Question about TWRP - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hellol
I hope I'm posting in the correct place. I have a rooted Lg V20 VS 995 which I found out has a blacklisted imei so am exchanging for another device same model with a good imei. I have the first device exactly how I want it, rooted, custom Resurrection Remix rom and have a good TWRP backup on PC. if I use the Rooted TWRP PC backup as a restore will it make the new device a duplicate of the old one, rooted and all? I'm trying to save $40 on paying for another root. I don't know how to root myself, but I can install TWRP I think, and restore if that would work.
Thank you, Barry

if you do a twrp restore, only restore data and system. I repeat do not restore EFS! this will brick the efs structure that contains the imei etc.
So yes you can use ur old backup. but do not restore the efs as it will brick the protected folders ur serial etc hides.
Root isn't hard. Dont pay 40$, just check out the thread on how to root the VS995, the process to get twrp IS ROOTING it really, once its got twrp you just flash a rooted rom and bennifit. The hardest part is unlocking the bootloader and getting twrp, the rest is just wiping data and installing a zip.
you can do it bro!

If I read posts from Cyanogen correctly, there should be a nandroid of the original stock firmware of the Nexus One (there is no one's info in this backup)
Just put the folder in the root and run a nandroid restore

I did the "Casual" TWRP Recovery and Root for my AT&T S4 and love it. I booted into recovery and flashed a backup image of my stock device and saved the 3.56 GB nandoid file on both the internal and external SD and put another copy of my original phone image or nandroid or backup or whatever flavor you want to call it, on my PC.
I've frozen 37 phone functions with Titanium Backup and dodged a bullet. I heard there was another over the airwaves update from AT&T a couple days ago, and I am pleased to see it never appeared on my S4. I couldn't be happier. I have yet to try any custom roms as cyanogenmod doesn't seem to be getting any love lately, plus I would not want to give up the universal remote in the on board "watch on" app.
Why do you want to undo TWRP custom recovery and lose root? Titanium Backup needs root. Did you flash a custom rom without going into recovery first and making a backup of your stock handset once you got root and TWRP?
In any case I think there is an Odin thread you need to read: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40976805

well.....Theres nothing wrong with TWRP recovery and root, its just that I have no need for it. I have tried a few custom roms and none offer battery life better than that of the stock TW software so I decided to just stay stock. As you said like 2 days ago at&t rolled out another OTA, however I dont think my phone installed it. It booted into TWRP and it started installing a zip. I wasnt sure if that was the OTA or not. I just dont need the TWRP and root as of now and its kind of a hastle in my current state to flash the new OTA's instead of having it automatically install via stock recovery.

A Few Questions About Rooting And Stuff

Hello!
I have just got a new LG G2!
I want to root it, but I'm a little bit confused atm:
1) Rooting the device using IORoot does not change the kernel or recovery, does it? (I'll be rooted runnig stock and won't be able to flash stuff)
2) If I want to create a nandroid backup, I have to flash first CWM/TWRP. So how can I make a nandroid backup for my current unrooted and runnig stock phone?
3) Can I backup my EFS files without a custum recovery (with root only)?
4) Is that correct that after each rom I flash, the phone needs to be rooted again?
Thanks!
1. Yes
2. You use the cwm. Or twrp to make the backup.
3. Not sure, have always been rooted sui never looked for a way to do that.
4. No, I've never had to reroot after installing any rom.

( i assume this is to open sim tray).. i cheked phone imei on dialer and it matches, i used online phone imei and it matches ive checked the box and it matches.. if i go this way and trust this way, will i be able to recover phone back and unbrick if it does?
if i go and trsut its a true d800
what are the steps? what should i do first back up imei? first root right and recovery thats where i can back up efs that contains imei number right? if so wich method of root and wich ecovery. am not good at command prompt.

Well, first, welcome in G2 forum !
Ok, so about your questions:
-First step, yeah, backup your EFS partition -> use this thread, thanks to @autoprime: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451390: it will backing up the partitions on your phone, then you MUST MOVE those backups into safe place, such as an external hard drive.
-Second step, yes, when you make an Nandroid Backup, it's located in "/sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/your_phone_id/", so if you provide to do "risky" things, do the same as the EFS, move your backups into safe place: if you want to be able to push it when in recovery, you must use a recovery that use the MTP protocol: the latest TWRP use it, so flash it into recovery (see my signature to link for TWRP, BUT USE THE 2.8.7.1 VERSION, 'CAUSE THE 2.8.7.2 SEEMS TO HAVE A BUG THAT WIPE YOUR DATA).
If you experimenting a bootloop for example, boot into recovery, plug your phone, and you'll be able, after LG's drivers installed, to push the backup from your PC to your phone.
Here if you got any questions mate!

Hmmm, nice dude, you make things fast !
But be sure every time you download a ROM to download the correct version for your model, and also, check some posts into the ROM threads to see how you can go back to stock, etc. Always good things to do !

The easiest way to unroot and return back to stock is to flash either the NPJ25.93-14 Dec 2016 firmware (https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/moto-g4-plus-xt1640-43-athene-npj25-93-t3549369) or the NPJS25.93-14.4 March 2017 firmware https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/stock-rom-npjs25-93-14-4-march-1-t3608138
Both can be flashed via fastboot, instructions are included with either stock ROM. Flashing these will return you back to Nougat stock, without root as they replace your kernel, system and recovery with stock. There are scripts to flash without re-locking your bootloader as well. However, the steps will likely involve erasing your data, ensure you have the necessary files backed up and saved off your internal storage (preferably on your computer).
