This is my first Galaxy phone since the S2 (been with Nexus). I setup the scanner but it doesn't seem to unlock the phone or do anything when i try to touch it. Call me crazy but can't you just pick up the phone when its off(black screen) and touch scanner to open to home page? Seems odd that you would have to use power button to turn on display then unlock every time??
Thats how it works with the 6p, touch the scanner and you're off and running.

That sound you need to return phone for exchange
I've found that you have to be much more accurate with finger placement compared to the 6p. I think it's due to the size & shape of the scanner. It seems to want to learn a smaller area of your finger. The learning process for prints seems clunkier too. Try clearing and relearning your prints
i have the same problem. even cleared it and redid it but still doesnt work. is it a defect? maybe i need to exchange.

Yes. If I leave the phone alone for a while then try to use fingerprint it works. So you have to wait until the phone is ready for it (certain amount of time) instead of just using fingerprint whenever you want to unlock?

Strange. I can lock the phone with the power button and immediately unlock with my fingerprint.

Interesting. Maybe I have some other setting enabled. Are you using other unlocking methods like Iris etc or just fingerprint alone?

do you have it set to lock immediately when screen timeout or power button is pressed?
Works fine for me. Instantly unlocks once my finger is placed on the scanner.
Tried immediately after clicking the power button to lock and when the device is in deep sleep.

Just fingerprint. I wasn't crazy about the iris scanner since I had to lift the phone and line up my eyes.

I had it set to 5 seconds, but I changed it to immediately. Same result either way. Fingerprint unlocks right away.

Hi guys,
Got my Desire HD last Friday and I'm really pleased with it, stunning device. The problem is, I'm using a case which protects the phone nicely and looks decent too but the power button is very tough to press in (let alone without a case TBH). I have Cyangens "Menu Unlock" enabled but I'm wondering if there is a tweak or APK to enable the capacitive buttons when the screen is off so I can turn it on easily (using Button Remapper). Maybe even a shake to enable app to wake the phone. Oh, cover below:
When I had the Galaxy S, I could just wake the screen with the main physical Home button.
When I had the Milestone, there was an APK to allow me to wake the screen with the buttons.
Any help or direction would really be appreciated. Would love to be able to unlock it that easily.
Cheers #auggie2k

Buttons will be disabled when phone is asleep. The closest is to try "Tap Tap App" from the Market. Its free. Try and see how it could give you possibilities. Basically, it will allow you to set lock/wake permissions using the proximity sensor.
I use it as an alternative to pressing the power button all the time during shorter phone sleep/wake intervals
Much appreciated Jacob, cheers for the quick reply.
You can try WidgetLocker too, allow you to power up the phone using volume button.

Its possible without much battery drain I remember using Pocketshield with the HD2 where it unlocks when you flip the phone facedown and up or shake from side to side. Seems they're still hung up on Windows till now... I hope they come around to turn to Android soon

You're welcome mate! Test the proximity settings, I used to use "Easy Detection" but found it too sensitive, it unlocks with short finger waves which was cool but also gets screwed up with strong winds when outdoors... lol
Since, I've changed the setting to "safe mode (default)" and it responds well to 2 mild taps. Hope it works for you too!

Mines doing that as well. If I wait maybe like 3 seconds or so and press the unlock button, then it's okay. But this isn't that much of a repetitive issue for me. It's just random.

Lockscreen: "You wont like it when i am angry" - Quoted from................. Incredible hulk.....
Actually you can set the delay time with ICS now. It's located in Settings --> Security --> Lock automatically. I set mine to 30 seconds...
Otherwise: No problems whatsoever here...
Something strange happened to mine on Friday, I wasn't able to reproduce.
Basically when I turned on the screen I got the lock screen, pressing power again I went straight to home screen, pressing it again went back in lock etc. Weird!
I disabled it in security and re-enabled it and it seemed to have disappeared.
Any fix. For the lock screen issue guys
I was wondering thoughts on this I have the phone and have noticed that I am still hitting the power button to double tap the notification to unlock the phone directly to the app (smart lock and on body/trusted place enabled) and not using the fingerprint sensor because it just unlocks phone. (To the home screen or last app left open). Don't get me wrong the fingerprint sensor is amazing.
When you double tap the notification, you can use the fingerprint scanner instead of putting you pattern or pin in, even though it doesn't look like you have that option.

That's good to know thanks, but you still have to hit the power button if you have ambient display off.
I have a smart watch so smart unlock is always there. The problem is smart unlock goes into lock screen but finger print goes into home screen directly. I'm not sure if it's intentional to make more people use fingerprint.
I stopped using smartlock because of nexus imprint. Smart lock is kind of hit or miss anyways (at least on the original nexus 5) and nexus imprint is much more accurate and reliable.
Also, of your phone is lost or stolen, a criminal wont be able to unlock it by going to a trusted location or connecting to a trusted WiFi/Bluetooth source.

Wait this thing has a power button? Lol I've have barely used the power button since I set up imprint on day 1
It just works so flawlessly (unless my finger is wet/moist) I pick up the phone and my natural finger position lands and bam it's like my phone was never in sleep mode. I ended up only setting up smart voice for the ok google function and disabled face unlock and on body detection, I never used trusted location, WiFi or Bluetooth to paranoid about losing my phone
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
EDIT: dkotoric has realised this is due to using the double tap to sleep function on some launchers. Locking your device with that prevents the fingerprint scanner from allowing access for some reason.
So today was my first full day with the 6P. It's a truly great device.
A whole bunch of times though when I've come to unlock the device I've had to put in my pattern because it won't accept the fingerprint scanner.
The icon at the bottom of the lock screen that should be a fingerprint is just a lock symbol. If I then lock the phone again and reunlock it works as expected.
Not sure if this is a software bug or some setting I've got wrong. Can't see a pattern for when it does it though. I've switched 'require pattern on restart' off which has made no difference.

