Which model shall I buy? - Mate 8 General

I'm looking at buying a new phone. I already have the 6p and was interested in a Mate 8 as the price isn't bad at this time on Amazon.
Do I get the L29 or L09. I guess both are international so it shouldn't matter..I'm in Atlanta. I like to tinker as we all do here but my end goal is to update it to Nougat emui 5.

Just buy one they can be converted to each other easy with srk tools.

Perfect. I was looking the srk tools..looks similar to the nexus root toolkit. Also looks like the h/w is essentially the same..only difference is the dual sim thing which I could care less about. I get the model and firmware..is the middle number the region? NXT-l29xxxxB152

Yes, I recommend C432 because usually is updated first, but region is switchable to so don't worry if you can't find that region variant

So new phone just arrived as a L29C185B200 and wanted me to upgrade to 5.0 right out of the box. I opted to run MM for a bit as I've read folks say battery is way better. Thoughts on upgrading?

note 4 in UK which is ok?

So I am thinking of getting a note 4 but in the UK it's the F version but I was thinking the C version looks better...snappier and possible better functionality with lollipop later? Is C the only other safe model in the UK? I see it seems to be the only one with the same features for connectivity.
Also would I need to do anything to the phone to use it in the UK? Anyway would be good to hear from anyone already using a note 4 in England etc.....Thanks.
Oh and also wondering if any other models are ok...

Go with the F model, it works great on Lollipop...no need to desperately search for the C...
Yes hmm I know it's goodi just thought at one point the exynos would become more useful. I did see someone had used both and listed multitasking between apps as better which attracts me. And possibly some kind of 64 bit stuff kicking in one day?

Differences in the Model Numbers?

Hello,
I was looking to get one of these phones but because Amazon UK has ran out of Axon 7s I had to look else where. While I was looking I found Aliexpress, I have brought things off there before while looking for cheap keyboards so this is not my first time.
At first I thought there was just 2 types, the EU/US type which has the same ish hardware while the chinese one is different because it china only.
But after a few hours I have found that all 3 different model numbers have different LTE bands. This was not a problem as my network (UK EE), supported the bands.
BUT THEN... I found that some versions of the phones has on scree buttons while the other ones have capacitive buttons.
Can someone please just clear this up for me.
Which phone and which model number belongs to which region and what are the pros and cons of each of these?
Also, anyone found a way to install the US rom on the EU phone or the EU rom on the China phone? or any other combonation of these? I might want to install a custom rom in the future or get rid of the volume thing on the EU model.
There are 3 variants A2017 - China A2017G -Europe/Global and A2017U for the United States. I'm no expert but from what I've found in my research before buying the device is that essentially on a hardware level all 3 are almost similar. The China version i suppose has capacitive + onscreen . The EU version of the phone is of slight variance from the China version. US version has CDMA support.
The main differences are on a software level with ROMs that are different for each region. The most preferable is the US version with much better support from ZTE considering they are trying to pamper that market. I would suppose based on how things currently look, EU will be behind the pack till we get a bootloader unlock and that will usher in custom ROM dvelopment.
Note that the official ROMs cannot be interchanged among models mainly due to modems being different. Maybe once custom ROM's are made they might be, not the official ZTE ones. If you are in the UK, i'd recommend buying the version meant for UK/EU and don't get yourself into the hassle of a model meant for China unless you looking for the 6GB RAM/128GB version and know your way around rooting/flashing et al. Another factor you would want to consider is warranty. Aliexpress phones can be considered having none. I read somewhere that you get 3 years for the UK/EU one so why not wait for that
Hopefully someone corroborates or corrects whatever i stated above, whichever is necessary . I hope this helps!

UK is meant to drop in Q4(like now...), I'll give it a few more weeks before buying one.
Also, does anyone here who is a dev know if 6gb/4gb and 64/128gb will change rom compatibility?

advice: buy Axon 7 in China to use in UK?

Hi,
I've been tempted by the Axon 7 for some time now having seen it in Beijing, and was excited to see it demoed in the ZTE Demo truck that went to our local shopping centre, presuming that it would be released imminently. Unfortunately, it hasn't appeared and since the mini version *has* appeared (Car Phone Warehouse), I presume it isn't going to be released at all.
So, I have been wondering what my options are. Is it plausible to buy one when I'm next in China and use it easily in the UK? I'm reasonably literate with phones and flashing/etc, so I could perhaps do that too, if it is an option. Does the Axon 7 in China have all the same hardware features as would be expected in the UK? I'm particularly thinking of things like NFC for Android Pay - NFC isn't used much at all in China, so it would be (almost) sensible for them to leave that off phones sold there, but it is something I would want. I would certainly want the Play Store and such like.
I have used a Chinese phone in the UK and successfully installed the Play Store on it (and it had an Intel CPU so it wasn't completely straight forward). It was also a ZTE phone (Geek v975) as it happens.
Any advice on what to do?
Max.
PS. My main reason for the Axon 7 is the front-facing speakers. However, other than not allowing *both* microsd *and* 2nd SIM, it is pretty much spot-on (note that HTC One X9 has a dedicated microsd slot and great front-facing speakers, but I can't find one that isn't locked to CMCC, and it doesn't seem to be so well thought of on this forum, though I see it does have a forum so I'll ask there too).
Axon 7 is a greate deal of hardware.
Of course you can use Chinese version on UK, but you have to flash Global rom and modem.
I myself own a Chinese version, but I flash US rom, because chinese rom is lack of play store and full of crappy app
Hi David
I did exactly what you are thinking about. I'm typing this reply from a 128gb Chinese zte axon 7. I bought from Ali express. When you but from china the seller will root the phone to enable Google play store. That's fine but it screws up obtaining the OTA updates. I can walk you through how to overcome this and get onto 7.1.1. No root nothing like that. My advice it's easy and you can save a packet getting a great phone.
Currently you can pick up an axon 7 for 270. Job done.
I'm running my 128gb Cuba version as well. I have 2 sims and an sd card running on it. There's a few threads on how to go about it. There's not much that needs doing apart from installing Google on the phone. Everything is simple. Just use the search function and you will get everything you want.

