I can get 3g in USA!

OK, maybe this was a glitch, but while I was in another town today, my HD showed it had a 3g connection for about 5 minutes, instead of edge. I thought this wasn't possible?

All this morning at home I had the G icon as well. No H. I assume its a glitch because I did not get the change to send and receive data to test it. The phone would drop back to EDGE.

the G stands for GPRS (slower than EDGE) for 3G you must see 3G in the display

Oh. Well, poop. The other weird thing that happened was that my HD then told me my voicemail was not configured and I had to re-enter it on the phone. Must have changed networks temporarily.

Forcing G1 to Roam

I'm going camping this coming weekend to a place in the mountains that tmobile has very poor coverage in. I was there last month and discovered my friends at&t phone had full service while my g1 showed service, just didn't show any bars and other times only showed one bar. Calls with my phone were flacky and dropped out, his worked perfectly. Is there a way to make my phone switch to roaming on at&t?
I have a national plan on T-Mobile.
I'm running Cyanogen 3.9.5

Should do it automatically. I saw my phone do this the other weekend when I was travelin. My phone showed ATT, Corr Wireless, and some other service and certain points.

The tmobile signal is just strong enough to keep it from roaming there. I was hoping it would switch automatically but it never did. I know the phone does have roaming ability, i've seen it switch to roam and work fine.

I would assume then just change your APN settings.

you can try manual operator selection, by going Settings > Wireless Controls > Mobile Network Settings > Network Operators > Search Networks then select whatever network you want to use

Hi.. I'm using CyanogenMod 3.6.8.1 on my HTC Dream and I've got the same issues with roaming. I've travelled to 3 countries last month and I had issues with connecting to GSM network.. There was error message that my sim card cannot work with specific networks.. I've tried to use auto connection and I've tried also to connect manually to specific networks, but with the same result. I've tried also rebooting and removing the battery... Problem disappeared after few hours... I had this issue in Austria, Hungary and Turkey so it's not operator/country specific. Problems doesn't exist on different cell phone (Nokia). Everything works fine after powering on the phone.

3G connection issues

I'm having random 3G connection issues on my Samsung Focus.
At radndom times 3G connection is lost and the only way to get it working is to turn off and on the phone.
I tried putting the phone into airplane mode, turn off/on data, turn 3G off/on, nothing works, only a reboot works.
Today I checked my email on my phone and it says;

We're having a problem connection to exchange.xxx.com. Try again later.
Last tried 2 seconds ago
Error code: 80072FA8
This error shows up on all 3 emails I have setup.
IE doesn't work, Zune, any app requiring 3G connection.
And this happens at random times, at least once a day.
The phone has the lastest updates and is jailbroken.
One other thing to mention is, the phone is now having the 3G connection issue but i have it theathering to my computer and the internet connection is working while theathered, cause i'm posting this email.
I have no idea what's happening or how to fix it.

Mine is unlocked AT&T Focus, when I'm using indosat (IM3) carrier, I'm having this issue. I downloaded Network Profile from Samsung Zone. After reboot the device, the network profile still pick AT&T, and I can't change it to my carrier.
Then I tried change my carrier to 3, after reboot the phone, the network profile changed to 3 INA. And after that I haven't got that issue till now.
Not sure what caused this. But when I looked at the registry there's a bunch of duplicated APN settings.

I had a similar issue, Focus AT&T on EU network.
Chevron unlocked and enabled the 3G toggle.
From time to time, I couldn't download from Marketplace or use the 3G connection. That was before I updated to NoDo. I haven't experienced this again since I updated.
To fix that, I used to toggle 3G off and on again after 15-30 seconds.
Sometimes, even that didn't work and I had to leave 3G off. Any lower data connection was working while 3G wasn't.
Speaking of data connection, not everyone is aware that after updating to NoDo, HSUPA is disabled on AT&T.

I'm having the same issue.
I´m using an unlocked at&t samsung focus at my local carrier.
I have this issue a few times a day, and the only way to restore my internet connection is rebooting.
I have noticed that this happens when my phone changes to Edge and goes back to 3G again. The issue doesn't seems to happen every time, but sometimes I lost connection.
Did you managed to solve this?

