For as long as it provides my needs. If it lasts physically then I think I'll keep it for another 2 or 3 more years .
It does whatever I need and I think it will continue to do so for a year or more, I see no point in upgrading it. I just browse the net, tapatalk, occasional games(which I can run with no problems, the specs are still above average). The camera and battery are the only problems imo. We'll see what the next Nexus will bring
I think i'll use it for a while.
I'm expecting for it to get the android L update and since 2Gb ram is enough for me, ill use it till it stops getting official OS updates and when 2Gb ram isn't going to be enough

I was due an upgrade in August and got a great deal including a HTC ONE M8, only problem, I really can't take to the phone. Spec wise its fantastic and I have tried to grow to like it, but there's so many things it doesn't do that my Nexus does, that i have put it back in the box and will sell it when i am allowed to after 6 months.
I will never make that mistake again, Nexus all the way from now on!

I have 2 phones that I want to get:
The new Nexus. I know the 5.9" Shamu is definitely coming out, but rumors are of a 5.2" one based on the Motorola Droid Turbo for Verizon. Most likely I'll get the Shamu, because I want something BIG to play games, read ebooks, and watch videos on.
I also want to get the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. I ride a bike everywhere, so a huge phone flopping around in my cargo shorts isn't the most convenient. The Z3C gives me a good size screen in a very small package, plus a great camera and insane battery life. And being waterproof, it's a great choice for a cyclist.
Will I retire my Nexus 4 when I get those phones? No. It'll be a test mule for my Shamu and back-up device. I actually have a back-up device, my Samsung Galaxy Light, but honestly, until an AOSP ROM comes out for it, all this laggy, infuriating piece of junk is good for is providing internet at home. Waiting 30 seconds for Facebook or 15 seconds for the dialer or messaging to load makes me want to turn it into a hockey puck.
Will I still use it as a occasional daily driver after I get those phones? Maybe. Probably. Depends on the development that comes out for the Z3C. I'm sure there'll be times I want a mini version of the Shamu, but the Z3C won't have the ROM or features I want, and I'll use the Nexus 4.
The Nexus 4 is a great phone, and despite being 2 years old, there's a lot of life still left in this old girl.
Til later this year or maybe early next year. I'm waiting to see what the N6 is like. I'm just hoping it doesn't have a 5.9" screen like some rumours are saying.
They were fetching £135 on eBay last time i checked so that's saying something!

If this phone receives android L, I'll keep it for a long time.
Apart from camera I dont see any major spec upgrade in this year's phone. So I will wait for atleast next year this time and hopefully something tempting shows up.

Probably for at least 10 - 12 months. Doesn't make sense upgrading since the specs are still pretty good for the phone. It currently meets all my requirements. I think the most important thing to decide on an upgrade is whether the current phone,CPU,memory can keep up with the apps you use without slowing down.
Just curious how everyone is enjoying their Moto X Pure Editions since they've been out for a little over a year now. I've left mine stock the entire time I've had it which is something new for me. As far as the phone itself is concerned I really like it. Love the screen, the size, shape, etc. However, really looking to get something else or rooting as I've had a ton of software issues. Apps not responding the way they should or crashing repeatedly . This is the first phone I've had that's actually acted this way so kind of turned off by it.
Stock here, 11 months of use, 2 updates (5 to 6.0 and the last security update) never a issue.
Just one time, the screen shows a rare horizontal lines, 1 reboot and back to normal.
The heat you ask? Yes, in chrome and YouTube, the heat is an "add on" not specified in the manual...

Screen cracked on first one and had to play endless games with the repair department, including reporting fraud on my credit card. Both speaker grills are working on their second time falling out. Screen and glass coating are better than average on the replacement. I like the LTE bands, high res screen, and the ability to use a big microSD card. The lack of software support is the worst I've seen of an OEM phone. I had to switch to CM13 but there's nobody there who can completely fix the drivers - VoLTE breakup, proximity sensor bugs, speaker fade-out bug, no WiFi calling, poor low light camera performance, etc. I don't see myself trusting Lenovo again for many years to come.

