Kernel with buildin Recovery for Xperia Tablet Z Wifi (SGP311) - Xperia Tablet Z General

Hi,
a User in an other Thread here in xda said that i can't flash twrp on my TabZ with the command 'fastboot flash recovery twrp.img' because there is no recovery partition on the TabZ. All i've tried, flashing twrp 3.x failed. I can install XZDualRecovery, but here the Recovery thinks my Tablet is the LTE version (SGP321) and not the Wifi version. So i can't install custom Roms because if the "wrong" device.
Is there a Kernle with buildin Recovery out there that i can flash on my Tablet? I'll tried LineageOS 14.1 and for that i need twrp 3.x, XZDualRecovery is TWRP 2.8.x. The DoomKernel Downloads doesn't work, instead of downloading the files it opens some pages to casinos and online dating services.

Hello,
All latest custom ROMs have built-in TWRP recovery (3.0.2.0 or 3.0.3.0).
flash boot.img of any latest custom firmware like LA/RR/CR by "fastboot flash boot boot.img", reboot and enter recovery from where you can flash any custom ROM, gapps, etc.

as i've written 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' doesn't work on my xperia device. i've tried this more then twenty times with two xperia tablet z. thats why i'm asking for an alternative. a user here posted that on some xperia devices there is no boot partition so the only way is to flash a kernel with custom rom.
the only way for my to flash a recovery is XZDualRecovery. But here i have the problem that twrp and philz think they are installed on a xperia tablez z lte (sgp321) and not a xperia tablet z wifi (sgp311). i have this problem with both tablets.

I too am having issues flashing a recovery. A lot of the posts are old. There are posts that say to install the newest TWRP on the fota partition but I have not found a good tutorial on how to do that. I can root and unlock the bootloader. Just the dang recovery. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

This post is old but i found a solution. Not for flashing the recovery partition. It fails (command not allowed) despite the bootloader is unlocked.
The solution is first to flash the boot partition with TWRP V3.2 using "fastboot flash boot twrp-3.2.3-0-pollux_windy.img".
Reboot the device and you shoul'd be under TWRP.
Wipe data and dalvik cache (important !)
Using TWRP, install Lineage.
Reboot and Lineage starts.
The problem is that TWRP disapears after installing Lineage because the boot partition is re-formated by the install of Lineage. So, you can't install other Zips, like gapps for example. But what i made was using aptoid and i can do everything i need. The SGP311 under Lineage is a real pleisure except the fact that the IR connector is no more recognized.

You can flash TWRP to FOTA partition, and it will stay there permanently (=forever). Also you can use kernel for LOS with built-in kernel, so you can install zips whenever you want.

Succeed

Considering the TWRP zip is on /sdcard i used :
adb root (important)
adb shell

TWRP Not working

Hi, I have a essential phone running Oreo 8.1, just recently I have rooted the phone with magisk v16 an twrp 3.2.1, I successfully flashed it with twrp but after the flash whenever I want to get into twrp it just freezes up on the mount data screen and I have to force reboot it, does anyone know a solution to this problem
Make sure you're following the exact steps from this post. Every step is crucial (except #3, because you have to disable your screen lock before booting twrp.
You shouldn't have to manually mount anything in TWRP either. The magisk installer might give you an error about mounting system but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

You cannot have TWRP installed with 8.x.
TWRP is not compatible.
You must flash the original boot image, then install magisk.
TWRP cannot remain.
You will boot loop.
Please read the instructions on rooting carefully.
Ok thank you

Because the partition layout of the Essential does not have a recovery partition.
Recovery is contained in the boot image.
So to have TWRP resident/permanent, the boot image must be patched.
It has been done for 7.x, but sense 8.x is still beta, there is no official TWRP for Oreo.
Once Oreo is final, I expect we will get a TWRP that works.
The current limitation, means you can't flash without a computer handy.

