I'm told that I should be able to enable Smart Lock from Trust Agents via Settings -> Security -> Advanced -> Trust Agents, and then be able to turn it on so that I can attempt to use NFC capability with my lock screen. However, my Advanced section is totally missing from the menu, and even though I have developer mode enabled, there doesn't appear to be a menu available anywhere to enable it. I've even used the search function to see if there existed a Trust Agents setting, or an setting or menu with the word Advanced in it, and no dice.
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S5, I guess that's obvious though, and it is running 4.4.2. I literally just flashed and rooted it with Odin and TWRP AFTER encountering this issue, because I thought that the only way that I might be able to force Advanced to be enabled if its disabled somehow instead of being outright cut from my phone's software, then I might need root privileges. So, I've finally gotten off my butt, and rooted the phone after using it without a root for a few years now. Can anyone help me solve this, since I've scoured the internet and have no where else to turn to?
Update: My settings were missing as a result of my provider, I suspect. I attempted to flash Alliance OS, then successfully flashed Lineage OS 17.1 onto my phone via TWRP, and the security settings I should of had were there. I'm not sure what provider I had though, because my phones model is SM-S209L, and all other galaxy s5's have, like, G900 series numbers.

Hi Folks,
I have an bootloader locked/rooted/stock Cricket/AIO (AT&T) S4 i337z with 4.4.2 TUUBNE2, and it doesn't have a menu option for enabling tethering. Most of the guides out there are geared to bypassing the carrier check, but that's not my issue, I simply don't have a menu option to configure tethering at all. I've tried everything I could find to enabled it, but it seems the menu/feature is turned off or removed somehow. Any gurus out there know what controls visibility of this menu, and/or have any ideas on how I can get it to show up?
PS. I have not been able to get Safestrap to boot another rom successfully so at least for the time being that's not an option. Also, I know there are 3rd party methods (apps) for enabling hotspot, but I'd really like to stick with the native one if possible.
Thank you!
I'm hoping to prevent my phone from taking updates in case a root exploit is found (but then quickly patched by VZ). I've disabled updates in the developer options (Settings/About Phone/Software Info/Build Number - click 7 times to enable developer options menu / developer options menu / Automatic system updates set to off).
I did that the other day and that was after taking the first "performance" OTA which had already downloaded/installed.
I figured that would do the trick however and hour ago I had my phone sitting on my desk connected to my PC via USB and when I picked it up there was a note saying something about my phone had been updated(?). Maybe it was just a notification I hadn't gotten from the first one somehow popping late but I'm kinda confused.. And this was a message about a system update (I should have screenshotted it or read it more my first thought was **** did I not toggle that developer option correctly....but I had). It was the message saying you may want to reboot as it may have drained the battery on your phone.
I'm on Software: VS99511A
Config: B16.LGE.VS995.0
Build NRD90M
Kernel [email protected]
I noticed in Application manager if I show system I can see 2 "System Updates" and I'm guess those are what kicked on and did something while I wasn't paying attention. Can those be disabled? One of them has an advanced permission for "Modify system settings" which I toggled to "no" cause I figured at worst that would just cause an error. The other I can only force stop and then disable but when I attempt to do that it warns me that doing so would hide it and I'm afraid I might not be able to relocate it/re-enable it (w/o a factory reset?) and that could be a serious problem
How is everyone else in the "hoping root come relatively soon" boat handling updates?
Thanks for any discussion/suggestions....

In developer options there is disable automatic system updates. I like that feature.
Edit: sorry. I reread and saw you saw that. I had recently found that.
I'm still on 10b I disabled in the dev section and I get the constant you need to update but hasn't done it auto thankfully

Any idea how to get past a at&t v20 that has updates already trying to install? Flash a new ROM or maybe a factory reset? BTW its already rooted but I forgot to disable the OTA updates. Thanks. EDIT: Nevermind. Just did a wipe on dalvik and cache, which took care of the problem.
Freezing System updates 1_15_10_0 and System updates 1_16_02_0 using Titanium Backup (this requires root), will stop those messages. It was nearly the same set of processes for the V10.
I've also seen a recommendation to freeze FOTA Update 7.0, and a method using the phone's hidden menu.
I'm not addressing rootless options since this message was posted a month and half before me2151's DirtySanta bootloader and root guide was released, that's no longer an issue.
I'm on 10m and recently rooted. I cannot find 1_15_10_0...I found the other file and successfully froze it. I've also frozen the FOTA Update. I tried accessing the hidden menu, but I get an error message. On 10m, is there a 1_15_10_0?
EDIT: Sorry for digging such a long-dead thread. Didn't see the more recent one that's also active.
Hey guys I know this is OT but is it true that the v20 from Verizon is unlocked and can work with any other sim?
Hello group!
I have a question before getting started with my new phone
DETAILS:
from "About Phone"
Android version: 6.0.1
Baseband version: G935VVRU4API3
Kernel version: 3.18.20
Build number MMB29M.G935VVRU4API3
I have not yet entered my google credentials, no wifi access points, and the phone is in "Airplane Mode". I expect that a Verizon system update (to Nougat?) will start soon after I turn off airplane mode & enable wifi.
I HAVE on my Win10x64 computer, properly installed Samsung drivers, installed Samsung Smart Switch, did a test backup (settings only), enabled developer mode (phone) and turned on USB debugging (phone)
I'm upgrading from a rooted Galaxy S4 (running Android 4.3), and although I plan to root my new S7E in the future, I think I will run stock for awhile. Although I did no rom installs on the S4, (had safestrap & a small rom installed in one of the partitions, but rarely used it), I will miss TiBu for a while, Tasker advanced stuff, root options in the AutoApps suite.
I also understand removing bloatware is a little easier these days for unrooted phones.
QUESTION:
Is there any recommendation that I should do/save/copy/settings to this phone before I continue?
After reading the MM & N threads on rooting (great work) I believe I can root in the future using Odin, ADB, etc.
Actually, as I read this, I'm thinking, "This is a stupid question, the phone is unrooted, I can't provide anything useful to the group!"
But, any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

You can try using smartswitch on your phone. Go to to the Samsung apps store and download smart switch. I think that will help you transfer stuff to your new device.
If you are wanting to backup your s7 you need to download smartswitch on your computer and do a backup.
it will save settings, apps, and other things for you.
If you are wanting to restore information onto your phone when you first set it up it should have mentioned something about a transfer where you would've touch the two phones together using NFC and they would transfer settings and other info.

