Anyone able to get Freeform Windows/Desktop mode working? Trying to get something setup an automatic like what Samsung has with the SeX station. Not just screen mirroring when plugged into a usb c multimedia station
And no I don't use or like Andromium.

I have a 4 year old Panasonic TV. It's not a smart TV, which is why I got the Ouya. But I'm wondering if there are ways to make the TV behave more like a computer monitor.
My computer monitor is always powered on, but looks at the DVI signal, and when there is no DVI signal (computer is turned off), the monitor also goes to sleep. As soon as the computer turns on, the DVI signal is valid again, and the computer monitor wakes up. I want a similar behavior for the Ouya.
For those with an Ouya, is there a way to set some kind of sleep timer on the Ouya to get it to turn off the HDMI output, but keep the Ouya on to run background apps (skype for example). Basically, I want the Ouya to be always on, but only turn on the TV when there are events (skype call, tasker event, mouse input)
Apps like Tasker have options to turn on the "display" - but tasker is usually run on a phone or tablet, so the display is built into the device. When apps that reference the "display" are run on the Ouya, does this refer to the HDMI output?
As far as I can tell, there would be no way to do this via a HDTV and the OUYA, but I could be wrong. In the HDMI setting (they may have taken this out due to the fact it does nothing, i haven't looked in the new builds) there was a toggle to always keep display on or not, I've tried it both ways and it never shut off the TV.
I think this is more of something built into the TV and not what's plugged into it.
The OUYA itself now has a sleep feature that's easily accessed by the controller, so if your TV does turn off when there's no display and back on when it detects it, that would work, but that'd be the only way.
Also, the OUYA isn't meant to be an "always on" system like a phone or tablet and I don't think services like Skype will ever be (officially) supported. There is no camera or mic built in or a way to attach them (I've heard some people were going to try USB, but I haven't heard of any results).
With all of that said, I'd be extremely interested if, when you got your OUYA and messed around with it, you found anything that accomplished what you're talking about!
Turn on energy saver/screensaver in the TV options. If you try Tasker and let us know what happens!
Depending on the tv it may have support for CEC which would theoretically allow the Ouya to send power on/off commands through hdmi to the tv. If not, the next option would involve some sort of tap(passthrough) on the hdmi cable that monitors the presence signal and emits IR commands to the tv accordingly.
Thats just my thoughts on it though.
Nexus Player is a sad/simple/boring device. Its remote is really silly and useless. Anyone who have used an Air mouse type remote (Lg Magic Remote or Samsun's one) knows how comfortable it is to have a pointer on the screen and move the hand to reach the cursor where you need. Google decided to use a simply remove which basically is a left/right/left/left/down/down/down until you reach your option.
I've bought a USB OTG cable and connected my mouse. While the cursor is moving on the screen and it works on some apps, in most it does work. So for instance, on a game I can't click on the buttons... Is there a way to make the mouse clicks on all apps ?
Also, some apps which are forced for portrait orientation, will be displayed lying as the tv is 1920x1080. Any way to force the orientation of apks ?
Thanks.
I've had this problem too. Apparently some developers code in touches and/or mouse clicks, and some only code in the touch command. That is why some games aren't working for you.
You've got two options, either complain to the development team to add mouse clicks (which I'm told should be an easy thing to do) or use the DroidMote app by Zulu.
Thank you @midnightzak for making it clear to me. It seems that even the games from the Google Play for android TV are not working as supposed. For instance I installed Minion Rush (which is officially supported) and after it installed on start, it ask me to enter my age but I can't enter it because when moving around with remove for the Age editbox and clicking ok button does nothing, no keyboard popup. Tried it with controller too, same thing.
Another short question. On Chromecast on my LG smart TV I had Simplink enabled. Not sure if because of this, but when I started to cast a video from my phone, the tv switches from cable input to chromecast input. This does not work for Nexus Player, I need to manually switch input to HDMI port of the player. Is this normal ?
I have a magic motion remote for my LG tv, which is basically an air mouse remote. LG firmware has an option to control other devices connected through HDMI with the remote and when I try to add a new device, I get all sorts of Box sets from different producers. I was wondering if there is a way to make the remote work on nexus player.
The nexus player doesn't officially support HDMI CEC which is the protocol required for the auto switching of inputs to work. It's also what would make your remote work unfortunately.
I have a LG "smart" TV as well and at first the Nexus Player did not appear to support the expected HDMI-CEC functionality (input switching and magic remote passthrough). On LG "smart" TVs, you have to re-enable HDMI-CEC for that port when you switch devices. This is also sometimes a very annoying setting to find if you haven't touched it in a while.
@opticron so you say that you LG TV does work with Nexus player and also you can use the magic remote for it ? Can you tell me some more details on how to enable the HDMI-CEC on the tv for the player HDMI port ?
My other concern: should the cable be of any special type to support CEC ?
Later edit: I have replaced the HDMI cable I had with an newer cheap one. The older one did not work with simplink enabled, while the new one does. I can use the lg remote to navigate around the nexus player. The cursor does not trigger any action (too bad) but up/down/left/right/ok/back works from the magic remote.
I've lost my NP remote and can no longer set up my player. Have been on the phone with support for an hour and they cant figure anything out. Their website says you can just tell your phone to "Set up my device" and it will automatically pair and such, but this is not working for me.
Any help is appreciated. I just can't justify spending $30 to buy another remote from ASUS when its only $50 for a NIB nexus player.
Tried the Android TV Remote Control app in the Play Store? I try to keep that set up anyway, as my family is determined to hide every remote in our house...
usb otg adapter, plug in a usb keyboard/mouse.
another you can try is if your tv is hdmi cec capable, you should be able switch the tv input into the cec mode. different tv's call this mode something else, but for example, my samsung tv calls it "anynet+". in this mode, you should be able to control the device with your tv remote.
Hi all,
I got a Mavic Pro Quadcopter yesterday, but I cannot get it to talk to my LG V20.
When I connect to the remote via USB cable the phone automatically switches to "Charging Only" mode. I have tried changing it to MTP (media transfer protocol) in both the pull down menu and Developer Options, but it immediately changes itself back as soon as I open the Mavic Go application.
Can anyone suggest a way to force my phone to stay in MTP mode? I really want to fly my new drone. Arrrgggg!
PS: It works OK on my rooted Samsung S2 9.7 tablet, but it does not fit in the remote mounting hardware. Unfortunately I have the H990DS v20, so root is not an option for me.

your drone probably dosnt support the TYPE C connection, not the phone itself, im unsure how you could make this work tho, type c is a 3.0 connection, micro/mini usb 2.0. Probably a non-compatible connector for the drone sadly.
Just food for thought

PROBLEM SOLVED! A software update from DJI fixed the issue. The phone still shows as connecting as 'Charging Only' but it now connects to the drone correctly. Full video and control functions.
There is still a problem where the software crashes every few minutes, but it seems most users experience this bug. I'm hoping a further software update will finally make this device safe to fly.
I have a Samsung Galaxy A40 which the screen is completely smashed/unresponsive and so I am looking for a way to do screen mirroring to the tv/monitor. Is there a way?
If so what feature do I need on the adaptor/cable to ensure it works for this? If you know of a device, preferably with extra usb slot for a mouse to turn on USB debug mode or simply enable access to backup data.
Am I correct in thinking it needs to have HDMI alt-mode (alternative mode)?
One solution is to replace the screen, but that costs a lot more.
