My s4 heats up super quick and I was wondering if there is any easy way to fix that or something. If not that's fine but it would be nice to find a solution.
I suggest new battery and test with no extra case wrapped around... also look at removing apps that run all the time like facebook

is it when you use a certain app or all the time? Did it start after you installed new rom, kernal, modem, Xposed etc?
Anyhow, look at your battery stats is there any app using way more battery than normal? Better still install a monitoring app that shows you what is using your cpu, gpu , network etc I use Trepn, that should show you if an app is using excessive resources.
(There's also a low possibility that it could be a hardware issue)

It's a free version. The actual name is "Advanced Task Manager Lite" so do a search on "Advanced".
I did do a search and can't find it. Anyone else managed to find it under Rogers in Canada?
I can easy find it. I use it every day, but i find it a bit strange that you cant close apps in any other way! And alot of programs doesnt have a "Quit/Exit" function.
Does anyone have any explanation to why its not possible to close programs without download extra programs?
you know,
I think i heard Something about when you leave the app , it does actually sort of close.
It saves the state you left it in (freezes) and unfreezes when you enter it again. So really the App is not running or using any comsumption at all until you are in the app.

This is true.
It is because android is awesome at app management. There is no real need for closing apps. It leaves apps kinda open (saves their state in ram) but not running. That`s why most apps open so fast. And even though more ram is "in use" it doesn`t cost you battery life.
Thanks for confirming ,
What a fantatic way , The OS is fantastic and I can guarantee that Android has alot of potential and Can only get better and come up with more technological breaking idea's!!

Oh i didnt know that!! Sounds really fantastic. I have to get used to a whole new way of thinking then, i think im too used to windows
Anyway. I love Android more and more. But i was shocked when i found out that you cant send or receive files via bluetooth. I hope this is their number 1. priority in the next released. I mean, comon .. phones have been able to do this for 10 years now!

i did not find it either. i m using rogers too
but you can download Close Everything at Market for free.
i think those apps are similar. the only difference is you have to close EVERYTHING instead of choosing an app to end it.
anyway, the system is not getting slower even i open lots apps.
maybe, the "freeze" thing is true
yesterday I had my phone fully charged before i got to sleep, in the morning 8 hours later the battery was almost empty. GPS and WIFI was disabeld, so I think all the programs in the "background" ( a lot ) killed the battery.
Or what do you think killed the batt?

if you disable background data usage in data sync that will save batt life and lower data usage too.
do not know if that helps at all

alarms still work (tested just now)
i do not know how that app works ~oops~
maybe it does not work at all hahaha
not all programs stop running. some are designed to run in the background
the only real way to check what is running is to use a task manager
I paid $0.99 for advanced task manager. Its a good, but basic app. And hardly breaks the bank at that price!
The other issue I get is "go slows" sometimes on the phone. It doesn't seem to crash, just response times go into the seconds. I switch off and on to soft reset and its fine.

Why should I disable data usage? If i have an app that use data, then I only need to close the app. Please correct me if I´m wrong.
I have only had the phone a few days and having installed about 10apps the performance of the phone has slowed a lot.i have task killer installed and making sure I'm shutting down most apps when not in use, But everything has slowed since I installed the last fm app
Is there a directory where temp files are stored?
Any help would be great!
Chances are pretty high that you have the same problem as I did, that one of the apps are slowing it down in some manner. You could also replace the TwLauncher (Samsungs ****ty home app) with something like Launcher Pro, which is my recommendation. Just doing that will garner you some performance help.
I already useG launcher pro, but I just restarted my phne and its sped up again.and my ram has increased also.I'm confused
Flash your phone with the modaco Rom and run the lag fix script. This is a temporary problem and a temporary fix. Samsung will fix it soon. They know about it but the phone was rushed out. Needs upgrading that's all. Mine runs very smoothly.

So everyone s been having same problem? So this is looking to be fixed in android 2.2

Doesn't look like an Android problem, but a phone specific so you need to rely on a fix from Samsung.
As mentioned above, nothing to do with Android ~ just bad coding on the part of software Apps installed.
What I have done and recommended to many is to get hold of the App 'SystemPanel'.
There are two versions available on The Market ~ SystemPanel Lite (Free) & SystemPanel App (Paid).
Try the Lite version first. It will firstly allow you to see exactly which application is hogging your system/taking memory/using battery performance/etc./etc.
It has detailed graphs/plots and about everything but the kitchen sink added to aid you in finding what is going on.
On top of that it also has the most detailed selection process of closing down Apps.
I purchased it almost immediately and know many others who have followed suit.
I don't get any further performance issues ~ period.
I have 150 apps, and yes there is slowness, i am also using minfreemanager on aggressive setting and this makes a HUGE difference.
Not sure what google can do about bad coding, is there a way to figure out which apps can cause slowness?

