MiFlash taking a loooooooong time. Is that nomal? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

On my Axon A2017U (B19) I unlocked the bootloader, and in the process of flashing TWRP, appear to have bricked my phone. It won't boot past the initial ZTE screen, sits there for a second or so, and then just goes black. It look like it is in EDL mode, as I can see it in the COM ports in device manager as "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM 10)". No matter which key combination I try, it keeps going back to this state.
I saw a suggestion that I try another version of MiFlash, with the B15 full EDL package. It seems to be running, but it's been going for over 50 minutes now, and only shows 5-10% complete. The Status message hasn't changed in 45+ minutes. See attached screen shot.
Is this how it is supposed to run? If not, is there a "clean" way to stop the process and try again? Thanks!

OK, I reset and used the 2016.08.30 version of MiFlash. I was able to flash the B15 full package, and I'm back in business.

Bricked phone following fastboot install of 7.1.1 (N4F26O, Feb 2017)

So today was time for me to wipe clean and install a factory image like I've always done (bootloader unlocked fyi). I go through the usual fastboot flash procedures. Get into the OS, login, start the play store updates. I let my phone sit and 20 minutes later I try to wake it to check the status... NOTHING. Screen has been black since. I've tried charging it, getting into the bootloader mode. I even tried using XiaoMiFlash and QFIL to get things back on track. I have the "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008" in my device manager. I can hear the phone connecting and disconnecting when I hold the power button.
QFIL has been complaining about Sahara failing but when it does gets past that it fails at the Firehose stage where it tries to upload files to the device.
I'm pretty pissed that a legit factory image from Google would cause that. My device has never suffered from any soft or hard bricks before. Never exhibited battery drain issues either. But today after a flash it goes flat out dead.
Has anyone ever had any luck unbricking a 6P through XiaoMiFlash or QFIL?
You may have better luck posting in the dedicated thread for this;

Good luck!

Chinese Axon 7 is not seen in ADB or MiFlash..Bricked??

After installing twrp on my chinese axon 7 latest B16 I rebooted accidentally and now my phone gets stuck on the the ZTE logo.
I cant enter recovery as when I press volume up + power, it reboots a couple of times with the zte logo and nothing else.
Also when entering EDL mode the only thing my PC is showing in device manager is "Handset Diagnostic Interface(DFU) (COM6)". Before it was showing as "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008" but no more, even after multiple reboots and installing the qualcomm drivers again.
Before when running "adb devices" in the CLI I would see my device but now nothing. and running adb reboot edl shows error: no devices/emulators found.
Also tried MiFlash but when I hit refresh I dont even see COM in the list, its just blank.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
as I tried the below guide but get stuck as my device is never picked up by ADB or MiFlash

Yeah, DFU brick. You basically need to follow the 4th category brick repair guide. Good luck

wow damn..I found this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/a2017-4th-category-brick-repair-manual-t3585898
But I see it involves me opening the device which I am trying to avoid as a last resort.
I just sent the seller from Ali-express to see if they will replace it.
Never actually told them that I was tinkering with it.
Fingers crossed on the reply, will update the thread once I receive a reply.

well that's the other way lol
I had to follow the guide, and it fixed my phone, so be assured that you can fix it if they send it back
It seems I got really luck as putting my phone in Factory test mode made device manager finally show "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008" which I was then led MiFlash in detecting it.
I was then able to flash Stock B13 and from there unlock the bootloader, flash twrp and root.

Usually you can't enter Factory Test Mode when on a DFU brick. The known procedure to do that is to discharge the phone, then put it into FTM somehow and then using ADB to get to EDL. It's really weird that you've been able to pull that off that way
Could you tell us how you got into FTM? Just by vol down and power? It would be a nice addition to the brick guide, before attempting to take the phone apart
Yeah, it was just by power + volume down.

You can restore you device using fastboot rom. Search for oos 6t fastboot rom.. There are guides for installation.
P.S. It will give a whole bunch of error in the cmd during installation but don't interrupt the process as your device will be restored in the end
Use Mnm tool to fix your phone. It can fix hard brick devices and guidance is there how to use .
PS: this is not right place post next time post on Q/A section.
Hold all the buttons down till it shuts off, almost a full minute. Then get it to boot to fastboot, power off. Then start up msm, then while phone is unplugged and off, hold both vol buttons for a 4 count, then plug it in. Msm will day connected, hit start. Let it finish and reboot. that's all
Qualcomm crashdump is not the same as download mode, and will not work with MSM. You still need to put your device manually into download mode.

Hold down every button till it shuts off, then force reboot to bootloader, then select power off to make sure it's off. Then do as I instructed above to fix it. Sometimes u can just run a fastboot rom to fix it, or boot twrp and flash a rom. I do this multiple times a day sometimes.

Thanks everyone who replied. The whole thing started when I tried to update my TWRP the wrong way and I got nothing better to do. I was on 3.2.3-1 and the newest on the website (TWRP) was 3.2.3-2, but I flashed the image instead, into vendor. This got me into the Qualcomm CrashDump Mode and it kept on rebooting to it as well. There was no way that I was be able to use the MSMDownload tool to recover my 6T as the tool couldn't detect my device as it was connected as Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 900E not Qualcomm HS-USB QDloader 9008.
I pressed all the buttons and got into FASTBOOT mode! Then I booted TWRP, luckily all my stuff isn't corrupted and I did a Nandroid backup beforehand as well. So, I just restored my Nandroid backup and voila I got my 6T back. Thanks again everyone

If your using windows search for device manager to see what your device is being detected as. Try and reboot if your device isn't Qualcomm HS-USB QDloader 9008. Once it shows that try and update the driver, but you'll need to be a admin. Have you installed Oneplus USB Drivers?