Kept it still in stock. No major issues. Been using the phone with the stock Moto Screen cover plastic still in place (all moto phone have nice plastic screen guard which I never peel. Use it heavily for 3-4 days post unboxing and remove the logo, which has now dried due to screen heat, with a coin). Waiting with finger crossed for Andorid 7.
Camera app and camera as hardware was real disappointment. unlike G4 plus camera app, this phone camera app is very basic in nature. Also the camera is not comparable with other phone's of this budget. Otherwise this was an awesome deal.

Much the same experience for me. Very happy with the phone for the price (I paid UK £300 in December 2015). Still amazed at the sound quality from the speakers. Fast charging too.
I also had the horizontal lines problem about a month ago - thought the phone had died but a reboot solved it. Has only happened once.
Issues ? For me :
would like wireless charging
wish Lenovo were better with updates
maybe a bit too big - but that's my problem , not the phone's - I wanted a big display.
Bought it approx. 2 months ago (15th July, 2016) and really enjoying it all over except the display, my display is bit warmish when compared to other phone and also has a slight bleeding in left corner. I wish it had AMOLED display as the previous series. Camera gives really good pics so happy with it. Would like to know if anyone else has the same display concern as mine.
Stock rooted EU Style at 6.0.1 - so far there are no issues with the phone
Picked it up on the Prime Day sale.
It does the job and is better than my previous phone, a Nexus 4.
Minor gripes. If it gets the update to Nougat I'll be happy with what I paid for it.

Used to like the phone, now I'm extremely indifferent about it. I haven't had any hardware problems, but the lack of software support is extremely disappointing. The camera takes OK pictures, the battery rarely provides more than 2.5 hours SOT, and from what I can tell every custom ROM for this phone blows chunks (I've tried all the popular ones, but the CM base sucks). I've had sporadic issues with cell service, which I believe are software related, and to top it off, my phone somehow nuked itself while I was on vacation in June (I was able to get it back but I lost a bunch of stuff and had to re-setup my phone while on vacation)
I was at Disney world all day, battery died about an hour before I left the park. I got in the car, plugged it into the car charger, and while it was coming up to the battery screen it went haywire and rebooted. Then the charging screen came up and I shrugged it off. About 30 minutes later I tried to turn it back on, and it just bootlooped endlessly. So I had to pull out my laptop, use the slow hotel wifi and download the firmware, then use fastboot to re-flash everything. Luckily I use Google photos to back up pics, so I didn't lose any of the vacation photos.
For the first time in years I'm considering an iPhone. Never had to deal with this kind of crap with my old iPhone 5.
Love my Style, changed 2 screens on it, been stock since I purchased it brand new, not through choice, can't root this phone at all, I've tried every combination possible but the remote server times out requesting the token I'd so I've given up any hope of rooting it.
Apart from that the phone has been flawless, the odd heating up with certain apps which I can put up with.
Not really impressed with the way Moto/Lenovo have treated this supposed flagship in terms of updates and still no solid word from the company if our device will get nougat. It probably will get it but I would have bought a pixel xl by then.

No major issues really (bar the obvious update void). Still love the fact that the phone is smaller than my friend's iphone 6 plus, yet the screen is larger.
First phone I've ever owned that still does not have a single scratch on the screen even though it has been naked since day one, got the phone October 17th. In fact there are very few marks on the phone overall and I've dropped it from knee height onto the road a couple of times.
I often think about wanting a new phone (only because I have G.A.S (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) but then I realise that anything I get won't really do anything that this one doesn't already do.

