Is there a way to have continuous Edge Lighting after you've received a notification? I understand it might be a power drain, but the current mode just lights the phone up once which kinda defeats the purpose imo. Anyone know about any apps or other methods to make this happen?
I understand some people are having difficulties getting Edge Lighting to work at all. For me it works with some stock-apps, but not Whatsapp for example. I`m guessing future updates will take care of that.
Mine works great but i totally agree this is one feature i would give up some battery for. Would love it to stay on longer. Same border effect playing music on Stock Samsung music player with the screen on if you want to download it and check it out. Pretty cool.

I know where the option to shut off the light for the Video recording is but it doesn't shut off. My question is: is there of shutting off the light when i am recording a video on my phone? Maybe and app perhaps? or a way of deleting the setting in video mode? or a work around? anything? Its annoying when the option is there for it to shut off and it doesn't work. Its the same for my gf's xperia x10 phone too, it didn't work for 1.6 after the small update in summer and now it was fixed either with the bigger update. help please?
Take out the phone battery and re-insert. Hope this will solve the problem.

Yes, i have rebooted my cell phone several times. Thanks for trying to help out.
I also have this problem, the video light stays on despite the setting saying "Off".
Using 2.1.
search for xperia x10 flash light on market, it should work
Its on a low brightness. Just a privacy thing so other people know its recording. Kinda like the red light on most cameras

Oh really? thats too bad, i dont need the like all the time on, it kills my battery faster. I know before the update it used to be able to shut off once the setting was set on "OFF" mode. Ps other phones have the capability to record and have no light at all whats so ever. I dont think its a privacy issue

I agree with AssyrianBLOOD, it's a privacy issue. And don't worry about your battery life, HD video recording will kill it way faster. (For me, Battery life on 2.1 absolutely sucks )

The amount of battery life that an LED takes is so pathetically small that it shouldn't affect anything.
Every phone I've owned has had some sort of light to indicate recording as a privacy measure.
Is it something the manufacture imposed or government regulation? Because i know for a fact not every recording device (smartphones/ipod touch) has a LED or any indicator when you are recording. Secondly, the off setting used to work when x10 originally came out until the so called privacy issue came up. I want to know of a way of shutting it off without trying to cover it. I know HD also drains the battery faster but i am not making HD videos here, i'm making youtube videos for my faceboook and i though my phone does a good enough job. I just dont like the light setting having an OFF setting NOT working. If its a privacy issue than why have the setting to switch it off in the first place?
hey.. Sorry for hijacking the thread
I just came up with a thought.
The photo light does two levels of brightness as we know i.e Low brightness as a privacy feature while recording video and high brightness while switched on manually.
Is it possible(when the 2.1 source is released) that we can make a module to further increase power to the led to make it glow brighter so that we can actually use it as a led flash?? Just a thought
cheers
chetan
I just want to know if there is any of shutting it off thats it. You can hijack all you want once i get my answer ill move on. Im sure someone here knows how to shut off by some means thst doesnt require covering it.

Just thought I'd start this thread to ask what settings you guys have enabled to get the best quality pictures and videos on the Omnia 7?
Obviously I've already switched it to 720p recording!

hope you realize you need to set it to 720p every time you open the camcorder! personally i find 720p makes the framerate drop too far and the videos seem stuttery unless you are moving very slow and precisely.
i mostly use camera and always turn on anti-shaking as you dont really get a good picture without it under most conditions. I usually also put wide dynamic range on and turn the sharpness to high.
frustrates me a lot that there is no setting to shut the camera up as it makes it impossible to take photos in quiet setting without looking like an ass.
and whos idea was it to not let us save the settings! they make such a big deal of being able to take a picture realy quickly but in reality by the time you go into the settings and adjust everything it takes twice the time as any other phone! plus everyone turns to look at you because of the irritating noise.
rant over. generally im quite happy with my phone. cant wait for the update in January!

