So here we have a Mate 9 Rebranded to P10:

As you can see, although it's a Mate 9, it thinks it's a P10.
The camera indeed works, which proves the hardware is the same.
Unfortunately, Wifi is not working, so I can't recommend actually doing this. Everything other than wifi that I tested worked fine. Still, neat that it's possible.
I will look into rebranding to P10 Plus, as well as Honor 8 Pro, to see what works and what doesn't.
EDIT: Same results with Honor 8 Pro and P10 Plus. I am going to try messing around with the radio firmware to see if I can't get wifi working, but I find it to be somewhat unlikely, unfortunately.
Great piece of work!
Hardware is most likely similar, but how are the photos on the mate 9 with p10 software compare with the mate 9 with mate 9 software?
Is the mate 9's camera software algorithms better than the p10's?
You also mentioned the wifi now doesn't work with the p10 software, as Im having wifi probs with my unmodified Mate9, im actually thinking my wifi issues are software based! anyways.....

About photos, I'm a bad person to ask. I don't take pictures often.
Regarding wifi, it doesn't turn on, at all. Something with the wifi is different, hardware wise. I'm trying to create a hybrid so I can get wifi to turn on, but I don't think the chances are very good.
EDIT: I can't create a hybrid unless I have kernel sources, it would seem. The wifi drivers are baked into the kernel as far as I can tell, so unfortunately, can't get anything working
Can you upload the p10 camera app to us?
So it doesn't look goof for wifi at all, cant live without it, hexcellent work though, omg!!
Any difference on battery life? lol

Whats the difference in the maye 9 camera app vs the p10?
What about the support for mirrorlink in p10 software?
Well, here's some crazy news. I've done some work on it, and I've now got wifi/data fully working, with a Mate 9 rebranded to a P10, but using the Mate 9 EMUI 5.1 beta's kernel. Nothing to release yet in terms of methods, because there's still some things missing, like Camera not working.
I'll offer a better explanation once I've got one ready.
PRESENT STATUS:
Not working yet: Camera and NFC. Both of these work on the P10 kernel.
Working: Everything else, so far.
Is there like I saw I an article support for mirrorlink in p10 software?

From what I can tell no Huawei phone supports mirrorlink.
Yeah, that's my experience also, but what I don't get is that the article I saw about the p10 was that they directly wrote it would support mirrorlink and the other thing is that Huawei and vw also in 2016 startet working together to give customers the opportunity to connect their car through mirrorlink with the company realvnc. So Im kinda baffled that it's nothing I can find anything further on.
It's strange that nearly every other phone on the market supports this but not Huawei.
It would be okay if there still was the possibility to connect the phone through a mhl cable but that option disappeared with honor 7 I think it was.
I'm a rookie when it comes to playing around with firmware and making things work. That's why I signed up in here hoping someone knows a lot more than me about these things.
But I think it's cool that you actually got the p10 software down on the p9.
Just found this on the Club Huawei chinese forums, if you google search P10 MirrorLink, there is a HEAP of posts on the club huawei site about it.. tho no real official info..
http://club.huawei.com/thread-12399574-1-1.html
The translation using Chrome is pretty bad, but it sounds like the P10 Plus has MirrorLink, and the guy uploaded a photo of it in action.. interestingly tho I cannot even tell which phone is in the pic, its pretty dark...
Chrome doesn't do Chinese very well. It's even worse when I ask it to be Danish.
But you are right, it's pretty dark that picture but I'm sure it looks like the p10 plus like he says.
There is of cause like you also found out no official info about it. I found the info through an article where they where testing Huawei p10, and it must have been the p10 plus.
Further in the link they do back up what I saw about Huawei and vw. But as I understand is mirrorlink and all around future so I'm wondering if it is software/firmware we need or hardware. I really don't believe it's hardware because Som years ago when I use to alway have HTC suddenly there was and upgrade where mirrorlink was included and it's still there updating through the play store.
So the question would be is it and app being in the phone on the p10 you with the right skills could take it out and put it in a p9 or p9 pro like mine.
Cant you just use the kernel of the mate 9 in the p10 rom? Then you should have kernel wifi support...

