Polar M600 no GPS anymore - Other SmartWatches

Hi,
I really have bad luck with my Polar M600. I bought the watch as soon as it was available. Well, first one was defective out of the box (random crashes, hangs). Got a replacement. Second one - not water resistant, defective case. Died as soon as I used it for swimming metrics. Now, third one (already got the update to Wear 2.0) will not get a GPS signal anymore. Tried everything I could think of, factory reset etc, checked settings and permissions - the watch will never get a GPS signal. Any ideas on what to try out before I return it a third time?

Go into your phone app sport profiles ans activate the gps there

I wouldn't return it. I got one that had great gps for months, and now I have the same issue you're experiencing. I'm extremely sure that the issue is due to the latest wear update. I'll post if I hear any news or find a workaround.
I do have to vent some frustration if there's a polar/google employee reading this. I HATE THIS STUPID INTERNET CONNECTED CONTSTANT UPDATING. I'm a serious runner and bought the watch not knowing it had android wear, I don't mind the features but ensuring that the watch can perform it's basic purpose as a sports tracker should be the highest priority.

Same here... My m600 was working nicely with Android wear 1.x... And then Android wear 2.0 was released and the now the gps rarely works!! They could have tested the update before rolling it out!!

[Q] GPS trouble on Acer Iconia 500

Hey,
I got an Iconia A500 about a week ago and have been moderately happy with it, except for one thing. The GPS. I've been all over the internet, through a variety of searches and found this to be a common problem. Acer's build quality is a little crappy in the case of this tablet (you get what you pay for), but the GPS is an exceptional case, it seems.
What I am trying to determine is if it is a hardware issue, or software. If it's hardware (which I suspect), I need to know before the return period runs out. If it's software, I can wait for a fix. That is my dilemma.
The first tablet I had didn't work at all. Inside, outside, sunny, cloudy, I never got ANY results on GPS Test. I have rooted the tablet and used the Fasterfix mod with no effect. So I returned it.
The second device works, but only intermittently and in ideal conditions. If there is any kind of cover (including a car roof, sun umbrella or cloud cover), the satellites disappear. What is interesting is that once a connection is established, it seems to hold onto it for a brief period after I bring it under cover. I have to leave it on my dashboard for about 2-5 minutes to get a connection, which will sustain itself for about 30 seconds after I bring it further into the vehicle. After that, the satellites disappear from the screen.
This is frustrating. It would be one thing if it was completely broken or completely working, but this intermittent stuff is driving me nuts.
So should I take it back for round 3, should I return it outright, or should I wait and hope for a software fix?
I'm otherwise happy with the tablet, despite it being a little slow to render PDF files, which I use it for regularly. I understand this is supposed to speed up with 3.1 though.
Cheers,
-PW
Make sure you upgrade to 3.1 Lots of GPS Fixes it in..
Download an App called GPS Status. its Free.. And see what and how many satellites its even getting if any. Also I do know Acer has said repeatedly for the GPS to work on 3.0 for the first time you have to be connected to a wifi access point, because the GPS is a A-GPS (Assisted GPS) However If you have Android 3.1 installed you should be good to go and no require a Access Point. I proved that one myself yesterday.
A Co-Worker of Mine had to return his Acer Tablet for the same reasons you are describing. So I wouldn't put it past a bad allotment of Tablets. But his second one ended up working. You May need to try a 3rd I wouldnt put it past it.
I have been using GPS Test, which I understand provides the same functionality as GPS Status.
I manually flash updated to 3.1 and noticed now that I've been picking up exactly 1 satellite indoors now, which is odd since I got nothing before. Now I'm even more confused.
I thought that the GPS was buggered in mine too because I opened mapdroyd and it wouldn't find my location. I decided to let it sit for a while with the app open and after about 5 minutes it locked on and stayed locked for a 40 minute drive.
I think the agps information that GPS Status was downloading was making my GPS fix times considerably worse. I removed that application and all other GPS third party applications. My fix times in google maps is much better now (about 30 seconds indoors right now tonight).
Rob
Update:
I let it sit overnight, with the screen forced on and GPS Test running. In the 40 minutes before I went to bed it didn't find anything, but in the morning (roughly 8 hours later), it had found 9 and was locked onto 3. This makes me think that the hardware is capable of seeing these things, but the software is too dumb to lock onto them or look in the right direction to find them.
Strangely enough, the 3 it locked onto had the lowest SNR. The other 6 with 25+, some over 40. What are the parameters that cause it to "lock" rather than simply be detected?
Of course, I've since relocated to work and its now not picking up anything at all. Obviously, if I have to wait 8+ hours before each use, it's not going to be a very useful function.
Maybe my almanac data is not updating. Does anyone know what the best server to use for western canada is?
Cheers,
-Chris
Another Update:
As it turns out, most of my GPS problems look to be caused by a faulty compass. That makes sense, if you think about it. A broken compass makes the almanac data useless, since the tablet has no point of reference in which to follow the directions given by the almanac data.
I tried calibrating the compass to no effect. It just kept spinning around like it was drunk. So I returned the tablet and got a new one. I'm getting better results.
An interesting note is that the sales guy at the store (Future Shop) said that GPS not working was the number one reason this tablet got returned, and he got back a lot of them. Seems there is a hardware issue after all.
Cheers,
-PW

