- Use home button to come back to the home screen;
- Once again, tap on battery settings from the quick settings dropdown menu;
- This time, use back button to go back;
- Enjoy another background app opening for a second with no reason before going back to your home screen.
I cannot post videos since I'm a new user, but if you wanna check, the youtube code for it is 40Rs6vnx_Wc
Thanks in advance!
No one?
Yes, I've reproduced that but why should it be a bug? Or may be you should learn how the back button in android works? Why do you use it at all when you have the home button and the fast app switching button? It's a matter of time for the back button to be dropped down. Unless of course the "only one home button" thing is not patented by Apple so that back button has to stay. Remember what happened with the search button? It's gone for good. And really that back button is only useful in browsers or if you want to go backwards a sequence of actions inside a single app. Most apps use the back button to quit or run in the background.

@evdrmr, thanks for the feedback.
I still don't get the hatred, but thank you for the time spent in reproducing the bug and confirming that I'm not the only one affected by this issue.
Yeah...der for me too... noticed it some time back while i was on 4.0 too... don't think its caused by 4.4.2 (rather not fixed by 4.4.2)...
And somehow, its always the gallery app for me...

No hatred matey. It's just one of those days... You know. Last night I went to the cinema and watched The Hobbit, had only a couple of hours to sleep, woke up early... Usual stuff.
Oh, and do you know what? It could be a bug... Why don't you report it to Google or to a bug tracker? Have you checked all available 4.4.2 ROMs if they are infected with it or someone has already found a cure? Or why don't you exploit it further and write a dirty little app to gain control over people's phones through this flaw? And how the f*ck did you even find it? Sounds like an incredible amount of spare time on your hands to me. Or just a pattern based repetitive clicks due to lack of "some more important things to do"?

Thank you so much about that comparison. I like it and I wouldn't be able to think of a better phrase to describe myself. And do you know why I like it so much??? ...OFC you don't. Because Kuoshik Dutta used to be called exactly the same by many people recently and still he is one of the best developers out there. That makes me feel one step closer to the gods. Any idea what would cause ALL of my homescreen widgets to stop updating i.e. freeze for no obvious reason? I'm completely stock & un-rooted, and when this issue first came up I did a factory reset but the problem still comes up out of nowhere. Everything will be working fine and then out of nowhere they all stop updating. Here are the widgets I use:
Fancy Widget
Switch Pro
Android Pro Widgets
BattStatt Pro
I've been using these same widgets for at least three years, and over three different devices, and this has never been a problem, which makes me think it's something weird with KitKat. At this point I'm removing widgets one by one to see if I can narrow it down, but it is so f-ing frustrating because everything will be fine for a day or two and then WHAM all of my homescreen widgets just lock up and the only way to get them to update again is to reboot the device which is a pain in my ass. It's worth mentioning that even after all the widgets freeze the stock 'Weather' widget still works fine...
Help!
Nova launcher much better than touched just use that?

Thanks, I'll give it a try to see if I still have the issue. I used to run LauncherPro back in the day - even paid for the plus version - but then the dev promptly stopped releasing updates, and I felt somewhat ripped off. . . From then on I've stayed with whatever launcher came stock on the device.
How did you manage to put widgets on lock screen?
I had it on my S4 but I couldn't find that settings in the S5.

I posted about the same issue in the Verizon GS5 forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2738912. Hopefully one of us will get an answer. My weather widgets were stopping the refresh (BeWeather and Beautiful Widgets), and I use Go Launcher and Apex. And my interval between requiring a launcher restart drops - initially its a couple days, but as time progresses, I need to reset more and more frequently.
Not sure its a KitKat specific issue - my Nexus 7 (2012) running KitKat runs all widgets fine.

So, I'm NOT the only one after all. And you have this issue even on Apex? Not good - I was hoping that would be a solution for me.
In searching around online I found the following info on another forum:
"this issue occurs because kitkat has changed the way it manages background alarms. most widgets that update frequently use "alarmmanager" to trigger each update. but in kitkat, the trigger event is intentionally delayed so that android can group processes together, saving battery life and data use. so, for all those clock and weather widgets, the developers have to write a bunch of new code for kitkat devices, so that their widgets update at the intended time."
After reading this I tested a theory and set my alarm to go off in 2 minutes. The alarm went off, and sure enough all widgets were frozen . . . I figured it must be the 'Timely Alarm Clock' app causing the issue, so I uninstalled and went back to stock alarm. This didn't work however, because two days later everything froze up again . . . I'm wondering now if it might be one of the other apps I'm using in the background, but there are so many possibilities and the issue is so intermittent. I never use 'task killers' or battery monitoring apps, so that isn't it. I could spend weeks trying to narrow it down, and it's always possible that more than one app could be causing the problem.

