Wondering how LG's hold up on speed - LG G6 Questions and Answers

Hi All, I picked up the LG G6 to test it out as I've never owned an LG smartphone (last LG I had was flip phone) I'm wondering how they hold up in the case of speed after months of use. I have had Nexus (did awesome) and samsung (wont buy again) and currently had the Pixel which I loved just couldnt say no to the way it looks. Just worried that if I get rid of my Pixel and stick with the LG i might regret it on the terms of it slowing down. Any help would be awesome!

I upgraded from an LG G4 and it didn't slow down much over the 2 years I had it.

[Q] confused in buy G2 or N5

sorry for create this thread but ...
plz give best solution between G2 n N5..
thank u devs. and pros..
g2
I recomend G2, better battery, better camera with ois, better visial, better software.
Man the one thing i think N5 is better is Software and original updates! Just this...
G2 have better camera, screen and battery...

Orinal D802 version has all 442 updates, works fine. But i use cloudyflex 2.3 rom. All fine.
Get the g2. I have it as my main phone and the n5 as my travel phone. I keep wishing for longer battery life and better camera on it.
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
i had a black g2 a few days ago, i traded it with nexus 5, used te nexus about 2 or 3 days.
the battery life is a real difference that you wil notice (im a heavy user) .. the camera yes is somehow seems old to me.
performance: i didnt find a major difference. the great RAM management of the nexus is better but i didn't feel the g2 slower or something. of corse vanilla android is a familiar experience and has its pros
in hand: the nexus make you a little bit confident, better grip due to the Mat back. really confartble to use , especially with one hand. the nexus is way confertable in hand.
by the way, ive sold the nexus Yesterday cz i couldnt resist the offer ($)..i had money in hand and wanted to buy a new phone. head to the store, saw the htc M8, Htc M7, samsung S5, htc one max, note 3, xperia z2......many many phones in store......... i looked at the LG part, saw a white G2.. absolutly irresistible !! took it and payd the guy...went home... got internet..updated the g2 to 4.4.2....rooted it... ignored the 18 months warranty card hehehe.... xposed framework..& VrooOoooMmm VrOOooMmmM ...felt the same feelings when cruising in my '79 Pontiac Trans Am Muhuhahaha

G2 is it worth it?

Hey guys, I am looking for a new phone and I stopped with lg g2, xiaomi mi3,nexus 5.
I think the g2 is best and the display is big for the size of the phone. I don't like any lag even the slightest lag in a phone. I am gonna buy the phone second hand with warranty and I usually root and install roms after a few months of stock usage. I am gonna use the phone for about 1,5 - 2 years when I get it and I really don't know which one to buy.
Actually I like them all, but the mi3 is too expensive and can only find new ones that are like 80$ more than second hand g2's with warranty and the nexus 5 is good, but weak battery

I also needed to make the same decision and I finally picked the G2 as it got enough development and the specs are just great for the price.
nexus5 has alot of development but sucks in all the other ways with hardware in my opinion.
Xiaomi mi3, Only a bit of development as Xiaomi isn't the best source releaser and it's kinda huge for its screensize if you compare it to the G2 ain't it?
SO your final pick would probably be the G2 or the N5. But I would personally go for the G2 as the Stock is great and the Camera app is awesome too and the N5 is more like a tester, developer phone so it has really some big ass annoying bugs which you probably don't want. I experienced with my N4 fast draining battery, alot of wifi connection issues. And same goes for almost every nexus device.
So my personal advice is to go with the G2 if you want to live further without much problems and with a long battery life.
And the buttons on the back are damm nice . Plus you got dorimanx kernel with stock roms
I have a n5 and recently bought a g2 mainly for the better camera and battery, however the software imo is a bit lacking and its annoying me to the point where im just going to sell it and keep my n5. Lg's kitkat is simply garbage, its lag city, lg's lollipop isn't available for my phone yet so i have to rely on cm/aosp roms. Since there's so many variations of the g2 not every rom developer supports your phone. I installed around 6 of the most popular roms and found 1 that has all the features i want, gravity box doesn't work on 5.1.1 yet, however i can't get data working on that rom for some reason, seems like the modem isn't compatible with it. So im stuck on kitkat which runs like ****, so i either give up some of the features that i want and run another 5.1.1 rom, or install an older 5.0.2 rom and install gravity box.
Beauty of the n5 is software, every rom works on it, and there's tons of them. There's also a way to stick the g2's battery into it and that's what im going to do once it arrives.
Which g2 model should I look for?
I Am also thinking about meizu m1 note
What's yiur location and network?
If software speed/lag is your deciding factor I'd go with the Nexus 5 everytime. I like LG's 20H firmware but accept that its no where near as fast as 4.4.4 on the Nexus 5. I cant comment on rooted G2 vs rooted N5.
For me, I can live with the speed reduction as the G2 has that killer battery.
I have looked for a replacement for my old HTC Sensation (running Lollipop) for a long time. I just received a brand new G2 from amazon for $236 yesterday. To me nothing could beat the value new or used right now. I have been impressed with the G2 so far and really look forward to it's reported battery life. I'm just (impatiently) waiting for Tmobile to push out Lollipop to my phone and I'll be totally happy!
I considered the Nexus 5, but used models seemed overpriced and I was concerned about battery life. I also looked at the 1st gen Moto X, but the specs were not quite up to the LG G2 and not a large enough leap from my Sensation. Next up was the OPO, good price but it looked huge for me. A 2nd gen Moto G would have been fine, but no LTE, less phone and similar price to the G2. My big issue with the Nexus, Moto and OPO is that they don't support Tmobile Wifi calling.
My wife got a used Samsung S5. It's decent, but very plastic feeling. The S5 specs are not enough an improvement over the G2 for how I use the phone to warrant the $125+ premium for a used phone.
Pending no stupid tax, and the phone works like I think it should, I can't see trading it out for any current phones.
I am from Bulgaria. Well I will buy either nexus 5 or g2. It depends on which one I will find with more warranty and better condition. Thank you all.

