So I have a LG G3, and doing system less root on it isn't something that is an easy task. Yes I do need systemless root, and I want to run systemless Magisk. I'm pretty much a moron when it comes to this stuff. Rooting my G3 was not an easy task for me, and when I asked about systemless root it was super experimental and not guaranteed to work. Not a task I can take on. So I was looking around at good phone that aren't too expensive and I'm thinking this one would be good for me, I'm just wondering how hard it is / if it is even possible to get Systemless SuperSU and then Magisk running on G4 Prime.

None of the Amazon models can be bootloader unlocked, and unfortunately you thus can't use SuperSU.
May I ask why you need systemless root?
FYI, this is the Moto G4 Standard/Plus forum (code-named athene), and you guys have your own G4 Play (code-named Harpia) forum.

I feel that the retail models don't get as much love as the dev ones. there is a way to root current 5.0.1 retail models, someone just has to find it. Good luck guys and may all the power be to you.

The only reason the Dev Ed got the gravy is because it's possible to root it. The Ret Ed is getting a lot of love too. It's just not working because they did such a good job of blocking everything from rooting it. But the buzz is that they're still trying.
The only way to use xposed is thru root, right? I miss xposed!

Hey, throwing a thought out there.
There is temporary root, in some cases, and for now, that may be good enough, yes.
So, for example, gain temp root, install apps or make mods which can run unrooted, for example, let's say I want to enable call recording. well, that's just a CSC entry yes? do temp root, make the mod, reboot, done... no longer rooted, but the mod remains the same...
This does not solve all problems, like an app that requires it full time, but for mods it's ok.
on the other hand - if you can't beat em, join em. if temp root is achievable, let it be your frend.
Say we build a a different temp root app, that temp roots as the device starts, well, ok, then have it be the first run app, gets temp root, then just use the phone as normal, like it's rooted... t'would be like safe strap, where it's not a complete solution, but doable.
thoughts?
Can someone just tell me the easiest way to root this device? I dont use Android pay yet so not a big concern for me about that. Just seems I cannot find a clear cut answer
I just searched and its Samsung pay your referring to
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No some have said root breaks Android pay. This isn't a Samsung device so why would I even have this on there?
Almost all you need to know here. It doesn't cover system-less root very much, but instead of SU 2.52 use 2.56 WITH the systemless boot image, this is important.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928
I know that this is still in the experimental phase, and mostly for just Nexus devices at the moment, but has anyone attempted to make a modified boot.img for systemless root on the MXP? I would imagine that this type of root will become common place on the MXP once MM drops. The main advantage I'm thinking of here is the ability to use Android Pay while still maintaining active root. I've also read that Xposed + the systemless root doesn't seem to hinder Android Pay functionality.
This is pretty much what is keeping this phone from being perfect for me. But for now, I can hold out by enabling/disabling root when needed for Android Pay
It has been done

I don't believe that is the experimental systemless root. I believe that is the standard mm root.

I could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure this is the beta system less root method.
they are using super su beta 2.52 in this method which is not the systemless root. Systemless is beta 2.56

Last night I was having problems with my linux partition on my desktop. Gonna reinstall tonight and mess about over the weekend.
Just purchased a brand new Mate 9 from Best Buy in the USA. First Huawei device.
Held the Mate 9, Galaxy 8 and Galaxy 8+ in my hands and didn't like the feel of the Galaxy 8 handsets.
Before I even switch it on, I wanted to ask the regulars here what they suggest are the first things to do beforehand as I want to root it and install TWRP and Magisk.
After reading in the Mate 9 forum there are different posts about rooting, patching and other things (e.g. people bricking their device) in regards to tweaking this device, so I wanted to know for sure what the correct procedure is to root, install TWRP and Magisk.
I have watched the two videos shown here for tips so anything else that is helpful would be appreciated.
I would honestly not root for a while so that you can get a proper feel of the device as it was meant to be experienced. Just my 2 cents.

Gotta agree with this. I've had mine for almost two months and it's so good I've never felt the need to root. But I'd say do lots of reading around first and get a feel for the stock is in the mean time.

Thank you for the suggestions. I don't want to set up the phone and then find I have to do a factory-reset when I can get it all done in one go.
I really hate all the ads (using AdAway on current Nexus 6) and like the ability to restrict apps usage e.g. stop location or mobile identification, so use LBE, thus the reason wanting to root and install TWRP. Having image backups has been amazingly helpful over the years.
and now that Magisk is doing an amazing job, I can have all the rooted tweaks and still have Android Pay working.
Root - yes
Adaway and other system tweaks - yes (with extra experience - to get system read/write)
Magisk - no

Are you meaning I can have AdAway or some other ad blocking without needing root or do I need root for any successful blocking of ads...?
One other reason for rooting is Titanium Backup...my go-to app for keeping older copies of apps so I can revert to them when needed.

No.
I told that if you want to customize system (Some functions in TB and Adaway do it), so you must have root and additionally turn dm-verity off.
Just root = simple functional.
P.s. One of Adaway can work without root
I have an ad blocker and I'm not rooted.
Search xda for netpatch firewall. Working for me here.
Only ads it doesn't block for me is YouTube but I can live with that
Bit late to the conversation but I have to say I've rooted every phone I've had except this one, and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. I'm in favour of leaving this phone as it is.

I don't think Magisk works on the Mate 9.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/install-magisk-huawei-mate-9-t3540310
With all these newer options of getting root e.g. systemless root, is it possible to do this on the HM9?
I'm new to Huawei and would like the OTA updates.

