Hello, I want to download (if it possible) or get some totorials how to make custom rom that would look like android in google nexus phones, and do not contain samsung touch wiz and all other samsung apps which slowing down my phone. Can someone share some links and own experience?
You chose the wrong phone to buy for yourself then I have very little idea on how to make a rom myself.
Which version do you have? I dont know any rom that supports all variants so that is important information to know.
Resurrection remix and Lineage Os are both popular and quite stable for original S5 (SM-G900x). They perform well and are much smaller than touchwiz roms. Media ability especially camera is reduced.
Links below. They have tutorials for installation too
Good luck! Welcome to XDA!

also if you simply want to make you homescreen look like nexus as per your title, launchers work and are much less invasive on your phone too. Nova Launcher is popular.

Hi
i have rooted my girlfriends new galaxy s plus phone, installed FeaMod 1.2 and the latest Gingerbread Stockrom I9001XXKPU. So fine so good. The phone is running well, very good battery live and thanks to feamod the option to make a complete imagebackup of the phone.
the only disadvantage is the android modification from samsung. If I compare the samsung android usability with my htc desire, samsung sucks.
no nice clock and weather widgets for homescreen available like htc
the contact manager is very basic and looks cheap.
no chance to move google contacts to google groups on the phone. you need a computer to do this.
no widget to place contacts with pictures for smart dialing to the screen
lockscreen vertical unlocking is suboptimal
is there a way to modify the galaxy with a custom rom like htc desire with, for example, a Leedroid Rom? which custom roms are recommendable ?
where can I find a contact app like htc contacts ? I wan't nearly the same look and feel on the samsung galaxy like my HTC Desire. Is it possible ?
Regards,
Frank
Hi,
first of all welcome to the SGS+ community, we are pretty alone here .
Sadly there are only a few developer trying to port something for our phone.
We don't have any AOSP rom (no CM, MIUI and so on).
All our custom ROM are stock rom with modifications.
There is currently a CM 7 port in work but it will take a lot of time to finish it.
I would recommend you to have a look at the I9001 (SGS+) Android development forum, there are some sticky threads about modifications.
hi guys,
my samsung galaxy s2 has been giving me a lot of problems lately (signal issues and cracked screen). I couldn't afford the latest handset, so after reading up lots of reviews about google nexus 4, I bought it from ebay.
The phone is most definitely fast (Android 4.3), but many odd features to give you easy access are missing...I assume this is because it's a stock rom?
I want the theme/menus of the phone to look similar a samsung galaxy s2/s3/s4. Is there a way of doing this without flashing a totally new rom to it?
Thank you for your help
To get a full samsung experience such as in setting/laucher/etc to work you need to have samsung framework..which is a lot of work. You can try and search around the forum but I don't think anyone here bought the phone for samsung experience. The best you can do is apply touchwiz theme but that requires you to flash custom roms. For tw launcher you can try this here. Just search around and you'll definitely find something you can use.
Thank you for your quick reply arffrhn.
I don't want to flash a custom rom...at least not for a while. I think I might have described it wrong mate as I don't want touchwiz.
Let me start again....The samsung s2 that I have is running on a custom rom called neatrom....Have you heard of it? I really like it's style as it's very simple and looks cool with colours and dialpad.
But instead of putting on a custom rom, Is there a theme that I can use so that I can change the dialpad style/colour and menu looks etc?
You can try xposed framework and try out some themes. That's the best way to customize your phone without flashing any roms imo.
Try Paranoid Android or carbon custom rom; it comes with lots of tweaks and custom features.

