Overclock GPU/CPU - P8lite Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I wanna overclock somehow this phone, mainly cuz it's capable of alot, but huawei decided tot underclock everything. I made 2 pictures about some script lines, if i change the cpumaxprofile and gpumaxprofile value, that make it flashable zip, everything can be allright, or i need to change other values too?
http://imgur.com/a/FB7c0 - stock
http://imgur.com/a/cM3HD - modified(only gpu to 500,working well, but I want cpu to 1.3 and GPU to 533)
Maybe it is cappable even at 533mhz, but I will pus it only to that value if it will be stable, at stock voltage etc. http://imgur.com/a/TlJaS
If everything goes well, i will publish a zip for it.
Or can someone modify it? I can upload the zip with 500MHz modified if you want...

Flash the FIX zip
Here it is, it's a stable 500MHz patch from 450,i guess.
Later wanna test even higher values, 3dmark score are 57xx (5726 max if I remember correctly)

This patch does overclock the CPU too, no?

Also, this patch works on emui 4.0?

Sadly, no... Only GPU patch. I'm not sure about the CPU 'limit' and this is why FOR now I don't wanna look at it
Yes, it works on emui 4, even emui 4.0.3,even on sokkoban roms

This thread is very intersting, why don't you put in in the General or Android Development forums?
But still, I want CPU overclock so muchchhchc
P.S. I think I am sure about this, and if you overclock the CPU too much the voltages it would be too high and the CPU will fry, no? Or it will heat very much?
And now I remeber my older question: Does the GPU heat up more if I install this patch?

This mod doesn't overclock your GPU...500MHz is already available for scaling if you see gpufreq file in /sys/ folder..
This mod only makes use of it on more places ....Almost all places....
You too can configure it independently on basis of your needs......It can't overclock your device...
Maybe a custom kernel can

Indeed. Playing with this file is not going to help you to achieve a higher frequency than 1.2GHz for the CPU or 500MHz for the GPU, it's actually harder than that, and even if you overclocked it, it wouldn't suppose a big difference.

@XePeleato finally you're here This zip, as you can know, just "unlock" the "locked" mhz from huawei... Maybe you can make an "overclock" version for GPU/CPU ? We would all like it, for the new rom, B596...
"As you can see, even 3DMark detects that my score is higher than the average, try to beat that with stock kernel!"
Challenge Accepted, Stock kernel, 5738 Ice Storm ....

With sokkoban v2 rom , stock kernel and no GPU overclock .

It didn't......Unlock the locked ....
I think it was from B584 when huawei white listed this app 3dmark and some other benchmark apps to use 500Mhz GPU and 1200Mhz CPU.......See through the stock files thoroughly and you'll get it... here is the screen shot BTW from stock normal_cpu_policy in system/etc/
And yes overclocking might not be possible with EMUI......maybe with lineage OS ......as in emui these things are locked in an image called mcuimage and that isn't....According to my knowledge even possible to change....even with Custom kernel....If XePeleato does it.....That would be a miracle

I would suggest, since you are already running 7.0, check the link Kyrillos ROM v7.1 and update your ROM to v7.1 (its so much better, though optional), post that Flash G3Mod v 1.6 Kernel.
Then using Set CPU you can OC more than 800 Mhz.
Note : Dont forget to read the instructions carefully for Kyrillos 7.1 ROM, G3Mod Kernel and SetCPU.....remember, you do all this at your own risk..check my signature for my stats...

Go to 7.1 link given above, and save the file in your SD Card and rename it as update.zip
Then from CWM recovery, install it and you would have 7.1 (read the link, you got to have 7.0 installed to install 7.1, which u already have)
2ndly as far as OC goes, no one would want to have their cell die..my question is Do you guarantee that OC at 800 Mhz will not make ur phone dead? (just a food for thought, dont make this bug you )
What i normally do is, using SetCPU i OC only while playing game..i normally keep it as 600-1200 MHz, on demand.....after I am done...i set it back to 200-800 Mhz on demand...and I normally play for a couple of hours at stretch...nothing has happened to my phone so far...but at the same time, I know when you run at max speed, you are bound to tire early....decide what you want more

I am surprised...you sure have not visited the link for 7.1 and read the changelog for what all has been updated vis-a-vis 7.0.(though as stated in my 1st post to you above, it is optional, what you need to decide is whether to have a Kernel which lets you to overclock, if at all you intend to overclock at higher values.)....have what suits you cheers mate.

thx for this help !
I'm looking forward to do this update (didn't know it was possible with that zip)
Some Q:
- Will it keep all installs, settings and apps as they are now? (I have K7.0-OC)
- I have G3-1.7 (looking forward to the battery fix), won't it harm this kernel or will of flash the fugumod again? (and do I need to reflash afterwards?)
- I have ext4 with many installs, won't it be damaged after updating?
- I don't have a swap, is it needed? Does it make a difference? (in the g3mod app I've set all to ext4, does this move the swap to ext4? It's 500Mb and half used by now...)
I wouldn't want to ruïn my system now, since it's finally running (not always smooth, dough...)
I suggest using fugumod ultra as that has an OCed bus so games wont lagg.