GPS fix

My phone takes a lot of time getting a GPS fix, sometimes it doesn't succeed after minutes of waiting. I compared it to some Samsung phones, those connect within seconds...
The connection seems stable after getting a fix, but getting a fix is very hard for this phone...
Is anyone else experiencing this?
You're not the only one, mine's also broken. Looking around at the official Moto forums, it seems like this is a fairly common issue with the G4 Play.
So far stock was broken, CM 14.1 has been no better. If I use GPS Status & Toolbox it will eventually get a lock and maybe the accuracy will get down to +/-30m, but if any other app that calls for location (Google Maps, Pokemon Go, etc), if the GPS is turned on at all, it will almost never lock unless switch to GPS Status, but once it gets a lock, the accuracy will keep dropping till its greater than +/-300-400m before losing the lock and eventually the phone just shuts down GPS and stops trying. Literally not location or app settings make any difference, neither does factory reset.
I've had 2 G4 Plays so far. The first was the Amazon Prime version, it had no location issues at all and was totally rock solid, but boot loader could not be unlocked, so I sold it to a friend for his kids to use for Pokemon Go since it was a great device for that. This second one may as well not have came with GPS.
Edit: I've returned to stock and zero difference. I'm not messing with this anymore, 2.5 weeks was long enough trying to fix it, I'm replacing it through Amazon.
I was heaving issues too, changed my SIM to the second slot and it's quite better now. I even play PoGo.
Sent from my Moto G Play using XDA-Developers Legacy app
The problem is actually quite simple: The G4 Play cannot connect to Russian satellites (GLONASS). Under GPS Status and a few other apps, they are perma-greyed out. All of my LG phones connect to them just fine. What kills me is that the feature is listed under Motorola's website, and the phone knows they are there (even on CM14.1), but it simply refuses to use them.
I'm not sure of this. I used MapFactor and GPS Status & Toolbox, and the IDs of the satellites are also in the GLONASS range (https://github.com/mvglasow/satstat/wiki/NMEA-IDs). Do you have a US only version of G4 Play? I have the international version.

I can confirm my 1607 is US Retail. I tested multiple GPS apps (including GPS-S&T) and while I got signal from GLONASS satellites, it straight up refused to connect to a single one, even if the satellite had better signal than a comparable US satellite. I don't know if it's possible to flash a new modem for this model yet.
Try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.gpstest
It gave me the best fix than all the others. I don't know what this guy do but it connects to more satellites and gets a fix faster.
I also have a Moto G4 Play mobile with the same problem.
You won't believe that touching to the gps device on the back side of the phone solved the problem to some extent. I go for running every morning and I use Runkeeper to track my moves. So how much distance I cover in a day is much important for me and thus gps accuracy also. But my location is tracked like a heart rate monitor of a hospital. But one day I was experimenting with my phone and found that if I remove the back cover of the phone and touch to the part where it was written Harpia GPS S01, the signal of the gps boosted and the radius of the blue circle became shorter to about 4-8 metres that means I was getting more accuracy than before. So from that day whenever I go to run, I remove the back cover and put a finger on the gps set and the problem somewhat solved. But this was only a part of the story. My father owns a Micromax Unite 3 mobile and he also used to run daily. What to say about the latter, it gives an accuracy of unbelievable 1 metre. On the latter, the runkeeper even tracks the change of lane or the side of the road. I am just jealous of the phone even though it costs 4000 rs less than mine.

