It's only a month from when last year the axon 7 was announced. Doing some Internet searching doesn't bring up anything as yet.
Does anyone know if we are to get an Axon 8 shorty?
@front firing speakers
Probably because it isn't gonna be called axon 8, but axon gigabit

There was a prototype exhibition of a gigabit phone, but I'm not sure if this is really a flagship for this year. Most articles acknowledge that this is more of just a concept showing ZTE has the tech in development rather than a concrete flagship for this year. Currently it seems like ZTE has not announced anything new for the Axon line this year. Maybe it will be announced later? Or they're just going to focus on refining the Axon 7 for some time?

Besides they were clear that it was only a prototype and a specific model using this technology would be available until next year.
I think eventually will see successor guess within next 1-3 months it's reasonable time being.

I'm sure we'll be hearing something very soon.
I won't be upgrading from my Axon 7 for at least another year, but when I do upgrade, I hope that ZTE puts up a fight for my money.

I think that ZTE is not releasing anything this year, or at least not until the end of year. By now all the specs were leaked last year and May was the date to release the Axon 7, so I highly doubt they are working on something else, or they have it really hidden.
Another thing is that they are still putting all the effort into the Axon 7, which is a good sign that they plan to continue to have this device as the company's flagship for the moment.
That's what I thought and basis for my question. Do rumours yet looks like no phone

Actually I just read somewhere, maybe on xda that when someone asked why the axon max(6gb ram 128gb storage version of axon 7) was no longer being sold and apparently the rep told them that they were working on a new phone that would be ready by the summer so they had stopped production of the axon max. I don't know how much weight that statement holds but definitely something to keep an eye out for.
Since will see oneplus 5 within 2 months guess ZTE wouldn't want to miss the party and let onleplus to play by its own on that 400-450 price segment category.

* Especially since the OnePlus 3 hardware specs this last year were not even comparable to the ZTE Axon 7 -- no 1440p AMOLED, no award winning DAC, no front-facing speakers, no BMW-designed frame. That first spec -- 1440p -- is what separates the serious players from juveniles in my mind. I've had 1440p AMOLED since 2014, and I'm not downgrading back to 1080p. OnePlus 3T (end of year update) was better, but still no 1440p AMOLED.
Yes, I can see a difference. If you want 1080p, there's a 100 companies selling 5.5" 1080p generic slabs. Go get one -- just don't tell me there's no difference. All the major players -- LG, Samsung, Motorola, HTC, Sony, Huawei, Google, etc offer 1440p. Whereas every "budget" Chinse company offers 5.5" 1080p slabs. Dime a dozen as they say.
This year, allegedly OnePlus will finally offer 1440p AMOLED with their OnePlus 5, so we'll see.
* If ZTE had offered Qi wireless if the Axon 7, I would have bought 3 of them. Qi wireless is more important to me than "all metal". I put cases on my phones anyway. Put glass or ceramic back on the phone so we can have Qi wireless.
As for "improvements"? Besides Qi wireless, ZTE Axon 8 needs a BIGGER battery. 3250 mAh is not enough. I have a 3900 mAh battery on my 5.2" 1440p AMOLED Moto XT1225. This phone needs AT LEAST 4,000 mAh. Nobody is begging for credit card thin phones. Everybody wants a BIGGER battery.
Also, add backlighting to the capacitive buttons -- and space them wider apart.
* ZTE Axon 8 is probably going to be delayed from last year's Axon 7 launch date due to the shortage of Snapdragon 835 chips. That's why LG went with the Snapdragon 821 -- because otherwise they would be waiting until summer to launch their phone.
ZTE Axon 8 will be one of the five phones I'm watching in the 2nd half of 2017, to replace my Moto XT1225:

I'm planning on buying a new smartphone Q4 2017.
I'm hoping there will be a ZTE Axon 8, so I can then weigh up against OnePlus 4/5 and Huawei Honor 9.
My understanding is that the ZTE Axon 7 is an excellent phone, so things are looking good.
For those of you not looking to upgrade from your Axon 7s, let hope the Axon 9 will be a beast (if you plan to upgrade after 24 month period).

Me too have top priority Axon 8 but meanwhile I will try Galaxy S8 while keeping current Axon 7.
As for what I want is AOD feature, improved camera performance(low light and video recording witch struggling right now) and if ZTE keep current form factor I would prefer bottom navigation button to be backlight
Also LED notification support more color than just red or green as today.
Of course keeping all the positive deliver today.

That's the Axon 7S, but maybe they will launch it as Axon 8 on international market.
Let's see, because is not kind of big improvement over the actual Axon 7.

Actually, read again:
"This handset is extremely similar to the ZTE Axon 7s which was announced quite recently"
As I said, it seems they just renamed it for global market, and wouldn't be the first time a company does this. Is sad, because I was expecting kind of better design and larger battery, because everything else is good enough already. Still I appreciate they kept the speakers.

ZTE Axon 9. Likely to be announced in October. Yes, they are skipping over 8 and going straight to 9..
All my information is from an XDA member who participated in a focus group in Germany, and he relayed what ZTE managers told him.
