Is there a way to change the softkey icons? I don't want to switch the order, that's in the settings and there are instructions on numerous sites for that. I'd like to change the look of the buttons themselves. Any theme I've installed has the same buttons so I suspect it's either more in-depth or not possible?

I'd like to as well but I imagine I'd have to have root which won't be happening for my Verizon version. I'd love to have a non-root way, though.

Are there any tweaks to change the colour of the font displaying Missed Calls/Calendar/Date/Alarm etc on the Home Screen (or even better, to have an opaque box behind the text)?
I have some nice photos I want to use as backgrounds, but they are mostly white so I cant see any text!
Cheers,
Doc
same for me... i wanna use a more lighter background picture. But with the white letters its not really useful.
Try this free UI Tweaker
- it is a collection of 4 utilities used to customise the outlook and color scheme of the Pocket PC. This collection includes a simple theme manager and utilities to change the system colors as well as the Today color scheme.

could you please tell me if this tool works for you and your HD? I want to change my home screen font color too but i still didn`t found a way...
Thanks,
Brad
I've look also for the exactly same thing and I've reached to the following conclusion: you can't do anything about it.
I've tried tons of programs, registry editing, hexa editing etc. Spend days on the issue. Nada, nothing. I even some some experienced users saying that it can be changed almost any colors on tabs, exept the ones above.
LE: I think the most closest possibility for us to obtain this effect is to manually edit the wallpaper and place some dark boxes where the text is written, but this means that the dark boxes will apear on every other tab also.
hello...I have tried this UItweaker on my touch hd...
I tried the one to change the today screen font color...
and spinning wheel of death occured...
so I killed the UITweaker but the font color indeed changed
I soft reseted and changed it back - again spinning wheel of death - and after having back to nromal I removed it because it seems like not the program I want to my mess my phone...since it seems the device does not like it....
and anyway..i think that after having this program my google mpas started to be stupid - I dont know if it really is because of this - but now the google maps show My Location as a venezuela...that is not true, I am in middle europe...WTF I want it work again normally...
this sucks
so if you want try it, it changes the color, but it is not working flawleslly and I hate that...
The UI Tweaker only messed up my other colors, but doesen't changed the color I wanted.
Take care using it.
I also had issues with UI Tweaker, I somehow changed the background of the buttons on the home page (Phone, Programs, x button etc) to pink and couldnt change it back!
I remember seeing a Russian Rom that had black text on the home screen, so I do think its possible.
My workaround for the moment is to edit the background pic and draw an opaque box where the info is displayed.
I think it looks quite cool! It does take a bit of messing around (trial and error) to get it in the right place, and I still have to add a few more (date/alarm)... work is quite busy atm so I dont really have the time!
If I do find another way, I will post it here.
As I said, the only problem for this workaround is that in all other tabs, the background will apear with the boxes from the HOME tab.
I wonder if it is a way of having different wallpapers for each tab.
Must search that.
LE: Found that: Change wallpapers. It gives a solution how to have a different background picture for the rest of the tabs.
so simple
go to settings > home screne > scroll to color scheme & select > scroll to : text: black" then select done
I have WM 6.1 and have recently changed my background to something that has some white in it. Now because of this and the fact that the start menu is transparent I can't read some of the text in the menu.
Before anyone suggests it, yes I'm aware of how to change the text color using the registry. I am not interested in doing this, I tried it and didn't really like it.
I am looking to do one of two things:
1. Remove the transparency.
2. Add a thin black stroke to make it readable.
Any suggestion that works is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Does anyone have any knowledge of what I can do here? This is really pretty obnoxious and I don't know how to fix it.

Actually, the start menu is not transparent, but rather it uses a piece of the picture in your background to make it look as if it was transparent. Changing system fonts might solve your issue. There are a few programs that will allow you to do that in Dev&Hacking. Also, I believe that mrMakk has a tutorial on how to do this.
Alternatively, you can try to change the menu picture by using something like Theme Creator v2 or Theme Generator v2 (I can't remember the correct name for the program).
Thanks man, I'll give the theme generator a try when I get home.
Theme generator only works on 2002. The themes it generates could not be applied to WinMo 6.1...
Anyone got another suggestion? Surely there is a way to change the start menu picture in WinMo 6.1...
When I select a picture and set it as a Today Background, it brings up a screen so that I could select a Transparency Level.

He is asking about the transparency of the Start Menu isn't he? When you click on Start it drops down a menu correct?
On my phone, when I go to save a picture as my wallpaper, I am able to change the transparency of the Start menu. I'm not saying that's the only way, that's the only way I know and it worked for me.
If I'm wrong, I apologize.

Guys, I've been visiting this forum quite often now that Android has been ported. I found everyhing I needed, but there's something I just can't see how to do! I found some really nice icon packages. Well, the only question is how to use them? I didn't want to create a new thread, but there seems to be no answer to my question. Or I'm way to dumb and can't find it. Sorry and thanks in advance.
anycut or desktop visualizer can do it I believe
I just can't do it. If you could give me a step by step tutorial or something it would be extremely appreciated.
Anycut, Desktop Visualizer, Folder Organizer.... can only change shortcut icons I believe.

Yeah thats all he wants to do with the icon packs
I just did it ... better cut just kinda holds your hand and walks you through it.
But.... feeling nice i will tell you what I did.
I installed better cut then found icon packs I wanted to use.
Step 1: long press on the home screen and select shortcuts
Step 2: select better cut from the list of shortcuts.
Step 3: select the application you wish to use.
step 4: press change icon and find the icon you wish to use.
step 5: press create and voila your done.
No, I want to change the icons on the home screen and in the menu. Everywhere, actually.
oh well then try metamorph
but you have to find metamorph icon packs
That's what I was looking for! Thanks man. ^.^
I have a bit more indepth question relating to the same topic... I halped out with the Elegant Steel theme from this site and have most of it set up for metamorph but after I download and install metamorph, I go in and tell it to change the framework-res and it goes through the process, reboots the phone, I relaunch android, and it didn't change anything. I want to change the status bar, dialer, contacts, the whole 9 so to speak. Anyone know of a way to do that?

Do you have root? You can use droid explorer to do it if you can get it to work...
I really like this G2, and I really hate the softkeys.
Using stock launcher the issue is minimized, because they are trasparent: but apply a live wallpaper, and voilà, they are terrible black!!!
Yes, I know, just bought Hide Soft Keys, but it's not the same: the keys are not really transparent (20%) and the option Spoof soft Keys work well only in launcher, in other app the keys go on other part of app.
But now, my question: I opened sistemui_theme_white found in /system, and see bg_sysbar_normal.png in it.
If I change this png to a total transparent png of same dimension, the soft keys will look......????
But I'am not so able, and have no recovery, so I do not want to brick or bootloop.
Can anyone give me an opinion?
This is a development forum, you might want to take this to the Q&A.

tried myself to modify the apk.
as said, too simple: the coloured nav keys of lg covered black keys of system. Then, the transparent bar work, but is really unuseful
How do you change the stock icons? Can you get them from m the play store or do they have to be from the LG theme app?

Just use a launcher like Nova or Apex. Then apply whatever icons you want.
Actually came in here to answer my own question just in case someone was wondering. You can't change them unless you use the Home/app drawer option. Long press the icon will give you the little purple paint brush.
Well, after trying that, it seems no matter what I do, I can't rid of the black background the system places on the icons.
Also, try the themes in the smart world. A lot of themes have different icons

You can get rid of the black backgrounds. From a cnet article (Four settings to change on the LG G6): To switch back to normal icons, head to Settings and open the Display tab. Then select Home Screen, followed by Icon Shape and then tap Original.