I bought the Style with extreme enthusiasm since it ran "stock" android and had an SDcard slot. My initial impressions were hopeful... it was a little laggy but other than that, it was okay, and the speakers, OH GOD the speakers. But after a month or two of using it and unlocking the bootloader, it was obvious that there were some serious issues with the phone. Lenovo/Motorola obviously didn't know what they were doing when they made the stock ROM for the device. It was always laggy for me and there were other issues as well. After tons of attempts to find an AOSP or stock rom that fixed these issues... i gave up. I just accepted that TruPureX was the best i was going to get. It made me miss my LG G2 and HTC M8. Anyways after a little under a year i did a lot of thinking and eventually made the decision that i was tired of feeling the need to flash custom firmwares, bootloaders, recoveries, etc. just to get my phone to function in the manner that I feel it should. I ended up buying a (very expensive) iPhone 6S Plus. I understand that people will most likely bash this decision and i respect your views, so respect mine. I still believe android as an OS is superior, but the OEMs just can't properly implement it into their devices in the way that Apple can. I don't regret my decision and now i have amazing battery life and everything "just works". Which isn't something i've been able to say about an android phone. I'm not advising anyone to do what i did, i respect all technology as well as your views, i'm just sharing my experience. Owning this phone annoyed my so much i switched sides (at least for a while).

Sounds like we have similar experiences. I've never owned an Iphone but have had multiple Ipods and Ipads. I think I've grown out of the flashing game myself. I look at all the roms available for the Pure and I'm just not impressed at all. I've come from a long line of Android devices that have all had excellent development and this one has been a bust. I have also been thinking about going with an Iphone but I'm pretty terrified of getting away from the Android environment lol. I'm just to a point in my life where I want my phone to function flawlessly the majority of the time. I wasn't impressed at all with my Galaxy S5 so that's kind of turned me away from Samsung in general. I really liked my HTC devices so I may give them another look in the near future if I don't end up giving Apple the go ahead.

Yes our experiences are indeed very similar. The phone i was most impressed with was my HTC M8. The battery life that it gave with the "small" battery was amazing at that time, but my 6S+ has a similar battery, bigger screen and more powerful processor and it somehow manages to demolish the M8s battery life. I find it extremely impressive. I'm a college student and i just decided i didn't have the time to keep flashing things, etc. The only thing that i hate about iOS is the fact that you have no access to the file system. I may jailbreak and fix some things but for now i'm trying it unmodified. At least on ios you're guaranteed good software support for a good while.

A couple of white spots on my LCD. Not a huge deal.
LCD cracked- without cracking the glass, which is a first for me.
It took a ton of work to get the battery where I needed it.
Development is dildos. ONE (brilliant) stock rom, and its developer left. All the AOSP roms have issues.
I can't believe with only 3 unlocked phones on Verizon, we don't have an abundant choice of roms. Ridiculous.
Had mine since Christmas eve. I replaced the battery thinking it was dying, turns out I just use a lot of battery-consuming apps. Aside from that, hardware has been top-knotch. No issues with software (still running Lolipop), but I rooted the day I got it and disabled updates because I heard the MM update was having tons of issues and causing pops in the speakers and battery drains, etc. and never got around to going MM.
Convinced 2 friends to get Moto X pures as well, and they both love it.
I've had the Pure since November 2015: rooted and spent most of the time on stock. Right now, I'm running Dirty Unicorns 10.6 official, which has the September 2016 update. My overall impression is: 5.5 out of 10 (10 being the best). It's a decent, middle-of-the-road phone.

So-so battery life. My LG G3 lasted about 48 hours after full charge. My MXP lasts about 18 hours.