Sounds like connector failed. Someone on the Lenovo forum had theirs repaired by moto and the antenna connector was what they fixed. Betting mine (and yours) are that. I replaced mine through Amazon, so far the replacement device has been working.
I'm wondering if it's a bad design on the antenna or just manufacturing defect and bad QA on some units.

Dumb question, but if the connection is exposed upon removal of the cover, isn't it possible to tear into and reconnect/solder without taking it to a manufacturer? I mean, what I see are two screws to the right of the headphone jack, a plastic cover that says "Harpia GPS S01," and what looks like some kind of antenna watermark.

Interesting. I've just checked mine (European XT1602) and it does that, too - the GLONASS satellites are showing up, but are not being used.
When I was in stock rom after some time the gps stopped working well, don't know why. Now with Aox 14.1 is working fine, I don't understand the satellites but the accuracy is pretty good

Not seeing any active Russians on that image. Your phone might still be having the same problem as everyone else.
I've bought a xt1602 yesterday. The GPS is excellent. I get a fix in few seconds with solid signals, but without glonass.
Update on the current replacement G4 Play: GPS is starting to fail on it as well. I've hardly even used it, maybe only a dozen times in the last several weeks. So far that's 3 of 3 that are defective. I think I'm going to return this one to Amazon too, not sure I want to try a 4th.

Because the three that I see are missing values under the "Flags" column. That hints at the aGPS data being there but that the phone might not have interfaced with them. The UI says 12 of 22 sats are connected. Of the 13 US shown, 12 have all fields with information and the thirteenth is missing info in one column. Granted, all of this is conjecture.
I think u are right. Ive tested it today by myself. But ive to say that this mobile phone has got a VERY fast GPS fix, atleast where i live. (Germany)
I also have bad GPS, thing I've tried:
Reset to factory settings
Safe boot
GPS Toolbox
I will now try putting the sim card in the second slot, like suggested here on the forum. Keep you posted!
Unfortunately putting the SIM card in the second slot did not better the situation. Back to the shop...

2017 bluetooth battery drain after update(s)

Ok, I am running a Verizon galaxy s5 sg-m900v with no root (tried but hasn't worked) android 6.0.1.
The last 2 "security updates" have caused my Bluetooth to start destroying the battery. The January update caused the bluetooth to be the highest usage (about double of the next closest thing ). The Feb update seems to have doubled down and now bluetooth is 3x.
I have nothing connected to it, no fitbit, no speakers, no headphones, nothing. For about 20-30 min it does connect to my car, but I don't stream music or anything, just only if I get a call.
When I turn bluetooth off, my battery life is normal, but having to turn it off all day and remember to activate it in the car seems like a ridiculous work around. I have deleted my cache a couple of times but I have not done a factory reset.
In 2016, I had the same problem, that was tracked down to the gas buddy app constantly accessing the bluetooth ( the internet figured that out not me, I just read it). When I disabled the Bluetooth access Gasbuddy then broke so I ended up uninstalling the app altogether.
Unfortunately the search terms "bluetooth battery drain" are so generic that all I get is the threads from last year, and anything current. I already have app that tell me what apps have permission to access Bluetooth but nothing to see which app is actually using it and how much..