I think I agree with all your points. So annoying that settings can't be saved, what the hell is that about?! There is even a "revert to default settings" which is pointless because it does it regardless lol. It's the same with the "feedback" in the main settings, that always reverts to enabled.
WDR I had never heard of before but I see that it mixes both light and dark areas of the picture, which will be good for a lot of instances I imagine.
as the guy before i've found.
*anti-shake, wide dynamic range* sometimes sharpness depending on the object/scene* to work for me.
I'm hearing they did the settings to save power, as it's like putting your laptop on high performance *720p, anti shake* it's all CPU power in the end which = bat life, but people are expecting the same level of bat life as when it's in "power saver mode", a few seconds to change a setting isn't the end of the world for me...
BUT...
WOULD be bloody nice to lets say have a profile arrangement of some kind then.
So at least we could hit a button in the camera settings and bring back the settings from a previous time/profile.
Hey all,
Curious if there is any option to have the always on screen just show up on one of the edges, I think it did that last year on the S6 Edge +? I personally prefer that since the clock might get super bright in a dark room if there is no option to dim.
Hope somebody knows!
Thanks
Yupp there was Auto Cocktail on features, maybe someone can build it for the S7 Edge too
Yes you can do this. Settings>Display>Night Clock>then just set the time you want night clock to show up and it will show the time, Next alarm time and Bat level on the edge.
I was wondering this as well, and I know it can be used as night mode but is it possible to customize it sort of like having the Edge Panels as AOD? Like maybe I want it to stay on with my S Planner, is it possible?
Hey i received an update for the Always On Display (update number 1.1.22)
after i updated the app i noticed that the AOD is much dimmer in some places than it was before
also i noticed that my girlfriend's s7 AOD is much brighter than mine in the same areas (they were the same before the update)
is there a way to undo the update? (was update through galaxy apps)
Thanks in advance
As far as I know, the AOD dimming is introduced in APD1 and later firmware updates. What is your firmware version ?
Yep, they pretty much ruined the entire feature. Its now too dim to see in anything but outside in full sunlight. Indoors its pretty much just a black screen now. Been a month, they still havent fixed it.
The update is to solve screen burning, this is why is dimmer now.
Cheers.
No, it never burned in since it was always moving. Now it is so dim that i cant even see it, rendering the entire feature useless.
It must be a bug, it cant possible be intended.
Dunno if you tried it but I noticed my AOD accomodates with the lighting condition in the room but im often sitting in the corner where I face the light so when I turn it off I face it to the light so the AOD would be bright. weird habit for now huh hahahah
Still annoys me to hell that they basically took one of the best features of the phone and essentially ruined it (so dark its unreadable indoors, if you dont have a ceiling light shining straight on the sensor). Just by a single little forced software update. Why couldnt they just provide a simple brightness slider in the AOD settings?
Third party AOD apps exist that allow complete brightness control, but sadly none of them run with the samsung AOD "tech" so they all keep the phone hot and running as if fully awake, draining battery more than just the pixels being lit do.
just done the update this morning and I didn't notice difference in the brightness of the AOD. it remained the same. are you sure your dim situation is not caused by some setting, which was reset after the update ? For example, It happened to the fingerprint lock setting in my phone, which become corrupted, unusable after the update. I need to delete the previously saved fingerprint and add a new one again for it to work.
100% certain it was the update. I literally can barely see the AOD indoors anymore. Before the update it was always very bright and vibrant.

How often does your clock move on your screen, because mine stays stationary unless I turn the screen on and it turn it off again, then it'll change to a different position.
So I only went for phones that ever had an LCD display, because they'd not have an issue with burn in, from experience. But high end devices with an LCD display seem like a thing of the past. So, this is my first phone with an AMOLED display.
Now I use my phone constantly. All the time. That said, I actually have the brightness on this lower than my other phones of past, and I am super critical of what I do when binge watching youtube videos, or more. I even copy the link from youtube, paste it into newpipe (since I can resize PiP there) and then have a black screen running and move the screen around for the video on occasion.
But a lot of display issues I see keep arising on other forums, and I thought... Let me check. I got pretty lucky with my display, I think, but I really hate burn in. Upon my testing, when checking grey scale, or off-white images, at low brightness, I catch a very FEINT amount where the status bar is, such as battery and such, and only when brightness is maybe 15% or less.
Now I'm extremely paranoid. I hate burn in. What can I do to hide the status bar? Maybe force immersive mode on all screens? Is there a mod I'm unaware of that'll have it display the colors of the rainbow or something? I actually dislike gesture navigation, and actually switched due to the fact of potential burn in by having the navigation bar always visible. I already accepted I'll be dealing with a hole punch on the phone, burn in is going to drive me mad.

I've used many AMOLED phones and never had any issues with noticable burn in. I even used AOD on my S7 Edge. I keep my brightness all the way up most of the time.
Look into substratum for themes that can change the colors of the status and navigation bars.
I find that I just don't have a device long enough for it to really be an issue. Typical lifespan of a device for me is about 1.5 years.

Relax. Just dive in, the waters are good.
PS you can hide the nav pill thing in gesture on op8pro. Where it's invisible.
I have had no previous issues with burn-in on a phone but did get status bar burn in after 4-5 days of use on the OnePlus 8 Pro and that was mostly indoor use at medium to low brightness. I also noticed anecdotally that it also had noticeable temporary retention (which did eventually fade)
No idea if this was just my model or is typical to the new 10 bit panel OP is using? I had none of the black crush or green issues that others had.