Moto G5 Plus vs LG G5

I've been on the lookout for a new phone. I've been generally thinking of getting an previous generation flagship (LG G5 / S7). I'm leaning more towards LG because it's generally cheaper and has better development. A used LG can be found for a similar price to a new moto g5. So I was just curious as to what you all thought how the Moto G5 (plus) compares to the LG G5 in terms of performance and maybe camera. Those are generally the two most important things to me right now. I know the LG has some build issues so I'm also a little hesitant about picking it up.
I'll probably float in the forums for awhile to see how development goes to make a final decision, but I'm also curious about how you all speculate development will be for the g5 plus.
DO NOT GET AN LG G5! I came from one the battery is very poor and performance is not that great.
This phone lasts me 2 days with medium usage. Performs great and has a better camera. I'm actually still paying on a lease for the g5, I hated it so much that I just decided to eat my mistake and buy this phone.
No regrets. Get this phone!

I can only suggest you stay away from LG right now and possibly for the next few years... there is an active lawsuit that is going on because of bad soldering material that after 6-18 months time your phone is nearly guaranteed to bootloop.
The lawsuit includes: G3, G4, G5, V10, V10, Nexus 5 (and possibly more coming) ... but all of these phones after about a years usage are prone to bootlooping.

Is it a good idea to leave the G6 and move to OP5T ??

The performance gain is obvious there, but the more important thing is the faster update ! I was completely disappointed by how slow LG is throwing out update, even samsung came up with the oreo update beta program to soothe her customers' impatience. What's your opinion ? What do you think your next phone will be ?
If you like to waste quickly some money in a new phone, then buy this thing X thing from Apple, throwing more than 1200€ for a phone, yeah!
I have the DS Version and i got every Month an update. But in this Forum i recognized, that for Example the european Version is pretty disadvantaged. Some still stuck in the July Security Patch, LOL.
Before i brought the G6, i had to decide between OP5 or G6. I'm happy with my Decision, having this LG Phone for the next 3-4 Years (hopefully).
Most if not all European G6's are still stuck on July Security patch which is shocking, even my Wife's S6 Edge which is now over 2 years old got the November patch last week.
Would I give up the the G6 for the OP5T......No
Reason being considering this phone came out last week and it still on Android Nougat with no update until after the new year hmmmm, also the camera isn't very good neither and has a strange setup plus no OIS just EIS.
It also has no ip67 or 68 which tbh all sealed flagship's should have now.
It misses out on alot of good stuff the G6 has, granted the OP5T has the 835 & 6GB of ram but day to day usage of this phone you won't tell the difference over the G6 821.
The G6 will get Oreo might even get it before the OP5T so keep hold of your G6 & wait until next years flagship's are out.
Would I leave my wide angle lens for a second lens that (admittedly by most reviewers) doesn't seem to do much in low light? Hell no

Not only that.
OP5T do not have expandable memory, QHD Screen, Quad DAC Audio and last but not least, flagship phone's premium looks
But OP5T's big advantage after spruced up specs is its Vanilla Android experience.
I have the h870 version and this week I had to manually flash the "new" OCTOBER security update. That's just laughable !

