Samsung Galaxy S8+ Duos - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I bought my S8+ yesterday and found out it's the Duos variant, meaning it can accommodate 2 SIM cards. So instead of the Galaxy S8+ branding is written on the back of the device it says Duos. My OCD tingles to no end.
Anyway, is this variant (SM-G955FD) just the same S8+ variant (SM-G955F) but just have the ability to use 2 SIM cards? Same specs, same everything?
I bought my daughter an S5 Duos before and it's just not the same compared to the regular S5. It looks like a dumb-down version to me especially the screen.

I installed Samsung INFO from the Play Store and it show SM-G955F not 955FD (D for Duos, I suppose). But when I look at the phone information from the Settings app, it say 955FD. Strange.

Dubai. It seems like they're only selling that variant here. A friend of mine has the Duos variant too.

Cant comment specifically on the S8 Duos (I have an S8) but did have an S6 Duos. Everything was the same as regular S6 - Even the firmware - I flashed different stock ROMS on it a few times and just used the F moniker with no issue - Ie, because I wanted EE Wifi calling, I flashed the EVR firmware.
I imagine it will be the same with the S8 and S8+ Duos

Actually that's what I'm afraid of. If ever I wanted to mess around with my phone by installing an custom ROM if the phone updates comes very slowly for the S8, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to use a ROM that's only been tested on a SM-G955F (without D for Duos). I hope you get what I'm saying.
My friend said it's the same hardware that I don't need to be worrying about it.

hey this is strange.... i just went to my phone>about tab and see mine says Sm-G955FD (dual sim variant) but phone info app says its a G955F which is europe single sim variant. funny. ? any one can shed some light on this?

[Q] S5 buying advice

Hello
I am from India and I've been trying to purchase a Galaxy S5 from ebay. There is one available with a trusted seller with a good price but the model is S5 Duos and model number is G900FD. I know Indian versions are supposed to be G900I. So my question is this: Will the same custom ROMs for Galaxy S5 work with Galaxy S5 duos? or is there a slight change in the source files that makes it incompatible with s5 roms and leave me at the mercy of Touchwiz forever?

DID u buy the phone? id yes how is your experience with it , please share.
No they aren't compatible. You could flash the custom roms but you won't have network signal after. Though there are a number of custom roms for the dual aim variant if you want.

Hello, If you dislike touchwiz you can still install a alternative launcher. I did not try on the GS5 but I had a GS3 before and I succefully replace touchwiz by Apex launcher. Once the alternate launcher is started you can still kill samsung one.
Has anyone bought this, I wanted to know the performance and battery backup

I ended buying G900F the European version, even though I'm in India. The phone performance is fine, benchmarks as per reviews. And it came with Lollipop which added some features that they havent advertised before such as 4K video recording. Getting regular OTA once per 1-2 months on average. Can't say anything about the dual sim version because I didnt buy it...

From where did you buy it, I am also looking good this one only bit since it is not available thinking to get the dual SIM
Also what is the battery backup you get on lollipop...

Was hard to obtain actually. Got it from ebay finally but its a version without warranty becuase technically its smuggled. As for battery backup, it loses 10-20% over a day without using 3g/wifi, 40-60% over a day while using either of them. The screen is absolutely brilliant.
I am also thinking of getting it from eBay which seller did u buy it from and how's the screen on time you get with it
I am returning my G900H to flipkart and would get refund, I am thinking to either get this or Xiaomi MI4

Name printed on the back

I bought an S7 edge but the s7 edge is not printed on the back, do all have it printed?
Most reviews I've seen have it, just wondering.
Mine only has the Samsung name printed, but no model printed, it does have however the small imprints of imei, actually 2 imei's due to the fact is a duos, designed by Samsung and made in Vietnam etc.
Howdi... I also don't have this... Voda UK model...
So you're not on your own
I have all printed bought in India

Mine also not printed - From South Africa - SM-G935F
And did you know, if you got a red phone, they go faster.
The international version (exynos) doesn't have it. This has been like this since the first Galaxy phone, US models had the "Galaxy S blabla" on the back but international versions not. It's not that they forgot printing it.
I like it without so no problem for me.

Yeah, what he said. Apparently International versions only come branded with the Samsung logo.

