Hi all,
My friend's P8 Lite has had a wakelock issue from google play services since around late Jan/early Feb (presumably there was an update) and recently her phone was updated automatically to March2017 security update.
The wakelock can cause the phone to stay in low CPU frequency for 70/80% of uptime (when it should be in deep sleep).
However, despite clearing the data for the play services so that it is re-installed, I am still finding it will causing major wakelocks to the extent where battery life drops to around 12 hours for standby; no or little usage.
There is one last action to try which is a factory reset but I am reluctant to go nuclear until I know this problem won't re-occur after the reset.
Do we have any leads as to what the cause and fix is?
Thanks

Hello in the android battery stats, google services always appears as the biggest battery drainer,
however, kept awake time and cpu usage time seems reasonable (cannot possibly account for 60% battery use)
In Gsam battery or better battery stats, there is not sign that a considerable amount of battery is being used by google service.
Altogether, i am still able to reach almost 5 hours of sreen on time over 24 hours (quite reasonable) i would just like to understand if this is bad reading from the android stats app, or if there is actual drain here.
I am currentrly on stock 4.2.2 with franco's latest kernel.
i flashed a clean image of 4.2.2.
google+ and gtalk signed out, report location from device is disabled. auto backup disabled
any advice? anybody with similar issue.

I'm having the similar thing. No idea how to get rid of it. When trying to disable some of the apps (namely Google Services Framework), Play Store keeps fc'ing.

It is likely an actual drain. I would try uninstalling the updates or updating to the latest version.
Hello folks,
When I bumped into this thread which listed a version of Google Play Services, version 4.4.52; I immediately updated mine which was suffering from extreme wakelocks (I was on 4.3.25).
Here is my phone running the latest version

After installing the new package I went to bed, hoping to wake up in the morning to an improved and reduced battery use. Boy was I wrong!
My phone was awake for the entire 9 hours while I slept!

Look at the awake bar, and notice how it never went into deep sleep! Fortunately, after a couple of reboots my phone was able to enter deep sleep. But, compared to numerous screen shots of other users' battery stats, my phone displays significantly more awake periods.
Keep in mind I have factory reset 3 times now, and the wakelocks continue to occur and plague my existence, resulting in furious vain attempts at finding a fix. The only way to prevent such wakelocks and idle battery drain for me was to disable location services, hence crippling Google Now and other location features.
Does anyone else suffer from poor battery life despite disabling all gimmicky features such as hand motions as well as bloatware?
Have you been able to develop a solution?
I ran into huge battery drain with the past 2 Play Services updates. The latest (4.4.52) I thought fixed the problem, but only for a day. I just rebooted to fix the wake lock I was having. Frustrated.... Nexus 5 here.

Interestingly enough the 4.4.52 update was never pushed to the galaxy s5, I manually installed it.
Even with location turned off I woke up this morning to this:

I'm running stock/rooted kitkat and for the last few days I have had dramatic battery drain. I go from fully changed to 10% in less than 4 hours. Has anyone else noticed this lately?
I had this as well. I had to disable location services to get my phone to actually go to sleep.
Sent from my AOSP on Mako using XDA Free mobile app
disabling location services and trying that. thanks
I've had awful battery since i upgraded to 5.0 and Google services are killing the battery. I'll try location services. Will update.
It's definitely not a problem with Location Services. My location is completely turned off 99% (since always) of the time and I also have that topping my battery consumption. Even though, my phone has been deep sleeping without major problems. There's an unknown wakelock that is slowly draining the battery, but anyway I've been getting 4h of SOT everyday without making any sacrifices. If somebody finds out what's the root cause, keep me posted, please.
I've been occasionally getting this for a few weeks too.
If I turn off location, the problem continues for a day or so but then goes away.
This morning I took the phone off charger first thing. I restarted and didn't open screen for two hours. When I checked battery usage it was down 80% and the big consumer was Media and SDcard. Anyone see this before?
It just occurred to me that I may have a corrupt file on internal storage. I'm going to back everything up and start deleting.
Well..I did a factory reset and I still have a major battery drain. It has to be some rogue app but I haven't installed "new" apps lately. Plenty of updates though.
Hey.
Has anyone else noticed this - very high GPS drain after updating to the AQI7 update? I am on the European Exynos model and usually GPS is sitting at 1-3% usage at most after a normal day. Today it's closer to 10% with almost 300mah drained within 10 hours. That's more than half of my screen time usage.
Going through Better Battery Stats, I saw that *net_scheduler* with Google Services under it was forcing about 2000 wakelocks in the span of 2 hours. Sometimes it appears under another app name, but after the update it seems to have risen up extremely high and is likely causing the drain as the system shows GPS to be 2nd in battery stats.
I tried wiping delvik cache, system cache from settings, re-logging from google accounts, re-installing the google play services updates, and even enrolled in the GPS beta and am now using it. The phone is charging now and I will see if the problem continues in the next few hours.
If it does, I wonder if there is anything else I can do about it other than factory reset? I don't want to go there, but I definitely will if need be.
It's so tiring to see this issue pop-up on all Android devices I have had so far after 5.0 came out. It's like a plague that cannot be avoided with any device...
Did this happen to anyone else after the last update, or is it just me for some interesting reason?
Thanks for reading.
same problem here
OK, after the last full charge the phone is behaving quite well and now indicates 94% deep sleep, which is not bad at all.
What might have done it is switching to Google Play Services BETA. If you cannot find it in play store, use this link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.gms
Scroll down and enroll in the beta. Check the link again after a few minutes and hit the Update button. Charge your phone and see how it does.
I will have to observe how drain goes over the day tomorrow, but for now with 4g and wifi on at my home, I have 2% drain over 3 hours and a bit over. Wakelocks still occur but they are in the 0-1% range of waking up in this period of time, compared to the 6-7-8% of the net_scheduler wakelock from GPS the previous day. If it stays like this I think the problem could be marked as solved.
Update: After last night: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bwg-0GLG0gP9NDJQd2NYSkZ3V0U
About 2% of the drain was lost during me sleeping with WiFi and LTE on. Maybe GPS beta really sealed the deal.
It happened a few weeks ago and has not improved. After the most recent update, I'm getting anywhere from 15 - 50% battery usage from Play Services.; my usual play services battery usage is 1 - 3%. I'm on the latest version, and apparently it's affecting devices from all different manufacturers. It's not heating my phone up and it still says it's deep sleeping, which leads me to believe it's messing with hardware - constantly scanning wifi or bluetooth or something. CPU usage isn't any higher than normal. If I leave my phone unlugged while I sleep, it'll drain 25+% battery over 8hrs while it claims it was in deep sleep the whole time.
I can't roll back or remove play services (I'm rooted and on Oreo), I'm about to try clean flashing my ROM with no gapps, and installing an older version of play services. I don't know what to do, I'm just wondering if anyone here has had the issue or found a way to stop it.
edit: I ended up clean flashing my ROM with the latest opengapps and it seems to have stopped killing my battery.
