Question re: smart switch and apps - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Is it better to utilize smart switch to transfer apps from my s7e or just go to play store and download on s8? Thanks.

[Q] Smart Switch from S3 to S4 - App Settings & Icons

So, I installed Samsung's Smart Switch app on my old S3 and my new S4, then held the two phones together. NFC was used to setup a wifi direct connection, and then Smart Switch transferred photos, videos, messages (txt/mms), and a few other things... but, Samsung seems to ignored two of the most painful parts of getting a new phone: app settings and icon placement.
Anyone who has had an Android phone for more than a few months likely has more than 100 apps installed, each has been configured (login, settings, saved games, etc) and icons have been moved to your desired location on the home screen. Getting a new Android phone means you have to manually do all of this again...
Did I have too high of hopes for Smart Switch or did I miss something during the transfer?
Are there any other options for this that do not require rooting the phone?

I doubt any app or method would allow you to copy/replicate your app placement.
For app data, Titanium Backup is the best but you require root for that.
If you don't wanna root, you could try this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=en
You will need a pc, but it can restore apps as well as app data across devices without root. A word of caution though, don't restore samsung apps/app data as it may clash with newer versions of the apps on the S4. Use it only for other third party apps you may have installed.
Awesome! I'll give Carbon a try.

the bolded and underlined can actually be UNINSTALLED
For ANT programs, why only freeze not delete?
Apps
It would be cool to have description to all of those...to know what exactly I am freezing/uninstalling

Ant Radio and plugins can be reinstalled in Google Play, they are free apps to download. I agree, definitely remove if not needed, but why say no to an FM radio!
Tapatalk Classic
Thanks for the list Joe. I'm going to have to go through this and make sure I've got all of the bloatware turned off.

Root isn't necessary to freeze/disable apps (freeze and disable are the same commands)
This link here http://galaxys5guide.com/samsung-galaxy-s5-how-to-guides/turn-off-my-magazine-on-galaxy-s5/ explains how to disable the Magazine app from the Applications Settings menu in the phone and this can be done for any system app on the phone.
This was a feature put in place around 4.3(?) because system apps could not be uninstalled without root; only updates could be uninstalled. So they added a disable feature to keep it from running in the background and it removed it from your App Drawer.

Being unrooted, you can only disable only certain apps , not all of them.

Taught me something I didn't know. I went through and looked at a few crucial system apps and noticed "Turn Off" was greyed out on a few of them which I hadn't noticed before.
also add
you can also add smart remote, and internet/ chrome depending on what browser you like, to this list that can be completely removed... never understood why people would remove sprint zone when it is the easiest way to do things on your account. To each their own o guess... great list too as there are a few I missed on my debloating adventures.

Exactly, I find it the best way to track my usage as well.
I guess this is a list of things that are safe to remove, but not necessarily recommend to remove

here are some more you missed
beaming service, 2 connections optimizer files, 2 enterprise files, 2 nearby device files, Samsung galaxy apps widget, Samsung keyboard, saumsung text to speech, screen mirroring, Sprint Installer, 2 wifi direct files

If you are mostly stock then you need to download sdfix from the market. It is free. Or you can change the build.prop line yourself to write to sd with a file manager of your choice. Idk the build.prop line but you can google it and it will come up. I hope that is your issue and it helps.

the ANT app is actually usefull
for those of us that like to bike/run/hoke or other physical activity in which we monitor our performance or heart rate, ANT radio is a big part of that.
http://www.thisisant.com/directory/ant-radio-service
Might want to investigate this site before removing completely as it uses hardware already on your phone, after all whats the point in getting the phone with all this stuff in it, if you just not going to use it.

Has anyone actually removed all of these without consequence to remaining functionality?

Honestly im not sure I can say without consequence. Sometime after I removed a bunch of these apps, I have had some issues with my phone. the screen blacks out while the buttons work. took it to a sprint store finally and they think its 'software related' but didnt really help beyond that.i am still investigating though as it could have been something else too potentially (but i havent really installed much on this phone to begin with outside of root).
i have rooted my GS5 and installed SuperSU and ConnectBot.
I would like to remove much of this bloatware and the automatic updating of certain apps.
I have no idea how to proceed with uninstalling, any help would be appreciated.

[Q] smart remote

Do you know smart remote , the universal remote control in the galaxy note 4
I have a galaxy note 3 and I want either to install it on mine or t find another app the same quality
Thanks in advance
It's included in a couple of Note 3 ROMs I've seen, so as long as you're on the same version of Android as those (4.4, I believe), you should be able to just pull the apk from the zip and install it. Might have to push it to /system/priv-app....
Smart Remote is a Samsung stock app.. Check Galaxy Apps.
Alternatively, I much prefer Smart IR Remote - AnyMote: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.remotefairy
The guide in WatchOn and Smart remote is entirely useless outside the US.

1. I believe it's somewhere in the phone's settings but I'm not quite sure about that
2. Android Wear app, go to the watch's preferences and there you can see the available and max storage
3. Yes, the default one gets the job done, using it myself with PowerAmp
4. Yes, but you need to download apps from the Google Play Store

Galaxy J727p removable debloating list

Putting this here in hopes of helping other J7 perx users pull the most from their battery . Thanks to Ashyx we have root on our device!! Wich makes this possible. Recovery atm is still being worked on so bootloops are no fun, figured id help everyone out, took quite the number of bootloops and several hours to come up with rebooting after every single uninstall to pin point certain apks, hopefully it is useful.
First make a backup with titanium backup!!
(The list does not rob the os of many features, but if theres something here you dont want taken out then simply look over it or restore it)
68-70 apks removed with titanium backup, lets get goin.

Do not remove dictionary.apk or device maintanance.apk, as both result in bootloops. Make sure to run the sd maid app from the playstore afterwards to clean things up!
Also feel free to adventure and add to this list!!
any news my friend about more apps that can be uninstalled?
Note of advice while debloating Stock Oreo ROM for SM-J727P
All the listed apps in here just apply fine except you have to keep in place the native Email and Message apps because if you uninstall any of those the Camera app stop working properly right away https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77722457&postcount=29

I have an Oreo debloat script in my Spacesung thread. Everything without a # sign in front of it in my script is safe to remove. Additionally, it's also safe to remove Samsung experience, the theme store, and Touchwiz launcher, if you have another launcher to replace it. You can remove google videos as well, I just forgot about it. The native Samsung video player will kick in from the gallery if you do. I prefer it myself.
For those who still rock with this warrior phone.
As of this writing and latest ROM version J727PVPU7BTH1 do not uninstall the included Chrome web browser apk as it would prevent you from signing in to the Play Store account.
