RETUS stock firmware? - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Does anyone have the stock fw for retus devices? (I unwisely neglected to back it up before modifying /system. Thought I had. Oops.) Thanks.

hit thumbs up if i helped you

Thanks. I did see that, and the other thread, but I thought it was a different region's FW.
Is /system the same across regions and just /oem different? What makes a retus phone different from a retin/reteu one; where does that setting live?

I recovered my RETUS XT1687 with the rom that was labeled -35 (as I remember mine came with -35, it's an Amazon non subsidized model)
there are definitely differences between RETIN/RETEU and RETUS mainly the replacement of NFC with a compass but I have seen no issues with the rom I used(ie: TMUS wifi calling works, VoLTE works, camera works, etc)...I wonder if there's scripts that install the proper blobs?

Interesting. Is your "software channel" still showing up as retus?

Yep

Did you use POTTER_NPN25.137-35 or POTTER_AMZ_NPN25.137-35 ?? (AMZ is presumably the Amazon in-store app version?)

I don't think I've seen a AMZ image but i used the former...I dunno what would happen if I installed the AMZ one on my phone as mine isn't an AMZ model

Moto Firmware
I did the same thing with my moto g6 xt1925-6 variant. I couldn't get factory firmware from Motorola but I did come across this site hosting a bunch of factory images. Hope it helps.

Stock ROM for XT1625 US retail version

Hi,
I was rooting my Moto G4 XT1625 US retail version (non-Amazon version) but getting stuck at boot. So, I said, what the heck, I went on to flash CM13 on it. That works but I found battery life to be worse, and so I would like to try to go back to stock (with root of course).
However, I'm having trouble figuring out which is the correct stock ROM from file factory. I'm not sure what is the naming convention, and there doesn't seem to be any easy way to search on file factory. Currently, there are 26 pages with a total of 774 ROMs there.
Thanks.
Hello, in case you haven't resolved your problem yet here is what I did to return my phone to stock. I have the same model, XT1625 (not Amazon). Download this file http://www.filefactory.com/file/28u...PJ24.139-49_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
Follow these instructions: http://www.stechguide.com/download-stock-firmware-of-moto-g4-and-g4-plus/
good luck

Thank you very much. I managed to restore to stock from a Nandroid backup, but I will download this and keep it as a backup in case I need it in the future.
Still, I wonder about the naming convention of the files. It will make searching in the future a lot easier if we know how they are named.
Out of curiosity, does anyone know if you can flash the normal xt1625 retail rom on a boot loader unlocked Amazon xt1625?

I did flash an older retail room and it worked but when I tried a later rom it bricked the phone. I had to send it in and Motorola reflashed it with the latest retail rom.

It was never unlocked, I missed the window and waited too late to get my unlock code. My wife needed a phone so I gave her this phone and picked up another non amazon G4 for myself. At least it now has a non-Amazon rom on it and is on the retus update channel instead of AMZ. Maybe I got lucky and they flashed the wrong rom on it but I'm not complaining.
Does anyone have link to stock firmware of XT1625 Amazon Ad variant?
I unlocked the bootloader and tried all the techniques on this forum to remove ads. All methods failed with "Unauthorized software installed" message at boot.
The only method worked was installing APK and running it.
I tried downloading and flashing ATHENE_AMZ_MPJ24.139-64_65_cid50_amz from Motorola website but it does not have motoboot.img as mentioned in the steps.
I would like to re-lock the bootloader but need a stock firmware to do that. Could someone please provide it?
does anyone have this file posted someone else so i don't have to wait 5 hours for it to download. not paying for this.
Quick question for those that have flashed NPJ25.93-14, did they fix the issues with it? Play store downloads? Battery drain? Ghost touches? Camera problems? Music playback? And notifications sound?... It's the only reason I've not flashed the aforementioned ROM... I'm curious.
These were problems first reported when the ROM was released in December. Thanks.

The following bugs are known to be fixed -
2G mode in Mobile Networks (Wasn't there after Marshmallow)
Notification Volume (Was low after Marshmallow)
UI Lags (Animations weren't very smooth after last month's Nougat update)
Bluetooth Connection Time (Used to take much longer in the previous build)

In that case I will continue to wait before I upgrade. I have Nougat on my Moto G3, and I like it, but the battery issues(both charging/discharging) are no es bueno. Some people have reported that rebooting into safe mode multiple times, helps with certain issues. YMMV.