I can't speak for the author, but I believe he was referring to "alarms" from a programming sense. I.e. the alarm is what "wakes up" the phone to tell it to go on the internet, fine the latest weather info, and update the widget.
Widgets are working fine on my Nexus 7 (2012) that runs KitKat. I think I had a similar issue on my SGS3 when I first got it, and I posted to those forums a couple years ago, but now for the life of me I cannot remember what the solution was...it may have been to move to Apex!
Interestingly enough, the problem seems to have fixed itself. There were updates to Apex in the meantime, perhaps its that.
My friend with Go Launcher is also seeing the same impact - the issue is gone.

I hesitate to respond for fear of tempting fate . . . But since installing Nova launcher two weeks ago I haven't had a single issue with home screen widgets freezing. I am also experiencing truly great battery life now, but I'm not sure if Nova had anything to do with that since I made a number of other tweaks I'd done trying to fix the widget issue. In any case, I finally feel like my S5 is glitch free and functioning as a next-gen device should.

Hello xda !
I have recently updated my s4 gt-i9505 to android lollipop 5.0.1. Now, i am, like many others experiencing a touchwiz home issue. It will just crash when trying to place or move an icon on the home screen.
Booting in safe mode, clearing the system cache and erasing touchwiz home's data don't fix the issue. So i think/hope it is related too our device's settings/ disabled apps/ installed apps.
Has anyone managed to get rid of this issue or could people experiencing the same issue post a list of their installed and disabled apps ? I have attached my app list to this post.
Thank you,
Inse

Let me try that
Working fine here other than a few wee niggles.
SPlanner stops occasionally and I have to reload the widget on the homescreen and on a couple of occasions I've not received a notification tone when I've had a text but it's still vibrated and still had the notification message but that's only happened 3 times in the last few weeks.
I've used Titanium to freeze quite a few apps, such as the Samsung bloat-ware and most of the Google play apps.
Overall I'm happy with lollipop.
Chrome redraw and keyboard redraw many times home screen back to stock wallpaper once in 2 days auto restart..

Yeah, it is a really bad update, some people mention that a factory reset doesn't fix it, some say it does... I do still think the problem is samsung related and that they will have to fix it.
Today I called customer service people they saying the fix is coming soon but compete stable rom will take at least 2 months

Guys, i got some great news ! I have found the fix, turn off motion under motions and gestures in settings. No restart is required !
Not sure what going on, but every day now my voice input (voice to text) stops working within all the applications. You can see the microphone sort of "vibrate" as it hears the input, but it never resolves it to text. As soon as I reboot the device though, it starts working just fine. This seems to indicate to me that it's something software related? Possibly some app is causing the issue?
I am using ActionLauncher3 but again, if I reboot, it seems to work fine with that launcher. Also using Textra for messaging, but the issue is across all apps.
Not sure if it's related but when the issue occurs, when I'm in chrome and hit the "mic" icon, the voice prompt never comes up. It does come up and "seems" to be hearing me in all the other apps though. Really stumped here. Would prefer not to have to factory reset. (Note, phone isn't rooted. I'm on AT&T if that matters.)
Me too...
I have the exact same issue with my Nexus 5X. I've found you can also get it to work properly by force quitting the Google App, but it's very frustrating and annoying for voice search to suddenly stop working several times a day. For me, it usually works for a few hours, then stops again until I reboot or force quit the Google app.

I'm curious MechElec... do you happen to be using a custom launcher? I switched back to the standard google launcher after typing my original post the other day and 'so far' I'm still able to use voice input. If it doesn't crap out on my all day today, I'm going to switch back to Action Launcher 3 and see if the problem creeps up again. If it does, I might chalk it up to some issue using the custom launcher.

I am...I was using Nova launcher, but switched to Apex this morning to see if it was Nova. I'm very uninclined to switch to the stock launcher, as I very much enjoy changing themes out, and frankly: it's the reason I have this phone. I'm a very long-time iPhone user, and I generally jailbreak, but got tired of that circus (waiting for jailbreaks, update lag, etc)...and got the Nexus to go the Android route to have easy customizing.
As I said, I've narrowed my issue to the Google app itself. It's possible there's just something up with the latest update, which was last Thursday. I've sent feedback to Google, so I hope it gets fixed. Let me know if it works smoothly on the stock launcher for several days. I had it working fine for about 6 hours straight yesterday, but again it stopped working when I got up this morning. At least force quitting the app is a lot easier and faster than doing a reboot.

That's cool if you narrowed it down to the google app! I agree 100% having the custom launchers makes all the difference in awesomeness of an Android phone. It is interesting that this only just started happening so it would make sense if that app was updated last Thursday. I'm going to go back to using Action Launcher 3 now, and if the issue arises I'll try to kill google app and see how it goes myself. Thanks again

Do note that the force quite is actually going to the app info and hitting the 'Force Stop' button. Closing the card doesn't do anything. I'm just glad there's at least one other person with the same issue. I was beginning to think I had a crazy one of a kind issue.
