Can you give me the mp3 whistle sound in S8?
I don't see "Whistle" on my S8 (AT&T) under ringtones or notifications.
Whistle notification sound was replaced with skyline tune since the s6 came out.
I just moved from the S5 to the S8+. Is there any way to get my whistle sound added back to the selection menu?

Find a whistle mp3 (google it).
Go to the My Files application, create a folder called Media (if it isn't already present).
Inside that, create a folder called "Notification Sounds".
Place the mp3 there.
Go back to the notification selection and you will find an entry with the file name (example: filename: Whistle.mp3, entry: Whistle).
Done.
Worked! Grazie tanti!!

Hey guys. I have no problem adding mp3's and the likes for ringtones, but can I use those clips for sounds too? Such as voicemail alerts, text message alerts? I can't find a folder to put them in on the Shadow.
Thanks!
Go to Applications Data then Sounds on your phone, then drag & drop whatever tones you want in there and wa-la, its done. Then go to your settings and change to what sound you want.
FYI: For texting and alerts, you may want to use a short tone like 1-3 sec long because it will play all the way through the tone until its finished. Or theres a mp3 trimmer somewhere around here you can modify the tone to your likings.
i have always used this program,
its great and you can cut mp3's to your likings!!
very easy to use
So I tried to make a sound file from my computer a text notification sound...
I dropped into the "Rings" folder in windows, it was a MP3 file, it showed up there and played. I went to go select it from the "Notification Sounds" but it wouldn't show up.
I later noticed all of the files were WMA, so I converted it did the same procedure and it still wouldn't show up for selection in there...
So idk what to do, I'm trying to basically make a custom text notification sound but its not showing as a selection once I drop it into the folder where the Alarm/Alert/ and Ringers are found... HELP!
I have my ringtones and notifications sounds on my sd card. I use phonealarm to select my profiles and sounds. Works great.
where'd u get the phonealarm app?
Its still on my device, if I were to put it all on my SD card would it work then? I'd rather just drop the file in there and select it from the Notification's selection, I'm just really annoyed with it right now been working at it for a while and nothing is coming up... I just want it to work finally lol.
I know it's a really late response, but if you want to change your sms alert tone, just copy the .mp3 into your 'Windows' folder on the device.
You should then be able to select it in the settings.
put them in application data\sounds folder and they will show up. thats how I have mine and it works fine.
I have all my sounds in the root of my SD card.
Figured out on the Touch HD that SMS/Reminders sounds needed to be .wav and not .mp3
Try to convert to .wav and drop it again.

Have you tried to just copy and paste it into the "Windows" folder? Not any of the sub-folders...
Hi,
Managed to set MP3 as ringtones using two different methods:
1. Via music player, long press and then 'Set As'
2. Using applications, called shartones and another one called ringtone.
Immediately after I create/save the ringtone I can see it is the list and I can choose it.
I used shartones application, edited an MP3 20 sec, saved as ringtone.
The ringtone was added to the list OK, the file WAS created in \sdcard\media\audio\ringtones\ and the file is still there after the restart, but doesn't appear in the ringtones list anymore...
When i add or move files into this directory it is useless and I can't see them on the list.
As if when I add a ringtone it is added to the database but entries are deleted when the phone starts up again...
After I turn off the phone and on again, all the ringtones are gone and none is in the list, the ringtone which is set is a default one from the original ringtones.
Does anyone have any clue for me where to look for a solution or find what goes wrong?
Thanks,
Ofer
I've set custom ringtones, notifications and alarms via settings and at least twice the SGS has lost or scrambled them (I'm not sure if it's related to me playing around with alternate launchers).
Anyway, I remember the exact same thing happening on my Nexus One and Eclair, so I think this is a basic Eclair bug rather than SGS specific.
I'm not sure how to replicate the issue, but it definitely can happen.
Hi,
did uninstall the launcherPro and restarted, I just go through same scenario again and again after each restart...
The files are piled in the ringtones directory but none appears in the ringtones list after restart.
Is there an editor that I can change file attribute, E.g. 'ringtone=Y'? (assuming there is such attribute to be set for a file?! )
Then maybe it will be picked properly to the list.
Guys any idea?
Help please.
Ofer
Just tried this. Works well. Go here: http://www2.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php
Enter text you would like as your notification. Select voice. Save and rename. Go to online .wav to mp3 convertor of your choice and convert. Copy file and paste in your Note's notification folder. Go to settings, sound, default notifications and select file you just created. *note: female voices seem to be more easily heard (years in an artillery unit didn't help my hearing at all). I guess it's the pitch.
I just went back to a stock based ROM after trying out lineage OS. One of the things I miss the most is being able to browse the file system to choose a ringtone. Why does lineage OS allow me to use a file browsing app to pick a ringtone and stock does not?
The problem is that I have made a collection of sound bites. Each sound bites has three different edits depending on what the purpose is. I differentiated each edit by storing them in different folders. The file names are all the same. using an LG V20 and it just gives me a gigantic list of sound files. Cirtain file system apps allow you to do this however their functionality is limited. For example they Wouldn't let you set notification sound or ringtones for specific numbers.
actually you can select any ringtone you wanted from your file system. Only issue is u can't see the folder structure.
Go to Settings > Sound > SM1 ringtone > (or just ringtone in case if ur phone is single sim). there you will see the list of available ringtones. Yeah, u can't see ur files there. but on top right, there are 2 buttons for add and delete ringtones. When u click (+) button, it will list out all the audible files on your phone. select the file u want and set it as your ringtone.