Try a custom ROM and take your conclusions.
I've had a galaxy s2 and my Nexus 4 is better in so many ways
Hiya,
Sorry to ask one of those 'best rom' questions but since my girlfriend updated her Note 3 to Lollipop (under pressure from me :s) its been very buggy and a crap experience:turns off randomly, freezes etc. She doesnt like too much change, but has agreed a ROM would probably solve a lot of issues as XDA ROM makers seem to be more 'on it' than Samsung.
So, is there one that's pretty close to the stock Samsung Lollipop experience, but stable? Added features a bonus, but not necessary. I have an HTC myself so cant go through a flashaholic testing procedure like I would with mine!
Are there any very stable good kernel combos to add as well? Thanks!
If you look in the Galaxy Note 3 Android Development section of the forum... there are some stock based roms with very minimal changes (or just pure stock with deodexed versions).
Have at look at these 2 (there may be others) and see which catches your fancy (Always make sure to make a backup of your current one):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development/rom-prometeus-3note-3-n9005-n900t-t2831458
and

So there's a myriad of ROMs out there for the SM-G900F. So far I've tried only CM13, and while I love the looks and feels of it I feel it isn't stable enough. I want a ROM that is small/clean, stable and fast with as few apps as possible (just enough for it to run properly). I don't want to flash every single ROM available (as I'm really bad at this and might destroy my phone in the process) just to test them out.
So I am asking on here, do you know of any ROM that is minimalistic, clean, fast and stable that would suit my needs? First and foremost I want my phone to work as a phone, but I want most features to work properly. Preferably recently updated too Fast and stable being priorities.
I am thankful for any advice I can get. Currently running my stock rom, but it's freaking 3.8gb big... O_O
Also; I am sorry if this is against the Forum Rules. I skimmed through them before posting and it does not seem to be a conflicting question and the search function will not answer my question as all threads with similar questions are personalized and outdated.
XtreStoLite although it is a bit old, it's still great. (All GS5 apps flawless and lite )
CM12 AOSP, lite (near stock but high customization )
Blisspop Have not tried it but heard it was great.
Galaxy Project, I am going to be flashing to this soon.
These are just a few off the top of my head, as always there are amazing people and rom makers on this form,
so just look around.
Try new kernels to get different functions (double tap to wake) or just for better battery (handle wakelocks...etc better) or faster (overclock gpu and cpu)
I'm also looking for some info on this because the Samsung Galaxy S 5 forums are a complete mess and very difficult to find info relating to ALL aspects of flashing, including rooting and recoveries! It never used to be like this.
So far I have tried these two roms and I'm now tired of the issues, lack of updates and fixes:
- Galaxy Project
- PhoenixROM
Both of the above are nice but the galaxy project has a known bug where you can't send SMS to legitimate international phone numbers such as +61xxxxxx using the default messaging app. So this was a waste of time for me
Phoenix ROM I've found that facebook integration with the phone has restricted contacts sync to the phone. I think this FB sync issue is due to the custom rom but repeated posts asking for comments / help has got nowhere.
Both of the above ROMs are laggy and slow down. There's no comment on this either. Pheonix ROM also doesn't continue playing music where it left off like the stock rom did. To explain further, I have the phone bluetooth with the car. I play music through the car from the phone. I stop the car / exit eg going to a shop. When I get back in the car, the music starts from the beginning of the 2 hour mp3. Pain in the bum. Phones shouldn't be a pain in the bum.
I don't want a ROM where I have to spend weeks customising it. This is boring.
I was going to check out Shohat ROM but reading the comments there's a bug with bluetooth audio streaming.
I'm too looking for a minimalistic (no bloatware!), clean, fast and stable ROM. Bonus would be extra enhancements to fix current problems. Not an easy task.
Just the fact that there's no response to my previous post shows the forums for the s5 is dead. Time to buy a new phone i think.
Shame really since htc development continued well after the phones were outdated.

Well this is a reply.... The S5 is still a great phone tho, but its your wallet.
And yea, some people make those question threads, but never reply unless they need help, or they screwed something up.
Either way, this is still a supported phone by many developers and staff. Enjoy your life.
As for a recommended ROM try Blisspop, if you want stock TW you could always go back to TGP.

Thanks for your help. The frustration is the lack of updates to ROMs when there's bugs. Lack of information. And difficulty in finding ROMs suitable.
I'll look up Blisspop, thanks.
Don't know what TW or TGP means. I'll google it.