I'm seeing something similar on my Galaxy Note 4.
Ok, I have tracked it down, by process of elimination to either 1weather or accuweather. I used advanced permission manager to see all of the apps that hat bluetooth permission, and started uninstalling them.. the reason I can't narrow it down was because I went to uninstall one of them and accidentally click to the other one first. Since they both were on the list I figured no big deal then decided not to reinstall it and went ahead and uninstalled the right one....
Small update, at this moment I am down to 49% today after some fairly heavy use, and my Bluetooth does not even show up as having used any energy. So at this point I'm pretty much going to take this as a win.
Interesting - I've got Accuweather installed too. I'll uninstall it, and see if that makes any difference.
Just for anybody else that stumbles across this thread, I can confirm that Accuweather (Platinum, in my case) was the cause of the excessive Bluetooth battery consumption, so well done @barrysuperhawk on finding that!
I've been in touch with Accuweather, and as of 06 Mar 2017 and they "are aware of the problem", and "are actively working on a solution".
Cheers,
Steve.
Wow.... Months of having this problems, blaming every other app, and now I find this. Yup. Still not fixed. Boo.
Well the way I look at it most of these apps that keep going crazy with Bluetooth don't really have any reason to have access to Bluetooth. The fact that their app is broken and they haven't fixed it indicates to me that they don't really care if I use their app or not so I am happy to oblige by not using their app. I mean it's not like there's not competitive apps that do actually work.

Multiple Wear watches with one phone problems!

Hello everyone.
Is there anyone here with multiple Wear watches (preferably with different Wear versions) paired to a single phone?
I am wondering it it is just me, or anyone else too, that have such problems with watches.
I suspect that since the Wear app v. 2.0 started rolling out, having multiple watches (with different OSs) paired to my phone just started an armageddon.
Before official 2.0, I had devprev on huawei and 1.5 on zw3 and Gwatch. I had ZERO issues, ever. Then, Wear app v. 2.0 update came and it slowly began:
Wear app is going haywire almost every week. I shot few videos, hopefully I will be able to throw them on youtube tonight to showcase what is happening. But basically: I choose a watch and connect it in wear app. App shows connected. I leave for work. At work I notice I dont get notifications. I check the app, and it shows one of few possible screens: trying to connect.. or "Have a watch? set it up" (that is the most hilarious for me ) Or shows a page that would normally show your chosen watch, but it is blank. Everytime I close and open Wear app, it can show something different. It can also be showing "Connected" for a long time, but nothing works. You cant see battery stats, change watchface, nothing...
The last time, I even lost all my paired watches in BT settings. Wear app says "reconnect", ok, it reconnects, but actually isnt connected. Well, I am not sure about that to be honest.. Smart lock works Sometimes, watch says connected too (in Settings-About) The most faulty watches are those with 2.0. But it happened to 1.4 and 1.5 too.
As of right now, only zenwatch3 on 1.5 is working, but, I did a FR yesterday because it wasnt working
I am really f**king fed up with resetting every god damn watch every god damn week so that it can work for a week and then god damn break again!
I am so glad I still keep my Sony SW2 as a backup, this watch works just AWESOME! Wear watches are still nowhere near the ease of usability and reliability of SW2.
EDIT: I uploaded videos of said behaving:
NOone with issues with multiple watches??
Yes, only 1.5 watches still, but I get best results with only one watch powered on at a time, and only one manually chosen to be connected via BT in the phone app. Otherwise, there are frequent connect/disconnect notifications, mysterious quick battery drain, and often conflict between what the phone app says is connected, and what the icons on the watch say about the connection. I occasionally get the "set up your watch" on the phone app as well. I just back out of it, and it's ok.

Thanks, the symptoms are the same. But it is happening to me even when I have only one watch powered on and only one watch connected to phone. But, 7 watches total are paired. I am starting to think if it is something with BT 4.0 hardware limitations.

I've had one for several weeks. Absolutely love it. I've had several other Mobvoi watches, but this is the best of them all. I'm getting close to 3 days battery life with all sensors turned on, using the secondary display. I'm able to sleep with it on to use the TicSleep app. Play Store loads quickly on it, and runs smoothly. If I get a call while wearing my ear buds, the call comes in simultaneously on my phone, my buds, and the watch, giving me the option to pick which one to answer the call. No other watch has ever responded that quickly to calls. All in all, a great watch. Well worth the expense.

