I installed AdGuard and Android system notification about VPN is always on. Does anyone have an idea how to get rid of it? Pixel was able to stop the notification, but not this phone...
long hard press on the notification -> block notifications from that app
That does not work, because it is an Android system notification and for some reason Samsung won't let me turn it off
No luck on that. reason why i dont use any vpn like adguad and block this ( or.wherever is call) u WILL NOT be able to get rid of notification. I tried this since the gs6, note 5 gs7 edge and now gs8. Root or use nova and hide status bar at least u wont see the notification on top. My solution get disconnect pro or adhell which work in a different way blockong ad with knox. U wont get ad in browser like chrome also no ad in apps. Best part, no notification icon anywhere. I like disconnect pro better but is to expensive. Do a google search and u can get it f. R. E. E. See how it works. Then delete it and purchase it to support the developer.

Thanks - trying adhell for now (as it's free and open source) and seems to be working well.
@ddesnson Adhell does not work on https. Try a google search in a browser, and you will see ads.

I tried it, but no ads. Also logged into xda on https and no ads
When I enable Adhell, open a browser (Chrome) and perform a google search e.g "bicycle" , I get Google ads in result.

Me too - they blend in so well I never noticed. I'll keep an eye on the price of Disconnect Pro and try it if there's another sale, but for now Adhell does most of what I need it to do.
With Adguard there are no Google ads and other ads on https-pages, so I will stay with Adguard.

Is Disconnect Pro not also working through VPN?

Hi
Am using Adaway to get rid of the annoying Ads but there's some App keep showing them. I used Adfree before with the same problem. Is there anyway to completely get rid of these ads?
Thanks ?

Not helpful info but I will say I just uninstalled my add blocker yesterday because it was unreliable and also blocked legitimate web surfing from time to time. Along with taking up space in my notification panel and status bar I just got annoyed with it.
Ran it for 3 months might give it another shot in a year.

So if you are rooted (I guess so), have you tried firewall? At least for apps you think they don't need internet connection --> without connection adds are gone + you are more secure. (Since no data can be uploaded from your phone by those apps)

if you knew the url of the adserver, you can simply add it to your hosts file.
in adaway, tap the menu key and chose "your lists" (may not be accurate as i have the german version).
add the hostname(s) to the blacklist by tapping the + symbol at the upper right.
to get the adress of the adserver, any app that can capture your network traffic should do it.
i´m using the app "network connections".
some apps may refuse to work after adds being blocked.
maybe sometimes it is just not possible to get rid of them
if you want me to test anything, just name your app.
I had the same problem with AdAway, so I assumed that perhaps my version of AdAway was not the latest and therefore the blacklist downloaded was not up-to-date. So, after running the in-app update option, then downloading and appending the latest hosts file, I was able to finally get rid of the few ads that were still getting through, namely in the 1Weather app. Again, you might have already done this, but if your AdAway app is the same version as the one I am running, then it should be able to block out all the current ad servers no problem.
Hey guys i almost got mad with AdAway as it didnt block a single hot woman wanting to chat with me
i tried so much and found out that the "save bandwith" option would disable adblocking functions through host files, because all traffic is going to google servers, compressed and sent to my device...
Just disable it and u wont see a single ad in chrome any more.

Didn't find anything search wise about this....but since updating manually, adaway doesn't work. It would always be 3/4 done and never reboot my phone. I'm sure it's because the last update for adaway was like Feb 2014. Chrome shows ads, which is frustrating to me because ads affect webpages loading and finishing!
Tried adblock plus, but that too isn't stopping Chrome from showing ads (and the notification bar was annoying, but I know how to turn it off...)
Any suggestions? Right now I'm camped in Firefox Beta until I can get a suitable way of blocking ads...

Do you have reduce data usage on in chrome under bandwidth settings? That feature sends all traffic through Google's servers and would bypass any ad block software you used. Adaway works fine for me on 4.4 with chrome.

I did set that up...
I'll turn it off and see what happens
Works!!!!
Whew....because ads are sometimes the worst. I hate flashing things in my face or the auto play types
I have disabled many of the built in apps from my S4 but the following ones are still in my App drawer although they are disabled.
S Planner
Music
Optical Reader
Help
Voice Recorder
Calculator
Samsung Hub
Voice Search
Kids Mode
Can I get rid of these icons?
Rob
Do they work if you want to open them? If so, they are not disabled.
They should disappear after a restart of the launcher.
Otherwise, just hide them.
Yes they still work, although disabled is selected and greyed out. Is there no way to properly disable these or remove them?
Rob
Yes there is a way. You can root your device easily with help on this forum or another thread (search for: how to root device Samsung galaxy s4 i guess? , so you can uninstall the bloatware apps with the app Root Uninstaller from the Playstore. If you are not familiar with this way to remove system Google Apps, than don't try it. It can mess up your Device very bad. But it's worth a try. Just learn and follow the instructions very good with a little help. That's all i can say from my experience which is very positive:good:

A grayed out "disable" means it cannot be disabled.
If an app was disabled, the "disable" option gets replaced by "enable".
Disabled apps aren't supposed to work either, so obviously your apps weren't disabled.
Anyone know of a good popup blocker for browsers?
Mainly Chrome or S' Internet?
I don't the really mind the ads, I kinda get it.
But the pop ups are so intrusive, if it just pop outs once sure that's fine. But if it's happening everytime or every page reload/change, that's different.
Just disable popups in:
settings>advanced settings>popups: never show

Doesn't work against intrusive ones.
Woudn't have asked if it does.

Is it from playstore? Or a plugin/externsion?
There's so many "adblock" apps out there, care to share a link.
Don't mind if I have to pay, but want to pay for the right one that actually works.
Samsung Internet will offer you a list of available content blockers if you click in its menu. Try Adblock fast and or Disconnect
Adguard from the same list works well

Also recommend adguard.
Tale care.
I use adguard for rooted/UnRooted & it blocks ads system wide (apps, games, & browser ads) but requires a small yearly subscription. If your using & only wish to have blocking in Samsung native browser I'd recommend adguard content blocker as the others did. In Samsung browser I believe that you can use up to 5 blockers at once, depends on what & how much you want to block. Happy surfing ?
Blokada
Download F-Droid, install Blokada.

It's not really the ads I'm annoyed about if they're not that intrusive it's fine but the annoying popups are a different story.
But I'll try Adguard. I'm using adblock browser recommended a few post back for the sites I goto that has ridiculous pop ups.

AdGuard pro (paid) will block popups, ads, trackers, offers multiple DNS servers (I use encypted adguard dns) and you can choose app you want to use it with and without. If you can spend around $15 for the 1 year subscription you won't be disappointed but if you find something else (maybe free) more power to ya, whatever gets the job done friend.
Cheers.
Congratulations You Won Ads
I am looking for a pop up browser to block the "Samsung Galaxy Note 9 User You Are A Winner" ads. Does anyone have any suggestions I am using Adblock fast right now but they still pop up. Is there a way to block or remove these ads?
