my friend updated his phone yesterday.what surprised me that his phone can't be rooted by kingroot after updating.who can tell message why?
Because you should never update before the previous exploit is verified to be working with the new update. I doubt you will see root with the new update for awhile. And there is already a 4.4.4 thread which is where this post should be.
Because he took the OTA!! Rule # 1 of root ... NEVER EVER take OTA updates!! They, more often than not, patch previous exploits that allowed the awesome developers here achieve root in the first place.

And I'm pretty sure kingo hasn't worked in some time ... TowelRoot is (was?) the latest successful root method. However, its already been reported that it's not working with this latest update. It will now be a waiting game to see when/IF it will work again

Hey guys thought I could start this any news on Oreo coming to T-Mobile Note 8?? Post all news here thanks guys
I asked tmobile and samsung mobile I was redirected to support page for os Nougat on tmobile website.. Nothing else new.
Samsung announced that the Note 8 will get Oreo, the time line has not been said.
Oreo Beta

Been running this since yesterday. Only issue I've come across is that I can't allow unknown sources. Other than that it's ok so far. Truly nothing groundbreaking about it compared to the latest official update.

EDIT: Solved by using newer BQJA firmware to flash back to.
Oreo is running great! I didnt even have to use ODIN. (2) Update.zip(s) and a Factory Reset and i am good to go!

Samsung Connect seems to have a bug and Android webview keeps force closing but Oreo Beta seems pretty cool otherwise..

Some Substratum theme options weren't yet working. A few random force closes. Security Log agent messages from some apps. Lag in the notification shade when playing Spotify (so possibly any media). It's not like Oreo is a big upgrade, so I'm not in a rush to get it.

I just got this phone two days ago and have been away from the forums for over 2 years. Root is available for BQJA if I read correctly. Is that right? I just want root for substratum. Downloaded it from the Play Store and it's offering me to buy an add on for "supported Samsung"

You don't need root for Substratum. The $1.99 add-on does work and is probably required.

You can, but only by using the built in "my files" app.. Also go to settings>apps then tap the dots in the top right and tap special access and look at the bottom of the list. Do you see install unknown apps?
I hope they fix the theming issues, half of the icons get the stupid white border/frame. even when you turn off icon frames its stays. its the biggest reason why I switched back. This Beta is really stale this year. I have it on my s8 to and I'm not really impressed
Deleted, nvm. Lol

Yes, that is the build that this is for....
Hi all.
I'm currently working on a project and need to root my Nexus 6P. I've seen a lot of guides online about rooting the device but wanted to come here to make sure the method I take won't brick the device.
About the phone:
Android Version: 7.0
Build Number: NRD90T
Kernel Version: 3.10.73-gde1f200
Baseband version: Angler-03.72
Security Patch Level: 6 September 2016
What method can I take to root this specific version? Sorry if this post is in the wrong section.
Thanks in advance.
Magisk is what I use and most. It's simple to install and keeps your root hidden. You can find the thread and files on XDA or download the app from apkmirror. The app offers you the zip you flash in TWRP. After flashed you head back into the app and verify safety net pass. It may ask to install additional files which you say yes to.
I recommend you updating your device.
Anyways, you'll need to open your bootloader with fastboot, flash TWRP and from there flash the magisk ZIP.
Also make sure you have no code on lock screen before you flash. It can have some problems with TWRP sometimes.
Magisk is what I'm currently using on my 2nd 6p and I like it alot

I replaced my 6p with a 2XL so I don't know.
My last ROM was Pixel experience. Which is very close to stock.
There's also firehound ROM, which is packed with great features

