I pre ordered the G6 from Sprint and when I got it, it came with Android Messenger pre installed as the default texting app. I want to revert it to the default LG stock messaging app but there isn't even an option for it. Can anyone help?

Go to Application Manager > Choose one of your Messaging apps > Message app > see all messaging app > choose app to (Default)
It's not there. Even ATT shows a tutorial on how to customize text however, like the op said, my brand new LG G6 from Sprint seems to only have this super simple ans basic "Messenger". Very annoying things we enjoy keep get taken away so we can all be like cookie cutter phones with the same apps...
Ps: I's not in application manager. I saw Messenger from facebook and Messenger from Google.

I had the problem for a couple days after getting my hero. I connected it to my task killer. Here's some stuff you can try.
reboot and try agian
make sure auto recieve is on
update your prl
download 3rd party messenger app
restore to stock
if still screwed up... contact sprint
I haven't had the first problem with my sms's after rooting and installing a modaco's rom
Make sure you enable auto-retreival of sms and mms in whatever messaging app you're using and report back to us.
well i updated the prl. i have no idea what that is, but apparently it worked. did that and rebooted and it seems to be working fine now.

Few steps:
1. Go in to the default Messaging app > Menu > Settings and uncheck retreive sms and mms > uncheck notifications
2. Home > Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage > Messaging > Clear Defaults
3. Go to the people app, do like your going to send an sms message, a pop up will come up asking which app yyou'd like to do this from > check-mark default and select your preffered messaging app
4. paypal me $1

oh hell... i just learned something new... thanks!
UPDATE: BALLS!!! it don't work... :/
what does work is under people > contact > hold down on send message and you can choose default
I just started having this problem after doing the root and modaco rom. I have tried a PRL update, hard reset, and numerous soft resets, verified my auto-receive settings and have tried the stock app as well as handcent.
Any ideas?

Notifications are turned off by the following:
Go into the Default Messaging app (HTC's buggy one)
Menu > Settings > Scroll Down and Uncheck Notifications

Are you saying you removed the stock messaging application? If so, my understanding is that would be very problematic at best. Unfortunately the Hero still uses some code from the default Messaging app (even if you are using Handcent SMS or Chomp and have it set as the default SMS client)
"Long time listener. First time caller"
not the stock messaging app, the stock app
So, the more I'm reading about this issue, the more it appears this is possibly a permanent problem on the device once it appears. I have tried everything and cannot receive a text.

Can you provide a list of all the sprint/stock stuff that you removed?
So I called sprint tech support today. The tech was pretty helpful and seemed to be familiar with the hero. After 30 mins of various tests he came to the conclusion that I had originally suggested (bluetooth causes low ROM) and asked me to exchange the phone at a local store because htc wants this "batch" of phones back.
I find it hard to believe this issue is limited to a "batch" of phones as that would indicate that they know exactly what is causing the problem and would be able to fix it.

Hey everyone, I'm diggin the gtizzle other than one small problem. Everytime I want to send a pic (on stock messaging app) it always shows as a slide show..I never had this problem on my g1 and can't figure it out, a friend said you can send a pic that isn't a slideshow using handscent but I don't like that app, any other solution?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Nope. I just set handcent to look like the messaging app. Problem solved. I'm assuming they'll fix this in an update.
Handcent is really way better tho. You should just set it as ur default app..
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I use ChompSMS because I've always preferred it over the native app. I just want the LED in the speakergrill to be enabled so I can use my color coded alerts again. There are a few software bugs already causing pretty big issues so I am hoping an OTA update is on the way soon
Is there any way to unassociate a file-program relationship?
Allow me to elaborate...
I used handcent for texting on my g2. I sold that yesterday and got a mt4g, but I have a problem. When I installed it on my g2 and first opened a text, a message popped up and asked me which program I wanted to use and I clicked handcent. Ever since then I never had a problem with it on my g2, it would always open my texts with handcent. But when I opened a text on my mt4g it didn't ask but I didnt think anything of it at first. But i noticed now that when I get a text, i get 2, one for the stock app and one for handcent. Is there any way to "unassociate" the program with the text files? So then my stock messaging app won't work? i also tried going to "manage applications" and tried to uninstall the stock app but the box is greyed out and you cannot delete it, nor did I know if this was a good idea or not.
TIA
Disable notifications in stock app and you should be good to go.
1. Go to Manage Apps, find stock messages.apk and click the "Clear Defaults" button at the bottom
2. Use titanium if you wanna freeze or uninstall Messages.apk (not recommended since messages.apk have the auto-retrieve option for SMSs)
3. And yes disable any notifications in Settings of stock app
My service provider is Bell Mobility. My firmware is Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), and the Messenger app version is 1.7.050, which is up-to-date.
I'm intending to send out group messages as a single conversion rather than each recipient getting individual messages. I don't see the 'Group Messaging' option in the advance settings page of the Messenger App however; and my SIM does recognize my number since it's in the 'SIM status' page.
Oddly enough though, the option is present in the settings of the Hangouts app.
Any way to enable it in the Messenger app? I know there's alternatives to use other messaging apps, but I prefer to use Messenger, and want to use all the features it's suppose to offer.
My friend had similar problem on his Galaxy S5. He didn't have color changing option. So he just uninstalled the Messenger app and reinstalled it. That fixed his problem.

Gave that a shot but no dice. Also doubled check my APN to make sure all MMS settings are good.

Oh sorry I thought you meant Facebook Messenger. I didn't know about group chat feature on Google Messenger though ?
Just got the LG G6 from sprint but the LG messaging app is missing on the phone there is only the (google) android messaging install.
I have been trying to install the LGUSMms.apk and the Messaging_com.android.mms.apk but it keeps telling me that App not installed. The package appears to be corrupt.
what can i do, I hate the google messaging..
I think this is by design. Sprint is the only carrier to fully support Android messenger. I bet they worked a deal with LG to not include LG messaging.
I think so too but the demo LG G6 in the sprint store has the regular messaging app

If it's not a vendor display, then the demo should be the same unit you get. You probably should bring it to the store and ask for an exchange... (and an explanation)
Why would you want an inferior sms experience? The Android Messages app is excellent.
But anyways, in case you were wondering, from https://blog.google/products/android/partnering-global-carriers-upgrade-sms/ :
"all new Android devices from Sprint will come with Messenger for Android preloaded as the default SMS and RCS messaging experience. "
call sprint an they told me that android messaging is the default app for new phones on sprint network.
that sucks b/c i don't like the google messaging app due to the fact that you cannot send vcard contact with google messaging.

That sucks. Messenger uses data, not cell. So let's say you walk into a hospital, Best Buy, or some other large building where you lose data, but not cell service. Your sh** out of luck when it comes to texting.
Use Silence.

I have a feeling Android messenger even with RIC would default to SMS if there was no data

Hmm. I don't know about that. Have you read what the app is capable of sending? But, you never know.

Well yes, but I think there is a just in case for instance where you don't have data
The reason for this is that Sprint is all in with Google on RCS which the G6 supports. Only the default android messaging app will support it.