USA Update

Is there any news on USA update, for the XT1644 RETUSA MPJ24.139-64 or any US variants out there? Seems like the whole forum is for Moto G4 Plus any variant in India.

Here you can find a full stock (factory images) build for Android 7. I have been using it for a couple of days already on my XT1644 64GB/4Gb (RETUS) and it's worked flawlessly.

Firmwares with the ending 92-x are for India and Brazil, ending on 93-x for Europe, US and Asia Pacific.
For Europe/US the latest firmware is 93-10 (April security patch).
The latest one I found uploaded is 93-4. The same for India, 92-4 is uploaded.

A lot of people did. Maybe that's causing problems, I only know that you can't receive OTA's anymore.
The devices should work as expected but what happens if you flash a custom ROM and go back to stock (maybe another build?)I don't know but it's possible that all this voLTE and IMEI losing stuff is related to it.

That's what happens when there's multiple variants of the same phone and no one properly labels the firmware or provides specifications. I've done it, got back to stock with a locked bootloader and recovered IMEI. OTA updates installed with no issues but left with stuck with IMEI 0 again. Anyone in this situation who failed to make an initial backup with EFS or lost that backup is screwed. At this point you're best option is to stick with a stable Oreo ROM. We're getting better support from devs while Lenovo leaves us in the dark.

As the Amazon firmware was unlockable until a few days ago there is no special firmware uploaded.
But I'm not sure that you can't flash the standard firmware or maybe the builds are identical. Unfortunately there is no NPNS25.137-93-8 firmware uploaded atm but there is a NPNS25.137-93-10 build (april security patch):https://drive.google.com/open?id=16Bfp3nVfvKMURAeKagOaOImX-lvJrYBF
As I said, I'm not sure if the firmwares are similar so if you flash it you do it at your own risk.

It's a kind of manufacturer storage:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/cr...on-general/observation-oem-partition-t3189677
All changes the manufacturer does are stored in OEM.
So if you flash a standard firmware the device may change to a standard retail device too.
But this is a bit over my knowledge about firmwares, maybe some of the pro's could have a look into it.

If you flash the complete NPNS25.137-93-10 firmware via fastboot (as there is no 93-8 available and downgrading could hardbrick your device) it should work like this. It's the same hardware after all.
But there is always a risk in crossflashing (if this is crossflashing at all), maybe Amazon has built in some kind of security feature.
But as far as I understand the whole thing the Amazon version is just a normal Moto G5+ with some changes made in the oem partition.
If you flash the 93-10 firmware all traces should be overwritten and you should be in the standard reteu channel and be able to receive OTA for it.
But remember, you do everything at your own risk.
Maybe you can contact someone who owns a Amazon build too, here is a thread about it:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/help/resolved-root-moto-g5-plus-amazon-t3652932
Edit: After unlocking your device it is wiped.
Did you recognise the difference of the oem partition before or after the wipe?

I think that depends OTA updates. For example: Some users flashed a 92-x firmware on their european/us (reteu, retus)device. This firmware is made for India and South America (retin, retbra).
Their devices are still working completely but they don't get any OTA anymore. The devices still say reteu but the OTA server is looking for a 93-x firmware which is not present. I think these users can return to their software channel by flashing a 93-x firmware.
As you are going to flash a 93-x on a device running a 93-x firmware you should be good to go.
The only uncertainty is if Amazon has done anything that signs your device as "Amazon prime" even after flashing a whole new firmware.
The result would be no OTA. But I don't think so, even if that may be technically possible.
We all won't be sure until someone with a Amazon device tries it.

Differences between AMZ and GFI firmware?

USA and GFI seem to be the same firmware (same md5 checksum for the ones I've tried) but what's the difference between the one from Amazon and GFI? I assumed the one from Amazon was just an unlocked version of the phone, not that it came from Amazon and with customizations and stuff but maybe it does? Would like to know.

No difference right now, but best to stick with the NAO version. No difference there, either, but at least it promises it's the North American Open Market variant.
On V30 all the way through Nougat and Oreo there were no differences between the various US998 variant KDZ, but now with Pie there is a difference with US998 Pie US998 KDZ. So it can happen.
NAO firmware is the safest.

But the Amazon firmware, unlike GFI and USA, is a couple hundred MB bigger in size so what accounts for that difference?