I heard alot of good stuff about pixel and I'm actually bidding on 2 broke ones on eBay. It would be cheaper to fix a broke one lol I tried pixel experience on my Nexus 6p and it boot looped it. Kinda disappointed because it said it was for nexus 6p but it is what it is.
Hi,
I want to go back to 8.0 with April patch as I'm facing some issues with 8.1 and I want to install gcam without rooting. Can I use the MiFlash tool and this ROM:
https://c.mi.com/thread-971059-1-0.html
Please let me know if there is some other way I should do this.
The bug I'm facing with 8.1 is that when I'm on a call and using speakers, I'm not able to hang up after the call, call someone else or receive calls. I have to restart my phone to fix this issue. I tried a factory reset and clean install using MiFlash tool but neither of those helped.
Any help is appreciated.
I'm on stock 8.1 without any of the calling problems you mentioned. But if you want to roll back to April, the link in your post is correct.

That call bug is because of google phone app..... Just roll to beta tester for app in playstore and update it .... Workes fine

I installed GCAM using the method which does not erase data. I'm on the beta channel for the google dialer app and have been for a long time now but the bug still persists and it only happens when I'm using the loudspeaker option for a call.

Thanks for the confirmation
New update has dropped. Version P-MR2-RC001-RZR-190914.3123 and brings the phone up to September 5th for security updates.
I have the update pending but I don't want to download just yet to ensure compatibility with Arter97's kernel. If the WiFi is really better then I might jump on regardless because that's my primary issue at this point. Can anyone confirm either the kernel works or the WiFi is noticably better?

Compatibility hasn't been confirmed yet, but previous discussions with someone who had an AT&T version that was on a July update had issues with arter97's kernel on September's update. The kernel seemed to be incompatible as it failed to boot and also switched the phone back to the old slot afterwards.

It seems to be the case as the images are rather small. I'm not sure what to do now that I'm on Havoc OS GSI. Is there a possible way to patch stuffs other than system (such as vendor)?
I'm yet to make a backup as the current app I use for backup (Migrate) doesn't appear to work properly on this phone (while it worked on my previous one, Xperia XZ Premium), and that Titanium Backup hasn't been updated to be compatible with new features (such as split apks) so some backups can no longer work properly after restoring.
I also need to know if there were any improvements regarding Bluetooth compatibility. Currently I cannot use my bluetooth headset on GSI (only phone calls work), even with a modded overlay (with values changed to undo Razer's crippling of certain features such as aptX).
EDIT: I guess it's not that easy as the payloads are most likely block-based OTAs. These updates do not tolerate any changes on the partitions unlike file-based OTAs that we used to have. We'll have to wait for full factory images to come out and make a list of what we really need to flash from stock updates...
Any issues with the update etc please lmk everyone!
Enjoy it!

Wish I knew!
But I can say to them that people are wanting the factory images if no major issues are present I can't see why it wont be up there but that's me.
I tried updating but it gives me an error everytime.
(Using the Deodoxed version)
Can someone help me with this ?
So trying to game plan here. Logic tells me to flash boot, vendor, and system from factory image of current build. Then let the system update itself. Then flash arter kernel, then go into twrp and flash latest magisk zip to get root.
Is this update still Android 9 or is this taking us to android 10?

This is the standard OTA that needs stock recovery & the update is still Android Pie/9
Also, for anyone that's curious, it doesn't seem to fix any of the speaker phone/call quality issues currently present in Android Pie/9 (but weren't present in Oreo). I can't speak to Wi-fi performance improvements, or other fixes mentioned in the update notice, but I am very thankful that Razer has released this OTA with security patches through September of 2019 ? ?. Thank you Razer!
Wifi
The WiFi is fixed for wifi calling I believe if you put this phone into airplane mode and trying wifi calls it would glitch the wifi out before now seems to work
I think I'll wait to install it until someone else who is more educated in this tests it and makes a guide for it to put stock back on and whatever we need to do to make Arter 97 kernel work with it.
Any fixes to the camera apk?

i reflashed the stock firmware and ran the update to get the latest security update. I also have arter97 r11 kernel installed and magisk and have it rooted with no problems. Google Pay works as well as I was able to get it to pass the CTC scan.
