Help with a stupid decision!! - Samsung Galaxy J5 Questions & Answers

I was there, modifying my J5 when I, in a stupid decision turned on the OEM Lock again in the Developers Settings!!
Now the phone refuses to boot and only Download mode works
Should I try to ''download'' a stock ROM through odin??

Flash stock rom trough Smart Switch! You need a computer connected to internet, you need a cable to connect you phone in download mode and the latest samsung drivers installed on the computer. Smart Switch, after you initiate an emergency software recovery, will automatically download and flash the stock rom for you. It will also wipe everything you have except internal data.

Unfortunately, I give priority to offline procedures, since I don't have internet at home, and my PC is completely offline

There is no other way to solve your problem other than flashing stock rom like it was mentioned in previous post as far as i know.
You can download stock rom through Updato for faster download and use Odin to flash it. I dont know how fast download Smart Switch as ive never used it, but if you wanna use Odin method, then use Updato.
You have network since you have posted here .

In such cases I always do buck up of my custom or stock roms!

DEV[Q] Clairification GT-P5113 Stock ROM and ODIN counter reset

I have a new shiny tab, was reading up on the counter reset, and my question is what has changed about the GT-P5113 or variant tabs, that prevents access to the block where the counter resides, i am a linux user and would be willing to help figure this out, and second isnt their a way to clone the stock ROM for the P5113, not refering to nandroid, meant more a zip in case someone botches their tab, again with a little direction id love to help, the dev forms restrict me from posting there
you should see a thread about TRIANGLEAWAY ,it is an application made by chainfire which resets the binary counter for SALAXY NOTE ,S2 AND S3 ,you should contact him for further info
Ok so i got the ball rolling sent a PM to chainfire, second part of the question if anybody knows, ive always been curious how to clone the stock ROM and turn it into a plain zip in case i blow my machine away, the p5113 wifi only doesnt have one for itself we got to use the p5100 image, now with the unroot zip and great work already done it will be easier to do, some general guidence on the general steps would be nice, id love to help i have ample experience in linux windows and have flashed many devices just never helped much in the ROM developement, any help would be great thankx xda....

The download mode is not the first screen you see with the bootloader. You need to volume up or down to make a selection.

I'm not using CWM mode before I plug in the

The directions say enter Odin Mode with

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) - Rooting failed (Odin stuck), need to recover

Hi all,
So I've decided to root my Exynos International Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) using Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root. All went well until Odin got stuck at cache.img, then fails after a couple of minutes. I unplug the phone and restart it, it then displays "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again" whenever I try to boot. I can access download mode again, but not recovery. My phone is stock 4.2.2.
It's the first time I have such a problem, I flashed a couple of phones before without any trouble. I searched XDA for a solution and tried other Odin versions, different cable/ports, even tried on another computer: Same issue. Stuck at cache.img. I can't get my phone to work again. Some people suggested it might have something to do with USB debugging, but I can't remember if I left it enabled or disabled.
I didn't back any of my data (I didn't expect the root to fail...) and retrieving my phone, rooted or not, is of the utmost importance. Please avoid posting solutions that involve data loss.
Feel free to ask about anything I might have left out.
Thanks!

I think you'll have to flash an official Sammy Firmware to get past the error, although if you look in the Note 3 Android Development, I recall seeing some deodexed, rooted firmware that is supposed to work from Odin. Not sure if any of them are for exynos version though.
Data? I keep everything I can on the extSD for exactly this reason. You should be able to remove the card and put it in a card caddy and read it in a PC and copy out your media etc. The root process shouldn't have overwritten anything you need.
For rooting, maybe DL the SuperSU zip file Chainfire's website and flash it in Recovery once you're up and running? I use TWRP but Philz or CWM recoveries will do it.

I see. So in newbie terms, if I flash the official firmware I have from SamMobile, I should have my phone back running with all my apps & data? Also, any hint about why rooting didn't work in the first place?
After this tragic experience with Odin, I'm gonna forget root for now, maybe update to Lollipop then think about rooting again.
Thanks for replying !

Did the official firmware work when you did it? If so, download Phone INFO Samsung from Play and use it to check what hardware you actually have.
I have had issues with CF-Auto root recently so I flash Stock, then the TWRP md5 file (in Odin 3.09) then I boot into Recovery and flash SuperSU. That gives me Recovery and root. You normally have to run SuperSU when you start so it can update.
U[pdating to LP is a good idea - most of the things going on in Dev are now LP versions.