Thanks zimgir124,
I did install the smartswitch on the PC, and it backed up both the S4 & S7 pretty well. It would not backup my sms though (perhaps because the file is huge, goes back to 2010)
As for transferring settings, the NFC transfer sounded interesting, but I chose to redo the apps manually. I really wanted to keep only my sms, mms, & call log, so I used MyBackup Pro (since I couldn't use TiBu) which worked splendidly.
Using 4g only (wifi not yet enabled), I re-installed many of the apps individually, & set them up from scratch. Then I started learning the ins & outs of Android 6. This is SO different from the 4.3 I am used to!
Once I was comfortable, I connected to my home wifi network. Sure enough, within 15 minutes, the phone was prompting me to download & update to Android 7.0
To this point, the phone is running very smoothly, and the battery life is pretty good. This is my first android phone where the battery is not user replaceable. I also miss the IR blaster on the Galaxy S4. I saw no reports of it being added to the new S8 (which is why I chose the older, less expensive S7E)
I read your continuing guide on rooting, and I'm sure I'll take the plunge (again)
Again, thank you for your response
Chris
Hi, Everyone
I'm new to this community. I'm having trouble gaining access to the OEM Bootloader Unlock option in developer options. Here are things I've tried already based on what I researched before my attempt.
Android 10 is the current OS installed after unboxing.
1. Disable Automatic Date and time
2. Select a date more than 7 days prior to current date of attempt.
3. Under Settings > About Phone > Software Information. Select/Tap Build Number 7-8 times to unlock Developer Option.
4. Disable Auto Update System (Apply Updates When Device Restarts) - *This was somehow already disabled the first time I entered Developer options*
5. Under Software Updates > Disable Automatic Updates -*This was also already disabled on unboxing and it says Automatically download updates over Wifi. It does not say Automatic Updates*
6. Reboot device and return to Developer Options after booting to OS.
7. The OEM Bootloader Unlock option should appear greyed out at this point. Toggle it to unlock bootloader with consideration that it will wipe the device data.
These are the steps I've found and tried with no success in gaining access to the Bootloader unlock option. I am also certain that my device is the international model with Exynos chipset and Mali-G72 GPU. Something else to note, I did uncheck many default options tied to improving privacy on the device before attempting the steps to gain access to the bootloader unlock option. I do not know if that would make a difference. If there is any other information I can provide to get some help with this problem, please add it to your reply. Excited to hear from the community.
Did you figure it out yet (I hope so)?
I came across your question on googling the missing OEM-Unlock on my device^^
For me basically steps 6-13 from here brought up the missing option in developer options.
After unlocking I had to do this again, to be able to flash the custom recovery
The toggle to enable OEM unlocking under developer options is completely missing, and nothing seems to make a difference.
The widely-shared workaround involving changing the date didn't work.
Waiting seven whole days didn't work.
Is 168 hours uptime with no reboots necessary?
Is a Google account necessary?
Is a Samsung account necessary?
Could someone please just explain the exact set of conditions necessary to enable this option?
try connecting to wifi

I would like to find the answer, I am with this problem in a galaxy xcover pro that I need to root to use development apps, no method worked for me and even worse it was automatically updated to Android 11, I have even less hope that it will work
Is this an LTE variant?

I also have Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro (SM-G715FN) with Android 11. On my phone the `OEM Unlocking` option appeared after using phone for 7 days and I successfully rooted the phone. I had Google account, Samsung account and automatic software updates enabled, but I don't know if it was neccesary.

thank you, i trie and coment you
The following worked for me:
1. Factory reset
2. During tablet setup:
a. connect to wifi
b. Sign in to Google and Samsung accounts
3. turn on developer mode
4. the OEM Unlock option appears!
I did not have to reset the tablet date/time.
Can I get someone with a Tab S6 to confirm the above?

Edit:
Here's the relevant software info:
One UI Version: 3.1
Android Version: 11
Kernel Version: 4.14.190-21627332-abT860XXS3CUG1

TLDR: Just enable Wifi.
I bring you the answer today
I'm with a XCover Pro running Android 12 already (G715FNXXUADVG4). Before connecting the device to the internet, I absolutely wanted to prevent any further updates, as I'm going to use some variant of the xposed framework and higher Android versions make things more complicated.
So I disabled automatic Updates in the developer options (and everywhere else I could find anything update-related).
I even removed almost every app, including update apps, using this debloat script: https://github.com/khlam/debloat-samsung-android .
I have no Samsung account nor Google account.
The option to unlock the bootloader was still missing.
I changed the date from 2022 to 2023 (for some reason it was a couple of months off). I restartet the phone.
Still no option to unlock OEM.
The device told me there were updates available now (for whatever reason). There is not even a sim card inserted, yet.
Then I enabled wifi. Couldn't tell if any updates happened, didn't notice anything going on.
And then the magic happened ...
"Unlock OEM" appeared INSTANTLY in the developers menu, just after the device connected to wifi / internet.
That's it.
