Thanks alot

A5 (2016) is great. I've been having it for about 5 months and it just doesn't fail. It's the perfect phone if you don't want to spend a lot of cash on a phone but at the same time want something that will last, work smoothly and physically look nice. Great choice. IMO, the A7 2016 is a better choice if you enjoy a larger display (plus it has 3GB of RAM compared to the 2GB that the A5 2016 has).

Thanks a ton for sharing ur experience...

I'm using this device from march 2016 and it's a great phone i don't have bugs or problems and the os run really good (I don't use it for game) now we are waiting for nougat 7.0 . The battey it's good too and the charge it's very quick (fast charge mode with stock adapter). It's a great phone for this price if you want something better you have to spend more .

It's a good solid phone however its very fragile boke my screen twice in the front pocket and even with a case broke my rear glass too.

I don't think there will be any active version for this one. Usually active version comes out only for S series. Although S6 Edge+ looks like S series but its pretty much a Note 5 without the stylus and added edge...
The 128 GB version that was speculated earlier was confirmed to be incorrect. Even the dual sim version doesn't support any kind of SD Cards. Personally, I don't think they are going to release any 128 gig variant before March (S7 release) or the folks who invested in 64 gigs grudgingly would go mad!
Also, Note 5 is definitely an upgrade over Note 4. Ofcourse there are drawbacks, however, performance is way better with its new SOC, RAM and UFS.20. Its just that, may be spending $900 isn't worth the upgrade if you're on Note 4 or above.
Hope that helps:good:

I actually disagree. It depends what you prefer and what your needs are obviously, but I've noticed a nice upgrade over my regular S6. Granted it wasn't an Edge, but those phones were the same other than the curved glass and 50mah in battery capacity.
I brought up preference because I prefer larger screens but never used the S-Pen on the Note series and I didn't want all that extra software installed. So this oversized S series phone fit the bill perfectly.
As for tangible upgrades that I've noticed right away is the phone is faster than my S6 and the battery life is MUCH better. I know it's the same cpu (soc), but I'm guessing the extra GB of ram and more software tweaks must have helped. Because it's noticeable to me. And the 3,000mah battery with more tweaks did the trick. I've noticed a large increase in battery life.
All in all, it was a very nice upgrade. Not to mention that this gold platinum color is easily the best color I have ever seen on a smartphone. This phone is absolutely stunning.
Those are just my opinions and thoughts.

I know its about preferences. I was actually assuming that if the person bought S6 Edge, he might be okay with 5 inch display aswell (unlike some of us ). Also, the battery life improved for sure since the battery capacity has increased but the screen resolution is same. And there is DDR4 RAM which uses significantly less power. Same goes for the new screen which is like 32% more power efficient than the previous one. I was just suggesting bcoz he just bought a phone like 5 months back and if he waits for another 7, he might get a better version of all this (since he doesn't mind the smaller display)... :cyclops: All in all, I know Sammy made a significant progress with the new flagships and I've already put my money on that...

I'm disappointed about the lack of IR blaster.
Of course my Nexus 6 doesn't have it either.
The N6 feels like a big slab in my hand.
The 6E+ OTOH, does not!
Very comfortable and I got used to it in a few minutes.
After an hour I picked up my S6 Edge and it felt TINY like picking up and iphone 5S after using a 6+!
I have an otterbox symmetry, don't care for it. Doesn't wrap the phone and feel like part of the phone like the one on my S6 Edge. And the power button is hard to push, like I have to squeeze the hell out of it. Should not be like that, the Symmetry is supposed to be thinner like Speck-ish thin or similar.
Can't wait for Diztronic. They're my favorite thin TPU!

Nop. That was clarified later as rumour. Besides, if they come out now with something like that, the ones who bought the phone with 64 gigs and wanted bigger memory will go on rampage!

Jumping from the S5 over to the Note 4 worth it ?

like the title says, i am currently owning the Galaxy S5 , my question is ,
is the Note 4 worth getting when i have a s5 ? i would like to experience the Note phone as i never had one before and i like the spen thingie looks cool.
did anyone here had a s5 and jumped to the Note 4 ?
i dont really want to get the S6 nor the Note 5 mainly due to no Removable back for battery swapping and the use of msd.
yesterday i had sell my s5 for a note 4! it is really better for performance battery camera everything! for me is it a good option!!!