TW == TouchWiz
TGP == The galaxy project.
Of course there are many Roms that I have not mentioned, also if you really want barebones android try cm 12, it's the closest to stock (AOSP) AFAIK. Just browse the forms.

Ah ok thanks. TGP is too buggy and laggy for me, similar to PhoenixROM. I do prefer touchwhiz though.
Currently using OmegaROM. It's fast and smooth. little customisations so thats good. I thought NFC was not working, but it turns out bluetooth being on and connected to my smartwatch was causing NFC not to work.
Facebook contacts sync still not working in this ROM though. Contacts sync works with Stock Samsung roms, but no others apparently. . Facebook has blocked contacts sync, not sure why.
Hi,
I hope one of you kind people could help point me in the right direction for some advice on custom ROMs for (UK version of) the Galaxy S8, how they affect performance etc, and where I might start learning more...?
Current situation
I've had a OP3T since launch and have come to the conclusion that even though it's a great phone (IMO) it's just too big/heavy and I want something smaller.
Ideal solution
Buy a second-hand/cheap S8, wipe it, install a custom ROM that's as close to "stock" Android as possible (I'm really nit a fan of Samsung's software and I'll likely have better support/updates etc from a community supported ROM than Samsung themselves)
Questions/concerns
I'm quite confused by the potential differences between the UK model (Exynos) and the Snapdragon model and how that might affect my plans etc?
What would be a good ROM that would deliver a stock Android experience whilst also being as bug free as possible, still retain things like great camera performance, good battery/performance balance, all "main" functions supported (fingerprint, GPS, BT etc)?
Finally, what are your thoughts on my idea? Is it "wrong"? Should I be looking elsewhere? What am I not aware of etc?
Thanks in advance if you take the time to help - it'll be very much appreciated...

The main differences between the snapdragon (north america/america/china) and exynos(international) is that the snapdragon version has a locked bootloader (China has unlockable bootloader), so no magisk root, no proper custom roms and no custom kernels, in terms of performance the exynos is better in all aspects bar 1, the adreno gpuin snapdragon is a little better.
If you are looking for a clean android/lineageos based Rom il be honest with you, you maybe waiting a long time, currently only lineageos os Rom is in alpha, so a lot of stuff not working, but there are people working on it.
Most time are stock Samsung firmware based but optimised, you will find debloated version and there is a version where pretty much all Samsung apps are removed.
Also if you rely on Samsung pay once you root and install twrp and so on you will permanent trip Knox counter and it will void Samsung pay, you will however be able to use android pay

Thanks for the information...
I guess I could live with a debloated version of the Samsung ROM - I can get a lot of the stock Android "fee" from using a 3rd party launcher etc.
Ideally though I'd like to replace all the default apps with Google variants - clock, contacts etc, and remove the Samsung variants - is that something that's possibly in these debloated versions you mention?
I'm not interested in Samsung pay though - but out of interest, is this totally non-reversible? i.e. if I was to restore to a stock ROM, re-lock the bootloader etc, Samsung pay would still not work?
If you don't want the Samsung experience, skip the s8.
Yes launchers and whatnot, in the end the software is Samsung with no alternative ROM wise.
There are equally good and cheaper phones with better ROM support. The S8 is only an option if you want the best screen and camera or/and really love their approach to software.
I did come from the 3t too and in hindsight would take the 3t over the s8 any day.

That's really interesting...
I'm just fed up with the size and weight of the 3T - and there are no other phones that really appeal (other than the S8) when it comes to size, features etc.
I'm still quite tempted by a second hand S8 (can be had for about £400, immaculate, second hand) - at that price I can't think of many alternatives...?
If you want Android stock experience forget about it. At this point there's just an LineageOS 14 alpha version. Someone said that there's people working on it. Might be. But since first release (October 2017) 6 months later there's no "public" progress. So my expectations are very low leaning towards none. But you can try an optimised touchwiz rom (there's plenty of them) or even those "Google edition" roms. Based on Touchwiz but with Samsung stock apps replaced by Google's counterparts (dialer, messenger and I think camera).
