This is the second week I've had my Arc and it's started to develop a fault. Some times if I put the handset down or lift it up, for no reason it restarts. I can also get it to do this by tapping it in my hand.
I've checked to make sure the battery is secure etc but it still does it.
As I purchased the phone from carphone wharehouse (UK) I rang my local store (Aberdeen) and they said there aren't any in Scotland and their not sure when there will be. As I only have 2 weeks left of the 28 day warranty I phoned CPW and asked if they could supply my local branch with a phone and I could pick it up from there. I was informed by the nice lady on the phone, CPW are not getting any more Sony Ericsson Arc's in and I have the option of either getting mine repaired or having it swapped for a completely different handset.
Does anyone have any idea why this is and are there any know issues with these handsets?
Thanks
28 days warranty?
Dude you are so getting trolled there
SE has a 2 year warranty last time I checked
They are prob not getting any more for a while seeing as the earthquake really ****ed SE production lines
sorry I wasn't clear. The 28 days is a replacement unit warranty anything after that it will be repaired.
Yeah, UK law (specifically the Sales of Goods Act) states that a customer has an initial 'right of rejection' if a device is faulty or in some other way not fit for purpose.
It doesn't actually state what that period of time is but the consensus seems to be 28 days.
That's entirely separate to the manufacturer's warranty, which lasts two years.
However outside the first 28 days, the retailer is entitled to have the handset repaired as opposed to having to simply replace it.
To the best of my knowledge, if you draw the retailer's attention to the problem within the 28 days, then you're entitled to a replacement, even if there's a delay in the retailer procuring a replacement item.
I think that if you get the CPW staff to put a note on your account stating that you've brought the fault to their attention inside of the 28 days, then you'd be entitled to a replacement as soon as they get the Arc back in stock.
But you might want to check with your local Citizen's Advice Bureau first to be sure.
i have exactly the same problem too on my handset.. a few taps of the fingers or a stiff shake to the handset and VOLA!! it reboots. SE has really really screwed up this time. Im in INDIA and there is no handset replacement law here like the UK. I'm quite lost as to what to do. Is this problem in ALL the Arc's or just a few of us ? Can everyone check their handsets and see if they having this problem too ? JUST tap on the back little firmly while holding the phone and see if it reboots.

Mine seems to be just fine, although it is an SO-01C/LT15a.
EDIT: But it kinda sounds like the issue could be a badly seated battery or an issue with the battery area.
I have an unbranded handset (uk) and mine is ok too..

i have the same problem and there is a thread here somewhere there several people have this problem, one of them said it was problem with the memory card slot, as the phone would not reboot without the memory card

Where did you get it?
I just plugged my Focus to my laptop and after a while when I was going to make a call I noticed it was dead. Tried pulling the battery out and then putting it back on and nothing, what happens is that it vibrates more than the usual when I try to turn the phone on, but it is still dead.
Then I took the battery out again, then put it back on, tried the 3 button hard reset and the screen showed a lot of blue lines in the center of the screen and you can see the SAMSUNG logo but not so clearly.
While I was trying everything to solve the issue, I noticed a strange smell coming from the battery and the pins where the charge goes through the phone. But just the smell, no liquid or something similar.
I am in Costa Rica, so I can't take it to an ATT store. Any suggestions? Someone with a similar problem?
I am one of the few other blessed individuals to have my Focus go haywire and stop working. Only difference is mine would do random hard resets, and then eventually it stopped loading into the phone and stuck on the Samsung logo with crazy vibrations going on. I just sent my phone to the Samsung repair center last week.
At this point, you may want to just call up Samsung directly and talk to them about it. More than likely it will be covered under the manufacturers warranty.
1-800-SAMSUNG (726-7864)
Since you’re in Costa Rica I’m not sure how they would handle it, so I can’t help you there.
Thanks for the info. Yes my Focus was working great, I bought it like 6 months ago and not a single issue until yesterday.
I am not sure if I am covered by any warranty, because I bought it through eBay, so I think not even Samsung directly is covering me...
Well thanks for the help!

SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAD A FAULTY BATTER THAT FINALLY SHORTED OUT. HAVE YOU TRIED TO PURCHASE A NEW BATTERY FIRST AND TRYING IT. yOU CAN GO TO THE CELL PHONE SHOP . COM AND BUY ONE FOR UNDER 10.00. I HAVE 2 SPARES FROM THEM AND NOT A PROBLEM. MAYBE YOU SHOULD TRY ANOTHER BATTERY FIRST.

If the date of manufacture is less than a year then just call them up and try. I wouldnt mention ebay though.

I actually traded my Samsung Captivate with someone for their Focus on Craigslist. I just sent in my Focus last week to the repair center, and apparently it's already ready, and most importantly covered. I think the end of August marks the one year mark of the Manufacturer’s warranty just an FYI.
Just like jaraya13 said below... do not mention Ebay. Just say you received the phone as a gift. I told them my family member could not find the receipt since they purchased the phone 8 months ago

Woww this method sounds good! I am going to try something similar. Thanks a million!
Afternoon all,
Last week i had to put in my phone for repair, fine cracks had appeared on the LED under the gorrila glass, thus making my screen blank and none responsive.
I wasnt holding my breath as i thought that it would come back with this answer, they came back saying this (this is though phones4u as that is who i purchased the phone with):
Unfortunately your phone appears to be Out of Warranty so we have raised the following estimate.
So i gave them a call to see how it could be out of warranty and they said even though it is inside the 12months as it is a cracked screen it isnt covered by the wrranty, this is classed as accidental damage.
Now this phone has never been dropped, it was got last april and is pretty much in perfect condition and have no idea how the cracks on the LED appered, after explaining all this i was told the same, it isnt covered as there is no way to prove it wasnt dropped or had extreme pressure put on it.
They gave me a quote of £71.99 to repair the phone and get it back to me, which i am paying. If i had cracked the screen by fault of my own i would think this a good price as i have seen replacement screens on ebay, ect for alot more.
I feel a little hard done by as i know nothing has happened to break my phone, i was just wondering how others feel. Do you think with the size and popularity of Samsung phones they should be offering something like apple loyalty replacement or something similar? or has anyone had better luck going though a different vendor?
Should have contacted Samsung directly instead of going through one of the rip off merchants.

I was told by the man in phones4u that it was being sent to Samsung but it seems to have gone to their repair people. :/
Do you think going to sammy direct would have gotten me a different answer or cheaper repair?

They probably would have given it a more close inspection, as to signs of possible drops or accidents.
That sucks. I'll be sure and steer clear of phones4u in the future, thanks for the heads up.

Dunno but I find it easier to deal directly with the manufacturer than the rip off merchants. When my tab had some dust under the screen within a few weeks of purchase PC World refused to exchange it and said I may need to pay for the repair. Told them to where to stick it and called Samsung directly and they sent a prepaid jiffy bag for the device and a form to fill and send it back to them. They repaired it free of charge and I got it back within a week of sending it off.
Thanks for the input Intratech, think this is a case of lesson learnt for any future problems (hoping there isnt any).
You are in that very difficult position accidental damage by user who of course claims not .Versus phone broke by itself
You could claim against the seller but after six months its up to you to provide the proof that its a manufacturing fault .
As said Samsung may well have been the best route as they will have a higher margin and better trained staff than retail outlets .

Although I prefer to use the S2 as my daily phone, I also own an iPhone 4.
One thing I really love about Apple is their warranty. Pretty much no questions asked. I guarantee if I went in with a cracked LCD (not screen) they would have replaced it on the spot.
Although I love Sammy (S1 & S2) their warranty stinks. Also, no official invoice means no warranty.