awesome thanks, but how much extra did you pay on top of it ? i think if i sell my s5 in the city here i would barely get 200$ for trade in and would need to pay about 250$ for getting the note 4.
my biggest question is the screen bro,
how is the screen in your eyes??? i saw the note 4 screen from a friend and i didnt like it like MY eyes hurt from looking at it , as it is a QHD display will you get used to it ?? its sooo sharp ,
thanks for the feedback
I sold together with the gear neo 2 so I did not pay anything. an affair!
the screen is much larger of s5, MUCH! and everything is very clear ..sharp! the best display for me. the brightness is very high, to not have problems I keep it to less than half !! if you can buy it!
the memory is 32 gb ..i have 32 micro sd therefore at the top with removably battery!

nice , i am thinking of getting the 910F variant so i can have CM installed on it
thanks for the feedback, so in your opinion it is defintely worth it and it is much better than the s5 in everything ?:fingers-crossed:
I've had s5 for a year and I think it is much better. pictures at night for example are really the best.It is reactive with the TouchWiz !!! good buy!
ps i have 910F european version!
I didn't have an S5 but I did upgrade from a Note 3 to the Note 4.
In my opinion the Note 4 is a fantastic phone- the camera is superb and the screen is face-meltingly awesome.
However, just it can be laggy at times- I'm pretty sure it's a common issue amongst Note 4 users (I have lag and I'm running SimplRom- which in my experience gives the smallest amount of lag in comparison to other custom ROMs I've tried).
The battery life is pretty good too.
Personally I'd make the upgrade but just be warned- there is a fair amount of lag.
Perhaps have a look at review videos etc on YouTube? There's bound to be a comparison video somewhere.
Good luck!

and i think you should try CyanogenMod if you own a QualComm Note, the n910f < CM will give you zero lags bro , TW lag is in every Samsung phone XD

Hmm, difference in performance from your S5 to a SD Note 4 will be very minor. Specially because the display has a higher resolution.
Quite frankly, official 5.1.1 by Sammy is looking glorious. Phone is so ridiculously fast that I find myself playing of opening and closing apps.
I used CM variants at my S3 for 2~3 years straight, but apart from the cleaner look I honestly don't miss anything about it.
If you're dead set on using CM then the 910F is going to achieve daily driver level much sooner, but the 910C is a better device.

i see.. well i like CM alot, i had the Exynos S5 900h and i swapped it with a QualComm 900f, i really dont want to do that again, since the 910c is a Exynos based model, i think there isnt much of a difference personally.. cause i know this from owning the exynos/qualcomm based s5's.
how much do you like the Note 4 ? is it a very fun phone , like more fun than the smaller displays e.g s3/s4/s5 etc. the ones ranging from 4.7'' - 5'' etc. ?
oh and one more thing, how long will it take me to get used to the sharpness of the n4 screen ? the qhd is the thing that hurts my eyes, when i looked at the one from my relative his n4 hurt my eyes, it is non fake , he has the 910h < exynos one.
will my eyes adapt to the huge sharp screen in a matter of days ?

s7Edge to replace?

As a s7Edge user for more than 1 year, I want to replace my phone with 2017 device. I am really between G6 and S8. I want to continue with oled S8 with deep black which i always use black themes but problems when i read about user reviews push me to the G6 but again with the bad selfie cam and old 821 makes me start over thinking. As a huge number of s7 edge user i want to get your ideas... Probably continuing with s7Edge is less risky (sorry for bad English)
Wait for Note 8.
Few months and is out.

Definitely agree with the battery life about s7edge but i believe s8 will get better because like s7edge ig recognises your used apps and freeze not used ones. With efficient cpu i think it they will be the same

Hello folks.
I'm looking to replace my current cell phone. It needs to be an unlocked CDMA (Sprint) phone. Things that are important to me:
high quality screen
processing power
decent storage
Things that aren't that important to me:
camera
I have a price limit of $150. Given the above, I am looking at:
Moto E4
Galaxy S5 (refurbished)
Galaxy J3 Emerge
Moto G4 Play
All of them have 5" screens, but the S5 has the highest resolution (the rest are 1280x720). The S5 also has the highest clock rate.
My concern is that the S5 is using technology from 4 years ago, while the rest are more recent. Should that be a concern, or is the S5 the best option here?
Thanks!