I didn't flash the official firmware ever. Before trying to root with Odin and getting it stuck, I never flashed or modified anything internally on this phone.
Obviously, I can't use Phone INFO because my phone is stuck at BSOD.
I will upgrade to Lollipop, once I can get my phone working as it was. For now I'm still hesitating to flash the official firmware. I don't know if that would wipe the apps or just get back the phone as it was.

It will wipe Apps and Data - it makes your phone like you just bought it.
I didn't realise it was stuck in that mode - just thought that happened whenever you tried to flash something.
First thing. Turn phone off. Take back off and remove battery for 10 secs or so. Turn it on holding down Vol Down + Home + Power - release when DL screen shows and press Vol Down. If that gets you into the phone, spend some time saving your data to extSD.
I use Call Logs Backup & Restore, SMS Backup & Restore, I export my Contacts to ext storage. I use TiBu to backup all my apps to a folder on extSDCard. If you are on Stock ROM, you should be able to set your camera to save to extSDCard but you need a file explorer (I use ES File Explorer) to copy your current DCIM folder across - other than that, look for music, documents and video folders on internal memory)
If it doesn't open the phone for you, & your data is important, take card out and use adapter to save data onto a computer.
Go to Sammobile and download the proper official firmware for your phone - note you need to set up a free account before you can DL.
Download Odin 3.09 Run Odin
Then repeat the phone process but this time press Vol Up when at the DL screen. It is important to have the phone Off and electrically flat before attempting a firmware update.
Connect phone to PC - Odin should recognise it. If it doesn't you probably need the Samsung USB Drivers so get them and install them.
Then connect phone again. Click AP and find your DL from Sammobile. Wait for it to load then press Start. Wait... it will reboot and usually sits on the logo for quite some time.
Set up your phone, and restore or reinstall your apps.

Thank you, I just tried going into download mode and pressing vol down, still get the same BSOD. I guess that means phone cannot be recovered as it is...
I'm backing up my stuff now. I have no problem backing up contacts/SMS/etc.., but can you tell me whether I can still back up applications and restore them as they were using Titanium Backup on PC ? I know this should have been done before even soft-bricking my phone, but since it inaccessible to run the app on it...
I already have the official firmware waiting to be installed, just need to be sure about TiBU and that I backed up everything correctly Thanks for answering !

That depends... TiBu can only recover what you've saved (obvious I know...) and only if it didn't get wiped in the new firmware flash. (which it will if you didn't choose extSDCard for the backups)
Other than that, once your phone is set up and your Google account active, Play Store will DL all your apps.

Unfortunately it's a Play Store app, so first you have to get your phone working.
You could try the attached from Recovery but I have no idea if it would work as it's from my rooted CM12.1 system.

The only other thing I can think of would be using ADB over USB but I don't know if that would work with DL mode or if it is only for Recovery. You'd have to search and learn how to use it.
So maybe time to just get the phone working and make sure for future you have backups?

SOLVED. I can't believe how easy it was. I was about to flash it over from scratch but then it struck me.
Chainfire ships Odin with all its root bundles, a version where you cannot untick "Auto Reboot". Because of Auto Reboot being ticked, Odin freezes at "cache.img". It might not freeze for some people but for me, having Auto Reboot activated causes the freeze
Downloading a different version of Odin (any version, I used 3.09) that allows changing parameters and LEAVING EVERYTHING UNTICKED BUT F. RESET TIME works like a charm.
Don't forget to reboot your phone after Odin displays PASS or RESET (Long press power).
I'm going to PM Chainfire about this, and tell a max of people about it.
Thank you for your support
EDIT: Also going to NANDroid my phone. I'm tired of panicking over failed roots

Is there a way to back up my data from my s7e without booting it completely?

Hi guys,
my s7edge suddenly went into a continuous restart loop today. I'm only able to control the phone for around 10seconds before the phone hang and starts rebooting.
Tried going into safe mode but still the same.
My s7e's and Exynos version , Nougat 7, not rooted, no custom rom.
I've no problem going into the recovery mode, it won't reboot there.
I've sent to the customer service center and they offered to change the motherboard and battery under warranty.
I've a few photos and documents that I would like to retrieve can I back up my phone without having to fully boot it ? Through recovery mode perhaps ? Not familiar with all these but I'm willing to learn.
So far the only method I'm able to do is to boot it up, quickly upload a file online bfore it reboots. Repeating the cycle for each file..
Hope I'm able to recover them completely.
Thanks in advance.
Going into download mode and flashing firmware with odin?
Just dont forget to double check your model number, and if you use HOME_CSC file instead of CSC file your phone will not be wiped.