Systemless root works fine but you have to flash the stock recovery each time you want to OTA.

Thanks very much for the update.
Am I understanding this correctly, that systemless root is better than the SuperSU and other old-school/typical root options...?
Also, if I go with systemless root, then Android Pay and other banking apps (here's looking at you Barclays!) won't work because they would need Magisk to get them working...? (Weighing up my options here about whether I root or not as I really like the convenience of Android Pay and using banking apps but truly dislike the ads and how apps connect to internet when not needed to. Also, some of the users here have said they're enjoying not being rooted. Sigh...first-world problems).

Yeah, if you root you won't be able to use Android Pay or anything that calls SafetyNet. Actually, it won't work either if you unlock bootloader.
I'll chime in here too
I've rooted and modded every phone I have had in my life, (more than 20 years) and this is the first phone I have had NO DESIRE at all to root..
Like the others here have said, this phone is fantastic stock, and I cant see ever wanting to root it
Another one to add. This is the first android phone i have no desire to root. Love it as it is. Really great.
are we all getting old that's why we don't wanna root anymore for cheats/sixaxis, etc...? this is also my first android phone (mate 9 pro) that i didn't root.
well, yeah, we are all getting old, but I dont think thats why we dont want to root this thing; I think that it already does most of the things as stock that we usually root a phone to get..
Mate 9 pro here too, and its truly an awesum phone...too bad its not "officially" sold in the USA, as it would be super popular..

Hi,
Phone: Moto G4 Plus(32GB)
TWRP + Magisk + Xposed + Elementalx : Is this a gud idea?
Is Magisk Hide effective enough to use Banking apps in rooted phones?
Whats safetynet exactly. What does it mean that its pass?
Its expected that Moto G4 Plus will get Oreo Update.
Will the Update be available if device is rooted with Magisk?
Is there a blog that any body has used to do this on their Moto G4 plus and has successfully worked with everything working without any issues?
can you give me the link to that step by step blog/forum which you used?
There were too many blogs/forums about this and there is a reply in each one them saying that their phone is bricked now. Dont want to take that risk.
Does anybody have a perfect/absolutely amazing blog with step by step guide.
This is my primary phone.
Your help will be much appreciated.

Not good idea,
Correct order,
TWRP > Custom kernel > Magisk . (Done.)
Don't flash Xposed if you want to use banking apps, it will break safetynet.

Personally, i don't use banking apps, but Magisk Hide works fine on other similar apps. So, it will be fine there..

Safetynet is term that is related to safety,
If your device passes safetynet then it's secure, banking apps and others will work fine,
But if safetynet fails, then your device is unsecured, banking and related apps may not work..

Even Lenovo/Motorola don't know when OREO will be there for Moto G4 Plus. No other comments
EDIT: If update available in future, you will have to be on stock unmodified ROM, that meams it will fail if magisk or any mod installed..

Check Guides section for Unlocking and flashing TWRP,
And follow LATEST guide for rooting (older thread/information for rooting can brick your device)
And if you are finding XPOSED + Safetynet Pass + Banking apps, then not possible..
Hello there,
I too am using Moto G4 32GB Dual SIM (XT1643) as a daily driver and I am using a Custom ROM i.e. HAVOC which is an Android 8.1.0 Oreo based ROM. I am using Magisk and TWRP and banking apps like SBI anywhere, Kotak App are working flawlessly. I have not tested Google Tez though.
Even when I had the stock ROM, I rooted it using Magisk and Installed ElementalX Kernel via TWRP. I followed steps from XDA itself, used this link:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/themes/g4-g4-plus-how-to-install-magisk-pass-t3551896
And as per your question on SafetyNet, it is basically a security check for android developers so that they can verify that the phone is not rigged or rooted or modified. In order for every developer to write their own code to go through various checks to check the integrity of the phone, google provided SafetyNet an easy to implement feature for developers. For more on SafetyNet, visit this website.:
https://www.nowsecure.com/blog/2017/08/03/android-apps-google-safetynet-attestation-api/
And as far as Magisk is concerned, I personally prefer Magisk over any other rooting solution, there are more than one reasons for that. Mainly I that I play Pokemon Go, so Magisk does it's job very well hiding my device status from Pokemon Go.
For difference between Magisk and SuperSu, here is the link:
https://www.xda-developers.com/magisk-vs-supersu/
You can install OTA updates with MAGISK easily, just need to install STOCK kernel and Uninstall Magisk.
I've never used XPOSED on my device, so I cannot help you with that.
And you may know this already, but I will tell you just in case you don't, In order to root your phone or install custom recovery, you need to unlock bootloader and then install custom recovery like TWRP.
To unlock your bootloader, visit:
Motorola - Unlock Bootloader
And Finally, I hope you know what you're doing. Follow the steps carefully and always read comments and user reviews before doing anything at all.
Happy Rooting
Maybe Wait till OREO OTA comes
I asked this because these two links kind of suggested that it was possible.
https://www.reddit.com/r/nexus5x/comments/5wdb27/does_elementalx_kernel_break_safety_net/
https://www.xda-developers.com/systemless-xposed-android-oreo-available-pass-safetynet/
I may be wrong.
Maybe i should wait for Oreo OTA to come and then decide.
Magisk Xposed is not working, I tried both the version of Xposed but phone doesn't boot at all. So in short, Root with Magisk + banking apps is possible, but root with Magisk+Xposed (even Magisk xposed)+banking apps is not possible as of now.
I tried Sandhook and Yahfa, both are not working.