in my opinion, for this expense and one of the best!
I use a Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo and everything works fine.
2 weeks ago there was an update for the S5 over OTA. It is still alive and good.
In USA the normal S5 is still a smartphone that is one of the bestsellers.
I have no need to get another phone.
And the original S5 is better than my neo.
Gesendet von meinem SM-G903F mit Tapatalk
I would go with the S5...
Amoled screen, wireless charging, fingerscan...16mp cam..
Put LOS or RR and youll get the best deal...
Or try a xiaomi mia1
Hello, had a galaxy s5 for around 3 years. My unit had a bit of a network issue, which sullied my experience, so be careful when buying a refurb!
Also, if processing power is important to you, you should note that it has constant slowdowns/stutters and, though not as often, crashes. It also heats up pretty quick and has mediocre battery life, draining pretty fast with any decent usage. The chipset really does not hold up compared to mid range chipsets now imo. Near the time I upgraded, it became nearly unusable for a bit whenever i turned the wifi on, though a factory reset and a sparser app library has alleviated the worst aspects of using the phone. It might be powerful specwise, but in irl use I find newer midrange chips outperform it in day to day use.
I recently upgraded to a redmi note 5 (china) and it was an upgrade in every way. From build to smoothness to battery life (and both cameras but you don't care about that). It also has the 6' display while retaining the same width as my s5, thanks to the 18:9 display. The aspect ratio is great in all apps that aren't games and in general UI use. It also has oreo out of the box and will get updates in the future, unlike the s5.
The redmi 5 plus(china) could also be a replacement that's cheaper, but I can't vouch for the screen on that one. The redmi note 5 has a bright lcd that looks really good. It's not amoled, but the transition hasn't bothered me at all, it's quite excellent! I've gotten compliments on the screen from many friends who have seen it in person as well.
So, yeah, look into the phone and see if your budget can be adjusted. Shoot for the 3/32 GB which is a steal imo. Oh, and it has a micro sd card slot, just like the s5, so storage won't be an issue. Another plus with these phones is that they actually have a fingerprint scanner that's not trash - another thing from the past that does not hold up.
I looked up the prices for these phones and they seem to be out of the 150$ budget, so, if the budget is rigid you might want to look into the redmi note 4, which can be found for 160$ and has all the same internals as the redmi 5 plus. I cannot vouch for how good the screen is, but it's 1080P IPS LCD. I would personally consider it a better phone to buy than the Galaxy S5 as well (working fingerprint scanner, larger screen, equivalent if not better chipset usability wise).
Anyway, I'm not really as knowledgable as most people in xda but I am a s5 owner, so I figured I'd chip in and try to help.
While S5 is still a nice phone, it is not worth buying one at this time. The best option would be to get current/last year mid end phone. Look at the local market websites, maybe there are good deals. Xiaomi redmi 5 plus is nice phone for low price, also redmi note 4 is nice phone too, you will get better peformance than S5, or at very least the same, more ram, much better battery life due to bigger battery and better chipset, you will get android updates.
S5 is still a great phone.. Do not buy refurbished.. you can find great deals on Ebay.. My cost $110 no dings, or dents or scratches.. Phone actually had very little call time on it.. Moto's IMOP are junk.
Hi ,
I personally think you should go for a newer phone like Honor 8. The main problem i would have with an S5 is the fact that it only has 16GB internal memory. Apart from that it is still a great phone.
With those 16 GB you will always struggle if you want to install many applications and keep Whatsapp data on your phone.

It does support SD Cards up to 128 GB though. I'm a kinda heavy user and never had problems with storage, always around 3-4 GB free in internal. Though I did put my games on my card obviosly (there was some app that does this, I forgot name).
i picked mine up monday for 45$. cracked rear camera glass. still takes photos fine.
anyway, i love the thing. i went from an s7 to an iphone 7 then to and old moto then to this. i love the effing thing. i get 2 days in low power mode with the original battery. im hunting for a parts phone now.
the s5 has issues from what ive heard but so far, im running fine.
After 2 weeks using the S5 of my wife I have to reverse my opinion. I installed latest lineageos 14.1 on it and it works like a charm. With lineageos there is still a lot of internal memory left for apps. Bluetooth which is often a problem for custom roms seems to work pretty well.
I've actually recently bought an S5, and although it is not the best option, the support for it has been huge over time and its still going on with amazing roms like AEX or CrDroid.
The only part I dislike is the storage, because yea 16GB are little to me. And the fact that it is refurbished is good contrary to what people assume, because, then that means its already fixed, you wont have to go through that pain as you would with a new one waiting to fail, that's how it is, you have more chances of a new one having issues than a refurbished one because that one already had them and its already fixed. On the other hand, "refurbished" doesnt always mean "it broke and we fixed it", usually its because people return it to the store, the package is open, they cant sell them as new, even if theres nothing wrong with it, it automatically falls to the "refurbished" category and not many people think of that.
Now, the Moto G4 is actually a better option, it has a good performance, but you should opt for the Plus version with 32GB internal
So, I'd recommend the G4 Plus, if you cant buy that, then the S5 is the way to go
S5 is still going strong.
I would not change it, but I need a dual SIM phone now.
So if you can get one, go for it.
However, I am not aware of CDMA capabilities or tested it, sorry. I have European model...
My uncle gave me his old S5 back in January to replace my dying S4 LTE-A, and with LineageOS 15.1, it feels like a brand new phone
im now rooted and running the latest lineage 14.1 and its awesome.
12 hours of battery, 4 hours of SOT and no issues. these nougat kernels are pretty nice. lol
people talking about storage, flash Lineage, have a clean sd card in and use the SD card as adptive storage. it shows it as all internal storage and works like a charm.