[EXPLAINED] z2_row (pro) | /factory to /vendor | revert to /factory - TREBLE

A GUIDE TO FLASH LATEST TREBLE ROMS, OLDER TREBLE ROMS OR NON-TREBLE ROMS ROMS
UPDATE: A guide to rename our /factory partition as /vendor so that you can flash OLDER Android Oreo treble builds! We do not need this guide on Android Pie custom ROMs or for Stock ZUI WE ONLY NEED THIS FOR ANDROID OREO TREBLE BUILDS REQUIRING /factory renamed as /vendor
for Lenovo Zuk Z2 PRO
Latest Treble : /factory renamed i.e switched to /vendor
Older Treble:/factory mounted as /vendor
Non-Treble: Nothing to do with Vendor, Factory stuff lol
INTRO
As you all know that we now have TREBLE, and Zuk-devs are working hard to improve it further so that when the time comes we can move to GSI builds of future Android versions.
Recently, Zuk-devs have renamed the /factory partition into /vendor partition previously we were mounting /factory as /vendor but now it has been converted(renamed) to /vendor partition with this you'll be able to use a Proper Magisk zip, and you don't need a modded/edited Magisk, etc and lotta other kinds of stuff that we will discuss and come to know in the future.
rootdir: fstab: Use the right label for our vendor partition.
TUTORIAL:
What you want to do:
** Flash OLD TREBLE ROMS /factory is renamed to /vendor - NOTE NOT NEEDED FOR NEWER ROMS! **
Instructions:
* Flash "Factory2Vendor_plus.zip",
*Flash belowTWRP,
*Reboot To TWRP,

Notes:
This 'New TWRP' will work for both Latest Treble and Non-Treble RoMs
For ZUI also no need to flash any patch, New TWRP shall work (Needs to be tested)
You can flash Non Treble RoMs and Nougat Builds or other builds with the new TWRP and no patches need to be flashed
Once you flash "factory2vendor" or "vendor2factory" you do not need to flash again unless mentioned in the build
or if you want to revert back to Old Treble RoMs where /factory was mounted as /vendor

Thanks. I flashed last rom and after that updated twrp with twrp app and now I get no error about partitions.
I thought that to flash a twrp image with adb, I should do into fastboot mode. Can I also do it into recovery or system just with command : fastboot -i 0x2b4c flash recovery twrp.img?

I install f2v.zip then twrp https://github.com/cosmedd/android_...eases/download/20180413/20180413_recovery.img . After that restart to recovery . Finally install to the latest Aex . Always boot in recovery mode after an update

Hi,
I was updating my OP6T to the new version (Magisk + Xxx NoLimits), but after the reboot post-update the device started to reboot to recovery after it booted. So I've tried to delete Magisk but the problem was still present, so I've decided to download the latest Oxygen ROM from the OnePlus and flash it from TWRP, but after flashing, the device started to always boot to recovery (before the OnePlus boot animation).
At least i tried to restore a nandroid backup of 1 month ago (System, Boot and Data), but still the device after the restore still boot to recovery before the boot animation.
I've only tried the system reboot (I've not tried to force boot another slot).
Do you have a solution to try before formatting the internal storage?
Thanks
Edit: After unistalling magisk and reflashing it again, now the device boots again, but immediately after (when the lock screen appear) the device reboot automatically to recovery again
Try this:
- in twrp , dirty flash the rom you are using (Oxygen os)
- factory reset
- flash twrp (the latest the better)
- flash Magisk 19.1
Reboot to system.
If this not working, Format data will work.

Reboot (you will be unrooted and with stock recovery)
Boot to TWRP through ADB
Flash magisk unistaller
Reboot
Boot to TWRP through ADB
Flash OTA zip
Flash TWRP
Reboot to TWRP
Flash magisk

Ok, I've done this and actually is even worse, the device started to boot in recovery again and TWRP doesn't recognize that the internal storage is crypted, so i can't even access the internal storage (it shows only strange folders), so, now I can't flash the nandroid backup anymore.
I also mean FULL rom .zip.
Format data in twrp or in Fastboot. Or use MSM tool .

So I've to Full wipe and then adb sideload the ROM? Because at the current state I can't even boot the device, it always starts in TWRP
Edit: I've also tried the blue_spark's version but nothing changed, TWRP can't recognize the encrypted storage
you can try this first.