Mediocre level of enthusiasm about the phone, i.e., it took a long time to get decent cases/screen protectors, ROM development is OK but there are more devs for other phones
Lack of Android updates from Motorola. (I prefer stock due to stability and battery life.)
Heavier than a comparable Samsung Galaxy phone for it's size.
No "wow" feature to the phone: everything is just meh.
why is it nobody mentioned about its ram.. ram management on mm is so poor. i get 600 to 800 sometimes 500 ram free with no other apps installed. pure stock no root.vthats why its so laggy at times... bought it last month for $260 with 32gb on best buy.. i thought it was a deal but cant help notice the lag sometimes. i have a lg g pro 2 3 gb ram with snapdragon 800 on 2014 model... i get 1500 free ram so why is moto x pure on 2015 model only gets 600 to 800 free ram with 3gb phone. will motorola lenovo can still fix this great phone ?
After loving my Moto X and Moto X 2014, I gave the Moto X 2015 a try. On stock It lags a good amount, battery life is below average, sound is loud but quality is bad, also when I receive notifications the sound lags in the middle of it, and the phone ran extremely hot just using social apps or playing light games.
CM13 was the only rom to bring this phone back to life for me. I underclocked the cpu and gpu because of heat and battery power increased dramatically. Notification sounds sound normal and even when underclocked, the phone is still snappy on CM13.
My gf have a Samsung Galaxy s6 with apps I use plus more and her phone didn't nearly get as hot as mines with also better battery life than I was on stock.
Hello, I'm looking into getting a different phone, I'm looking to spend under 400 dollars and I have seen this phone going for 300 or so on some sites. (Not new) is this phone worth it still after being out a year? Also I read about some people getting it cheaper, where is the best place to buy this phone if I do get it? Thank yo .
It is still a great phone, mainly because for at least another year it will get the latest updates. Do also check Lenovo P2 though, the phone my brother has. It has 5000 mAh battery, a better screen then the 6P (though lower resolution) and dual sim slot/slot for SD. The P2 is very nice, so much it made me almost regret getting the 6P 2 months ago. But yeah 6P is a true Tweakers phone, which I like. That and latest updates makes it a winner for me!
Be a bit wary though, strange noise about the battery has come forth from those who own the device for more then a year. I haven't experienced it myself cause it's only a few months old, but I am wary about it and so should you (I am not planning on upgrading again for at least 3 to 4 years, but with the battery problem that might not be possible :/).
I'll check that phone out, another I was looking at is the oneplus 3t. That phone alsobseemed to be solid, how is your battery life now? Screen on time wise? It seems like thd nexus 6p has gotten a lot of good reviews and seems to have a lot of support here on XDA and in the Dev community. I'm coming from a Samsung note Edge which has like none of those, have regretted since buying it.
A used Nexus 6P won't have a warranty and some people are experiencing problems with random rebooting, boot loops and phone dying when there is 15% battery left or more. I would be wary of purchasing a used Nexus 6P. I haven't had any of those problems with mine yet but they do seem to be affecting enough people that I wouldn't purchase one of these without a warranty.
Battery on my Release Day N6 is dying. Only charges on the Turbo Charge and drains way to fast.
I can move on and the Pixel XL looks like my best option, (I'm not in love wit the Pixel) because the Moto Z Force will never have root and that's a great phone.

My buddy does phone repair and has the heat gun, tools etc and I can swap batteries with another N6 I have that the screen is shattered on. But It'd be a week before I can get to his house :/
Truth is, I'm ready for a new phone. What do YOU guys think, is there one I'm missing that I can love as much as the N6, or just fix mine and hope VZW gets the Zenfone AR if it ever gets released?

OnePlus is not an option on Verizon
Nexus 6 batteries are between $12 & $20 on Amazon. That's pretty cheap. I think it's worth the trouble. There's some YouTube videos on changing that battery and it doesn't look too difficult. Plus you have an extra Nexus 6 to practice on if I'm reading the OP correctly.

