[REQUEST] [Q] Assertive Display for Athene (SD617) - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

So, reading through a few forum threads there's a feature called "assertive display" that is present on some Snapdragon SoCs- most notably the 800-series, 617, and 652 (as far as I've read).
What it does is adjust the gamma per pixel depending on outdoor brightness- that is, colors are getting brighter, not the actual backlight.
I found this zip here and flashed it (just a build prop tweak and cfg file). No issues but haven't really noticed a difference (it also isn't sunny right now on campus either ).
Apparently a specific config file should be calibrated for the display. There isn't much documentation out there so I was wondering if any of you more knowledgeable folk could cue me in (or even incorporate this in a custom ROM).

Used it on my zuk z1 since dev baked it into rom. Before I flashed it seperately, but didn't notice any improvements.

Bits and bobs...

I'm taking a week off work out in Russia's snowy countryside and have finally had the time to fiddle with some advanced settings available to the galaxy tab. Here are some foibles I've discovered. Also there are some issues that have been raised by people in the general section.
Consider this a reevaluation of my stickied review thread. I don't think any of these detract from the tab in any serious way - most actually improve it!
LCD density - I've had this set to 200 for the last three months, but always wanted to try out lower settings. Interestingly, setting it to 180 changes the stock phone icon to one that looks like a landline set. I can only assume that touchwiz must have been tested on lower density screens.
At 180 web pages are almost perfect in Fennec (I'm using the nightlies with opengl in fullscreen).
Camera - changing the LCD density made some mess out of the camera, especially wrecking the scrolling menus. The riticle gets stuck in the top 3rd of the screen. Also one still can't use both camera and music at the same time.
Saturation/ chroma - changing black and white density levels drastically lowers the battery life of the device for me. Color saturation above stock also has this effect. I'd be interested to know if others are seeing similar results.
Airplane mode - I've talked a lot about this in various threads, but many people would have missed it. In effect airplane mode dramatically increases battery life by physically switching off all the radios.
Services - I don't use the integrated Facebook app, so physically killing the sns service also seems to improve battery life and performance for me. I wonder, is it possible to remove Facebook entirely via titanium? Or would this mess with core functionality?
I also have no need for text to speech, but find that gtalk and tts seem to be unkillable. On my milestone removing either would lead to random fcs. Is this the case on the tab?

[Q] Any chance to get raw Bayer or at least non-denoised pictures?

Hi,
After briefly checking available camera parameters of the LG G2 (stock), I found this:
picture-format-values=jpeg,bayer-qcom-10gbrg,bayer-qcom-10grbg,bayer-qcom-10rggb,bayer-qcom-10bggr,bayer-mipi-10gbrg,bayer-mipi-10grbg,bayer-mipi-10rggb,bayer-mipi-10bggr,yuv422sp
So I've started to work on a small app that will get unprocessed images to process them later on. But I've faced the following issues:
None of the eight bayer modes give me any callbacks for "PictureCallback raw" and "PictureCallback jpeg".
Is there any chance to get the raw image from this device's camera? With root? Different rom / kernel?
In addition the camera's images are extremely blurred due to aggressive denoise. Since I prefer to clean the noise in photoshop later on, I would like to disable the denoise filter. Unfortunately, params.set("denoise", "denoise-off") does nothing...
Is there a way to disable it?
Thank! :fingers-crossed:
The denoise options you saw are just the standard android camera api...in fact, if you notice they already show as off! Which we know isn't the case LG ended up using their own (licensed) algo.
I tried to get the bayer modes to work a while back myself and met with no luck. I think the problem lies in the supplied driver. There are certainly keys for those modes, but not full driver support.
That said, I hope you succeed!

Thanks for your reply!
Regarding denoise - will it be different if I'll flash CyanogenMod? (Since it rewrites the kernel)
Maybe the filter strength is somewhere in the system files? So setting the filter strength to zero with a rooted phone?

If you're using the stock android/google camera that's included with CM, then it should be. I've reduced the denoising in normal photo mode on a mod to the stock camera/rom, but it didn't give me much granularity in controlling it, unfortunately. It would be nice if it had an integer value to pass to it, but it doesn't appear to.
WIth SlimKat, i was able to get a raw image, using YUV422SP.. The problem is that there isn't any YUV 4:2:2 Semi-Planar viewer or converter!!!
The raw image is 26MB vs 3,64MB the JPEG
With IrfanView, you can view the RAW, but since the app doesn't support 4:2:2 Semi-Planar import, the best image you can get is a grey scale BMP..
if you still need the Bayer data I managed to get all the supported raw sensor data
use this its setup for raw capture
www.mediafire.com/?4d723slsdlg3d1y
dissemble the apk
search for picture-format string open the one from the e.smali file
it will be in a method called PR
change locals to 4
then copy add const string v3 with desired picture format then replace v2 with v3 in the set invocation of Camera$Parameter. You need to change to change two more values and you're good to go next search for ".raw" you will find two one in addImage the Other in UpdateImage Method it will be in a.2.smali
change the const-string above equalsIgnoreCase to match the desired picture format in both addImage /updateImage methods Happy Snapping Tested on Zte Nubia Z5Sn with same sensor as G2