Thanks for the replies folks.
I also love what apple do for the customers warranty wise, being able to look up the age of a model instore is amazing.
Do you think that sammy should introduce something like this due to how much they are competing with apple now?
How hard would it be to incorporate this service in to the generic phone shops (CPW,Phones4u,ect).
The cracks maybe related to temperature differentiation? From very hot ambiance to very cold one? It is good to know this kind of stuff.

i work in mobile sales, and i see this allllll the time, now i do believe you when you say that it was probably a manufacturing fault with the screen, but you have to keep in mind that probably 97% of the time with customers, it is the their own fault, and about 85% of those people will downright lie about it, ive had a customer come into my store shouting and screaming that it wasnt her fault the screen was cracked, that it was made badly and that she always was super careful about it, until her 5/6 year old son says 'but wait mommy, i saw you throw it up against the wall when you were shouting...'
fact is, people lie about it, all the time, same with water damage! 'sorry sir but its water damaged, theres not alot i can do about it'
'it hasnt been anywhere near water! it must be the humidity, or condensation, but it most defiantly hasnt gotten wet'
'but look sir... that looks alot like milk to me'
'ah...'
im sure if people were honest all the time, your phone would have been fixed no problem, but no, they arnt :/
sorry about the rant!

This was something that had crossed my mind, before it happened i was at my mums all warm lovely, then i went out and it was freezing was out for about 30min before i noticed what had happened.
I saw that article about how the s2 can work at low low temps the other day, but i dont think it said anything about the effect of a quick change in temps.

Just using o2.co.uk as an example (i know there are a lot of different prices out there i just used a popular place), our s2 is £449.99 on p&g and the ip4s is £499.99.
The £50 difference isn't much more of a premium for how long most people keep there phones for.

I scored mine for 275GBP including an extra battery, and a silicone case. 2 months old (used) not a scratch, delivered to my door (through pure coincidence). Sammobile.com claims that factory warranty runs until Sept 2013.
I suppose im lucky in the sense in that when i purchased my phone on eBay it came with a 2 year warranty and (touch wood) ive had no trouble with it at all and i have it 8 months now and it's running fine, ive heard some bad reports about Phones4U too, their sales assistants are seriously pushy as well the minute you step into one of their shops they are all over you like a rash firing questions at you desperate to make a sale, any wonder i rarely ever go there anymore when im in the UK.

Mine was free on £40 p/m contract, i got it the day after it was released tho it has been in a silicone case from day one. I don't doubt that shopping around will find you our phone cheaper. i just think the majority of people would use a place like o2 or other retail chains.

I just want to move away from the whole tied to a contract thing, im signed up for 24 months and i regret that now. Yeah my warranty card states that the device has a warranty of 24months starting from date of purchase. So Sept 2013 for me also lol
I saw warranty on SamMobile and it was of 1 year and 10 months from the date of purchase but the Samsung guy says he will only give it till 1 year from the date of purchase
P.S yesterday I got my screen replaced and my proximity sensor is not working
Such an idiot guy,I have to go again to service center tomorrow because today is Sunday and its closed

Warranty may be dependant upon area of sales .
Usual in the UK with Samsung mobiles is that Samsung offer a limited warranty for twenty four months .
That is outside of the sellers responsibility for the phone which is usually a twelve month warranty .

