Got one of these off craigslist. There appears to be a pin lock after it came up. How do I remove this? I'm aware there might be Google lock too. But i don't mind that.
You mean the type of pin lock that's intended to prevent the use of a phone which is stolen and then subsequently sold via a cesspool like craigslist? Contact the seller. Good luck.

factory reset in recovery, should take care of the pin lock
Google lock is pretty complicated, if even possible

Thank you. Was able to get into the tricky recovery. Formated and yes there is Google lock. I have unlocked Google locks my self on 5.1.1 and 6.0.1 in over 10 devices in the past, but this one is proving to be the hardest. I can't get into settings>storage or access the Google email app.
Is it possible for me to go back to android 6.0.1 on this device?

You have needed to bypass the security of 10 phones? Sounds like you steal or have purchased a lot of stolen phones. It's good to know that FRP is working so well on this one. If anything, that is one fantastic reason not to unlock the bootloader (if it were an option).
I see your home country is Nigeria. You don't happen to be a prince looking to transfer large amounts of money out of the country? I know people that are interested in your scam. Hold on while I find the email to the FBI's scam department...

WOW! haha.. this guy. Definitely up to no good for sure.
Is it possible to bypass screen lock? Just out of curiosity as I put a lot of faith in the security of my z force screen lock. Also what is a Google lock?! Surely if it has FDE then the phone would just factory reset when incorrect password has been inputted right?

I dont know about bypassing screen lock. But one i had a screen lock, i did factory reset in recovery and pin lock went away. had to battle frp lock for some days. but now its unlocked.
frp is google lock. it requires you to enter your gmail and password after phone was factory reset.

I just did a Google frp bypass this evening. Tried multiple programs. Not sure which one finally got it right. Glad I did, payed $50 for it. Think I got a good deal.

Whatever you do, don't use a pattern to unlock, my friend was messing around trying to guess it, i didn't mind because i know my username and password, however it doesn't even let me attempt it, it just says its invalid the second i enter it.
Now i have to hard reset.
I also found out this has been a problem with android for 2 years !

After 5 attempts, it just asks you to put in your gmail password.

This i am aware of, But stupid thing is it will always say that its invalid, so i googled it because i thought i was going insane and it turns out the problem is wise spread with no other fix than a hard reset,

When I got my N1 I deliberately checked what happened if you got the unlock wrong, after a few attempts it locks for 30 seconds, after several more it offers to let you login by google username/password instead, but you can still log in with the swipe pattern if you know it. I have let people try to use the swipe pattern when they've said "that's easy I know your pattern" and they've never unlocked it, and never forced me to hard reset either ...
This is and has been a standing problem for all android devices... so far there are a few work arounds for older devices, but I don't know about the N1.
I've had this occur and I had to hard reset as a result.
Here's an issue page: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4784
i was able to fix this on my droid.
pm me for a link, or gmail me (probably quicker)

I don't know if anyone is going to believe this. I decided to test Android Device Manager's lock feature. Worked fine on my tablet. Did not work right on my phone. Now I am locked out of my phone. It would not accept the PIN I selected. I tried sending different PINs and it won't accept any of them! When I change the "message," it does change but the PIN doesn't work.
1) Is there any way to fix this???
2) If not, ugh, if I send an ERASE command, will I be able to get back into the phone?
Help!!
Thanks!
Paul
(I don't know how to prove this isn't a stolen phone - I have full access to it via Device Manager in my google account)
Talked to AT&T. I was screwed. FYI for anyone else... The Android Device Manager Lock may not work right on the AT&T Galaxy S4.
The entire point of locking a phone through ADM is to render it useless for anyone that has stolen it or "found and tried to use it" if it was lost. It's not intended as a tool to be used day to day or for any other reason than loss or theft. As such, I don't see why there would be a need to re-activate the phone after locking it through ADM.
However, if it simply won't let you unlock the lock screen, why not use ODIN to re-flash the firmware and start fresh with an unlocked lock screen?

I should have posted more details. Actually, you can factory reset the phone and it comes out of it fine, albeit factory reset. It doesn't make the phone useless. It just protects the data on your phone with the standard PIN lock screen. It's certainly no kill switch.
To add more info to this - it literally changes the lock screen setting to PIN lock. So, for example, on my tablet, I had a pattern lock. Even after I unlocked it with the ADM PIN I sent, the next time it locked, it was the same PIN lock. I had to go back and change it to the pattern lock.
This is unlike the 3rd party solutions I have used in the past (e.g. Lookout, AVG) which overlay their own lock onto the phone one time only. Once you unlock through their PIN system, the device reverts to whatever locking method you had been using (or none).
This is just what I learned from the experience. Maybe people knew this but it was interesting to me.