[Q] DPI and Screen Recording

Hi everyone, I was hoping someone might have the patience to explain to me what I'm doing wrong or if this is just a by-product of the nightly I'm using.
I'm running Beanstalk latest nightly for jflte, I own a USC S4. I've been trying to configure the Screen Recorder to show various functions/themes of a launcher, except when I play it back (I've only tried on the phone with various media players) I get this super imposed discolored fraction of my bottom screen over the top of my video. I can record well enough at lower resolution settings but I'd like to put the best quality I can.
Beanstalk gives me the option to use a custom LCD Density and I've ran through the mid 350's to 480. If I'm not mistaken the S4 DPI is suppose to be 441 at a resolution 1080x1920 but I can not seem to get that to work. I've also notice this issue with other ROMS that allow recording and I've actually had to stop using them because they don't have the option to change recording resolution, with BeanStalk I'm able to change the resolution so I'm able to record at least something.
I'll probably end up being a SCR app so I can bypass the whole problem but if someone could explain to me what I might be doing wrong that would be awesome.
Best Regards, Michael.

EPD Flashing frequency change

Can somebody pleasy help me out, I have just recieved my YP2 and I would really like to find a way to control the frequency of the flashing/full screen refresh on the e-ink display as you can do on most kindles. I would like to decrease this/make it as un-frequent as possible. I do understand it will cause ghosting issues.
All help will bbe greately appreciated
Help needed
there must be a simple way to disable the 'full screen refreash' on the EPD? I suffer from a very peculiar form of motion sickness when e-ink screens flash to black and thats why i couldnt use the early kindles.
If anybody can give me any guidance/advice in this regard it would be very helpfull.
Ive done al imited amount of playing about with linux based source codes and was able to fully disable the full screen refresh on my kindle when used as a vnc monitor. Can anybody tell me if this would be dont by playing around with the kernel source code for the yotaphone, or if there is an app that can do this function?
Regards
Things I can answer:
a - no such app exists yet (and given dev interest in this phone is minimal, by all appearances, it doesn't seem likely to be created. The phone is getting close to (if not already there) being low-spec comparatively, so further adoption of this phone by the masses seems unlikely. To me, that's a shame (I use a yp2 as a daily driver, but I keep other phones around as needed (for lte speed for video, proc intensive gaming, etc)))
b - while a sdk for the yp2 exists, it doesn't appear to address low-level epd function (which your request would seem to be). The kernel sources, at least of current date, have yet to be released; whether they ever will be is an open question. It's already difficult getting a large-scale manufacturer to release source, getting a small-scale shop like yota would be even harder for multiple reasons.
I'm sorry the epd in its current state isn't working for you; that's a shame.
(I was super excited by the project ara phone, since it seemed likely that someone would release an epd main screen at some point, so I could switch out between screens as the whim took me; the current plan for ara has dashed my hopes, c'est la vie. I still hold out hope for future epd-screened phones.)

There's no setting for modifying the full screen flash frequency. However, the older Kitkat flashed only when the content of the entire screen changed. The periodical screen flashing was introduced in the Lollipop update. So if you think that would be of any help, you could try downgrading to some older Kitkat.
a- that is a shame as i love the non reflective aspect of the e-ink screen, and it functions quite well for browsing/reading (apart form the refresh for me)
b- where can i find the sdk for this phone?
What is the 'ara phone' you are reffering to?

Thanks for the reply, was their a noticable difference between the frequency of the flash on kitkat and lollipop?
In order to change back to kitkat will it require me to root my YP2?

sdk: on yota's website, developer section (search term: 'yotaphone 2 sdk')
ara: google project, currently specced for release q4 this year, iirc. (search term: 'project ara')
EPD flashing frequency
Hi, I have a similar motion sickness problem. I just got a YP2 and was wondering if you ever figured out how to change the refresh/flashing of the EPD?
Alexey Zakharchenko might help he has produced several apps on the play store
yotaclock+ has a epd screen refresh
contact via play store or [email protected]
hope this helps

bluelight filter and system lag

Dear Xda,
This would be my first post after reviving my athene which was hardbricked caused due to a downgrade after installing the june update. Thanks alott people, you really saved me.
This post is regarding the ghost screen issue which I am facing on my xt1643 since the beginning. As I'm out of my warranty period I use the bluelight filter to handle the situation. But is it only me who thinks that the bluelight filer sucks more battery compared when not using it as well as it makes the device laggy in terms of general ui performance.
Correct me if I'm wrong and also suggestions are always welcome.
Thanks alott mates.
#xdarocks#dailyrituals#flashaholic
Don't use that blue light filter app, i do not know which rom are you currently using, but you can root your device and change the RGB values, normally the guys here with that problem set the 3 values (R,G,B) to 240.
You can do it from a kernel manager app, like EXManager (paid), Kernel Adiutor (free), etc, in the graphics section.
Too much low temp causes screen lag on stock 7.0, i think that is why the night light was dropped from 7.0.. try any 7.1 custom ROM, that should work fine with low temp..