I still love my shamu 64GB I plan on changing my battery whenever it stops holding a charge. All rechargeable batteries have a finite number of times they can be charged before they start acting the way yours is now. Once your battery is replaced with a quality replacement you'll likely be good for a couple of years and shamu is still an awesome device in my opinion. I'm a little apprehensive about changing my own Nexus 6 battery but when the time comes I'm gonna give it a try. Let us know how it goes.
@HipKat don't go for Nexus 5x or 6p as both suffers from some hardware related bootloop issue. Just go to their respective forums and anyone can have a look at the Q&A section. Not worth the trouble as the phone is bound to randomly die at some point.
If those are your only option and you won't change carrier to get a OnePlus 3T, then I would go for one of the Pixels as they at least has good custom ROM support. If you don't care about custom ROM support then it's up to your preference.

Believe me, custom development is a HUGE factor and I wouldn't go for an old phone.
@bigbaluka I watched a few vids and it seems decent. Like I posted, my buddy has all the tools. We work for Dish Network and he's one of the guys that does screen repair and battery replacement for iPhone and Samsung devices. (Don'tr ask me WHY Dish is doing this....)

I'm not sure I'd replace the 6 for a 6p or a 5X. I got a 5X and it was more for the size, but I can't say it overperforms the 6 plus there are the potential bootloop issues. The Pixel is OK, but you'll be paying up big time and esp if you are not really keen about it, it's a decent chunk of money to drop down. Sounds like you like your 6, I'd just try and replace the battery since it sounds like that's the only issue. It were different if it was a broken screen or something else, but battery I'd just do that.

Yeah, agreed. I did 2 things, found a different USB cable, which looks like it solved the charging problem and switched to Dark Rom which seems to have amazing battery life. I think it'll still drain faster until I get the battery switched, so I must have had a few problems going on; bad cable, deteriorating ROM and battery that doesn't hold a charge like It used to
While my N6 isn't quick as old as yours, I have definitely noticed a lag of late. Taking pictures especially.
And while it might be nowhere near the same class as the N6, I think the Moto G5 Plus might be a good replacement. Sure, the screen size is considerably smaller, it lacks dual front-facing speakers, NFC, etc. but that price! I like the design, and as the kernel source code has already been released, my hope is that the dev community will build some nice roms for this little guy.
We'll see what Motorola does with the true Moto X replacement (not the "Is it a Moto X or is it a Moto E" we are seeing). But that Moto G5 Plus price is hard to ignore.
I just think the Pixel is too expensive. They might solve all of the issues with the release of the Pixel 2, but who wants to spend $1k on a phone?

Lag when starting the camera is a feature of Android from around KitKat or so. The ram that the camera needs is made available for other use, and then the camera has to wait for it to be released.
It makes other apps faster, but the start of the camera significantly shower. You may agree or disagree with that trade-off, but as far as I know, it's the same on all recent phones. Though of course, it matters less if the phone has a lot of ram.
From what I read, the Moto G5 plus has hardware that is approximately as powerful as the N6. So the only way it can have less lag is if its rom is better optimized - and while that may be the case for the stock roms, the N6 has a large community of devs that provide greatly optimized roms.
@runekock - my lag isn't so much when starting the camera as it is when taking a picture. Even with HDR+ turned off, it takes 4-5 seconds for the picture to take. I've had this same experience on stock, and now on PureNexus, which I flashed about five days ago.

There is no lag when using a custom kernel. Try using a kernel different from stock.