Can I flash firmware with Odin without downloading anything into my phone? I've read about flashing odin that i need to download some files into my s7edge first.
Developer mode is already enabled tho.
After flashing Odin, what should I do to back up the data?

No you dont need to download anything to the phone. You need to boot to download mode by pressing home button+power+volume down at same time while the phone is off. You will see the download mode.
Before that you download your rom to your computer using sammobile or samfirm. Samfirm is faster btw. You can check the tutorial here. Load appropriate files to appropriate spots in odin then connect your phone in download mode via usb. start and wait a couple mins. https://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30800
btw download odin from here, it is more up to date version. http://odindownloader.com/download/odin3-v3-12-5
for backup, u can use samsung cloud for anything , google photos for free backup photos on cloud. And also, for solid backup on pc, I use smartswitch. It backs up pretty much anything except app data. ie you need to login all apps and will lose your game progress etc.

Hi thanks for the reply !
Okay i'll follow the steps above.
But as for the backup, i'm unable to use the above listed options as the phone will restart in within 10secs+- once i'm in the home screen.
And if i flash custom recovery, it will void my warranty right?

oh sorry I just realised the point of the conversation. I thought you are trying to boot it to backup didnt realised your mo-bo is faulty. This may cause further issues with your files if installion fails. So maybe u should do reflashing as a last option . And yes, u can back up data thru a custom recovery but it will void your warranty. Did you try asking sammy's help?

Hmm okay.. yeah I've been to the customer service center, they offered to replace the motherboard and battery under warranty. but need to wait for 2-3days for the stock to arrive.
I've asked about data recovery but they said they're not providing such service anymore due to the latest "data privacy act" of our country, hence they're unable to do that ><
I'll try ask them and see if with consent can they perform that or not.

I'm likewise trying to recover my USERDATA partition as my phone flipped out a few days ago. I literally did nothing to it... i went to bed with it working fine, and woke up to a boot loop. I suspect it may be a wonderful android update everyone is talking about. I really dont understand how an update could screw up partitions, but here i am Anyways, you are probably looking to use the DD utility. If it figure it out or someone points me in the right direction I'll pass it along to you.

You can't apply stock updates on a rooted device with custom recovery, you have to have stock recovery and an unmodified system partition.
If you can't get to download mode then you might have to send the device to a shop that can perform a JTAG service on the device.

I didn't say that you couldn't flash stock in custom recovery.
I said, you can't flash "stock updates" on a rooted device, it requires stock recovery and an unmodified system partition. You just didn't understand.
There ARE, however, stock ROMs that have been converted into flashable zips that can be flashed in custom recovery, but this won't help you right now.
If you can get to download mode then you can flash your full stock firmware via Odin.

Expert help needed

Don't ask me how, I installed wrong Rom on my edge 7, as result, no USB connection.
So can't use Oddin to replace ROM and of course can't root.
Also, all rooting app fails, I guess because they recognize it as a different device.
A part of that the device works great, but I can't do any updates and I have a challenge...
Any ideas?

Download a suitable ROM onto the phone internal memory or onto SD card. Flash the ROM via twrp. Giving details of your phone helps too if you want tailored advice.

Phone model number? What did you install? was it an odin flash? or a twrp flash? can it still be detected by your computer in download mode? did you enable usb debugging on your current ROM?

Hi,
Phone is Galaxy S7 Edge SM-G935F
Have no Idea what was installed...
I believe it was kernel - I attached a picture of the SFTWR details
Don't know if it was ODIN or ZIP
I can put phone in Download mode, but it is not detected - well if it was, then I could have reflash it with ODIN
And yes, USB debugging is ON
try kingroot to get root easily, then use a
twrp app to flash recovery and finally go to rwcovery, wipe everything, flash proper rom
every rom thread has an i fo about models how did you manage to flash the wrong one? if you too lazy to read you need a lot of money to repair damages ^_^