After seeing so many posts about how terrible Sony's customer service and repair centers are, I was determined to find a fix for my phone and only come crawling back to Sony as a last resort. Here's what happened:
The top speaker of my phone became much quieter than the bottom speaker. It was only playing sounds at less than half the volume of the bottom speaker. I tried rebooting, resetting, and using Sony's PC companion to repair and reinstall new firmware. Nothing worked. I called Sony support (USA) and told them all of the above. They gave me an RMA#, I mailed my phone to them, and prepared to wait up to 14 business days. Surprisingly, my phone was returned to me in just 7 business days, which meant it spent 6 of those days on a truck an only 1 day at Sony's repair facility in Texas.
The phone was packed very nicely and came with a single piece of paper listing the parts that were replaced. The list basically included the entire exterior of the phone (front, back, and all four sides). It looks like a brand new phone! I turned it on and to my disappointment, they had upgraded my phone from 4.4.4 KK to 5.1.1. LP. I had intentionally stayed on KK because of the battery life and greater control of notifications. I figured this was no big deal though because I could just flash the backup I made before sending in the phone for repair. But another surprise - the phone is no longer rooted! Well, at least the top speaker works properly again. It's so loud, it made me think speakerphone was turned on the first time I made a call. Didn't realize how bad it had become...
(3) Takeaways from this experience:
1. Sony honored my warranty despite the phone being rooted
2. Sony repaired my phone to a like new condition
3. Sony did this in less than a week
Now it's time for the next test - how long can I use the stock ROM before I can't take it anymore and root? I give it about a week...
Had the same experience, and same issue about the earpiece actually, among others. It took them only a few days and it looked like they sent a brand-new phone.
Sent from my GT-I9100G using Tapatalk
They sent mine back in the same box, by itself, and the problem with the audio port happened again after one month.... Probably that USA support is better than UK
I bought the extended warranty when I got my Z3 Compact from the Sony store. Headphone jack issue came up and I called Sony support. They were going to send me a replacement phone in a couple of weeks. I got a call one week later saying they were out of stock on the phone but offered to send me a check of $529.99, the price I paid for my phone and also keep it. Needless to say I took the offer and I now have a Z3C that I bought for $79. In the US btw.
I also had a success story with their service :
my front screen was separating itself from my phone slowly but surely. So I had a gap of 1mm between the screen and the body of my phone at the left top corner. So I emailed them, they told me to sent my phone to the repair center, I did it (had to pay the post fee) and it came back with three sheets of paper with all the stuff they replaced, from the glass to the plastic corners including the SD card holder and the flaps and a lot of small stuff (like small screws)
They were pretty quick, quicker than the delivery (they used DPD, but those are sooo bad, awful.)
NB : I first unrooted my phone before sending it back.
PS : on a side note, do you have any figure concerning the battery life of 4.4 vs 5.1 ? I'm a SlimRom user and I find that battery life was better a year ago, but I'm not sure if it's just subjective or if it's actually the case. I'm also unsure whether I wouldn't be better off if I were on real stock Rom, because I noted that I'm loosing a lot of perf with SlimRom (Antutu dropped from 51k to 38k, e.g)
I purchased mine from ebay and i think the person selling it knew of the sudden death issue that was causing a lot of issues with this phone. I was unaware after purchasing but soon found out after my phone wouldn't turn on and would randomly turn off. I did some research on the issue but could never resolve as it had a bad chip or something, i forget. I looked into the warranty & it was still under warranty (don't think the person who sold it knew the phone was still under warranty) i sent it in and they replaced it with a brand new phone. I bought it cheap on ebay & got a brand new phone out of the deal, so i'm quite pleased to say the least.
i sent my phone to sony twice with single warranty.. and for the second time the phone was unlocked.
Sent mine in 1.5 weeks ago because the vibration alert wasn't working correctly anymore - mechanical issue. Would work for a while when applying pressure to the phone at a certain point so obvious loose connection.
Got it back, issue fixed.
Mate of mine has a faulty audio jack. I had made him a little guide what to do since I did the process before. Might as well share it here. We live in the Netherlands.
Hi,
These are the steps you will have to do to get your phone fixed. Good luck.
1. Make an account on this page
https://account.sonymobile.com/nl-NL/#/signin
2. Find your IMEI number of the phone. This you can find*
Settings>About Phone>IMEI information
3. Register your product on the sony website
4. click on support, there it will show your warranty period. (mine says*GARANTIE VOOR: 05/01/2017)
5. send an email to*[email protected]*and specify your problem and the following details:
problem:*
faulty audio jack
Model:*
Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
IMEI:
phone number:*
address:*
6. Wait for the service ticket, and send it to sony. 1-2 weeks.
Doei!
I had to send my phone two times. First time the sd card slot spring had problems. The second time was also about the audio jack, which sony bricked during the first repair. Ever since the back panel doesn't stay put. Still, all other internals got fixed. All without a proof of receipt. This is a second hand phone.