I read somewhere that the lag fix will recreate the problem of Android, which is low space to install apps!!
Is that right?

If you really want to find out what is slowing down your system then yes, use SystemPanel.
I can't remember what the difference is between the Lite & Full version.
All I know is I found it looked that good I get the Full version and have not looked back since.
The Lite version will give you some indication what the program does but please check what you get extra in the Full version.
I have struggled with horrible battery life. I tried everything from roms, radios, setcpu, registry tweaks, all builds on this site and still couldnt pull much more out of my battery.
I ran across an app yesterday while digging through some articles looking for a battery miracle and found an app on the market called tasker. It is an automated tasking app that allows you to set different variations for anything you could imagine on your phone.
I have only scratched the surface with what it can do. The link below has a simple GPS setup to get started.
It enables you to turn on a certain function (WIFI, GPS, Bluetooth) when you open an app and then allows you to close it once the app closes. No more forgetting to use the power control widget!
Hopefully this thread can evolve with suggestions and other setups to help save more battery!
Today I was able to get 13 heavy usage hours out of my phone. Before this I was in the neighborhood of 8-10 depending on usage.
Any suggestions or new scenarios appreciated.
Hope this helps!

Does Tasker support turning on/off 3G? I.E. could I set it to turn off 3G ad drop to EDGE when the screen is off, thus saving battery?
yeah.. it works awesome.. so many settings to config up.. endless combinations lol..
good stuff dude!
3g
Fmstrat
Yes, you can set it to turn off everything when you turn the sreen off.
To do this go into tasker
Add new
Click Event
Click Display
Click Display off
Click Done
Click Plus sign in bottom left corner
Tap Net
Tap Mobile Data with the gear beside it
So the same thing but in reverse for Display on!
Along with this you can set a time profile to check turn on data every X minutes to grab your emails
New Time
00:00 to 23:59
repeat every x mins
add task mobile data on
It dues shut off APN completely however, I dont think there is a way, yet, to just shut off 3g. If anyone know a way please add it.
Hope this Help!
Looking for help with a profile
Need some help from the community.
I am trying to set up a profile that will work as follows:
Screen off > Kill all tasks using ATK
If I choose it as an app it loads the app but doesn't kill anything. This would be a great battery saver.
Anyone?
This looks like an excellent app.
Just a quick question (I've only ever installed free apps from the market )
If I pay for this app and validate/register it online using a Desire based android build, but then subsequently load a different build (maybe a nexus based one) will the app still install and work correctly?
Or will the app be seen as being transferred to another phone and refuse to work?
Thanks for any advice
Guys,
Please don't post warez or links to warez (see XDA rules).
Thanks

Hi all,
So here is my question...
I've been having horrible battery drain and have not yet put my finger on what is causing it.
I'm thinking it could be facebook/linkedin/other apps on my phone.
Is there any reason to install the APK version when a mobile web version exists?
I see the web version being a good choice as it won't be an app installed but rather just visiting a web page.
Any thoughts?
get better battery stats and that should let you see whats causing the drain....or look in settings>battery and see whats running there as well. the apk is there for convieniance and thats about it. the constant updates and radios being on will kill your battery cause the phone is consistently looking for new information. its really all user preference but to me bookmarking the site is just as simple as having the app. you just may not get the update that your friend you dont talk to is eating a taco and taco bell as fast.

It appears greenofy does a lot of what autostarts does. I use autostarts for all apps and disable most everything (for instance facebook with an app is installed/uninstalled etc).
Having said that, after wiping my phone yesterday and doing a fresh install of TriForce 3.1 with Agat 5.1 I've noticied a significant INCREASE in up time.
I only installed a few normal google apps. Linkedin/Facebook I'm using the web version. I got 21 hours out of my S4 with 2 hours of screen on.
When I have my phone configured "normal" i've got close to 90 apps installed.
I'm going to run a "bone stock" from for a few more days to see how the battery life is (i know you have to give the kernal a few days to burn in).
I just wish my phone could last a lot longer before dying.
try ktoonz kernel.......they have alot of preset kernel settings to help you get the most out of your battery and still maintain performance in the ktoonz store. i normally run 1 day+ with around 3 hrs 45mins screen time......and my screen time is usually gaming (psp emulation)and tweaking differant settings or downloading movies music etc.... so its pretty heavy usage...

That's normal and not of much concern. You can search existing threads (or my post history) for a more in depth discussion.

Usualy its the mediascanner continously scanning for new files, you can install a task manager, diasble mediascanner and scan manualy.
In this summer temperature around 30 degree my s5 don't become warm using fb, chrome.... Previous s4 was uncomfortable to hold after 10 min of using fb or chrome. Is that individualy different from phone to phone, or s5 is very cool one?
