I absolutely LOVE my new Mediapad M3, and I've been listening to music on it quite a bit.
However, music sounds SO much better when the device is in landscape mode.
Is there a way to always have the sound in landscape mode (even when the device is in portrait mode)?

I don't think there is a difference except that when you have the M3 in portrait position the bottom speaker is probabably blocked and the stereo sound is top down instead of left right.
No, there actually is a difference. I can tell because I place my M3 the same way on my desk everyday when I'm working. Whenever Poweramp or YouTube is in landscape mode, I can definitely hear a difference in the music (for example, the separation is better) compared to when the device is in portrait mode. It's more of a hassle than a huge problem, so I guess I'll have to find a workaround.
Finally got the OTA update to 5.0, and the sound is always in landscape now (at least it sounds that way to my ears lol).

guys i was just goin over the microphone issue threads and checking my mic, seems ics didnt bring the fix as thought,
I did find that if you dont speak from direct in front of the microphone it doesnt pick up much, then i had a idea, VERY SIMPLE ..
try the inbuilt recorder in landscape mode,
then try again with the tab in portrait mode. or some reason i noticed a large improvement, it also seemed to pickup my voice louder from further away
It's almost 2.5 years and still my beloved nexus(WiFi 32 GB) is performing brilliantly thanks to all the tips tricks and custom Roms . Currently using stock rooted 5.1 and performance seems to be good so far. The only problem I am having with my nexus is the portrait microphone. It no longer wants to hear my voice. Landscape microphone works fine though. Is there any software mod (kernel related?) which will permanently assign the landscape microphone for audio input? I know I can rotate the screen and use it but most of the time tablet is in portrait mode and it becomes annoying. Also there are certain voice calling apps which force the orientation in portrait while calling. All suggestions welcome
I have had a white Z5 Compact for a week and have now noticed that the bottom speaker is much louder than the top, ruining the stereo effect. I am sure it did not come this way out of the box. I didn't notice until after the recent firmware update (32.0.A.6.152), but cannot know whether this is the cause of the problem. I went through the hassle of factory reset and the phone still has the problem. I haven't subjected the phone to any physical trauma at all and will be returning it.
I've had 4 (seeking a good camera) and the 3 that I tested this on were all like this.
Will almost certainly be "fixed" with custom roms in future.

I have it the other way around, top speaker was soft first out of the box and after the update it seems to have fixed itself.

Weirdly, the speakers seem to be working fine now. Hope it's not a hardware issue.
Just out of curiosity, have you noticed any change with the different audio settings? Are they all off or do you have any of the DSEE HX, ClearAudio+, or Dynamic normalizer on? It may help to decide if it is hardware or software. One of the Audio settings codecs could be screwing with the volume and stereo effect.
I feel that the issue is software related. When I am on a call and switch it to Audio Output the bottom speaker is far louder than the top. I'm unsure if the top is putting out any sound at all really. But if I play a YouTube video or regular song, the stereo effect is playing equally from both top and bottom speakers. Not to mention talking on the phone normally is obviously through the top speaker and it works.
I did'nt have any of the Sony specific audio settings turned on. I ended up asking for an exchange - don't want to take the risk of it being hardware given it's international no warranty. Someone on another forum suggested perhaps I had gotten the phone wet, as that tends to muffle the speakers, but not the case - I have no intention of testing the waterproofness that Sony has backed away from

I have experienced the problem on my exchange phone, but it is intermittent. Example: listening to Google Music after taking a phone call. I suspect it's software related - a sort of "mode" bug, where the phone was in one mode and is passing from another. Similar to how auto-brightness sometimes makes black colors look washed out when waking the phone.
Annoying but I like the phone enough that I'm keeping it. I just feel that if you like a compact phone (under 5" screen) - Sony's the only Android game in town.
I have a white international with the opposite. I watch YouTube with the phone at an angle to make it sound anything like it should..

I have LON-L29 version of the phone, C636 location and I am currently using B233 firmware version. I suddenly noticed that when the phone is turned to landscape, there is no stereo effect present. When I used B225/B229 there was an obvious change of sound in stock player - when the phone went into sleep with music turned on, there was a 0,5 second pause and then the earpiece was going off. In YouTube the stereo effect could be also heard when turning the phone to landscape.
Now I am on B233 for several weeks already, and that pause and turning of the earpiece on/off when turning the phone is gone. However, the earpiece works well during calls, and when I tried to forward the media channel sound to the earpiece via SoundAbout, it also worked well. So the only thing that doesn't work is the landscape stereo mode. Is it a software bug or what? I am confused on the whole situation.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab s5e has an audio bug. It is described as follow;
When using the device, in for example landscape or portait mode, the loudspeakers should actually equal the position in which in you hold the device.
Unfortunately the following can happen.
When in landscape mode, the Tab s5e speakers can become locked as if in portrait mode. This means you will have portrait speakers even when using landscape. This means no balanced speakers, no stereo sound in landscape, since audio is mono perceived at left 2 speakers and right 2 speakers.
There however seems to be a workaround.
Workaround for now;
In situation when in landscape mode, using this tablet, make sure you have a home screen that allows rotation in all 4 possibilities.
Rotate counter clockwise, at the application that allows the speakers to follow landscape or portrait mode, keep rotating, keep rotating, until you have done
From landscape with bad unwanted loudspeaker mode, go to portrait with in portrait loudspeaker mode, keep rotating to upside down in loudspeaker mode, keep rotating, keep rotating until the speakers finally lock in landscape mode again.
This happens for example when you unlock the Tab s5e when in portrait mode, and you open the device in landscape, the speaker hardware software configuration thinks the device is in portrait mode still.
At this moment there seems to be a workaround, rotating your Samsung Galaxy Tab s5e until it connects the speakers the right position.
You will notice this when for example in landscape you have no stereo sound, which is an understatement of the problem.
Things I did? Complete factory reset, not making use of any samsung related audio enhancement for example.
This is a serious bug according to myself. Maybe you will not notice it until now, but when you have read this, you will know this bug at Android 11 exists with the Tab s5e.
I assure you that what has not been seen/heard in the speaker will bother you now you know. You have the right to have the speakers to be outputted in right position no matter portrait or landscape mode!
As a musician this really annoys me a lot.
Several times a week, I keep rotating the Samsung Galaxy Tab s5e until the speakers are in the right position again according to physical and logical position.
Debug test setup
Install audio or video player that continues to play this left-center-right speakers test even in the background
Now change applications that use different orientation, a device with 4 speakers will change audio output and left center right output to the speakers that should be correct.
