Is there a way to get rid of ads in Amazon version? - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

We all know that Amazon version can't be unlocked (at least now), but what about hiding amazon ads on the lock screen just like in this post?
When I tried it - I received
adb shell pm hide com.amazon.phoenix
Error: java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 2000 nor current process has android.permission.MANAGE_USERS.

Does anyone know the reason of this (amazon closed this "hole") or we need to find another approach here as this command is not for our device?

They've locked the bootloader. No way around it, but they're (Amazon) supposedly offering an option on there website to remove the ads; not sure though.

I know about bootloader. But earlier it was possible to get rid of it by simply using adb. Now it throws an error
PS can't find any amazon link for removing ads. And I do believe it can't exist as they sell this phone for Prime users 45$ cheaper than original phone. So you think they can sell the phone cheaper and allow removing ads after that?
PPS Found a workaround (not a complete removal, but no need root and unlock bootloader). Here it is. Thanks Gen4 maintainers

PS: the option to remove the ads was spending that extra $45 in order to get a device free of advertisements, though I'm sure it's too late to go that route.

Has anyone started using the method I posted earlier (using Macrodroid)? I noticed that sometimes it takes 2-3 seconds to unlock the screen (I only see immediately wallpaper and only after 2-3 seconds icons appear). is it only my issue or a common one?

Supposedly Amazon is releasing an update that removes lockscreen ads! Without having to pay

I got an email today that confirms this.

I wonder how it will be implemented

I think it's an update to the Amazon Offers app.

Here's the link to the APK that updates the amazon offers app. from XDA

Amazon released an update in the Google App Store that will remove the lockscreen ads. Mine updated today when I updated other apps. Completely gone now.

And in less than 30 days, probably the top return item - if for no other reason than the fact that all those amazon customers won't be able to load the amazon app market. Quite ironic. If not that then: it'll be the locked bootloader, no root, locked at&t marketplace, no HSUPA+, double whammy on tethering. Sheesh!

Except bootloader, rest all are ATT restrictions which are there for other phones as well. Plus there are no new ATT phones announced to be released in next 30 days. So i guess we can hope for some of those issues to be resolved as Atrix is gonno be the best phone on ATT for a while.
Is it carrier unlock?
Dunno why you wouldn't be able to load the Amazon App Market.... unless that requires rooting.... which as mentioned, is easy enough to do. Also not sure what you mean about the locked AT&T marketplace. HSUPA should be ready by the end of April according to AT&T. And.... how is there a double-whammy on tethering?

all the answers you need are in the dev forum.
The Atrix can be rooted and you can load amazon app market. The only down side of the phone is the locked bootloader which for the average user that wont matter. All that matters is root for the average user
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Actually, stock out of the box sideloading is blocked, and right now (AT&T claims to be looking for a 'fix') there is no access to the amazon marketplace. Just like there is no access to Citibank's online banking app (not in AT&T market). These impact the average user directly. No screen capture, and no backing up the phone except via 'the cloud'. More impacts to the average user. As to rooting, the only way is to use exploits that were in the original 4.1.2.6, and then play a shell game with root access when OTA upgrading to 4.1.5.7 - the exploits that allowed root access were closed in 4.1.5.7 by Motorola. Don't get me wrong, I really like the Atrix and it's capabilities; I just can't stand everything that's been done to hamstring those same capabilities. Here's another major impact to the average user - it's been locked down to 3G only speeds. Anybody want to bet that the Atrix will not get HSUPA+ before 2013, if ever? I'll admit it - I was suckered into buying this phone by the name, Atrix 4G. And it's not even a LTE phone dammit!

I understand where you are coming from, but this statement is inaccurate. Sideloading is not blocked, non-market apps (directly from the device) are. You can sideload non-market apps from your PC, you just can't sideload them from your SD card (for example).

New Bar on FireTV recommending TV Shows

Yesterday I thought my firetv auto updates as every one has been discussing on the forum as I saw a new bar on top of AFTV menu. This was the first I had seen the bar. However there was no update to the firmware and I still have my root. I've done quiet a few firetv's and none have gotten updated after setting the com amazon update to disable.
Has anyone else seen that bar. ? How does a new feature/bar appear without a firmware update?
I have it too.. well the GUI is made in HTML 5. all they would have to do is update the source page and the next time your AFTV refreshes the page, it sees there is a new one online and refreshes with that instead of the locally cached one.

Thanks for the explanation. But honestly I did get worried. I've been contemplating that probably amazon has a hidden server which it will use to update the firetv's to the latest ones as there are reports around. Hope not.

That would be nice. That add area reminds me of the add space taken up on the Roku which I detested from day one. I am thankful for having a rooted Fire TV with an XBMC launcher and finally moving away from Roku for good.
I thought I was going crazy thinking was that ad there before and it's bugging the hell out of me.
If the nexus player was available in the UK I would ditch the firetv in a heart beat now because of this.

