Yes. I will be porting MIUI to our phones soon. I have previously ported it to an older LG phone. Only complication i see right now is only the MIUI 8 source is release(Marshmallow) so we may have to wait til nougat source for it is released.

Is it a rather easy port (for someone who knows what they're doing) ? Or will several things be broken and require some work?

Its not that easy. Involves decompiling frameworks and editing them on a base level. That's why miui 8 might not work.

Amd by the time its all fixed, MIUI 9 would be released, and you'll have to start over, correct? So probably better off waiting till 9 drops?

What you use as a base for the rom ?
Try to look for mm base from a device similar to the V20 and cook it with miui files .
Thats how it works last time i was doing it (and that was a waaay back

LMAO you scare me. about 30 min ago i was sitting on the can and the thought of building a CM13 rom from source using the v20 device tree then using that as a base popped into my head. theres just too much difference between MM and N to make a working port like this using N as a base.
Forget about using another device stock base or build cm13 base , we will lose second screen option ( my bad )
I cant see miui 8 work with nougat base many errors will show up and if it work im almost sure will not be as a daily use phone , so we might have no choice only to wait for miui 9 ( if its coming) .
Im starting to hate it that i still dont have root for my phone ??

Is there any chance to get CM or AOSP roms in future?

This is not true at all. You can take the AOSP source, the Moto kernel source, all the binaries you need and then spend some days to get this running.

Not saying it's time well spent or that I want to do it, just saying it's possible. Resources are available here on xda and elsewhere like http://www.xda-developers.com/xda-university-how-to-port-aosp-roms-from-source/ or you can do it exactly as if you were porting cm, https://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/15492-general-cyanogenmod-porting-discussion/ or https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_porting_intro .
As there already is a cm port for Marshmallow, you could try to see what they did and reapply those changes to aosp.
However probably some stuff changed so finding an Android 7 rom for a phone with very similar hardware and replacing the kernel might be a better idea. All in all as I said it's days of work or even weeks. It's just not true that it can't be done.
Already running Nougat on my nexus 6 and I gotta say there's not much that changed.
Like all the other major updates from GB, ICS,JB, KK ,LP & MM , its over rated.
By tomorrow people will be complaining about N ,like always.
I really hate when major updates happen cause it seems like people are running around like chickens without heads asking when will we receive N. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EE21MBRWQxvR9xM-iVSBrGs_Pljd4YgYsw/view?usp=docslist_api

You are forgetting proprietary drivers. Until there aren't drivers compiled for 7.0 you can't build neither a working rom. Be patient and wait for Motorola to release a working rom, at least a soak one. If you can't, buy a Nexus device.
Do you think we will have a lineageos build for huawei nova?
That would be great, but first we need a rom base for any rom....
After my exams in february I would like to try porting Lineage OS to our huawei nova...but thats not a promise, it's an "Let's try and hope.."
Too bad there was not activity on this phone yet.
I really really hoped this gonna replace my Nexus 5 ( the >5 inch / 70cm width trend sucks - phones are just too big!) - but nooope..
I had it already in the hands, good that I didn't bought it. But I maybe would if someone would work on it
Once huawei releases kernel source I will start working on it.

Did they release those for previous phones too?
I figured since this is a snapdragon device the chance for roms will be much higher. Since they don't really release anything for their own chipsets iirc.

I think they released the kernel for many phones in the past..but you can also extract it from the stock firmware..so that shouldn't be a problem to build lineage for this device, but it takes time.. ?

I'm not expecting a custom rom because their is no source code to build from. I'm just wondering why we don't have Dev Previews when it's apparent that they are building code for P on our device.

It's still in preview stage. I'm running it on my pixel and really don't like it.
Nexus will get it's turn when it's stable. We probably still won't see a beta, but when they finish making it an ugly iOS clone they'll roll out like any other update, then we all can go back to flashing the same roms with different names.
I hate being a flasaholic

I know how that feels ten roms a week because you can't find one that meets all the features you want.
As far that I'm aware, neither the 6p nor the 5x will receive Android P officially from Google. Support will end on both devices with Oreo 8.1.x , other than receiving security maintenance updates and whatnot.

Bugs as in it boots but doesn't fully work? Or bugs as in it won't build? I actually just finished a build but I have no way of testing if it even boots (my usb port seems to be shot, it only charges and won't connect via adb or fastboot).
If any brave souls wish to flash it and let me know what's broken (or if it even boots at all), I'll share a link.
I could test it if you mind to share