When you're saying you're flashing the full ROM after wiping, are you meaning the xxx no limit? If so this isn't an os rom it's just a magisk module rom that's an add on to oxygen os. You need to wipe and flash the latest oxygen os rom, stable or beta which ever you're using, then flash TWRP, flash your os again on the other slot, flash TWRP, flash magisk, if your system boots fine then flash the xxx no limits rom in twrp.

After update to V11.0.4.0.QFJEUXM TWRP no longer available

Hi Guys,
yesterday the new update came out, great.
I of course immediately pulled the zip (source) and installed it with TWRP (source).
So far no problems.
After a while I realized that I no longer had root because the apps stopped working.
When I wanted to boot into the TWRP to reinstall Magisk, I unfortunately found that it was no longer available, but only stock recovery.
Well, I thought to myself and tried to reinstall TWRP (method-twrp-3.3.1-2-davinci-fix), which was fatal, because my cell phone only booted into the Fastboot.
Then I got my cell phone, set up again with the Fastboot method.
Now I'm back to 11.0.4.0 but unfortunately without TWRP and root.
Can someone please describe how I can get TWRP and root again on Android 10?
I am thankful for every help !!!
Same thing happening to me, no matter what I do, stock recovery keeps overwriting TWRP
Oh dear, that doesn't sound good.
I hope there will be a solution to the problem soon.
I don't want to do without TWRP and root.
I wanted to try it according to these instructions "https://miui.blog/redmi-k20/twrp-mi-9t-redmi-k20-vbmeta-mauronofrio/". But don't trust me, I'm afraid that it won't work and I can start all over again.
Flash official TWRP this morning with fastboot commands without problem.
1. reboot in fastboot mode
2. Flash recovery with this command "fastboot flash recovery yourrecovery.img"
3. Reboot in recovery with this command "fastboot boot yourrecovery.img"
Any problems here.
The fact that twrp is lost when flashing official rom (even thought twrp itself) is normal. You just have to reboot into bootloader and flash twrp again and it will be back.
Your problem here is that you are using an old and unofficial twrp build, that has problems on newer roms. Flash official twrp and you'll be fine

Now flashed TWRP "twrp-3.3.1-0-davinci.img" in Fastboot and booted into Recovery (TWRP).
To be on the safe side, I had the cell phone booted again into the TWRP in the TWRP.
Then I flashed Magisk "Magisk-v20.3.zip".
Booted cell phone into the system and everything works.

To install TWRP, is it neccesary to wipe Data (or something else)?
And if Data must be wiped, does it mean that Data will no more be encrypted as originally by MIUI?
I have 11.0.4.0, rooted by Magisk (Magisk installed simply by patching and flashing boot.img, did not need TWRP for, did not wipe Data, etc) and I possibly want to have TWRP but don't want to loose encryption of Data, Widewine L1 and so

You don't need to wipe anything to install a custom Recovery (like TWRP).
TWRP can handle ROM encryption, you just need to install a correct TWRP, and version, for your current MIUI / Android version.
A custom Recovery doesn't change Widevine level.
And TWRP is useful in case of bootloop (because of an installed Magisk module, by example) or if you want to easily reinstall Magisk after ROM update.

Ok thanks, so starting from v11.0.4.0 QFJEUXM, rooted by Magisk (did not wipe Data or so, just patched and flashed boot img), is it ok just to flash (from Fastboot) twrp-3.3.1-0-davinci.img, downloaded from the official site https://twrp.me/davinci/twrp-3.3.1-0-davinci.img
Maybe I could test first by
fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-0-davinci.img

Yes, it should work.
But I prefer OrangeFox Recovery.

Something is fishy. IMO, if that official TWRP is really ok for 11.0.4.0, then it should correctly boot by:
fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-0-davinci.img
But phone rebooted into the dark.
TG, I didn't really flash with, so by long pressing Pow it rebooted to system.
Tried again, no avail
Edit:
Tried the same fastboot boot with
twrp-3.3.1-12-davinci-mauronofrio.img and also OrangeFox-R10.1_1-Stable-davinci.img (obtained by unzipping OrangeFox), but it also reboots to dark and I have to long press Pow to reboot to system

Hi Guys,
yesterday the new update came out, great.