Hey as stated, I found this a guy brought up this @modaco threads thinking you guys here would want to see also would it be simple to modify this and thus giving us a proper 2.3 rom?
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...r-the-devs-huawei-c8800-gingerbread-firmware/
All credits goes to McSpoon.
here it states it has same hardware , but in small picture if you enlarge it you can see it says 256ram, also C8800 might indicate the mobile is for China's market only(?) that's why the Chinese rom only. Let's Hope it will be released soon
As far as I can see the only difference is that it's a CDMA phone so surely it can't be that hard to customise it for use on the X5?
Well it does look like the CDMA version of the U8800.
Considering the case of the ZTE Blade its possible that both models have the same amount of memory but half of it is software-disabled or something. Either way its a good starting point.
Fingers crossed
I doubt this is going to make it any easier to get a Gingerbread ROM fully functional for our phones, since it is running on the 7227 (Last Gen) processor with 256mb ram, no EMMC, the list goes on. Screenshots for the lolz:

Oh well, sad that Huawei isn't doing anything.

OK, I found the "official" facebook page but you'll need to scroll down through "more" on their wall to find it, so I've copied the message flow below (I intend to add one of my own).
I rarely use facebook so does anyone know, if we all start adding our messages to that wall posting, will that cause it to rise to the top of their wall postings?
Should we "add as friend" the other people who say they own the X5 and have have already left messages so we can ask if they want to join us here at XDA?

Do you have somewhere to download the rom, or access to the phone or something? Some of the libs might be relevant to u8800 if for example the camera sensor is the same.
edit: found it don't worry. In case someone else is looking it's available here: http://www.huaweidevice.com/cn/down...0&attachmentName=C8800V100R001C92B821SP03.zip

Hello people, i have some questions about p8.
1. Is it possible to disable automatic HDR? or is there some camera app alternative
With working stabilisation? Usually the photos are to bright and unnatural
2. Im a bit confused about latest stable android update,
i recently updated to 5.0.1 (B200), but i read something about 5.1 version,
is there newer version except beta one?
3. Status bar color is not transparent in apps like on AOSP, can it be fixed?
Thank you very much for any answere
If you don't want/need root, go for M. The camera is awesome. Not to mention the manual mode, it's superb.
The minute we'll have root method for it, i'll upgrade.

I'm rooted, but the camera is weird, don't you experience situation when you want take photo, but you manually set light lower, but when you open photo in gallery it automatically bright it up? When I take photo in mode where it selects the best one, it's always good, also in other camera apps it's good, but they don't support stabilization, if you have any idea please share with me, thanks
PS. Android M is currently very buggy as i read, or?
I said if root is not important,i recommend M. Now i'm working on a way to root the damn thing. I just love the new camera

is the beta stable for you? everyone is complaining about it, i believe it's better but i need it working well
The only thing bothering me on M is the memory leak. Sometimes i find only 800mb ram free, but a refresh gets the memory back That's the only bug i encountered. Everything else works flawlesly. I even send a log to huawei about it and they said they know about it and looking for a fix.
Now i'm using lollipop because i need root badly for other projects i'm involved in.
PS. All major players had this memory leak bug when they updated to a newer version, Samsung, LG, Sony, HTC. Even on nexus devices it was present.

Favourably without root needed

@00471 . Not sure. Usually, i get about 3% drain over night. Maybe there are some apps keeping the phone awake or some rogue services running in the background. Check that first. @panda968 ,unfortunatelly, only the 09 version has received beta M. And there is no news about others. I think Huawei released M for the most sold model first, to receive faster feedback from users. After the final build will be released,i'm sure it will come to all versions.