SWAP is used as a temporary memory, it is only optional, so choice is yours, I had it in past, right now, i dont have it on my configuration.

If its not running smooth, why do you worry about not ruining it, you can try various things on the forum, and you will have finally known, what to keep and what not to!

I installed, but it didn't ask for wiping (do I HAVE to do it manualy, because it's better not of course, now that I have everything installed.)
Also, I think it makes my phone slower :-/

Dont worry about the quadrant score, its misleading.
You can get a higher quadrant score by some tweaks, but more importantly.
See if your phone is more responsive, much faster, no lags, no freezes. If it is there, quadrant doesnt matter.

Brother, it does not ask for wiping, you have to do it manually...Also Supercharger doesnt work for me however lagfix does, but again I would say more than quadrant score, you should be concerned about the performance of the phone and responsiveness.

Both kernels are smooth. Good job to both of you! :good:
But like any device you have CPU Bins... My bin may be the same as Flar2's and your bin may be different...
Case in point... I cannot O/C my Nexus 6 with Flar2's kernel but it runs smooth. Agitates my I cant O/C but its smooth so I cant really complain.
Benchmarks are just for bragging rights anyways! How the every day usage feels is the important part. I think the two kerenls (yours and his) are equal for daily usage!
I would recommend either. They are both great!
Wish I had Kernel skills like that! Im just a ROM guy
I have stock nexus 9 decrypted, elemental x kernel OC to 2499 an GPU of to 984, deadline scheduler... Can't ever seem to get more than 58k....
So weird that the USB host guy says "stock ROM with elemental kernel" and Gert's like a 67k out the gate.
I cant even Check the CPU BIN because this is an Nvidia chip and that info isn't stored in the same place in android as it is ith Qualcomm chipsets.

Gotta ask, did you fix the sleep of death issue? From version 1.9 too 2.2 my phone, either in sleep or in use, will lock up after a few hours and I have to force restart it. Clock speeds and everything else is irrelevant as there was something wrong in the kernel itself. Anyways thanks for continuing the development. The kernel was amazing besides the hangs
MIUI Stock Kernel with Overclock
*Sorry for my bad english
Can you make MIUI Stock kernel with adding CPU freq 2,3 Ghz Big Core ,2,2 Ghz Little Core CPU, and GPU to 650 Mhz ? ,
I just discovered that removing Thermal config in /etc/thermal-engine-8996.conf boost performance and stability for playing emulator game like Tekken 6 and Monster Hunter P3rd (both with OpenGL), and Digimon World 4 (Dolphin Emu) yet raising CPU to 64 degree Celcius,
I just Wanna know that adding 2,3 Ghz and 650 Mhz is really boost more perfomance for emulator or not.
can you add voltage control?op3t and mi5 have this funcation, and what about miui version

I don't think it support OC.
I think we need to ask dragonxia or whoever maintain this kernel
I can't find it on github
I got it from here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=168633

What app is this and where can i get it? :3

ROM Performance comparison table

Table of Geekbench results
I was surprised about EUI too.
Suggest what ROMs to test next and other stuff.
If you want to suggest your test make sure:
Your installation have NO tweaks/other stuff installed(except if it is kernel which is required for MIUI to function normally)
Your installation have only Geekbench 4 app and nothing else
Run test 2 times, and post a screenshot of 2nd test there.
I did a little mistake: typed Overdose kernel instead of Overload
Fixed it now
Nice work :good:

Lol it seems you made the Los 14 test with sleeping big cores. Could you also give the dark rom score with sleeping big cores, as you said no tweeks are allowed...
or is this the first nougat rom where this problem is solved?

When I say "no tweaks are allowed" I mean that user shouldn't apply anything after flash, except something that is necessary to make ROM work, like kernel in MIUI, gapps in DarkROM. I did not installed anything except OpenGAPPS into DarkROM.
*shrug*

Just want to tell you you are comparing wrong somehow, if you give a Los14 score with 2500 for cpu as mine was 3900.
But ok, enjoy yourself

Sorry, I now noticed the score was already for carbon rom, but Los14 wasn't far away as I remember.
Lol I don't care about the speed of any Nougat Rom as long as big cores go asleep without root controls.
So I don't want to participate in your table which is filled with some kind of lottery numbers
Thx for your work anyway, would have been a nice idea if it has been done correctly.
Which is meaning every phone should be left on with display off for half an hour and then you can run geekbench.
As it seems you don't know what I am talking about I am already tired of posting my thread link:
