[Q] Android OS takes 7GB? What is going on with X Play - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've got my wife's X Play XT1625 running 6.0.1. I would expect maybe ~3GB reserved for system partition out of 16Gb, for such a barebones (clean) android rom. But on X Play, its whole 7 GB, leaving only about 9GB for user. Is this normal? Is this with everyphone or just mine?
Is it possible to reclaim more of that space? (root, custom rom?) Have anyone tried that?

[Q] Internal Storage - Moving from TW to GE 4.3

Hi guys,
I've not been able to find a definitive answer on this so thought I'd throw it out there for you all to feast on. We all know the useable internal storage available on a TW S4 is circa 9GB. I've recently flashed a stock GE rom, but I still seem to have the same storage available. The vanilla rom is over 1GB smaller, so should that extra storage be available to me? e.g circa 10gb useable storage available? Will I need to wipe the entire internal storage before flashing the rom?
Thanks

When you flash a new rom, its build size does not affect the size of the partition. That is, Samsung has partitioned the internal hard drive and flashing a new rom does not re partition it. Hence no change in the available space.
There is another thread regarding this in the General Section, here is the link.

Storage LG 2 after custom rom

Hello all,
I am not familiar with LG flashing.
Does a custom rom free up more internal storage on the phone?
If yes, only on AOSP/AOKP/MIUI roms or also on stripped stock roms?
I have a 16GB model with only 10GB available and it's almost 50% full with only some apps :s :silly:
No. Partitions stay the way they are. You might get some space on /system.
Thanks @Robogo i finally find the answer of this question !
So it will not increase to 12gb full use or smth?
Anyone care to make a screenshot?
Thx

Android OS space on stock ROM

Hey guys,
I was looking at my device storage this morning to find out that Android OS takes a little over 7gb, is that normal?
I have a north american G4 + 32gb (XT1641) running stock 6.0.1.
See attached screenshot to know what I mean

10 GBs Space missing on MotoX Pure

Hello.
I have a moto x pure running android 6.0 bootloader unlocked and rooted with TWRP recovery.
I keep encountering a problem with my internal storage there are 10 GBs of space missing. I need to wipe my data and reset the phone every couple of months for this issue any idea what's causing it and if there is any soulution other than wipe the device. Attached are some screenshots of the issue with the device info
Same thing was happening to mine and I didn't have a solution. I recently installed a new rom and the data went away, however I never actually found a proper solution. I had 13 GBs taken up by 'system' for seemingly no reason on the stock rom. Sorry I couldn't be more help, just reporting that you are not alone.

Unfortunately I can't suggest anything, I was using this phone from stock since I got it. I just now started to install roms on this device so I don't know all of the options yet. However some people state that LineageOS has the 'chop chop' to turn on the flashlight. However the 'wave your hand over the screen for it to turn on' feature is missing on my rom (crDroid) and I assume any rom that is not stock. I believe that most custom AOSP roms will not include most moto features. You should look for roms that are build off of stock, they will contain all the features of the stock rom as well as 'custom' features from AOSP roms.
Edit: After looking through the roms for this device, it looks like this is the go-to 'stock' custom rom TruPureX If you want all the moto features, but still want extra stuff, this looks like it would be the best bet.
I can't see any problem on the screenshots...
You have
7,94 gb Android OS
5,20 gb Apps
6,75 gb Images
0,95 gb Audio
1,67 gb Other
That summed up gives 22,51 gb off the internal memory
The device shows 22,90 gb used, the 390mb left is caused on cache/dalvik-cache/odex stuff i did not add there
Forget about what i told you, i was wrong on adding the Android OS :silly:
I've never had this problem, mine is working properly (or not, since it shows less than the total sum)

Is Maschmallow much slower than Lollipop?

Hello. I've learned about not making updates with my moto x play (after 7.1 OTA phone slowed down enough to be unuseable). So with moto x force I'm on 5.1. Phone is slowing every year, but still able to use it. I've read about many performacne complains with 7.1. Is it the same with 6.0?
I need to have custom dpi OS supported mode, not included in lollipop. Is it worth to make OTA?