You can install twrp by All In One tool
You can find its thread here itself
I took the official TWRP. " Link "
Flashed in fastboat and then booted the phone with a key combination in TWRP.
With the Fastboot command it didn't work for me either, the cell phone remained black ...

Will this be able to format data on Android 10 encryption like SHRP?
Flashed it from fastboot but doesn't come ,only comes fastboot mode ?
Only Sharp works in 10 properly.

It just won't boot. You can still recover from this by enabling the setting in twrp and reformatting data.
You will lose data regardless of this being enabled because this is only used for formatting data. That's what formatting data does

can I install shrp recovery zip and then miui12...
what I will do is -->
1. install this recovery in b slot through minimal adb
2. boot in twrp
3. install shrp recovery zip file (phone is still in b-slot)
4. change slot to a
5. reboot recovery
6. format data
7. install miui12
8. reboot
will this steps safely boot my device???
hello. first thank you very much for your hard work. i really apreciate.
so, i was on stock rom, freshly unlock the bootloader and flash twrp unofficial for android 10.
then in twrp i flash the zip installer and reboot to recovery.
once again in twrp i, like i'm use to, wipe successfully dalvik/system/data to erased all of stock rom.
then i format data (the one typing "yes" for confirmation) but it broke internal storage.
twrp does not show any file or folders. i rebooti in recovery but it won't show anything
i reflash twrp and the same... nothing.
so i went to fastboot mode and flash shrp, boot up in recovery but it was still not showing files or folders of internal storage. i wipe dalvik/system/data and reboot to recovey.
and this time it show folder but with codes like "QRGHQ9R4HGVUQE4RNG98TH9324HTG923" OR "66EFQ3KFK4TK34KT3K4K34K2KK2" and so...
what do i 'm doing wrong?
can i format data with out breaking internal storage?
the only thing i can do to get internal storage was flash stock rom again, i have not encrypted anything, i don't use microsd card, even i don't use password to unlock screen.
thanks in advance for your comments.

Ok you performed Format > And type "Yes" , actually this will Format your internal storage as well, RIP for your Data now else you took a backup earlier.
Now connect your phone to your PC with data cable , in mount section check if MTP is enabled if not then enable it , now your phone's internal storage shows in PC transfer Rom flash Zip files to internal storage, disconnect from PC and flash that rom.
Recovery choice is yours SHRP or TWRP
Note - Do not perform format > yes before flashing that zip.

Not able to flash recovery
I am on the latest stock android patch, probably that's why not able to flash recovery.
First I tried TWRP 3.3.1-2 Unofficial by Nikesh Kataria from the other post. As it said it supported android 10 with decryption and everything. But it didn't work.
Now with version 3.4.0-0, I am able to boot into recovery using platform-tools. But the files in /sdcard seems to be encrypted (judging by the codes shown instead of readable folder names).
Could someone please help me suggest any recovery which supports latest stock android 10 with decryption?
Is there a way around this?

Decryption will only work if you format data first. This is with every recovery. Has to be a factory reset of stock ROM or fresh install of custom ROM and from then twrp will be able to decrypt if it is installed, you're not installing it either by the way just temporarily installing it to inactive slot which will get wiped on reboot. For twrp to decrypt you must install it using the installer.zip by flashing it in you're temporarily installed twrp.img

Thanks for the help.
But after booting into twrp, how do I install twrp.zip. I even tried sideload that also errors out "Unable to find partition for path /cache".
May be I am missing some step. But here is what I have done.
Unlocked bootloader.
Booted into TWRP on inactive_slot(i.e. slot_b , in my case) with command fastboot flash boot twrp.img
Trying to install twrp.zip (failing at this step itself).

Some ROM has some recovery integrated within the OS. If i install that and then the ROM, will the ROM's recovery overwrite this?