I was having the same issue, being unable to connect to 3G. Just go the first page after Googling: set att apn. AT&T users should put in the APN, username and password. Hope it helps! It worked for me. =D

Radio (signal/data) has stopped working and poor wi-fi performance

Phone is working great. It was initially rooted with Visionary+, then with the gfree method. I've tired lots of different ROMS and kernels. I get 3-4 bars consistently at my house, and I get 4-5mb downloads.
Late June 2011 to Late July 2011
Annual, four-week trip to visit the in-laws in Sweden. My T-Mobile SIM card worked while roaming (and have data turned off), Wi-Fi calling works great. Phone is unlocked, so I used both our PAYG phone SIM card (through Telenor) as well as a PAYG data SIM card (through Telia). Both worked great.
However, closer towards the end of the trip, I noticed that whenever I had my T-Mobile SIM card installed, it wouldn't pick up a roaming signal (only wifi), and Wi-Fi calling was iffy at best even next to the wireless router. However, the PAYG data SIM card worked great throughout the whole trip, so I didn't think much about it.
On the final day in Stockholm, I realized that I left my T-Mobile SIM card back at the in-laws house. I would just get a new one when I get back.
Present Day
On Wednesday (7/27), I go to the T-Mobile store, and I get a new SIM card. I turn the phone on, I receive a few text messages immediately, deem it good and leave. However, while driving home, I notice that I can't make any phone calls. That is because I have 0 bars (but it is not x'd out). I also have zero indication of data (not even E).
When I rebooted the phone, I will get 1 bar starting out (and I can receive text messages during that time), but then it drops back to 0 bars after about a minute. As soon as I got home, it picked up the wi-fi signal, enabled wi-fi calling, and I got the "Welcome to T-Mobile" text message (since I got a new SIM card). I turned off wi-fi, rebooted countless times, and I got 0 bars every time. Troubleshooting with T-Mobile didn't lead to better results (one suggestion was to switch to EDGE-only connection--it worked for a while, but eventually stopped). Eventually, the wi-fi stopped working, too (even after rebooting the wireless router, and while other computers were using it just fine).
Yesterday (7/28), I eventually find some time to go back to the T-Mobile store and ask for another SIM card. This time, I hang out for a few minutes. I actually get 4 bars and a 4G signal--for a while. It drops back down to 0 bars. The employee taps around for a while. One interesting thing he found was that the option to "use 2G networks only" is always checked every time you to the Mobile Networks setting page--even after you uncheck the option and exit. I tell the employee I will reinstall the ROM, kernel, and radio. Those solutions help maintain a signal for a while, but it doesn't fix it.
This morning (7/29), I have been trying out different radios. I have tried out 2.09.1800.1, but it provided the same results (1-2 bars consistently when I have been getting 3-4 bars before). Now I'm on the stock radio (1.17​.531​.2). It seems to work okay, but it seems to drop to 0 bars every once in a while. It has also been very difficult to get a 4G signal. If I get a 4G signal, it drops to 0 bars; if it switches to EDGE, I get 4 bars.
Conclusions
I have a feeling that my phone is slowly failing. Are there any other tips I can try?

[Q] For SM-N9005 unlocked owners using US AT&T network - data stopped working

I had this weird problem where mobile data stopped working on my Note 3. The last time it worked was Saturday evening and when I got home, got on wi-fi. This morning, I left the house and I got just the bars without the usual H+ along with it. Phone status said that the network state was disconnected. However, calls worked fine. I tried to troubleshoot with the ATT rep, tried re-registering my number multiple times to no avail. Then, I went into network mode and switched it to "WCDMA/GSM auto" from the default "LTE/WCDMA/GSM auto", and data works again. Since I always had the phone on "LTE/WCDMA/GSM auto" and I know I didn't do any system updates lately, some recent change in the ATT network was probably not playing nice with that network mode. Has anyone with the int'l Note 3 on the ATT network had this problem?