Few weeks ago I wasn't able to turn on wifi any more. After factory reset and cache wipe I got it to turn on few times then it died again. I'm suspecting a hw problem. Now that Dark Rom is available for our phone, I might try my luck with that, but I'm not very optimistic.
I really liked this phone a lot. Now I have the option of getting new motherboard for 50€ or new phone (looking at iPhone 6s Plus or 7 Plus cause of that mega battery and brightness, but that price tho.. Was also looking at Pixel but I read it has too many problems + warranty outside my country).
Is Nexus 6 worth fixing (for 50€ + risk of messing something up during repair)?
For 50€ i would take the risk.
Used Nexus 6s still went for over US$100 last time I looked at ebay. If fixing one is $20, that seems a decent investment to me. My battery is about worn out so I will be doing just that soon.
If there are ever charging issues or USB cords falling out, check for lint in the USB port. My first N6 had that issue.
I started having charging issues with my 2 year old shamu a few months ago, getting a new oem charger fixed the problem for me and it's still going strong. I've got a 5x as well, but it doesn't get used much, shamu is a better device.
gonna add my own experience to the mix hoping it would be helpful to some, My N6's battery also started showing signs of a problem few month back after maybe more than a year of usage and it got worse over time. the problem is i cannot get my hand on a new battery anytime soon and i cannot use my N6 as a daily driver as it just dies randomly so i thought i go for the Galaxy S7 since the price was dropped prior to S8 launch and i did, but oh my, going from a heavily developed phone like N6 to S7 is really boring and no fun, might have just got an iphone and it would be just as dull.
so, if you gonna give up your N6 i suggest replace it with another nexus/pixel phone. but if you gonna keep it as a second phone (for whatever reason) then its up to you and your desires and needs, and ofc you cannot forget about the price tag.

Well, I'm open for suggestions. I will use the phone as my daily driver. I'm also into rooting & custom ROMS. As for my observation, angler devs will still hold up the device for years. :fingers-crossed:
BTW, I'm coming from 32gb N6 shamu.
What do you think guys? Is it a good upgrade? Or should I buy a current $200 budget phone instead?

I also had N6 32gb shamu and just bought second hand N6P angler month ago with battery issues, i replaced the batter myself and using abc rom + elemental x with dazed 6p edition 3.1 profile. Its pretty fast and when I'm at home battery is usually at %50-60. I'm not a power user but I must say i switched for the finger print scanner and i miss N6s large screen and it was event faster too in the other hand N6P has great camera compared to N6 specially selfie one is awesome + phone feels more premium with metal back. Overall I'm happy that switched and planing to use this phone at least 1 more year.
I have literally owned 10 Nexus 6P's. Every time I try to upgrade I keep wanting my 6P again. This phone is perfect AND you get the added ability of not really needing to be TOO careful with it. A replacement is $5-600 cheaper than trying to replace a newer phone. I work on cars, so being able to not care about the phone as much when using the flash light is a plus for me. Plus its fast.

The answer isn't actually simple. If you want a phone that will keep getting security updates, then an emphatic no. They are still pushing monthlies right now, but as the Android P dev preview is out and the Nexus line is no longer scheduled for any support, when the Pixel 3 drops in October, I suspect the security updates for the 6p will be dead.
So, once that happens, whatever version of most remaining updated custom ROMs are out there will likely be it. There may be the odd one who tries to kludge Android 9 onto the 6p, but when you also factor in the processor's age, it's very near EOL.
However, if you're OK with effectively staying on Oreo, for the price, it's still a good phone with a good camera. You just won't get a lot of custom ROM dev for much longer. Even in the 8 months since I was regularly using my 6p, development has dried up significantly. There are really only 3 or 4 options other than keeping it stock and doing my own customization.
I recently used an Xperia XZ Premium for about 8 months and had so many hardware failures, that I finally gave up and came back to my 6p. Aside from the noticeable performance difference with the 810 processor and a GB less of RAM, I'm actually happier using the 6p because it's better than the Xperia Xperience ever was, but that's personal preference. All I really do is use the factory image, TWRP, Magisk and then install Viper, SE Linux control and Pixel mods and the phone works the way I want.
I suspect I'll try to suck another 4 months out of the 6p then buy a Pixel 3. It'll be pricy, but stock Android, fast regular updates and a killer camera are all important to me.

Guys im wondering the same thing. I actually just got a Nexus 6P 64gb for less than 200$. I have no battery issues whatsoever but i am worried about the bootloop issues. Do you guys think i should switch phones( I still can) because of that potential issue or is the issue isolated? I mean literally every G4 eventually gets bootloop, is the Nexus 6P the same?

Did any of those 6P's get the bootloop problem? And for how long have you tested a Nexus 6P?