Ticwatch Pro 3 gps
Just received my Ticwatch Pro 3 gps and loving it so far. Took 20 days for delivery, what they didn't mentioned when ordering, they stated 4 to 6 days from ordering, but ok. On the Mobvoi forum, i have read some disturbing post on the watch and poor customer service from Mobvoi. But isn't that with all forums, you just only complain if something is wrong, not if everything works ok. Well have fun with the watch!
Hello.
I hope for a few opinions from the owners of the watch, which are a consequence of yesterday's software update?
Been using mine for a month. This is what a wearos watch should have always been. Great batt life, fabulous display. Got a deal for $200 direct from mobvoi, pre ordered.
Sounds like a good wear os watch...
I pre-ordered this watch and have had it around 5 weeks now.
This is my first wearOS watch by choice. I waited for a processor that was half decent and that came with the Snapdragon Wear4100.
This watch lasts be between 2.5 to 3 days with me doing a GPS tracked walk every evening for around 1 hour, 24 hour heart rate monitoring, constantly connected via Bluetooth to my phone.
This watch also doesn't have the latest WearOS update that is supposed to improve app opening times etc but even without that, this watch is smooth and it doesn't feel like there are lags anywhere.
There isn't a custom ROM yet but if they come in time this watch would only get better.
In short, if you want a WearOS watch, this is a clear winner and overall great watch.

My watch arrived a few hours ago, delighted so far - but I'm unable to register on the Mobvoi site, no matter what I enter the page always gives the error "Please enter correct phone".

EDIT: and the answer is - you enter your email address in the field marked "Phone number" (!)
Just got mine today and it's a nice watch. My first one too. The announced endurance, récents update of the os, the price, the snapdragon and the two screens convince me to finally buy one. Waiting for a really good one since the firsts Lg watch. Hope it will work for a long.
Calls are clear, large choices of apps and themes.
I think I'll buy another bracelet and an protection glass. If anyone had one to recommend.
Fr customer.
It's been more than a week with the watch and I'm impressed with everything around it. Many applications and sensors for everything that interests us in everyday life. Responds quickly to everything, when receiving notifications and when making calls, the screen responds immediately without delay.
I got mine yetserday.. gods I missed the wearOS line.. so glad I'm past my Tizen device now.
Some questions though:
whats happened to the gestures?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WhKuklpQ9A
I dont seem to be able to do the "perform an action" "dip" Gesture anymore
Also where is the setting that "lights up" the grey screen? I don't seem to have that option
*Edit* Fixed this, had to turn OFF the "Tilt to Wake" to get the light up...
If i understand your question, this gestures are in Settings/ Gestures/ For navigation.
On another question for lighting in FTN screen, there is no option to change time to light.
We have option to disable the light on ftn screen, just set theater mode from quick buttons.
For light, set tilt to wake OFF.
What is for you dip gesture?

The "Dip" gesture let you dip your hand down to "open the notification"
and the reverse "lift" gesture to close the opened app (go back essentially)
These two dont seem to be on WearOS anymore
Hi, anyone got this issue?
I try to test the watch to less than 5%, but it doesn't automatically switch to essential mode. Anyone know what might be wrong? I have tried to set it in the essential mode apps but seems doesn't change a thing. Thanks

hart reset
does someone know, how to really hart reset the ticwatch pro 3 gps? I played around with these adb commands and the normal hart reset via system does not bring the whole system back. I would like to wipe out of a recovery modus ? I played around, because my battery time was incredible: just one day juice ... tried to deinstall the whole tic - system, but something went wrong, from now, I´ve got no sensor activities!
Thanks in advance

There are a lot of issues with the sensors at the moment, including myself after the latest firmware;
Since i am a new user I cannot link to an external site. But:

Pretty happy with mine but my only gripe is I'm not getting notifications for the Messenger app. And searching for the app in play store on the watch comes up with nothing.
Anyone else having the same problem?

I have TWP model 2019 and TWP 3. Activating a watch with Redmi Note 8T is a horror. When successful, the watch does not work as a handsfree. After attempting to make a telephone connection from the watch, the BT pairing is canceled and he must reset both the watch and the phone to reconnect it. Various discussions suggest that this is a common problem. Does anyone know the solution?