would you recommend the S5 as a backup to the Note 4?
I still have an S5 as a backup phone. Main phone Xiaomei Redmi Note 4x which I bought due to its superior battery life. The S5 imo is still good as backup phone and has an excellent camera (if you stick to TouchWiz based roms).

Hello!
I can definately assure you that:
A. Off the phones you have listed AND
B. Your stated price range
The S5 is your choice!!
It is amazing!! You will not be dissapointed! Unlimited battery life (multiple batteries), screen resolution, clock speed etc etc.
I am currently typing from one! Lol, I have the OnePlus 3 and my good ol' trusty S5! Some tips:
You stated about being older firmware (S5 is marshmallow) whilst others are nougat..... The S5 is one of the most developed phones ever! even still!!! In literally 5 minutes and little knowledge you can flash a custom recovery and then a custom ROM, no root needed. I have used the S5 since the early days and have used pretty much EVERY rom, honestly!
I can suggest resurrection remix as THE most customisable, they have features beyond any other! They have 100% stable nougat build and Oreo also, I use them both. In fact we have multiboot so can run 2 ROMs at once just choose at boot!
We have lots of kernels if you choose to root like myself, this way you can have 2.1 amp quick charge, boot windows or Linux on PC from phone, double battery time, gaming performance and over clocking to 2.84 GHz!!!! The phone is a beast!! It is reliable as hell too! I have had mine rooted for 4 years, overclocked and its given me no worries....And waterproof with a removable battery!!!!!!
Hope this helps, any questions at all please ask, happy to help

Does it get Samsung Experiance in any Samsung Update?
(no rooting no custom romming)
PLEASE HELP me dear XDA Users, please respond with whatever thing comes to Your mind!
It already has Samsung Experience 8.0 but it won't get
any update so it won't look as good as S8. Actually, if I had an S8, I wouldn't return it and buy S6 edge+ instead. But if you want to do so, you can. But if you play heavy games or do resorce intense things you should stay on S8. Even S6 edge+'s hardware still good, it is getting older and it can be not enough anymore. After all, this is your decision. Do what you want.

Is the same with even with S7? Would You tell me that?
The S6+ is a beautiful phone. I cannot lie. It is very well made and everything works well.
I have the S8+ and honestly - I would keep the S8 if I were you.
One thing only.... battery.
The S6+ is terrible on battery life, no two ways about it.
Otherwise it's probably the best phone Samsung made (outside of the Note 4).
The metal ring is sheer class and the machining is very fine.
It's slim and it's beautiful - I take it out and just look at it sometimes.
At home it's the first phone I reach for. But the S8+ is just a little more capable.
S6 Edge+ had the best Samsung camera IMHO.
When they have an F1.2 with 16MP sensor it will be top of the hill.

I have not bothered past s7 yet, but i love my s6. Currently it is on android 9.0 Pie beta

Sm-g928w8. It has hardware similar to the S7 and the same four gigs of ram. I've got the kernel and device tree, and proprietary blovs

Thank You.
Can You help me out in such a wierd thing: I have S8.... but people in my country are still buying S7(E) like crazy. Maybe they are afraid of the no-bezel and infinity display. I have a problem with S8: due to the lack of borders (bezeles) the hand that is hoding the phone while the other is typing a SMS text message for example the holding hand sometimes touches the screen and puts a letter inside a word or turns on or off some kind of a function.
I got this idea of selling S8 an buying a new S7 flat to not have this problem. What do you PERSONALY/INDIVIDUALY think of this?
Please answer, I will not be angry or any sort of bad emotions.