Nah. I got a little jealous over the V30, though. But the longer I live with the G6, the more I like it, and it's fast enough for this era of smartphones.
The gains in the OP5T won't be worth it, and there will be some losses, as well- the more I work with this camera, the more pleased I am; especially in manual mode. I don't think the OP5T holds a candle to it.
One of the odd things I'm enjoying is the screen, oddly enough. Had all the NOTE series phones up to now, several of each. I have 3 note 4's I won't use anymore because of screen burn in. That won't happen to the G6. I like the vibrant OLED's, but I'll hang out until that gets better with this perfectly good LCD (first LCD phone I've had, actually).
If money is no object, heck, get a Pixel 2 or Note 8. But the G6 at it's price point (mine was 500) is just peachy fine. A new phone worth buying isn't really out yet, in my mind. YMMV. :highfive:

How about a side move then ? First gen google pixel ? If we're on xda than we value software more than hardware so I'm assuming pixel threads will always be partying harder ?!
For OP5T NO,but for Pixel 2 XL,Note 8 or even better...the V30..hell yeah! But i found that my G6 works better than my friends Galaxy S8.And i'm using for the first time LCD,actually not that bad!Of course,S8 has better screen but i think G6 for the price is absolutely amazing.First time im using phone that doesn't come with stock android..and i really like it!One thing i don't like is when i start the camera after 9pm.It just can't take good picture without manual mode.Auto settings is just absolutely BAD..but it is what it is.Final conclusion is that my Nexus 6P is taking better pictures.I'm 100% sure what i'm talking about.Nexus 6P is one of the best cameras even TODAY!I can show you some pictures taken with 6P and G6..you'll be amazed.I'm not just talking about HDR+,i was using Pro camera app too..and the result is absolutely sharp picture. That's because of the big pixel size camera on Nexus 6p...LG G6 is not a bad device at all,but it's not what it should be actually.I got mine for $300.

Any reasons not to buy?

Im thinking about buying this phone or the galaxy s7 but im on the edge considering the last lg phone i had was the g4 and it only worked for about a week would you guys recommend this phone or should i look elsewhere
Camera is trash.
Gets update hardly ever.
Outdated.
Don't buy if you use your phone to connect Android auto in your car. It doesn't work.
I've had this phone since release. I'd get the s7 as you'll save a few bucks; have no hassle if you choose to want root and they have fortnite beta exclusivity right now.
LG doesn't give a crap about the users.

Have had this for over a year and also bought one for the wife. Previous phones for both of us were Nexus 5s, also made by LG. Have had zero issues with them. I would say go for it.

Things I've had problems with and solutions (If applicable)
Camera is not great (I wouldn't say its terrible, and the wide angle camera is super useful), but picture quality isn't great. - use manual mode when you can
lack of voLTE in custom ROMs + Verizon = stuck with stock, because with Verizon you cant make calls or send texts without voLTE, so yeah.... - Don't use Verizon
Wi-Fi issues (This could be just me, but I am STILL trying to get 5GHz Wi-Fi working!) - IDK, might be just me
LTE speeds are meh, the G6 has "Next generation Gigabit LTE" but on Verizon speeds are S***, never see above 5Mb/s unless I'm standing 100ft from a tower.... - Again, DON'T use Verizon
Screen, Stock Saturation is low (Really would have liked LG to put an OLED or AMOLED panel in the G6 - If you're planning to root, Colour Changer Pro works great... (still wish it was OLED)
I recommend an unlocked V30 or a European Unlocked Galaxy S7/8 (the one with the unlocked bootloader)
This phone isn't the best of options. I had the G4 before this phone, and was pretty disappointed. I decided to give LG another chance, but that chance was in vain.
Camera sucks, battery life sucks (unless you mess around with ADB and stuff), game performance sucks, and software support sucks. I have no idea about custom roms or root because my variant is unrootable. I implore you to not buy this phone.
TL;DR: LOOK ELSEWHERE!
The answer is simple-- at what price? This should match your expectations.
It can be a great bargain as a previous year's flagship phone. Unlike the previous comment my experience has been excellent with the phone
The camera is inconsistent but OK (with a great 2nd wide angle camera), especially with Gcam. Battery and performance is pretty good. Screen and LG interface are excellent.
However the updates are infrequent, which bothers some people and not others, and doesn't really affect the usefulness of the device.
But if its more that $200-250 or so there are already better bargain options around.
I'm sure every phone you will read good and bad opinions, it's all about your expectations.
Do not buy
Apart from wide angle camera and screen everything sucks about this phone and that includes - software update, lack of smoothness, front camera, battery.
For all these problem i now keep a secondary phone. (mi redmi note 5 pro.)
Do not waste money on this. or not more than $200