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

Hello ppl !
I live in Greece and a friend of mine is coming from the U.S and i want him to bring me the S7 Edge..What do i have to know about buying a phone from another country? Will it work over here?
Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
And the S7 are region-locked. The phones bought in the USA must be "unlocked" by using them with an US sim card for a few minutes. I bought my phone in Europe and it was locked the same way, it would have only worked with europeean sim cards for its first use.
I advise u to buy it in Europe so you can get the international version with exynos 8890 : You'll have much less problems with the exynos version

Getting the 7 Edge

Hello guys i just ordered the 7 edge from amazon, i'm in europe so i guess i'll be getting the exynos version, i was wondering, are the roms the same for both SD and Exynos? or are there roms that only work in sd or exynos? I tried to search but seems that both are 935F instead of my S5 (900f for Snapdragon and 900h for exynos).
One more question, will my warranty be voided if i unlock bootloader? I read a lot of stuff that amazon won't care and that they don't even check it.
And finally, i'm pretty excited, i come from a OnePlus 3, while i liked it for it's fluidity and speed, i had some troubles with it's screen and i need a solid phone since i'm going to a cold country (s7 is nice for the water proof and humidity), i got it for 570€ new, so i guess it was a good deal (32gb version ofc)
Thanks
Hi,
Yes there are different ROMs for different processors, some ROMs may support both Exynos and Snapdragon, however don't take that for granted. I'm not following S7/E development, but back in S4 days the Snapdragon version had more ROMs than the Exynos version.
The 935F model number is the international Exynos S7 Edge, AFAIK the unlocked S7 Edge with Snapdragon variant has 935U as model number.
All the best,
~Lord

Which Samsung S5 Model is the best to buy?

Recently i wanted to buy a S5 second hand or refurbished. But wasn't sure which model was the best to buy.
Also which model of the S5 has the most XDA Developer Support right now?
That's hard to answer. I'll make a note so short summary of all the S5 for you, so you can choose one instead
Start with the ordinary Galaxy S5 model (G900F). The most popular variant, with tons of development support, has the standard SD801 and 2GB RAM. Do note that, since the G900F itself has many carrier variant, you might want to avoid the Verizon/AT&T model (G900V/A), due to locked bootloader. Any other variant falls under the klte category will be fine. Also get the FD model if you want dual SIM support. Fun fact: Sprint has an all blue variant (not just blue cover with black front)
Next is the Exynos model (G900H). Only released in Asian countries, this variant had a lot of potential, if it wasn't for the lack of LTE (which makes it the #1 contender for the worst S5 ever) Development is surprisingly good for an Exynos phone, probably only behind the international S3. Also has a dual SIM variant.
Also available is the S5 Broadband LTE-A aka G906S/K/L (whoever named it like this must be drunk) which is the S5 everyone dreamt for. Quad HD screen, Snapdragon 805, 3GB RAM LTE-A support, blah blah blah. Even the Sony IMX240 sensor, the same one on the Note 5 is here too (don't expect picture quality to be the same though due to different aperture and software and whatnot) Only released in Korea through Koreans' Big Three Carrier thought (no, not your Korea, GTFO Kim Jong-Un). Which is the reason why development sucks big time (since it is some of the rarest S5 available), only behind the S5 Sport/Active model. Without @cvxda and @bjnmonkey77, this device would've been on the same club as the LG V10. Rest in peace.
*Also, Samsung did release another LTE-A (called LTE+) capable variant of the S5 in Singapore and Europe. This one only has the SD805 though, everything else is the same as the klte variant. Development is a bit better, but not much.*
Can't forget the Neo model though. Basically the refreshed S5 without the water flap (yay!), better selfie camera, a new front camera and the brand new (for the era) Exynos 7580. Although lacking the removable battery and the development support of the klte S5 (boo!), the newer TouchWiz UI and a planned Nougat update more than makes up for it. Even if Samsung says "**** you" the device, porting Nougat from the A5 2016 should be easy, since both has the same Exynos SoC.
Last is the S5 Active/Sport model. The Active is exclusive to AT&T, while the Sport is Sprint's answer to AT&T's Active (the irony). Both are some of the hardest-hitting S5 available, while are also even rarer than the LTE-A variant. Development is pretty much non-existent, not even sure whether root is available or notz can't check sorry
I guess that's it lol. What a long answer (silly me). Sorry if you find it confusing, since my S5 only have like 3% left, and it was 11PM here. And enjoy I guess. XD.
Also XDA, swap your font plox. Looks like it's from 2010 ;;

Woah. Didn't expect such a long anwser tbh. So the G900F is the best one to get for development support. Thanks. I will check if it is a carrier variant or internation. Can't really get the G900H, im in UK.
I knew the S5 had a lot of models but didn't it had this many tbh.
It's Samsung dude. Also glad to help you ^^

Weird question. What's the best S5 ever?
The following parameters are needed for the answer:
- in which network you're going to use it,
- if you really need LTE,
- if you really need root,
- how much money you're going to spend.
Generally, "F" variant is the best for UK because it supports B3, B7, B20 LTE bands, but it's the most expensive. I'd say, 3-5 times more expensive than "V", for example.

G900F variant supposes unlocked bootloader.
Vodafone version may mean a branded firmware (can be replaced with unbranded for the same variant) and network lock, probably.
Root should definitely be possible.

S5 Mini or S5 Neo
Hi,
I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S (yes no trailing number)!!!!
I am looking to replace it with either a Galaxy S5 Mini or a Galaxy S5 Neo, I'm not really sure which one to go for and I hope someone here can give me some advice as to which one is the best phone, from a reliability / performance / ease of use / battery life perspective.
Thanks in advance!!!