LG G6 - H870DS or H870

Hello,
i would like to get myself the G6.
But i'm not sure wether to get the H870 (European model) or the DS model?
You could count the Pros and Cons, but its more a decision of wether to root and use custom ROMs or not?
What about updates/upgrades?
Just share your opinions to help me decide! :fingers-crossed:
PS:
I don't use/need VoLTE.

It depends on what you need...
Spoiler
H870 pros:
- Updates
- Bootloader Unlock: Possible
H870DS pros:
- Quad Dac
- 64GB of internal memory
- Dual Sim
So, if you need root or like modding in general go for an European H870, if not, go for the H870DS, if you have no interests in both pros go for the one which cost less.
My vote is for H870, don't need 32GB since i don't use heavy apps and have tons of storage on my pc and use a 64GB Microsd, also don't need QuadDac or the second sim.

It's better not, the possibility of bricking are very high, also what's the point of doing this? It wouldn't allow the bootloader unlock if that was your thinking, that is an IMEI limited thing
Thank you for your answer
To answer your question I would like to have the EU version because it seems to have more update than version TWN.

In any case I wouldn't advise that, after all the H870 has 32GB only, no dual SIM and no quad dac, so even if you don't brick the phone you would have a software limited phone.
I concur. I think it's a very bad idea, not sure you could even flash it anyways. You'll get your own updates in time, why bother about that?
I got the H870, because of the unlocked bootloader
There is no reason at all to get the European version unless you really need to unlock your bootloader. The DS version is superior. I've had both. Sold the European version and got the DS and could not be happier about it. This also send signals to LG for their region crap.
The main reason to buy a h870 instead of h870ds, if you're living in Europe, is the guarantee or a lack of it on h870ds. Spending £300 or more without any guarantee is gambling.
The sellers are putting in various forms of warranties on the H870DS, most of them offering a year of "seller's warranty". Considering the price of purchase, I'd say it's pretty good. You'll probably run into less problem returning it to a seller on eBay, who wouldn't want to risk getting negative feedback, than talking to LG customer support, which in some cases seem that they couldn't care less about your faulty phone.
The Ebay sellers are located in HKG, e.g. in guarantee case you or he have/has to send it for repair to HKG. 2-4 weeks without smartphone. EBay 12 months, EU 24 months guarantee, etc...

The sellers are shipping from Ireland or the UK, and if I were ever to return it over warranty issues, that's where I'd send it.
Gr8 idea, you send to Irland, UK, France or wherever. Your dealer ships it to HKG for repair = 2-4 weeks without your phone.

Yes, I got it from ebay, because I didn't trust the shady cheap websites. Others have successfully ordered from the shady websites, so you can give it a try if you're brave enough: eglobalcentral. Although I don't see the H870 model at them right now.

Well, if you send your faulty phone to LG, you can rest assure that it'll take some time to get it back as well, since LG doesn't do any repairs themselves. Depending on the issue, the eBay seller might send you a new phone instead of shipping it to Hong Kong. As I've said before, the eBay sellers are far more sensitive to negative feedback than LG, and more commonly known to try to satisfy their buyers.
As much as I'd love to have 64 gigs and dual sim, I spent €40 extra to get the 32 gig single sim, just to be able to unlock the bootloader.
I wouldn't hesitate a second to order with eglobal to get the DS if I felt I didn't need root access.
IMO the price difference compensates for not having warranty so the extra storage and dual sim make it a no brainer.
But yeah, bought the EU version anyway.

ZTE Axon 7s 4/128 for 180-190 USD? What do you think?

Now the price for this axon 7c is 180-190 dollars and for such a price 2k amoled screen, snapdragon 821, audio chip + stereo speakers + good camera + NFC, this offer is even better than LeEco Le pro 3 for profitability, but there are no firmware
Does it make sense to buy and will there be in the future firmware?
Don't bother. Chinese ROM, no updating or mods.
Waste of a good device
Which phone would be a good alternative to the 7s? The Google Pixel 3 has front-facing stereo speakers, too!
It sounds like an OK deal but I would lowball for 150$ if it's on Craigslist or whatever. Just flash A2017U firmware on it, then install a good LOS/AOSP-based ROM. But if you dont live in Asia or have a carrier in that area, then it may not be such a good deal because you will have trouble getting 4G LTE because of the modem/baseband, I believe you will only get 3G. Up to you though.

Good luck flashing firmware from a phone with a different SoC on it...
Assuming you can get it unlocked, of course.
Then you need to develop your ROM yourself because there's no Treble, and flashing U firmware wouldn't really make it have an 820 (i.e. our treble or custom ROM's won't work)
@Choose an username...: It has different SoC? I thought that all A7 variants had same SoC, but with differing amounts of RAM/storage. Thanks for the clarification.
Definitely a bad deal, you'll be locked to Chinese firmware forever. And probably unable to unlock bootloader, install TWRP, etc. But hey, it's your money.

It has an SD821, not much different but different nonetheless. Different camera setup too. Apparently no extra DAC like the SD820 versions have.
A bit of give and take. If the software was available I would have the 7s as I don't use wired output much although still like having the option to use it, but would gladly sacrifice the extra DAC for better camera, more storage and faster SoC.
Seems like it would be an amazing device if someone managed to unlock it.