Hi guys,
i'm brand new here and I just wanna say that I got brand new Huawei Mate 8 (3 GB RAM, 32 ROM). I've sold my Note 4 (910F) and so far... I'm so happy! I was scared at first but now... WOW!
Huawei is that what I was looking for. It is blazing fast, astonishing phone with multiple options that I wanted.
First of all EMUI is WAY MUCH prettier than ugly TouchWiz. I got everything what I wanted - for example Theme support. My note 4 is sooo old that samsung wont provide theme engine for my touchwiz. Thank you samsung for that btw...
Second of all - its blazing fast ! Way much faster than TW from Samsung. Less ram leak, apps are loading faster. I really like this speed... Afret flashing clean rom on samsung it was never that fast. Dunno why, its just this.
And battery life - 92% from this morning. Not bad for 6"0 inch screen. Maybe its less colour, maybe its not EPICULTRAHD resolution, but who cares... its a phone, not a TV.
Im glad that I've become a Huawei family member. It was a good chocie.
So - hello guys. I'll try to do my best to help you with your phone problems and I hope you will help me.
Good morning Huawei!
Coming from the galaxy s5 i can kind of say i know the spot you were in. Samsung phones are extremely expensive but you get very little for such a high price. Compared to the galaxy s7, the huawei mate 8 beats it in everything but camera. Honestly though, its a phone not a Nikon. The speed is due to the CPU of the phone being an in house item. Huawei made the CPU themselves so they can make the necessary optimizations to run android how they want it to run. I suggest picking up a case for the phone. Screen protector is optional. It comes with one but it has Gorilla Glass 4 on it so scratching the device would be quite difficult unless one was doing so on purpose. I suggest rooting this device and swapping the kernel governor to something other than the stock interactive governor. I use ondemand because it really gets that CPU where you want it to be and saves battery at all costs. Other than that if you have rooting trouble or unlocking trouble there are some nice threads to do a bit of looking around. Enjoy the phone!
Thanks bro for the reply. Im not sure if I will loose my warranty... I did it with samsung and my glass broke on it (famous screen delamination, i got same **** in note 2, now note 4) and they told me to FU because of 0x1 knox...
My phone came with a plastic protection on the back (they attached it) and glass protector on the front. <3 them for this.
Can i root my huawei and not loose warranty?
I used for a few weeks MIUI system, and I miss some options - for example creating my own profile for battery (turn off 4G/LTE, battery saver profile etc running from 12am-6am)
Love my mate 8. If the honor note 8 is anything close I'm buying. Need my 2k res back.
Sent from my HUAWEI NXT-L29 using Tapatalk
I am running both the Note 4 and Mate 8. Love my Mate 8 though. Battery life for the Mate is an easy 3 days for me. Note 4 is only 2 days generally.
After 3 days of using (normal use for me, sometimes internet, sometimes making some calls and texting some messages) i got 16% and i cant discharge it ! I gave up and plugged it into a charger. IT AMAIZING how long can it live!
Note 4 was dead after day and a half. Max !
I would make some changes in this phone, but still - i love it!
indeed, the only changes id want to make were software-based and thats easily taken care of with custom roms and mods

My Huawei Ascend Mate2, little over 2 years old....LOVE IT still. Still getting 2 days battery life.
Using STOCK 5.1, Nova Launcher Prime, buttery smooth, but I think it's about time for an update.
Now that the Mate8 has dropped to a reasonable price. Might be time to pull the trigger and upgrade?
Stable, long battery life and good camera quality is what I usually go for.
I know the Mate8 will be stable & long battery life. How's the camera quality?
I don't use the stock camera app, just Camera FV-5 full version.

See
The Huawei Mate 9, which will be officially announced this month, has appeared in high resolution leaked photos showing the final unit with Leica-engineered dual-camera setup.
The leaked photos are consistent with material that's surfaced previously, showcasing a big metal smartphone with a dual-camera setup, accompanied by a dual-LED flash and laser autofocus module.
The handset is rumored to have a 5.9-inch display with 1080p resolution and is to be powered by the Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 960 flagship-tier processor, paired with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. The Huawei Mate 9 allegedly runs Android 7.0 Nougat skinned with the manufacturer's EMUI 5.0 interface.

