I have bought a US variant of a phone and am using in the UK.
It only uses one of the 4g LTE bands.
If I was able to region unlock the phone - would this free up the other bands for me to use?
Or am I permanently locked with the one 4g LTE band?

Region lock prevents a phone from being initialized outside its region of sale. Region unlocking it allows it to use any SIM from any wireless provider anywhere in the world. It doesn't change any of the phone's s/w.
You'd need to flash a different modem to change the wireless bands. That can be tricky because if the modem from another is different in packaging size than the one on your phone it'll fail in Odin. As an example, I have a SM-P905 tablet from Singapore. I can flash a Spain ROM to it but not some other EU countries because the flash fails when it gets to the modem because the modem s/w is different size.
Thanks.

You probably have a 9500 model, which does not support LTE. Only the 9505 version does.
No i have a i9505 for sure we only have this model in austria and i have looked at settings its i9505...and also on the box its 4×1.9 quadcore processor

call your provider thewy may have to enable LTE on your account then restart your phone and option may appear as the sim card updates itself ands the phone.
Hi all,
Just wondering has anybody come into this issue before?
For some reason, when i use my Vodafone Sim card it gives me the LTE option.
However when I insert another sim card (e.g. my optus or telstra) it removes the LTE option.
Is there such a thing as 4G Sim?
Yes LTE enabled sims

No, it's not sim related, it's contract related. You have to ask to your carrier to enable LTE, and it will probably have a cost.

Like the topic says, I installed the following:
[AOSPA 4.4.2 KVT49L] PARANOIDANDROID 4.0+ G2 [beta6]
And latest Gapps.
Phone works fine, but with my T Mo sim installed the best I can get is HSPA+. I am in an LTE area btw, my T Mob HTC One gets the signal just fine.
One other abnormality, the baseband version in the settings shows: "unknown" but the phone does still work
Lte bands arent the same for vz and tmo

Thats not what I've read on multiple occasions. The device does have 3 (i think) LTE bands (2 of which T mobile uses). Now I might just not be in an area where those bands the device already has are used, this I don't know.
Best I have been able to get is H+
As far as i know, tmobile only uses one band for LTE which is one of the 2 bands that att use... but verizon is on a totally different one...

Right, however regardless of if I'm in an LTE area at my house or not, the phone should still show info for things like: Phone number (currently unknown).
This is the video that explains the process of turning a Vz G2 into a T_Mo LTE capable phone:

Ok. I know here claro pr can show unknown and it still works. Iveeven seen phones with unknown or blank imei and it still works with them...

My S5 permanently shows 4G except when on Wifi. I got it from GSM Nation and they sent me the G900W8 (Canadian) model instead of the G900F (International) but it works fine in my country. There is no actual 4G in my country, yet my phone shows that. Does anyone have a solution or have the same problem?

It's most likely that the canadian version (and the US versions) consider HSPA+ as 4G.
The problem is that it shows 4G even when the signal is actually Edge or 3G.

That's weird it should be 4G=H+, H=H, 3G and E that's what I get. Maybe you need to flash a Modem from your country. Look into it. Don't go flashing a modem just yet investigate some more.

My friend's S5 is working properly and I just don't get why mine is acting weird. The data works properly and the bands my country uses are within the bands of the phone. I'll wait a bit more. Maybe someone will have an answer.

I bought Galaxy S7 from T-Mobile and switch to Verizon network, however the phone does not connect to Verizon network, it connect to AT&T and even when I try to use my international SIM card it works just fine except with Verizon.
I flashed the modem image of Verizon Galaxy S7 and I was able to get 4G LTE signal but no phone calls or SMS I tried to flash the Verizon image with no luck it gave me about the PIT file, I tried the TMobile PIT the Verizon image was larger than the TMobile partition.
Can anyone help me figure out which image or what partial image I can Flash to make the phone capable of using the Verizon phone network?
Hardware isnt compatible. Verizon is cdma tmobile/att/cricket is gsm. Been down that road. Cricket now has an unlimited lte plan for 65$ thats where I went. Best deal out there and prepaid, bill is always the same every month

There were differences before, but this isn't the case anymore, Verizon is GSM/CDMA today, and they default to GSM, and as for the GS7 there is absolutely no HW difference between the US market versions.
Can someone help me figuring which image contain the drivers/code that control which frequency the phone chip connect to.
To be more clear modem.img in android control the 4G/3G driver, what control the voice transport driver?

APN settings control data link, not voice link.
FYI I have right APN .

This is not true anymore, that changed when they started using sim cards.

Does the TMo version support all the LTE bands that Verizon has? Also, in the case you don't have LTE service, you won't get 3G at all, since Verizon doesn't support HSPA at all.

The CDMA radio on board isn't compatible with VZW voice network. This has been true for ages. VZW won't let a non-vzw certified device on their voice network because they literally don't have to. If your device supports compatible VoLTE that might work as it sends the call over GSM but if you ever lose LTE signal you won't be able to use that side of the network.

you can just flash to the verizon version without rooting the phone. Using odin.

Flash through odin doesn't require unlock bootloader. From what I have read. All four carrier can flash to each other without trigger anything.
N/a
When I try to flash using Odin, I get a message saying that the system image is larger than the partition, I tried to use the Verizon PIT to partition the storage with no luck!
