[Q] Difference between "Baseband Version" and "Build Number"

I have Froyo (motafoca's custom rom) installed on Galaxy 3 (I5801).
In Settings > About Phone following information is shown:
Baseband version: I5800xxJP4
Build Noumber: FROYO.XXJPF
What is the difference between both of these things?
Can Baseband Version be upgraded?
Baseband version means Radio version in the phone

So is it possible to update it?
When we update the ROM, or when we install a custom ROM, does this baseband version get updated?
baseband should updated if you will flash image in PHONE part in odin. if you are flashing custom rom then you do not flash this part. you flash PDA only. so radio and bootloader you usually dont flash.
flashing radio is allegedly only thing that can brick your phone.
in our galaxy 3 jpf rom we have baseband version I5800XXJP4. i think this is newest version. if not, somebody can correct me.

Its the bootloader that can brick your phone. Not the radio.

But the changes in baseband version would improve/decrease radio preformance? what will happen if you replace new baseband version with an old one?

[Q] Flash From 4.4.4 to 4.2-4.3 Troubles

When I attempt to flash back from a rooted stock 4.4.4 to 4.3 it takes a longer period of time for the phone to boot up, when it does I'm unable to get phone or wifi signal. I've tried 4.2.2 and the phone signal works but can't enable wifi. What else should I include doing after flashing the stock roms?
Current phone info if necessary:
Android version 4.4.4
Baseband Version M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.98
Kernel Version 3.4.0-perf-ga6edd5e
[email protected] #1
Build number KTU84P
For wifi/network activity you need to flash the corresponding radio of that android version aswell.
Newer radio's dont seem to work on older versions of android (eg. 4.4.4 radio on 4.3)

I've tried flashing radio .83 & .84, the wifi will work but no mobile signal and when I check the phone info it reads unknown under the baseband version.

[Q] TMO using AT&T I337

What I have:
Model number: Samsung SGH-I337
Baseband Version: I337UCUFNC1
Build Number: KOT49H.I337UCUFNC1
Android Version: 4.4.2 at&t
Security software version: MDF v1.0 Release 2
Safestrap loaded and working, Rooted and busybox installed. SIM umlocked using tmo sim now. Safestrap backed up.
What I need help with:
Be able to flash a tmo rom that has working wifi calling either 4.4.2 or 4.4.4, Rooted stock type rom ok. Tried flashing a few roms but got boot loops or no wifi, had to restore at&t rom from safestrap backup. Need help to find out if flashing new baseband will keep tmo bands. What basebands can be used or modified for tmo bands. What Rom can I use with what baseband? No problem using odin also if needed. Tried searching for 2 +days. many answers alluded to but not clearly, thanks for looking.

different build number and baseband number

So, I bricked my phone and then got it working again by flashing N12, rooted and all that jazz and then upgrade to a deodexed BOG5 firmware with flashfire to keep root.
I want to flash a custom rom and im not sure if i should proceed. I had Optimal ROM and Freedom ROM in mind. Last time i tried to flash the optimal rom. This bricked my phone but at the time my baseband was OA8. idk if it had anything to do with bricking my phone but i did do what i found out was called a "dirty flash" which may have had something to do with it.
My question is with my build number from BOG5 and my baseband from N12, is there a need to update it? Dow do i go about upgrading it to match the build? I installed OD5 bootloader so im not sure why the baseband is not either from BOG5 or OD5. My kernel is also BOG5 3.4.0-4782027.
also last qeustion: can i dirty flash the rom after im done and set, or should i always wipe and then flash?
