Firstly, you cannot install OTA's with TWRP. You'll have to get back to stock recovery in order to install patches.
Thanks to @eng.stk, with the recovery compiled from source, we now can flash OTA Zips from TWRP.
Download TWRP 2.8.7.0: http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=15364
Download the following OTA's and move them to internal/external storage and proceed to install them from TWRP.

It's most likely that you tampered the system and recovery partition. I uploaded the stock recovery here, flash the stock recovery, then flash to system dump, then this patch.
Well, i did a nandroid backup before getting rooted, i tried to restore my phone so i could properly do the ota, but now there is no OS installed
But my computer still detect my phone, where can i download the full rom please ?

By flashing the system dump I meant, install this zip package http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-x/general/ota003all20151024193-oxygenos-ota-dump-t3244996. This zip package is stock system dump bearing version 03. Then flash to 03-04 patch.
is this OTA solved the problem with microsd cards?
Can anybody help with a generic error trying to flash the stock recovery again?
No reason why just says failed. I am rooted with TWRP and trying to revert to stock to be able to OTA. Last android was a nexus 4 and been away a little while so I may be missing something.. I don't want to have to wipe all my data and such can somebody assist and refresh my understanding?
Dizzyrul3z: No, microSD card issue remains according to official forum--next OTA I bet.
I'm rooted, TWRP also errored when I attempted the OTA installed.
So to clarify, using TWRP I want to install three zips: stock rom, OTA03 (system dump), and OTA04 (update), wipe cache/dalvik. Correct?
Question: I install them all at once in TWRP, right? Will any of this erase my apps/data?
Thanks,

You need to flash to Stock recovery as well. I'll be updating the OP.
So this update is newer than the one mentioned here right ? : https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/oxygenos-2-1-2-will-start-roll-out-to-oneplus-x-today.402637/
Thanks

Just received this OTA mins ago.
Size: 17MB
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3AIip-hiOnNb1pBeGNlcUIyYmc/view?usp=sharing
Instructions:
1. Switch to Stock Recovery if you're running TWRP. But how to do it? Restore this backup from TWRP.
2. Flash the system dump available at this thread.
3. Now flash this update/patch.
4. Then fastboot flash TWRP recovery if you only need it.
Just my 2 cents, boot TWRP instead of flashing it. I personally suggest.
Code:
fastboot boot twrp_directory_of_your_pc.img
PSA: You'll need Stock recovery to patch official updates.
PS: My Memory Card is working exceptionally fine. I am using a Samsung EVO+ 32GB.

I can't restore the stock recovery.
in TWRP:
error flashing zip '/sdcard/*/oneplusx_x_stock_recovery.zip'
I also copied the zip into the TWRP backup folder, but can't select it to restore.
TWRP ist v.2.8.7.0
What am I doing wrong?
...rebooting the device from TWRP is also not working, anybody with the same problem?

Thank you for the update OP.
To clarify, when you say '...stick with stock recovery, disable the apps instead of deleting them...' what exactly does that mean?
Is there anyway I can lock the bootloader on my ZE520KL?
I would like to know it, too.
Android 7 cannot be installed with it unlocked, afaik.

How did you do it??
I've bought my ZEN3 (520) and it had Android 6. I managed to root it, but I was forced to unlock bootloader to do it (don't remember if official or unofficial unlock).
Now I removed root, tried reinstalling stock boot partition, etc...etc... but nothing works! It always trips at the dm-verity check at boot time, and it says it will be shut down in 10 seconds, and it really shuts down! (

Why u tried to remove root? for installing nougat? If u want to update to nougat, u dont need remove root, just flash it.
Can you access recovery mode? If yes, just copy the rom on your sd card, before u flash the rom, u must flash boot.img inside rom.zip and stock recovery same as rom ver.

The problems are: I don't know what are the correct boot.img and recovery to flash.
Is there any detailed tutorial? With links to download or something?
How can I tell I'm flashing the correct files?

For boot.img and stock recovery : https://mega.nz/#F!ok0V0RIA!5WKtHe98opzjVI3NPbM7Ww

For stock firmware : https://www.asus.com/Phone/ZenFone-3-ZE520KL/HelpDesk_Download/
If u want flash the latest avaible stock firmware, u must extract firmware.zip u downloaded, and flash boot.img and recovery.img from it. If u cant find recovery.img inside it, just flash latest recovery.img avaible from mega (its for nougat too). Put firmware ur downloaded on sd card.
-reboot your phone to fastboot mode, connect your phone to pc and flash boot.img and recovery.img
-after that go to recovery>install update from sd card and choose the .zip

I have problem, can anyone tell me, can I flash Official ROM Via TWRP? I tried but no success, so, I ask You for help!
download huawei update extractor (latest)
download the update.app file.
when you open the extractor, select the update.app u want to extract.
there are two options, either you extract the files (system, boot, cust e.t.c) or make a flashable zip.
in this case, make a flashable zip.
When you download it it will be in zip file. Don't extract the APP file. just flash the zip file and it will be installed. It's recommended to use the latest TWRP version (3.1.1)
BTW you will lose TWRP and root after flashing it so you can simply flash the stock recovery and update locally

You can flash img files with TWRP for recovery and boot. So you can update TWRP or even flash the stock recovery without PC but you will need PC later to flash TWRP back
But as I told you you will lose TWRP and root after flashing the full firmware file even if you flashed it through TWRP. Without PC that means you may not be able to get them back
If you want to update to the latest firmware without losing them you can flash any EMUI custom ROM there's already B604 custom rom here in xda
It will give you a small error but it ends successfully. you can flash the update.zip (not the APP by itself) in TWRP, only FULL versions though. Tested.

Here
if u are in stock firmware flash original stock boot image via twrp or adb (pc). u can get stock boot image in update.app (based on ur phone model) extract it with huawei update extractor.
but if u are in custom rom, u must extract that boot image from that rom then flash. if successful, u can flash magisk.