Is there an xposed mod for this? Its annoying for sure but not a deal breaker. The firetv is superior than the nexus TV.
If you go to bestbuy and do a stock check, the firetv's are sold out but you will find abundant nexus's, appletv's, roku's.

Thanks for that, and the link....my mind is at ease now! I followed the instructions on the Blu website to find that app, and it wasn't there because I'm all BL unlocked and debloated.
Please see this article, this is pretty bad..... http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/16/us/politics/china-phones-software-security.html

and even after all that they still wont fu**in update the OS.

it wont bee in your app draw , you need to be rooted and at least install link2sd to see all the apps and remove fota* named apps and the wireless app thats written out clearly .
Go to setting/apps, scroll to bottom, wireless update. v5.4 is OK. Can't be disabled, only rolled back. Don't do that.

I didn't mean the app drawer, I was talking about the steps outline on the Blu security page linked in the OP.
I went through [settings > apps > show system] and there's no "Wireless Update" in there.
I rooted the phone to disable ads a while ago, if whatever method I used disabled OTA's, could that be the reason I don't see Wireless Update? If so, does that mean I'm in the clear?

They will be back in stock in the next 2 weeks according to a consumer reports article. Amazon pulled them all to fix the security issue, and is restocking them. They might also be a BLU R1+ version released soon(which is rumored right now). http://www.androidheadlines.com/2016/10/blu-r1-plus-hits-fcc-likely-amazon-exclusive.html
I just hope Amazon gets on BLU for not giving us the official LET band 12 update yet. Maybe Amazon will pressure Blu to get the promised Nougat update out also. we can only hope.

How to get rid of ads "special offers " on the lock screen no root no PC

Pretty sure I found a way they will work a lot of the time
Step 1. Go into the help app
Step 2 click on contact via email (they reply fast)
Step 3 click on problems with lock screen /notifications
Step 4 click on seeing notifications
Step 5 use this text in the describe the problem " I would like to disable the intrusive ads on the lockscreen at get in the way of seeing my wallpaper."
And then they will most likely disable special offers after that
Wrong. I got sick of the ads to the point I paid the $15. But what for? They don't let me uninstall the 'Special Offers' App after paying. If I had to guess, I would say they don't even turn the ads off and they just place wallpapers over the top of them. I totally had forgotten about this until I saw your post. I will be calling hem or emailing them to ask them to remove the app altogether or refund me my $15.

Why is the previous poster "wrong"? Understand you are fussed about the app remaining after paying $15 USD but most folks are simply happy to see the ads disappear even if downloads still occur in the background. To each his own - there is no "wrong" or "right".

Wow, something similar in german worked. And I got a reply within 15min at 10pm today, on a public holiday, wow
But the reply states that it is a 'one time exception from their policy' to remove the ads. As long as you only have that one device, it's ok.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience you've had with the ads on the screen of your Fire tablet.
As you requested, I have disabled Special Offers on your Fire.
Please understand that by unsubscribing, you'd have been charged $15.00 for the price difference between the device with and the device without Special Offers. *******But I made an exception and waived off the charge and unsubscribed the special offers on your Fire tablet.
Please turn wireless on, and the next time you connect your device wirelessly, it will complete the process of unsubscribing from Special Offers.
If you've further queries, please let us know so that we can help you in every possible way.

We'd appreciate your feedback. Please use the links below to tell us about your experience today.
Best regards,
My Fire 7 screen died so I got a Fire HD 8, used from Amazon direct for $51. Here is what I saved: Apparently when you unsubscribe from 'Special Offers' by paying the fee, it applies to new tablets as well. I didn't ask if they could apply the payment from my Fire 7, it was automatic. So -$15 there. Amazon technicians are either too busy or don't care. I was checking storage when I noticed it had storage on the SD card...well it doesn't come with a card. So -$15 again because I got a free card (retail about $13-15). In the end, a brand new Fire HD 8 is about $70. I pad $25 after the savings. Not bad at all.
I tried this, except I told them the ads were inappropriate. It worked and my ads were removed in just a few minutes.

I have never gotten ads on any amazon tablet I have owned that had special offers. The only tablet I have ever registered with Amazon is my old 8.9. Sometimes it made downloading the OTA easier.
So i shouldn´t register the Tablet and cancel the First Wirless Lan Access right?
I would like to install Playstore and my favorit Game and Netflix,Skygo and something more Apps.
Guys, before i make any changes, can i make a full backup for warranty that i can just go to restore Orignal Amazon FW without root or any changes
My suggestion is to ask amazon to remove them if you have the ad's. You don't need root to install the play store or apps you seem to be interested in. To make a full backup, you need to be rooted. But looking at what you want to do, just fire it up and use it. There is currently nothing preventing you from changing your mind and deciding to root. I don't like automate cause it is an application being used in the background. Many have reported that just contacting or emailing amazon has got their ads removed. Worst case is they charge you 10-15$ and credit is back from what the thread said. Check out the thread under general. If you don't register you wont have access to the amazon stuff (amazon video, amazon app store, and etc.
