Since moving from the Galaxy lineup to the V20 I've been unable to set custom ringtones for contacts. On Samsungs there was a built-in app that would handle user audio files & attach to the contact; as long as it was audio the format didn't really matter. So far I've found no such program on the LG. What says the community. Simple process that I'm just not familiar with? TIA.
Partial solution....
Copied all the tones from my external SD to the internal SD ringtones folder. Now they're accessible. Still odd that the system says that no application can handle this when I click the "+".

The only way I know is to go into each contact, select edit, and change the ring tone.
I did it in following steps.
Open the contact you want to set custom ringtone and click "Edit"
scroll down to the place Ringtone. Normally, the name of your default ringtone will be displayed there.
click on it and list of the ringtones available on your phone will be shown.
click on the (+) button on the top-right corner. Your music app will be opened. (if you have more then 1 music app, it will ask you to choose one.
select the audio file that is appeared in the list of the music app.
That's it. It works every time.

Probably TiBu then. I froze a bunch of stuff soon as I got root. Didn't know the "Music" app handled this. I have others that I prefer so it got iced.

probably. don't freeze the music app. Actually i preferred it a lot since currently it is the only app that can utilize the DAC 100%. The other apps sometimes pass over 48khz mark, but can't reach the output 128khz like the stock music app.

just look around. google wavs. i personally download mario sound effect. i really like the yoshi sound
I need an app like that but I can't fnd it. anybody got the apk?
I used that app before until I've realized (read somewhere on the forum) that all you need to do is put sound files into notifications or ringtones folder on your SD card and then they will appear in the list of sounds when you choose new sound for apps.
As for sounds just Google it -- there are plenty of sound resources on the web.
Ringdroid will allow you to cut a piece of an MP3 and save it as a notification or ring. Is that what you're looking for?
do they have to be in .ogg format to work? andexplorer won't let me copy/paste wavs or mp3 into the system folders.

just make the following directory structure using your computer on the fat32 partition and put the mp3 files there...
/audio/ringtones
/audio/notifications

I gave you the wrong info here it is actually..
media/audio/ringtones
media/audio/notifications
I keep my notification sounds on my ext3 partition, because the phone can still acess them when the fat32 partition is mounted in your computer.
All you have to do is push the media folder to /system/sd although I did make to make all the folders manually, only took a couple of minutes though, and the sounds show up on the phone just like they would on the fat32 partition.
may i know how to chnage dream's msg ring tone... cause all the ring tone theat i can select are all default.... how can i choose or import music ring tone to my msg ring tone.... thxz in advance
if you're rooted, create a folder on the sd card called media. then create another folder inside it called audio. then create another inside the audio folder called notifications. put all youre custom tones in that notifications folder and you're all set.

Why do say "if you're rooted"?
The exact same thing can be done with a non-rooted phone by plugging it up to a pc and clicking mount
As a matter of fact the audio pack that's an addition to cyan's builds sit's in a folder called audio on my sdcard and my phone reads the ringtone's & notification's from it

Create a folder on your CD card called ringtones, and one called notifications and put the files you want in each one.
i still cant have my own msg ringtones... i cre8 2 folder in my sd card after that i put the songs/ringtones that i wan in thr... after that i disconnect the usb frm my phone.... then when i go into my phone settings, and i tap on notificatons settings - select ringtones, i still cant find the song/ringtones that i wan... i really nid help here thxz in advance
I have mine setup like this:
root>My Audio/Ringtones and root >My Audio/Notifications
So I'm not sure if you need to name it any specific thing.
an easier way is to use ringdroid and everything will be made for you. But if you create the folder make a folder called media and inside that folder make 2 folders, one called notification and the other ringtone.

Create folders on SD card:
alarms/
notifications/
ringtones/
And place media accordingly. What format are the items you're trying to use? MP3? WAV? Other?

hey guys, i found this post but it doesn't seem to answer anything, i'll make a new thread if I can't get an answer out of this one.
So I've been running cyanogen's mod for a while now, and i haven't been able to change my notification ringtones. I have ringdroid and rings extended, and i know how to change the ringtones, but everytime I click 'ok' or 'accept' or whatever it is, when it reloads the settings menu, the default ringtone is still selected, as if i never tried to change it.
any ideas?

