S Pen Hard Touch? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello uhmm I've just noticed something weird with my galaxy note 3 s-pen, the tip is not so sensitive unlike in my Note 1 and Note 4 S-Pens. What I mean is that it needs more pressure on the screen to be able to use it. I've tried using it on my note 4 but it really needs more pressure. Yeah it still works fine but it's just really annoying, I can't use it very well. Sorry for my bad english.

Hi, here is a link with video on You tube:
I try this tweak and working fine on my note 3.

Have you changed your pen tip .

N4 pen is much more sensitive then N3.

Stylus efficacy on Nexus 4.

Am used to using stylus on my smartphone (courtesy Samsung Galaxy Note ). If I buy a decent quality stylus, would it work on Nexus 4 as efficiently as , for example, S-Pen on Galaxy Note?
Nothing but an S-pen will work like an S-pen; no pressure sensitivity, no proximity detection. Other styli are just proxy fingers.

i figured. or else every phone would be a Note
couldn't this ability of the galaxy note be ported into the Nexus 4 like on a rom to make it be able to accept all of the features of the S-pen?

The S-Pen is a hardware feature. The Note has a second digitizer that detects the S-Pen touches.
I don't yet have a Nexus 4 but I have been researching this a lot and from the information I have found it appears as though the most accurate answer will be an Adonit Jot capacitive pen. I have one and while it is not perfect it does allow the most precision of where you place the tip of the pen. Due to the fact it uses a clear plastic disk that you can see through, instead of a fat finger or fat stylus. Also for taking handwritten notes on a phone I have realized that unlike a tablet you do not need to worry about palm rejection. As you can easily rest your hand on the fingers of the hand holding the phone and not touch the screen while writing.

How to Adjust Your Samsung Galaxy Note's S-Pen Sensitivity for Better Touch Response

Got this Info from Google
Touchscreens are all the rage these days, and it seems that the stylus has become a relic of the past thanks to newer and better fingertip responsive smartphone displays. But when it comes to phablets like Samsung's Galaxy Note line, the added S-Pen is definitely helpful for more accurate and precise actions (and a less greasy screen).
Of course, there are disadvantages of using an S-Pen too, one being hardware issues. Unlike your finger, the S-Pen can malfunction and become a huge problem, not giving you that precision it once used to. So, if you're having problems with choppiness, light touches, or having to press hard for your pen to register, you can...
Smack It
I am a firm believer of the "if you hit it, it shall work," theory of the mid-80s. If you hit any malfunctioning device with just the right amount of force and anger, its usually fixes the problem. And that goes for the Note's S-Pen, as well.
Take the S-Pen, and slam it decently hard on a flat surface. It's that simple. Now if that doesn't work, you can take a more technically and less-forceful route to help fine tune your Samsung S-Pen...
Adjust the Potentiometer
The potentiometer is an electro-mechanical transducer that converts the movement of your stylus into electrical resistance (or something like that). Basically it's what makes your stylus work with your screen.
And guess what?
You can open up your S-Pen and adjust the meter yourself, no matter what S-Pen it is.
This will work for the Samsung Galaxy Note's, Galaxy Note II's, and Galaxy Note 10.1's S-Pen—or pretty much any other stylus with a button. This will not work on any regular conductive styluses without buttons.
You will need to take off the click button on the body of the S-Pen. You can just pop it off with a razor. And don't worry—it can be put back into place without a problem.
Once this button is off, you will have access to the potentiometer.
The potentiometer on the LEFT in the picture above and below is the one you will be adjusting.
Using a razor or small screwdriver, you can turn the potentiometer clockwise to decrease sensitivity and counter-clockwise to increase it. Test it out and see if it works to your liking, then put the button back on.
This tip could also work with a bunch of other styli with buttons, not just the Samsung branded versions, but will not work on regular conductive styli, since all that they do is simulate your fingertip.
how about potention meter in the right?
What is it function?

Interesting Tweak:good:
Thanks for this! I tested it and this has improved the pen sensitivity... though there's still lag. And according to Andreilux this has something to do with the binary of the rom. I hope developers will work out some calibration tool for the wacom drivers. I created a thread yesterday.

These two pots look like they are in series here, which would probably make them Coarse (Left) and Fine (Right) Adjustment. However has anyone thrown a multi-meter on this to read the resistances?
Thank you so much for sharing this!
Note 3 Neo
Confirmed working on the Note 3 Neo.
Thanks.
thanks for the info ~~

Opinions on s pen

Hi guys. I have just picked up my note 3. Have come from a note 2 with hd revolution
My question is, especially to anyone coming from a note 2, do you find that the stylus isnt as sensitive as it should be. I find myself having to make a conscious effort to apply pressure rather than being able to really rely on just the capacative connection for the pen to register with the phone.
Also, how much ram is showing on peoples phone? Mine shows 2.38gb. Thats a long way off 3gb
You can adjust the spen sensitivity with the little screws under the button

Spen not so unique after all

Hello so today i realized that a digitizer pen from a lenovo thinkpad yoga 12 actually works exactly as an spen on our note device.
You may wonder why is this important well the lenovo thinkpad pen is just a regular digitizer pen. So im guessing that ANY digitizer pen will work with our device. In case anyone is looking for a bigger or heavier pen. Try searching digitizer pen...
Here is a video. Sorry for the quality i filmed it on the thinkpad and i accidentally covered the mic but it just shows that it has the same functions as samsung spen

i've tried my N3 S-Pen when I first got my N5. it doesn't work as well. it seems more sensitive to the N5 S-Pen and is more precise - I can draw more finer lines.
how's your thinkpad pen with it?

It's not a guess, it's true. Samsung licenses Wacom technology for the Note-series. But there's a big but. People who've used Wacom branded stylus' with the Note have had offset issues. Something's different with the Note 5's digitizer and/or stylus too. The two full-size Samsung S Pens I have aren't nearly as sensitive on the Note 5 as they are on my Note 12 and were on my Note 4. They're no where near as sensitive as the included stylus either. In theory any active stylus should work on the Note(s) but in practice that's not the case. So if you're experimenting buy from some place with a liberal return policy.
Wacom stylus & digitizers over LCD screens are a lot older than the Galaxy Note series.

My note 3 s pen seemed identical in using to draw on the note 5 screen...
Used my Surface Pro 3 Pen on the N5 as well as the other way around with the same experience on both devices.
I do agree that is not as sensitive. I had to put a slight force in order to work sometimes.

This isn't a new discovery, expecially if you have been with the note line since the OG Note.

The spen dont work. How i know if is the spen that is not working or the sensor ?

I bought a galaxy note 4 used on ebay, the spen was like a little pice of the pen tip was cuted . the spen didnt write in the phone, even when i put it back or extract the phone doesnt recognize it. My question is if the sensor of the phone is dead or the spen or both. I dont have any friend with a note to test the spen