Help I can not get in to fastboot mode. Im stuck in Crashdump mode. Even when i power off the phone holding powerbutton down for a while it will powerup again and the unlocked bootloader warning window with "press power key to pause boot" will not react to any presses.
Also booting and holding down power+down will result in the same and go to crashdump mode.
What do I do

i attempted to root my zte maven 3 with zpst for at&t and when the device went to restart the screen stayed black and no matter what key combinations i try i cannot get the screen to turn on. The only thing the phone does is connect to the pc and makes that connection noise. it connects as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008. does anyone have any advice or suggestions that might help
Did you make any partition backups in QFIL by any chance? If not, I have no idea how one would go about fixing it. What's your bootloader version? I can try to give you my partition backups and you can try flashing it and seeing if it'll boot.
Tbh I should write my own rooting guide, because the existing methods are, quite frankly, ****ty and dangerous. To anyone reading this, please open QFIL and make a backup of all of your device partitions before messing with anything; this is basically creating a bit-for-bit backup of the storage itself, such as the persist partition, userdata, system, etc. I had to buy a for-parts Maven 3 from eBay because I bricked my Maven 3 using the same guide...
And don't use ZPST from now on. You don't need it. Everything can literally be flashed as a partition in QFIL easily. This is how I safely flashed a Magisk boot image (partition) and half-working TWRP recovery partition.

Your device is in EDL mode. It's the only mode that connects as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008, and EDL mode doesn't display anything on your device screen. Just take the battery out for a second and you should be able to boot normally.
I'm going to post a new thread in this forum as soon as I send this, where I'll run down the steps I took to achieve root on my Maven 3 just this morning. I've powered off and booted up about 5 times since rooting and it's still rooted.
I have edl mode no boot no screen no lights, what do do next. I tried removing battery no luck

I am unsure of what you can do because iirc i faced the same issue. I have full partition dumps for my current maven 3, some of which (except for example persist) I can send and you can try flashing it using QFIL since your device sounds like it's in EDL mode

[solved]Bricked my OP6t on A11 while tinkering, stuck in boot loop (?hard bricked), windows 7 doesn’t detect Device as Qualcomm device

I was on A11.1.1.1 , when I decided to root my device. Tried to install Twrp but failed, then unlocked boot loader and flashed magisk using Adb from my windows 7 desktop. Phone restarted, went into bootloop, then restarted naturally - however I couldn’t turn on Wi-Fi. Downloaded SuperSU, which showed device was rooted. In an attempt to revert back to stock os, I flashed another boot image, and phone went into continuous boot loop. So I searched the web and downloaded Qualcomm hs-usb QDloader 9008, and MsmDownload tool v 4.0 in an attemp to unbrick my device and installed them. However, my desktop doesn’t recognise my phone as Qhusb_bulk or as Qualcomm qhusb qdloader9008 in devicemanager. So I m unable to use the MSM tool to un brick my phone. Tried reinstalling the drivers on desktop , but the phone doesnt show up on device manager still. Only shows up as “pci simple communications controller” under other devices.
When i turn on my phone, it shows the OP logo going round and round for 5mins, then the screen goes blank. If I keep the power off button pressed for quite sometime, phone restarts into boot loop again. Can’t get into boot loader, nor does adb on my desktop recognise the device.
i m at my wits end as to how I m gonna unbrick my phone, as this is my primary phone. Kindly guide me step by step as to how to unbrick my OP6t. Any help is appreciated.

When you get it to reboot did you try holding volume down as it starts? Should get you into recovery then bootloader.
Also get magisk to root rather than SuperSU. You can install twrp from magisk in oos with the correct installer but first you have to root correctly with modded boot.img. Can make your own or get from the one post in here. I'd suggest getting the newest oos also.

Probably need to flash a stock boot of 11.1.1.1 to unbrick. You can try booting to the newest twrp from fastboot I'm not sure if it works anymore.

Couldn’t fastboot into twrp, since device got corrupted while trying to flash multiple things. Thankfully while tinkering, my desktop recognised my device as qhusb qloader 9008, and all I had to do was boot my device into edl mode (which was also a pain tbh!). After trying numerous key combinations and timing it perfectly, device booted into edl and I could use the msm download tool to unbrick my device. Now device has rebooted into iOS 10.3.5 (same version as msm tool version) and I have somehow breathed a huge sigh of relief that my device could be resuscitated. Will be updating to 11.1.1.1 now (I see the latest is 11.1.2.2) and setting up my device now.
Thank you a lot for looking into my issue and suggesting solutions. In my younger years, I was a technology enthusiast and often rooted/flashed, but have pursued medicine since then. Now am out of touch completely to the tech scene and it was a grave blunder on my part to have used my primary driver to try and root/flash again.
Have a great day, my friend and please know that it means a lot to me to have received help from the community.

This happen to me several times and the first time it happened I thought my phone would not be unbricked after numerous attempts with the msm tool!
My issue was that my phone was a renewed amazon phone and amazon listed it as a unlocked international but it actually was a t-mobile variant and when i downloaded the correct msm tool with firmware it worked!
You need to get the phone into edl mode. For edl, when phone off press both volume buttons and plug in the usb while connected to your pc and the qualcom driver should pop up in device manager. After that finding the right msm firmware will be your next issue but with enough searching you should find it!
Let me know your progress with the driver and I can try and post some links to different msm firmware for the oneplus 6t!