Success story here in the UK too.
Magnetic charge port got pulled out of my Z3 compact by the Magnector X-202 charger (had been using it for a year) was still within my 2 year warranty. Sent off to Sony and they collected it, replaced the screen (even though there was nothing wrong with it) & the whole casing and sent it back all within 7 days. I thought they'd just stick another magentic charge port in and be done with it. Don't know if it's a coincidence or not but the audio sound louder and better since the repair too, but that might just be due to using my old HTC Desire as a temporary phone.
Very happy with the service.
I had a similar success replacing mine after it got water in it despite all the flaps being closed. It was still within warranty. It took a few weeks because it needed to be tested, but they honored it and sent me a new unit. I suspect it was because I also had a Magnector charger that pulled the magnetic charge port out of the phone. Probably broke the water-tight sealing. All things considered, even if you don't know if it will be covered, go ahead and ask anyway. You might be surprised.
Hey,
also a success here. Send in for warranty with a fault headphone jack, low volume Speakers and a Connection error from pc to phone. Got a complete new model (ist also locked ) yeah
I purchased the phone from Sony Online in Dec-2014 w/ 2yr extended warranty, phone back is now separating from phone. I emailed Sony Support, they said phone was past warranty (WTF?). I phoned them, support said they don't have enough parts to fix phone so they will buy out my 2yr warranty. I'm getting my $$$ back.

I respect Sony Support (they treated my right on PS2, Camera and now Phone). That's why I went with a Sony phone. Not sure when I'll replace my phone, the case holds it together. I figure it'll be good for 2 more months .... see what new phones are out.
I also sent my phone for repairs on July 13, 2016.
The SD card socket was broken mechanically, the memory cards wouldn't stay inside.
They sent me a completely new unit on July 26, 2016 after only 10 working days.
Since now they're selling the Z5, I think they prefer just to send a new Z3C than to waste time trying to solder/desolder parts.

I registered my phone online with the IMEI when I bought it.
Then I just logged in, clicked "Repair" under my devices and they sent a box directly to my house.
I packaged the device, sent it by post and they notified me when they received it.
Hopefully you can also get good service over there!
Good luck

So much for online repair...?
My magnetic charge port has come out again after being repaired in April this year. Sending it off for repair again, hopefully will go as smoothly as last time.
Hello!
I just bought a new S7 edge. After 3 days of use on my screen appeared 2 parallel lines .
And this 2 lines are getting larger every day.
So if i will send my phone to an genuine samsung service after my screen replacement my phone will be as new ?
I know this can be silly question but, I'm asking that, because few friends of mine send their phones for screen replacing and after that the screen never been as before.
And i also installed on my phone a full phone protector (back, screen, bottom and top) and if i will send my phone to samsung who will pay for this protection?
Anyone had a similar problem?
Thank you!
I'm pretty sure under the first 14 days they have to give you a brand new one legally or something.

3 days?
You should ask for a replacement not a repair.
The issue with the IP68 rating on the S7/S7E is that it's not really worth a whole lot, or at least in terms of repair if something goes wrong. If your phone ends up being damaged by water, Samsung are no more likely to repair it than in the same situation with a Galaxy S6 for example. Just look at one of the S7 Edge teardown videos, and you will see water detection strips in the phone. If they're tripped, the phone won't be repaired for free, regardless of if it was as a result of a manufacturing fault or the owner not fully inserting the sim tray (for example). And you can't prove it one way or the other.
Saying that, if it's repaired at a Samsung repair centre, then IP68 should still be guaranteed, and you should ask them for confirmation of that. But I wouldn't treat the phone any different regardless, it's a bonus in case you have an accident, not something that should be proven by taking photos in your local swimming pool.
Putting that to one side though, at only 3 days old the people above are correct. This is a replacement, not a repair.
Thank you for your answers, but the phone is bought one month ago, but not activated until now. A replacement is still valid?
Thank you!