I've experienced that on one occasion today. That was after no occurrence in a full day's use yesterday. I put it down to slightly incorrect/incomplete/inaccurate finger print scans when it's set up.
Had no issues yet, used it for 2 days.
I have a pin set for after a reboot and it will ask for pin if I accidentally use pthe power button to switch on.
So far my finger print has not failed once o. My two index fingers.
I set up my finger print with a central / top end / bottom end / left edge / right edge and its worked fine
Been super accurate for me
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
I recommend using your main finger on different angles rather than using 5 different fingers when setting it up. ?
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
I've setup each index finger once and it hasn't skippes a beat. I'd setup your finger again and this time move your finger around after every press to get different angles.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
I haven't had any issues whatsoever. You could setup each index finger as 2-3 different fingers if you want to improve accuracy too.
Still waiting on my 6P, but I do have the 5X. Installed all of my usual apps when I received the phone. Set up fingerprint scanner. For the life of me couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. Every time I would unlock the phone it would go to PIN screen. I had read all of the reviews on how fantastic the FPS was. Started to get really annoyed. In fact I did a factory reset to see if this would help. This time I didnt install apps just set up FPS. Worked flawlessly. Installed apps again and what do you know stopped working again. Then it hit me, I have an app called ScreenOFF. Basically I could touch the screen and it would turn the screen off without hitting the power button. Uninstalled app and FPS worked perfectly. SO, be careful if you have any of these types of app as it seems it screws up the ability to bypass lock screen
It seems to have sorted itself over night. Hasn't done it so far today. Thanks guys.

what I notice is I use lock app and apex launcher so I have it set up to double tap on screen to lock the device. If I lock the device using this method I can no longer unlock the device with my fingerprint. I have to use the lock pattern. Then I have to lock the phone again via power button in order to use fingerprint scanner?

I have your issue but I am not using any sort of double tap to lock apps. also I am using google now launcher.
Yea this happens when you use a third party app or launcher to lock the device via a double tap on the home screen. I set up a gesture in Nova Launcher to lock the device via a double tap on the homescreen and when I do I cannot unlock the phone via Imprint. There is just a lock symbol instead of the Imprint symbol and the only way to unlock it is using the pin. It seems that right now the only way to use Imprint to unlock the device is when you lock the device using the power/sleep button. Using any 3rd party software without root access to lock the device will only let you unlock the device via the pin instead of Imprint.
EDIT: Everything works fine with root access. If you grant the app performing the screen lock root access then you will be able to lock the screen with say a gesture like double tapping the home screen and then you will still be able to unlock the device via Imprint.
I had this issue as well where my 6P would ask for my pin after using the fingerprint scanner. It would do this many times per day.
What I have found to stop this from happening is removing the administrator rights from all the apps that uses it to lock the screen. It seems that the phone will ask for a pin when a 3rd party app locks the screen.
So I'll just rely on Android locking the screen on its own vs entering the pin so many times a day along with the fingerprint scanner.

I'm actually using loads of root apps including Greenify. (Though I'm not using greenify anymore) Everything is working fine. Are you having the issue when locking via a greenify gesture? I didn't even know Greenify had a screen locking gesture lol. Or do you mean the Imprint issue occurs after Greenify puts the device to sleep automatically?

Greenify has a widget that will hibernate and shut the screen off. I ended up finding this app that will shut the screen off and allow me to use the fingerprint to wake/unlock the device. :good:
So far, the only 3rd party app that I've found that can shut the screen off without root and without needing the pin again is Gravity Screen https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree&hl=en
It has a few widgets that you can link your double tap homescreen gesture to. Specifically, I'm using Lightning Launcher and link the double tap to the "Off" shortcut. The other shortcuts will lock the phone and then you'll need the pin again instead of just the fingerprint.
However, I think the way this app accomplishes this is to first blank the screen off with just a black overlay and then set the screen timeout to around 10seconds (it sets it right back to whatever you had before by the time you wake the screen again). So far, I haven't had a problem with this since the app also has "in pocket protection" in which it will keep the screen from turning back on if the proximity sensor is covered. So if you double tap to sleep but then put it in your pocket before the 10 seconds is up, it won't turn it back on. If you have it sitting on your desk, you can double tap to sleep, but then tap again on the black screen within the first 10 seconds to see the navigation keys again. This also has the weird side effect of not being able to use the fingerprint reader during those 10 seconds, because technically the screen is still on. This was a little unsettling at first since I couldn't figure out why the fingerprint reader wasn't vibrating when I thought the screen was "off". To me, it's not that big of a deal so it's fine with me.

You must also have a pin or password, fingerprint cannot be set alone..
Turn off double tap to wake, turn off any gestures which may wake the phone from movement, it's possible that the phone is sensing your skin through your pocket.
It'll be one or the other. My money is on double tap to wake.

Obviously it can't be set-up alone bro... Also, I doubt it is because my phone is touching my skin. It doesn't turn on randomly when it is in a tight pocket. I also don't have any gestures that turn only the lockscreen on. I keep double tap to wake off. I only have double tap to lock using an app called button remapper.

You're not helping much, to be honest. I already said that it isn't because it is touching my skin. If that was the case, it wouldn't be turning on in my jacket pocket when unzipped. I already mentioned that none of those are the cause.
