I'm considering getting a G6 from AT&T and I'm curious if there's any chance it'll be unlockable. I haven't had an unlockable bootloader in three phones now and really missing it.
yeah you can count out on that on ATT\ VZW

"count out on it" is a confusing way of saying 'no'. but thanks for the response. this is sadness
It shows that I can unlock my G6 from the developer menu like you do for the Nexus devices. I haven't hit the button yet since we don't have TWRP or Root.

But if you run
Fastboot oem unlock
It won't work, most likely. All phones have that option

Would be worth a shot. I have the option on my S7A but I don't have proper fast boot because Samsung <.<
IF it does get unlocked and rooted ill buy another.
Not sure why so negative. The LG v20 is currently being supported by team lineage along with older g5 g4 g3 g2 and older LG tablet. For the price the G6 is going for right now on at&t half off this month only I'm certain this is the best time to get in on new technology that's currently missing from my G3
The zero development for this device is why I'll be going back to HTC with the U 11.
the 870 bootloader was just unlocked by LG.... hopefully they follow history and unlock the US version next (870 is European I believe)
Greg
Let me know. LG-H871
I wish my h871 unlocked

LG should be offering the option like HTC Dev and Moto Dev to be able to manually unlock the bootloader. I am not sure if Samsung offers an option to manually unlock the bootloader but all the OEMs should give the customers a chance to manually unlock the bootloader.
So it seems that LG is finally officially unlocking the bootloader.
So far only on some G4s but i think this will come also to the G3.

Is there anything we can't do with bump unless we have unlocked bootloader?

I hope so
Here is LG's Bootloader unlock website. I guess keep an eye out here for when they add more devices, hopefully they add the G3.
http://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?resourceId=RS00000875
So what(if any) implications will an official bootloader unlock have for those who have Bump'd? Will ROM dev's have to provide two versions of their ROMs - one for official unlock and one Bump'd?
I guess we can all use flashtools unroot unbump and start from scratch, if we do get a boot loader unlock from LG
This will never come to the US due to carrier restrictions. If you are outside of the US, there might be a small glimmer of hope.

I am unable to boot into bootloader on ATT model :/
Lol as expected from Sprint and AT&T. Dont get me wrong, i wish they had bootloader unlocked because the more bootloaders unlocked for different carriers, the more chances to duplicate the amount of developments/roma/mosa/kernels etc.... Now, having only Tmobile as the only one with unlocked bootloader, well, devs who use carrier such as AT&T and Sprint might get further away from developments on LG V20. (I'm a LG V20 Tmobile variant owner)
im not to familiar with LG, but the correct way is to power off the device, hold volume down, insert USB cable?
one would think even if locked, it could still enter the bootloader. adb works, and when i reboot recovery, i get to recovery, but when selecting reboot bootloader, the device starts. interestingly enough, it will enter in adb sideload mode
With Google obviously not wanting unlocked handsets or rooted handsets to be common... This kind of thing is going to be the norm. Best to adapt, in the long term. The days of modding are being ended by Google

For the time being. As SafetyNet gets more common, Google will quit making them unlockable.
Granted i preordered my v20 expecting to run it unrooted stock.

time to return it!
Just a thought. A method over use getting around big red in the past . I purchased unlock able version of the the phone I wanted the note 5 . Umocked it rooted it . Then got my carriers Sim card and called to get it activated. It can be a pain but it can be done

This is not true. VS995 is not officially supported on the LG Site: https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev
They simply found a way to do it unofficially, and this has been fixed with security patcher afaik

So I got this little puppy free today.
What I've noticed so far, outside of having no service...
There is no OEM Unlock in developer options. All tricks to get it to work (moving the date up 8 days) doesn't work because the device won't give the options for software updating to be done manually.
Anybody have any luck getting the 205U OEM Unlocked? Tagging @physwizz on this.
The phone is a middle of the road, but if basic oem unlock can't be done, swapping out for a moto g6.

Not yet. I'm on the same boat. Like the phone but our model a205u doesn't have an unlocked bootloader option. I had a chat with a Samsung rep who informed me no help on bootloader oem unlocking. We have to find an unofficial way.
Anyome tried chimera tool? I checked the website and has the a205u listed under supported devices but didn't indicate bootloader unlock or root. I saw rmm unlock and Knox disabler. Also sw change. Hope someone can help on rooting or device without a cost. I'll pay up to 5 bucks but nothing more just for root when root has been free on all my devices since 2012.

Yeah, your best bet right now is to use the Android Debug Bridge to uninstall system packages without root.
You can achieve a relatively stock android experience and put on whatever launcher you want, which isnt too terrible at the moment.
We're still working on getting a TWRP going anyhow

That's right. No Way to root , unlock bootloader period. That's y the a205u is so cheap. In the USA no bootloader support. Go Motorola or pixel if you want bootloader unlock support. I sold my a205u for $125.00. Bought the Moto g7 power for $100.00 ..Rooted .. Leave Samsung alone in the USA.

News flash on that model. There is no using ADB as most commands are locked per the Knox system. And if you do manage to delete any packages, that Knox crap makes it damn hard to flash back. Odin isn't exactly a great tool for that model.
Let's set aside the stock android experience - the fact that Sammy INTENTIONALLY LOCKED all their AMERICAN VARIANTS is TERRIBLE. There is no making that better.
That is why a lot of us that got this phone TOOK IT BACK and got one that did have BOOTLOADER UNLOCK.

Hang it up. There will never be a TWRP for this variant or any other carrier variant. This is literally the VZW of Samsung models. There will be zero development for it. Only the international models will see support as a reality.