Thanks for the additional info. It's nice to know how it works or is supposed to work. Starting mid-2014, all cell phones sold in the US will be required to have a "kill switch" available. I wonder if it will operate in the same way. I guess time will tell. Again, thanks for the info.
I do wish people who don't read a persons message properly and are not informed on the subject wouldn't waste every ones time posting their drivel aye Scott!
You like so many others state the obvious, I did like your post Paul and thank you for taking the time to post
I have had issues with ADM and have found the application about as useful as Scott's drivel
Anything I can do with this phone? Found it in the bay last friday, it's pattern locked and doesn't seem to take phone calls or allow me to contact anyone to retrieve..
Would I be able to install a custom rom or something to actually utilize this phone, does it need to be like IOS jailbroken first also?

Needs factory reset and Samsung frp lock removed. Att and Verizon can block signal to most phones that have been reported lost - stolen .

ty, possible to use to watch movies on, if I ever get frp lock removed? I only see services that I have to pay for, I'll probably just leave it on shelf or something for now.
If you do get FRP removed, you will be able to use the phone like normal again.
If the Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile or Sprint blacklist the phone, a SIM card will never work in it again. But it will still function like normal but with no SIM in it. WiFi device only.
Thanks, after hours of searching for a solution, it would appear I can't remove FRP by any means that I've found online.. So seems I found a 700$ brick lol.

Hi,
So today I changed the pin for my mom's phone and the completely forgot it.
She has a lot of Photos on the phone that she wants to keep, but she has not turned on the backup to google photos option
Is there a way to unlock the phone or recover the photos ?
I have entered the wrong pin multiple times and I still cant see the forgot password option.
Pls help or else mom will kill me.
I hope there is no solution because it would be big security problem.
Your mother maybe using google photos cloud so dont be worry
This poses a security risk for those who lost their phones, so I hope there's no easy way around it.
RIP OP
I also hope there isn't a remedy. I don't mean to sound negative and not help but look at it from our side.
I once had a phone that needed a pin to unlock after being fully booted. Was able to go into recovery without it though.
But on 6t I think the pin encrypts the partition, so no way of bypassing it.
[irony] Maybe tell some intelligence agency that there is terrorist evidence on the phone, see if they have a "special key". [/irony]

I agree.
Can you not plug in your USB cable and copy the contents off the phone onto your laptop?

Not without unlocking and enabling USB transfer
Just to be sure, it is the pin for the phone and not the simcard right?

Get your plot ready then.
You have to format data.
Hopefully you can remember the password or pin.
There is far to many security measures in place
you could by having USB debugging on don't know if it's against rules to tell you or just have them email you don't they still email the password to email reg. on phone
There is simply NO way to access the contents without the encryption key. No app from google that claims it can, not google, not even the NSA or anyone but the key holder can. Trust me, you messed up and there is no other way but to remember what it was or completedly reset the phone. After you reset you will be asked password for the account that was last used there. not worth even trying mate.
I wouldnt normally try to help in a situation regarding security but check out this link: Bypass lock screen PIN all One Plus Devices! Might help!
Good luck and let us know how it turns out :highfive:
That worked for me! Thanks so much!

Not really for 6T. File Based Encryption that's used by OnePlus doesn't help here either. There may be a way for OnePlus 6 tho since it uses a different key to sign its boot image.
It may be possible to change current password by using Google Find My Device (https://www.google.com/android/find), but i haven't used it for a long time so i'm not sure at this point.
Honestly I want to understand how to protect phone from someone who get my phone to factory reset and setup with his own account. What is best way to setup and protect phone from this happening?
I know if you want to reset you have to receive email from samsung one time verification, which is linked to my google account. So for that moment if you want to reset go to email verify and it will reset. This is so stupid. Maybe I'm doing wrong with this? I'm using email on phone so how to protect this?

so, if your phone has a lock screen on it and someone ends up with it and is wanting to use it for themselves or sell it or whatever, so they want to factory reset it, the phone has a FRP (factory reset protection) built in to it. There are ways around it to get the phone to boot which i wont get into, but i will say that it requires wiping all user data from the phone first, so the most valuable asset about the phone, your data, is secure as bone stock
But how to protect phone from FRP in wrong hands?

YOU CAN NOT!!!!!
I know it's scary, but even the infamous APPLE security can be bypassed!!
If a person with the time or skills gets a phone, they can reset, unlock and use the phone, or sell it....
And if the data you have is not encrypted they can have access to all that before the reset if they want.
It's like asking, How do you stop a professional car thief..... The manufactures will keep trying but the crooks will keep learning....
Hell, even reporting it STOLEN does nothing. A lot of people have the information needed to change the numbers it uses to register on networks...