Using the newest froyo 2.2 build on HD2

Alternative solution would be to select a music a (from Music folder) do a "long press". Then, this music could be selected as your "Ring tone".

when I do that I only get: Open, Open With, Send to, Cut, Copy, Shortcut, Delete, Rename and Properties..
oh and it did not work from the settings menu, only thing to choose there was quiet mode.

I use a program called Zedge from the marketplace. It allows you to search for ringtones and wallpapers. Once you download a ringtone, it will be selectable in the sound options.

I put these files in media\audio\notifications and it didn't show in the list
I tried also in \Notifications and they didn't also!!
each time i try a reboot to make it rescan for the new media but still no luck!
is there is a working way for this to add my tones? I tried zedge and it works but I can't add my tones to it..
I think about convert the files to .ogg and put them in system/media but this will only work for rooted phones and I guess there is another solution for that much easier!

Hi,
Try putting a folder on the root of your sd card, and call it "Notifications".
Put your mp3's in there and try again.

maybe there is something in these apps makes the phone rescan media or what, the thing is I have a nexus 7 and once I add mp3 file to notification folder I find it in the list instantly!!

If you push the mp3 notifs to the Notification folder, you would definitely have to reboot for it to take effect

I have the solution!!
I had the exactly the same problem with my S4(i9500). I've searched across the web to get a solution but in the end I've found it on my own.
> Install ES file explore
> clear defaults for Media Storage(default android sound picker). ( you may not need to do this)
> go to sound settings then notifications (or message settings then select ringtone whatever u want to change)
> you should see a dialog like complete action using : ES file explorer, Media storage, zedge (if u have it)
> choose ES and hit Just once(so you won't have to clear defaults every time)
> navigate to sound file u want and hit it.

Yeah it has one way. U can put the mp3 files in the folder u want, this isnt important. Follow this steps:
1. Go to Apps, Settings, My device, Sound, Ringtones
2. Look for button "Add"
3. Add the sounds u want one by one
4. When u have them in that list, click OK
5. Now u can go Default notification sound
6. Select the one u need added manually b4
7. Enjoy ur new notification sound! I hope it helped ya :highfive:

I've tried following online instructions for adding custom notification sounds, which say to copy the sound file to storage>emulated>notifications, and then selecting the sound via settings>[app of interest]. But when trying to use the custom sound for the messages app, the new sound doesn't appear in the list, and I can't find a way to select any other custom sound.
Can anyone help with this?

I used the recommended process last night to add the same mp3 file to my ancient Nexus 6P, and in a strange sequence of events, it didn't 'take' last night when we checked, but when I got my 1st text this morning, the notification sound had changed to the new sound.
The S10's available sounds under 'general notifications'>'sound' include a category of 'custom', which has 'Facebook Pop' as its only entry, but I can't find any way to access the 'custom' category to add a file to it.

hmmm just to be clear you added mp3 to Notification folder (the default one) and i wont show up in app when trying to change the sound or it wont show up in samsung's notification sound selection? (also try adding the sound to ringtones folder)
also you could try converting the sound to *.OGG see if that does the trick?

Converted to .ogg, added to notifications, ringtones, and the just-noticed 'sounds' folder. I can now see the file under 'settings'> 'sounds and vibration'>'ringtone' in the 'custom' category. I can change the ringtone to the new file. But it does *not* appear anywhere in the settings>notification sound section, nor as an option when going down the menu tree for the messages app notifications. The ringtone category also includes multiple other custom audio files, but the notification sound category has only that 'facebook pop' file under the custom category.
OK, I tried multiple other things, and in the process, discovered (via a file explorer app that I'm comfortable with) that there's a folder under storage>emulated> called 'mobile content'. In *that* folder are folders with the same names as under the 'emulated' parent folder: data, dcim, download, notifications, ringtones, sounds, etc.
So.... I copied the files to notifications, ringtones, and sounds, and now the desired file shows up in the messages list. And, we now get the desired sound as a messages notification.
Thanks for the help, and a heads-up to the next person that has to deal with this. The phone had a hard reset before being gifted to my wife from her son. We used Samsung's transfer app to move her data/apps from her Samsung S8+ to this phone, and we haven't created any new folders beyond those created by Samsung.
Again, thanks for the help; without the new ideas I'd never have dug that deep into the directory tree on the phone.

Apparently you can get a messages 'notification' (for what?) that's different from a 'new messages' 'notification'.
Duh. Nothing I've found online about the Samsung s10 mentions this.