Agreed.
Plus, the Kirin 960 isn't much faster as well (for non-gamers that is as the GPU-side however is massively quicker (but current games run just fine on the 950 as well, imho)) and pretty expensive so will hold onto the Mate 8 for the time being :good:
it is all about the price about this one, I am also disspointed with the camerabump and camera modul, it looks not very stylish and not up to huawies recent standards.
I am a gamer so for personally k960 is very much neeeded. The picture abouve I still see black borders against the screen this is disappointing, I think otherwise Nubia Z9 has done very good with this and I wish all other manufactures would do the same to create borderless screen
The leaks seem to be getting confirmed (or thrown out) as the 4th approaches. On a Note 4 (but running Note 7 softwate) and have a ROM'd MediaPad X2 (which was a PITA to update) . So I like rooted Huawei devices with new ROMs so looking at 3 very different devices:
In the spirit of the thread, my first pick
- Mate 9 mostly for the great devs here. Nougat would be a bonus, and hopefully chainfires work can be brought over. Not global (or including 4g then off the list.
- LeEco LePro 3 with flash rebate it is absurdly affordable and reasonably reviewed as a whole. Only 5.5 is a real deal thinker. 5.9 on the Mate much better by leaps and jumps ahead.
- Lenovo Phab Pro 2 out (for ordering) now, but holding for the Huawei intro press conference on the 4th. Bigger (like the 6.4), much less performance wise.
Two pictures from the phone.

Two sensors (20MP+12MP) 4K video + OIS, new CPU, new GPU, Android 7.0, IR blaster, USB Type-C. Good update over Mate 8.
"Porsche Design" will be not for everyone. Especially design quite like Samsung - front main button ... and price of course.

What was that about making EMUI 5 more like a stock? LOL
Won't complain though. The light filter is the only thing I miss (no root). Let's hope we will get it too.
i like the tighter spacing in the quick settings, finally we can cram more settings in there and use the available space properly

I love my Nexus 6p but I'm starting to get the itch. I'm hoping this comes out soon tho, what do you think of the Pixel XL?
How do you have your 6p set up? ... I wanted to put on the 7.1 Pure Nexus but I'm not really wanting to do a fresh reset on my phone.
You got out of Akron you lucky dog haha

Yes, can't wait to see the Mate 9! The Pixel xl is under specs and over priced for me. I'm on Nitrogen OS N 7.1 after a clean install & all is good!
I revisit family in akron every few years, but only in the summer!

Yeah, that's how I feel about the Pixel, but it being a new phone I'm like "man, I want a new phone" haha. This 6p has me loving Huawei. Best phone I've ever had ... I may try the 7.1 Pure Nexus tonight and just bite the bullet of a clean install.
Just found this on Reddit today. Someone contacted Honor USA on Twitter via direct message and got this answer.

Honor on Facebook said we won't get emui 5.1 but a version of 5.0 with some updates to it.

I know, but this information from you came out before this guys asked honor on twitter, maybe they changed their minds?
I've contacted Honor USA by twitter and Honor Italy by facebook. Honor USA told me testually: "EMUI 5.1 will be avaible initially for P10 and P10 Plus, but we are working to get it on other devices too" it's not a confirmation, but sounds like something is moving on the Honor side. Honor Italy told me testually "About EMUI 5.1 actually we don't have any information yet, but surely the Honor 8 will receive software updates in the near future". They also didn't confirmed anything...but hey, initially EMUI 4.1 and 5.0 devices were totally excluded...now something is moving. I think it's a good sign. What do you think?

Not sure, but the original reason was due to the hardware restricted some of the 5.1 features I think.

I don't know if this helps, but I have just chatted with honor us on twitter, this was the outcome.
That Honor 8, Novas and P9s wouldn't receive the emui 5.1 update, but a major update of emui 5.0 was said by the official emui Facebook page.

So what's the big difference between EMUI 5.0 vs 5.1?
Yes but the post is from March... i asked them on May and someone else a couple o days ago. Maybe they changed their minds
In my opinion, I would rather want honor to skip Android 7.1 and skip straight to Android Or, there's no big difference between 7.0 and 7.1.

Battery life is much improved on 7.1 so I'd like to get it. My battery life on 7.0 is so bad I might have to sell this soon if there is no improvement soon.

Did you factory reset? If so, what's causing the drain? I don't lose more that 2-3% of battery during the night while I sleep. All power saving mode turned off, WiFi on, all accounts syncing turned on.

Not only did i do a factory reset on more than one occasion, I didn't install any apps and its still drains the same. I'm completely out of ideas now...

Also check to make sure you allow EMUI to close all the unnecessary apps when the screen is off.

Better to root your phone and install some real battery saving stuff. That's what I did before. Got almost 7 hrs of sot.
